I love that they cook the food for you at the table, my husband is ok with either or. We started with Mandoo (pan fried beef dumplings) yum! For our meets to be grilled, we chose Bulgogi and Seang Kalbi Gui, it came with several small sides. My husband ordered several Màkku beers in the original flavor. For dessert, we had the most scrumptious cheesecake we've ever had. We were both surprised by how delicious it was and we wish we had ordered one for each of us. I wanted to love this place because I want to support my fellow Koreans but unfortunately there were too many misses. But let's start with the hits. The Soon Doo Boo was very tasty and had a little kick. Not as much as I would like but very close to what I would expect. The Jap Chae flavor was good but it did not have any spinach and not enough of other vegetables; but as I said, pretty tasty. The place is pretty roomy so would probably not need to wait for a table. The rest of the food were mostly misses, the worst being the Kalbi. The flavor was a little too sweet but in a teriyaki sauce kind of way, not the Korean pear/sugar/soy sauce way. The seafood pajeon was too burnt and did not have any seafood, almost all batter. The banchan was ok but the kimchee was a little too ripe. Service was a little show because they were short staffed according to our waiter. So all in all, just not a great experience. I would probably be a little more lenient but prices are similar to Flushing/Bayside even though I would assume their overhead was lower. read more

We came here to celebrate my stepdaughter's birthday. It's one of her favorite restaurants. The place is huge. We could choose a barbecue or regular table and we picked the barbecue table. We ordered some chicken wings with Korean spices. Wow, that was good! Since my stepdaughter likes Galbi or Bulgogi, we ordered that. We also had onions and mushrooms to go with that. Of course, I had the most onions, mushrooms, and vegetables on the side like I always had, lol. This time, I had my dish with some wild beans and rice, and that was pretty good. Glad to have a solid korean BBQ place nearby! I was craving Bibimbap and this hit the spot. The menu is definitely pricey ($48 for BBQ short rib for one, but it does come with a healthy selection of sides.) We tried the wings (pretty good), the bibimbap (delicious and piping hot), and the short rib BBQ (really good). We knew what we were ordering for over 2,000 miles of driving until we got to Long Island. 2 bibimbap's. one with an egg, and the other with tofu. Of course all the sides to pick at. Very mediocre restaurant. This was our first time eating at this restaurant. We ordered Jajangmyeon and tang su yuk. They provided a lot of side dishes for the food which we were pleasantly surprised by. However, the food itself was very mediocre. The jajangmyeon had a sour aftertaste to it and the tangsuyuk also had a weird aftertaste. There was barely any chunks of meat or potatoes in the jajangmyeon, and the food was just alright. The portion sizes were pretty good, but for the prices, they were not amazing. For the quality of food here, its hard to justify the price. We started eating it and the put some octopus on the grill. For the pork belly. We had 3 slices cut in half. 6 pieces all together. Most of it was lard. I mean, it was a thin rim of meat with a thick fat layer. If you are preparing the plates for service, and younhave fatty end pieces from the side of pork belly, just render it for pork fat and don't serve it. If all you get is poor quality pork belly instead of well marbled meat, then change suppliers. I give 3 stars for those reasons and 2 pictures of the lard that I should not eat . read more

We asked our server for their opinions since we've never been, and we got the grill option. My husband got pork belly and I got the short rib. We shared them and they were delish! The server cooks and cuts it up for you, and you get to eat it with chopsticks hot off the grill. They also give you 8-10 small sides which they will refill as many times as you want. Like a cut up grilled chicken wrap in sticky rice paper. Spices and flavor were all on point. -Korean BBQ (Prime rib & Short rib) 4/5: both beef dishes were fantastic. Perfectly marinated and cooked, and absolutely delicious. All of the sides it was served with was great as well. My only gripes with the overall experience were that it was pricey. $45/head for one of the beef dishes was a little steep for what you got but I get that you're paying for the experience too, which leads my to my other "complaint"...I was under the impression you'd be cooking your own food at a Korean bbq place. But our server just brought it over and cooked everything in front of us. It was no different than going to hibachi and we were let down in that regard. This restaurant takes no reservations. A waiting list is made once customers arrive. After 40 minutes, my two dining companions and I, including Yelper Lisa A, ordered several food selections and drinks at our BBQ table. We shared orders at no extra charge. Hands down, the most delicious selection on the menu was the "Jjoo Sam Bokkeum" : stir fried spicy baby octopus, pork belly and vegetables. It came from the "Traditional Selection" part of the menu. The tastiest condiment was the bean sprouts doused in sesame oil. The kimchi was also fabulous. We ordered two Korean BBQ selections: The prime rib (Bulgogi) and the short rib (Joo Mool Luck). The chef prepared them at our table. They tasted like something I can make at home. The mushrooms and onions were undercooked. The whole grain rice was mushy. I had some Mango Makku (rice wine) and Korean beer. Both were satisfactory. We did not order any Ssambaps or Bibimbaps. We also passed on the Japanese Selections. COVID-19 WARNING: The chef gave each of us a pair of chopsticks but no serving utensils. In order to prevent cross-contamination when eating the condiments, it is prudent to place a serving utensils on the table. Otherwise, diners will contaminate the food with saliva from their chopsticks. I had to ask the chef/server to provide serving utensils. I would only return here for the Jjoo Sam Bokkeum. Somewhat of a principle thing for me but I am not a fan of the surcharge for getting an egg. Food was priced fairly high to begin with and this seemed like an excuse to squeeze out another dollar. The venue practiced social distancing with spaced out tables and all the staff wore their protective gear appropriately. They do not take reservations unless for over 7. We were able to walk in at 5pm on a Saturday but the wait for the BBQ line was already 45-min so we opted for the no-wait regular dine-in. The staff was very friendly and answered our questions. The dinner combos on the bottom of the menu are not available yet FYI. We all *loved* every dish that we ordered--we were very skimpy when it came to sharing!! I ordered the kimchi stew with a side of ramen (extra $3) and it was piping hot but flavorful! Additionally, the banchan consisted of kimchi, cucumbers, potatoes, broccoli, fish cakes, and bean sprouts. Our server kindly refilled them once more before the entrees came out. Their side dishes for BBQ is great and I can get more if they run out. The only downside is they don't take reservations, first comes first serve. There is cucumbers in vinegar, potatoes, bean sprouts, broccoli, kimchi and I am unsure what a brown rubbery serving was but, I enjoyed it as well. I had the octopus samgyup sal bokkum. There are not not a ton of Asian restaurants in the Stony Brook/Lake Grove area, but we love Ssambap and have dined in and gotten takeout a multitude of times! Have came with large groups for birthdays (with reservation) and have walked in with smaller groups with a short wait. Also depends on what table you would like - grill or regular table where the food is cooked in the kitchen for you. We've done both and the food is amazing either way! We usually get the seafood pajun to start which comes with sauce on the side. Great appetizer with good seafood! We also get the tukbockee with is slightly spicy and so good! Also recommend the jap chae, super filling! For Korean BBQ meats, we've tried wang kalbi gui, bulgogi, sam-gyub-sal, and dae gi kalbi. All so delicious and wonderfully marinated, plus it comes with white rice. For two people, we usually order 2-3 meats and are super full by the end of dinner. One thing that we've noticed though is that the servers always cook and cut our meats for us even at the grill tables, which we aren't used to since we go to lots of other BBQ places as well. Definitely like that they cut the meat up for us as it makes it much easier to eat, but others may want to cook for themselves!
