I went to Ace because I like supporting them when I can. I found some things I needed and was amazed that the flowers they have left looked good. Some rudbeckia that looked amazing and the two employees caring for them encouraged me to take some home. I had to stop again and see those big beautiful Rudbeckia and Rachel was very informative in ways that are light years beyond any employee in the garden department of a big box store and many in actual garden centers that cultivate their own plants. She advised me that living in a studio apartment shouldn't stop me from bringing home more plants. She's not wrong, I just already have a big rose bush that needs to go dormant so I can tuck it into the closet for some space. I stopped in because it's close to home. I keep coming back because they are wonderful here. In our first attempt at buying interior paint, we failed miserably and ended up with 4 gallons of a horrid color--our own fault. Staff here spent a lot of time adjusting our paint to something we could use. They didn't need to do that, but they did. And for that, I'll come here over any other store. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and want to make sure you are pleased with your purchases. Sure, the store is smaller than others. But you can buy online and pick up in store if they don't have it in stock (and you don't need it TODAY). If you have an Ace Rewards card and the Ace app, that process is even easier and can save you money too. read more

This Ace and the one in 9th are always out of the most basic of common plumbing fittings. Fittings like 1.5" abs couplings, 90's, 1.5" rubber couplings, 2" fittings. It's crazy, I simply don't bother trying anymore! They constantly let me down when it comes to plumbing parts. Ace used to be better at having most things and hard to find plumbing items as well. Max did an excellent job helping with my paint order for my living room/bedroom. He is very patient and knowledgeable, and knows what he's doing. Max will also come up with a better solution for a project, and will help you find the right items. I had a huge bundle of cords behind my tv, and he introduced me to these great velcro straps. I live in the neighborhood, and I go so often on the weekends, it's like a second home. Scott has also worked there a long time, and has been very helpful finding what I need for home projects. This store it a total waste of time they almost never have what I need. It seems that whoever is in charge of ordering, either doesn't know when to order or what to order. The common items bins are always empty. And when you ask the staff it always the same answer if it's not on the shelf we don't have. They never know when they will have more. I guess it's time to just stop going to Ace Hardware stores because I end up at HomeDepot in the end anyway. A well-organized store that is usually well-run! They really need to train some of their staff on how to better interact with LGBTQ+ people. My spouse and I were just in to grab a few items and as we approached to check out the cashier greeted us loudly by saying "Hi ladies!!" I calmly responded that we are not ladies and that my husband is a guy. Mind you, this is in front of tons of people as this is a busy Sunday afternoon. This staff decided the appropriate response, instead of apologizing and correcting themselves, was to reply with "Oh, I couldn't tell." What the in the actual f*** is that kind of response? In a heavily LGBTQ+ neighborhood, staff here should know way better. This staff also didn't know the pricing of our items and instead relied on us for that info with absolutely no indication that they have the tools they need to find out pricing on their own. The staff here for the first year of the pandemic was so kind and never assumed gender, I miss those good people. I don't know who these clowns are they're hiring now but they're offensive and it's not gonna be good for business if you keep allowing staff to treat people that way. read more

I am a disabled quadriplegic, and have limited use of my arms and hands, i am in a wheelchair full time I went to my neighborhood ACE hardware hoping to get a better quality reach and grab tool to help me with my daily routine and pick up things I frequently drop on the floor, and they had the perfect solution! Unfortunately I could not afford it on my limited month income! So I left the store disappointed that it cost more than i expected, and told them I would come back next month to purchase it! After I left they came and asked me to come back in, and proceeded to take off the packaging and present me the reach and grab at no cost!! Love this store and their employees BUT has anyone else had an issue with their Wild Lights At The Zoo gift cards not working? We purchased 2 gift cards for zoo tix; when we tried to use the gift cards they wouldn't work. The employees tried everything but the numbers on the cards were supposedly invalid. After working with the employees and Asst Mgr, she directed me to contact the Manager. The call was fruitless (some sarcasm on his end); I wrote a letter with copies of the gift cards and it's been months - no response. Even though I'm one of the biggest contributors to globalization (I buy all my stuff on Amazon), my local Ace Hardware store is a great reminder why it's good to "think locally". The store is well-stocked with just about anything you'd need, prices are fair, and it's staffed with friendly employees that are happy to help. For instance, I came in looking for advice about properly grounding some old two-pronged outlets in the house. Three employees came to my aid, going through all my possible options, from the "expensive-safest up-to-code" methods, to the "do-it-yourself-slightly-ghetto-but-cheap" way. I'd pay a small premium for that kind of service any day, over the incompetence of the big chain sales drones. read more

Very friendly and helpful employees! I really dig the neighborhood store feel here. They have a surprising selection given the size. The aisles are a bit narrow, but the outgoing employees seem quite well versed in the inventory. Even the couple oddball items I have asked for were instantly located by the staff. The couple times they didn't have just what I was looking for, they offered to call around and were able to locate it at a truevalue not too far away. I'm sad they don't have room for lumber, as I would much rather spend my money and time at this independently owned neighborhood Ace than the megas like Home Depot. Let's face it, Ace Hardware is more expensive than Home Depot. But, and this is a huge but, Ace has truly helpful employees and a selection of hard to find parts. After spending a day at the Depot, I ended up needing a few more things. Unwilling to brave the drive down Colorado again, I thought why not try the Ace down the road. I am so glad I did. Rudy helped me find everything I needed and even cut and threaded a steel pipe for me. Yeah it was a few bucks more than I would have spent at other hardware stores but, honestly, it would have taken me more time and I would have had way more frustration finding what I needed. If you aren't buying heaps of lumber or off the shelf stuff, give Ace a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

Repeat after me: I do not have to go to Home Depot/Lowes for home improvement projects, instead I will go to an independently owned hardware store or lumberyard for my next project. This Ace Hardware is the one I'm reviewing b/c it's in my neighborhood, but most of them are really great, and really, the prices aren't that bad, better than big box in some cases, comparable in others, and maybe a few things are a bit more expensive. If I'm in a rush and not sure that they'll have what I need, I call ahead to see what type of stock they have on an item. I love Ace Hardware stores. The people who work there are kind and welcoming to everyone regardless of how much you know about home improvement. However, the people who work at this location are the rudest I've ever encountered. It was our first time at this location so we didn't have our bearings and had a few questions. They were rude and spoke down to us as if we should've known where things were and loudly talked about their personal matters for the entire store to hear. I'll give them another shot later but this was a very negative experience for us that I wouldn't expect for an Ace. read more

These guys are awesome. It's what I imagine a neighborhood hardware store was like before chains took over America. Sure, Ace is a chain, but it's got that neighborhood feel. First off, it's actually in the neighborhood, and not some strip mall. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to brainstorm projects with you. They'll get in what you need if it's not readily in stock, but for a small store they surprisingly have just about everything there. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering the convenience of location. If you're anywhere in the Cap Hill or City Park neighborhoods, this should be your go-to hardware. read more

I went here to get drain opener for my kitchen sink. I told the guy what happened, specified that this was for my kitchen sink with a disposal and that the clog was below the disposal, and told him I wanted the strongest stuff for my situation that would not burn me or ruin stuff. He gave me a choice between their brand and a stronger one. I went with the stronger one because they were about to close, and I didn't want to have their brand fail and not be able to come back that night. I took it home, followed the instructions he gave me, and within seconds, it had eaten through the bottom of the disposal, dripping melted plastic and spewing hot, black liquid everywhere. The stuff was so caustic, that it also melted the carpet. Turns out...you're not supposed to use it on disposals. Now, instead of spending under $10, this is going to cost me around $500. read more

It's old-school: small, with narrow aisles and tall shelves, and the people are helpful and knowledgeable and will get things off tall shelves for you (should you happen to be short like me). The only drawback is limited selection, but like I said -- it's small & old-school. If I just need bolts or nails or a tarp or something simple, I'll always go here. If I need something more specialized, like a fancy Dremel bit, or a doorknob that matches all of my other ones, I'd have to go somewhere else. read more

My Father is a renaissance man. He came from a time when you didn't call to have something fixed, you knew because you had been shown before by someone else. Word of mouth was his 'this old house". I am consistently reminded how lucky I am to have had this education while young, as I can fix anything that can go wrong with my house, short of running a new plumbing line to the sewer, or a few aspects of renovation that have recently been updated to a newer code. I love Ace Hardware, and this location in particular. They regularly keep in stock the items most commonly used in the maintenance or upkeep of the Victorian homes and apartments in the area. I have managed properties where we had open accounts all over the place, yet used this store the most. I hate big box stores, the employees are generally clueless and hard to find. If you can get more than 3 feet in this store without an offer of help, I would be surprised! I can rattle off a list 5 items long, and have a cart full in minutes! Last week with the wind, a friend's window was put out, and so I offered to re-pane it for her. I got my glass cut, glazier's putty, and a couple of other items, and while checking out the counter man noticed the obvious nature of my project for the day, and casually asked if I needed glass points, a key item I had forgotten, and would have had to make a return trip for!! This $3 item was not an up sell, it saved me 40 minutes in travel/frustration time!!!!! (what's that MasterCard saying...Oh yeah..PRICELESS!!) The cool thing? I could feel great if this was the only time. I could stop right here and POW review done! But, I have to tell you I get this EVERY time! I can't tell you the difference between here and stoopiddepot! I get service, helpful tips, AND time saved getting it all the first time there.
