My two grandsons were at the riding camp at 12 mile Stables last week. It was a wonderful experience for them. Sherri was an outstanding instructor and was very good with the boys. They spent a lot of time on the horses and learned great control of them. The also loved the opportunity to care for their horse and become friends with it. We are going to guess our guides name was Tanner, he was a lot of fun and a gentleman. He was knowledgeable about the history of the state park. We rose pipsqueek and sprout. The other rider rode Moose. All three horses were healthy and happy. We did the two hour rise and it went by fast. It's adjacent a dog park which made some of the view adorable. Be aware there is a $9 entrance fee to the park. I would go back for another ride. read more

My family visited 12 mile stables at cherry creek state park today and we can't say enough wonderful things about the entire experience. One of my nieces was a little hesitant to go horseback riding but they gave her the sweetest pep talk and she was excited. The staff is warm and friendly and very thoughtful. From booking to the ride, it was so well organized. The ride was beautiful :-). Mia (a volunteer guide) rode at the front and held my niece's horse's rope the whole time so she felt safe). You can tell the horses are well loved :-) They are open year round and the price is very reasonable. read more

I had a terrible experience with this establishment. The following e-mail best describes it: _______ Mr. #####: I arrived at camp yesterday morning with my daughter, *******, as scheduled. I was told upon arrival that she was not on the registration list for this week, but next. I assured your staff that I had received several confirmations both over the phone and in writing via e-mail. They informed me that there was nothing that could be done. My daughter has been asking to attend your camp for years. It has not been feasible for me to enroll her due to the 9:00 to 4:00 schedule that is not friendly to working parents. However, this year another mom and I arranged for our daughters to attend at the same time and to share responsibility for pick up and drop off so that we could minimize missed work time. My daughter was so looking forward to your camp. She has had several trail rides at your establishment and every time we drive past she asks to attend your camp. She remembers the names of each horse she has ridden there. She was absolutely devastated. I had to take the day off work yesterday, as I had no alternative childcare. The other mom in this situation now has no one to share pick up and drop off duties. I understand that mistakes happen and scheduling is difficult. As you can see attached, I have two e-mail confirmations for the week of July 27th. I did not receive a phone call or e-mail changing this confirmation. If you had called me the week before to reschedule, my daughter would have been disappointed, but not devastated. I was very surprised that I did not receive a phone call or e-mail yesterday following up to this. I have not received an explanation for this or an apology (even though my daughter was standing there sobbing as your staff told me there was nothing they could do). I am frankly shocked at the lack of customer service (not to mention the disturbing lack of empathy for working mothers and deeply disappointed children). I asked your staff to hold the reservation for next week (I still have not determined if I can get time off work or if I care to patronize your establishment). Please call me at your earliest convenience and let know what happened. I can be reached at ***.***.****. Thank you. _________ In addition to the information above: While I was trying to straighten this out, the staff kept insisting that this was my fault and I had somehow misunderstood the confirmations or made mistakes in the application process. They said these things in front of other patrons and my kid, who was crying. They did not offer any apologies or remedies. After I sent this e-mail, the manager continued to deny responsibility over the phone (I called him), even though I had attached all documentation including two confirmations sent on June 18th and July 23rd (Thursday prior to the Monday reservation date) with the subject line Camp July 27-31. I actually read the attachments aloud to him and he finally, grudgingly admitted fault and offered a half-hearted apology for the situation and a $50 discount on the next camp. Following this interaction, I placed a call to a nearby horse rescue stables that has a camp. I asked if they had any cancellations for the next week. They said that they might, but wouldn't know until the end of the week. I explained what had happened at 12-Mile Stables and the gentleman on the phone said, "I don't care if we have a cancellation, we will make room for your daughter." I canceled the reservation at 12-Mile and recommend that anyone reading this contact Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption if they need a summer camp. When I cancelled my reservation for the week of August 3rd at 12-Mile, I finally got an actual apology and an offer for two free riding lessons - too little, too late. read more

We looked at several different places before choosing 12 Miles Stables for our family horseback riding adventure and I'm really happy we made the choice we did. The staff at 12 mile was great -- especially Rhonda, our guide. Unlike other places, 12 Mile allows children under 7 to go on the ride (most places force them to stick to pony rides all but eliminating the whole family aspect). They require small kids to ride with the guide and wear a helmet, but my son still had a blast. It was a small group, the horses seemed well cared for, and the trail was nice. All in all, I can highly recommend 12 Mile if you are looking for a nice family riding adventure. I'll absolutely be going back. read more

I signed up my daughter for a summer horse camp, and sent registration forms back in February 2015. They are so disorganized, that I kept receiving calls that they did not receive my registration forms and payment information, etc. It's now a week before camp begins (June 2015), and I receive another call that my registration information has not been sent in. I explained, well how would you have known to contact me 4 months ago, if you had not received my registration information (which contains all my information)??? They need a better business manager to organize registrations, etc. Very disorganized, not very helpful, and now I have one unhappy 7 year old. Will definitely look for another horse camp next year. Maybe they have good customer service when you walk up for a horse ride, but the camps are not worth the hassle and energy. read more

While 12 Mile Stables may be a great place to go for a recreational ride on the rental horses, don't consider boarding your horse there!!!!!! Be aware. I am moving my horse tomorrow and have nothing but inconsistent care for the 9 months I have been there. Matt, the barn manager tries his best to do a great job for the owners and truly cares about your horse but the place is staffed with part-timers and volunteers on his day off that can't follow simple feeding directions. Gary, the owner, will just talk over you if you attempt to have a conversation and tell you how great the place is. My horse has been over dosed and under dosed with vitamin supplements and feeding instructions not followed although they supposedly have a "system" with cards on each run. I have brought this up to management over and over again over the last 9 months, no change. The round pens and arena are frequently under water for DAYS and not usable and my horse has had his stall under water and mud for up to a week solid after rains and snow....If you care about your horse and his or her health just say NO Thanks and go somewhere else and pay more....it isn't worth it. This place is truly meant for people who come out once a month to check on a horse and don't give a hoot about their health....that would allow them to get away with what they do. Those of us who care about our horses don't fit into the mold. Again, I can't stress enough beware, no worming program, marginal big bale hay in the large pens and inconsistent care by rookies and part-timers. Good Luck! read more

I did two trail rides at 12 Mile Stables this past summer. One on Memorial Day with my husband, and one in July with my 10 year old son. Both were great experiences. Both times were last minute, and they were able to accommodate us easily. The first ride, it was just the hubby, myself, and our guide, Marie. She was great, and spent most of the ride trying to convince me to come and volunteer as a trail guide. The second time was with a group that was less experienced, and we had two guides, Marie and Matthew. Matthew was awesome with the kids - my son who was timid around the horse, but very soon found his footing with Matthew's help, and two girls who were hesitant to be too stern with their horses. He kept us entertained with jokes and stories, and was willing to walk part of the way so that he could help the kids and take pictures for us. All of the horses that I have been around there (8 in all) are well mannered and very well taken care of. We will definitely do more rides next year! read more

I was a little disappointed with this stable. They were a little unorganized. The girls started getting our horses saddled and ready for the six of us just a couple of minutes before our scheduled time, which delayed our start time. This may be a great place to do trail rides and lessons however, for a birthday party, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I planned my daughter's birthday party here and had nothing but difficulty all the way through. When I originally called, I was not told that parking for our guests was not included with the package I purchased. Only when I called to confirm everything was I told that my guests would be charged for parking. I then called again the day before the party to ask a question about waivers and was told that they had written the time of my party down incorrectly and that we needed to be there an hour earlier. Well, invitations had already been sent out and I explained this and was told that I needed to be a little bit more flexible because there was another party scheduled during the time of my originally-planned party time. The manager was nice enough, but said that we would have to make sure to leave room for the other party, given that they were double-booked. He also said that they could not ensure that we would be able to ride horses for the duration of my daughter's party, as he did not have enough staff to accommodate us. Mind you, I had booked my daughter's party over a month and half earlier! Upon arriving at the stables, I was charged an extra $40 dollars, as I did not bring cash to pay for the party. When I argued this (because again, no one ever mentioned that it costs more to pay with a credit card!) I was told that there was nothing I could do about this policy. Then, my guests could not get in, as it was later explained to me that once the parking lot fills up, it's a one-car-out, one-car-in policy. Several of my guests waited over 30 minutes just to park! I had 6 kids at this party and was provided one horse, so the kids had to sit and watch as they took turns riding. I did request an additional horse, which was later provided - that I was grateful for. About an hour into our party, they stopped providing rides to the kids, and everyone from the stables disappeared. There was no assistance, no follow-up, no one checking to make sure we were doing alright. For the price I paid (and for what was advertised on their website), I was shocked at the lack of care. i don't know where to begin. I am a horseback rider and show jumper in California. I came to Colorado to spend my spring break over there and I was not riding that much due to the fact that I study engineering so I didnt have enough time to manage my studies and riding. I was craving to ride in Colorado as the weather is much colder there than California. So I called 12 mile stables to reserve a trail ride. I called them many times and no one picked it up most of the time but I was persistent. A man picked it up and I told him that I want to reserve a trail ride for tomorrow and he said alright. So the next day when we were supposed to go for a trail ride, it was snowing so I was a little bit skeptical as I know most barns close when it is raining or snowing. But that man did not call me to inform me that trail ride was cancelled due to the snowy weather so i went to the barn hoping that I would enjoy a trail ride under the snow. My car almost got stuck in the mud. So I called him again and as usual he did not pick it up. I was so angry. I left him a voice mail. Few hours later he called me back and we rescheduled for the next day. The next day, we went to the barn and my brother and I are advanced riders so we asked them if it were possible for us to go trotting and cantering but they refused with rudeness. So we got on our horses who were so dirty. During the whole ride Kristina and the other guy never ever talked to me nor my brother. We felt so unwelcome. My brother asked Kristina if he could ride beside me to take the gopro camera from me and she was like "NO!!" Period. She didn't even say it in a kind way! For the first time in my entire life that we came across people who claim that they love horses and be so rude and impolite! The moment I hopped on that horse, I just wanted to be done with that trail ride as soon as possible because of the horrible attitude that these people showed towards us! I don't know if they did that because they were racist as my brother and I are not Americans. Overall, don't ever consider stopping by their terrible barn. Even the prices for the so-called trail ride are so expensive. AVOID THIS Horrible BARN AND ITS MEAN PEOPLE. I pity their horses to be owned by such a terrible owner! read more
