I love guirys and have shopped at multiple locations. Every time, the staff is friendly and you guys have reasonable prices--this was the exception. I'm a professional mural artist & fine artist. When I asked to see the spray paint, Jason in the paint department made snide comments and was unwilling to help. Just tried to order some paint over the phone to be picked up by my painter... spoke to Anthony in the paint department at the Lodo store. He clearly couldn't be bothered to help me... spoke to me as though I were a huge inconvenience and I had to ask to talk to someone else. Eventually ordered the paint from Justin at Lucas Paint in North Denver... he was super helpful and friendly. He is the only reason this review is getting two stars instead of zero. read more

I live a block from here and thought it was almsot exclusively a commercial paint store. The reality is panoply of art supply delights. exotic papers, inks and pens and pencils and canvass and portfolios and on it goes. Oh they have paint too, lots of it!! But I never supposed they'd have funriture and designer accents. Very friendly too! read more

I've passed this place for years and never really thought about. Recently, I wanted to touch up some chipped paint on the walls in my house and didn't want to drive all the way out to the burbs to find a store with a good selection of paint. Guiry's was perfect! We stared at our walls a bit to get a good idea of the color, but it turns out that there are like 100 varieties of sea foam green. After a couple of hits (and misses), a sales associate helped me find the (very nearly) perfect color to match a paint chip I brought in on my second go round. They sell film canister sized samples of all of the paints for $3. Get a small 35 cent foam brush and your walls will look about ten times better! I hate painting, but this store made me want to rethink the color scheme in our house. They also have art supplies (similar to Meininger's) and home decor. Pretty much a one stop shop for any kind of painting project (be it a new color in your home or a work of art). read more

From what I understand, there are two artsy camps in Denver: Meiningers and Guiry's. I'm a Guiry's girl big time. While this place isn't quite as arts/crafts as the Colorado Blvd location, I still love it on principle. I came here looking for some sort of ink/paint/dye to dye some paper that I was using for the Denver Paper Fashion show and I lucked into asking an employee that actually frequently made her own paper, so she was very helpful in helping me find the right ink for my needs. In fact, everyone at this store was extremely helpful. I could have spent another half an hour walking up and down the aisles looking at all of the different types of paints, pens and paper, but I was in a bit of a hurry, so I skipped it. I'm glad I don't live too far away from this location, since I enjoy coming here just to wander for a bit and look for inspiration hidden on shelves of canvas and clay. read more

Just stopped by the LoDo store today. It was my first visit to Guiry's and will most likely be my last. The customer service was horrendous. No one asked me for assistance and i would have greatly appreciated said assistance as I had never stepped foot into a Guiry's before. I purchased a 30x44 paper and at check out I asked the worker behind the counter if he could wrap it up for me (as I usually go to Meininger for this sort of thing and I know that they wrap up purchased paper to keep it in good condition). He told me they don't wrap that size of paper. I found this to be quite silly--if they carry that size they should be able to wrap it. I then asked the man if I could cut the paper down the middle and if it would fit to wrap in Guiry's wrap material then. He became irritated with my questions and shortly told me that they cannot and would not cut my paper. Why? As an art store and paper supplier shouldn't that be a service they have? **For anyone who needs that service Meininger's will gladly cut your paper/boards/etc.** Long story short, if you don't mind dealing with people who clearly hate their job and have poor customer service, see to it that the bald, white, late 30s man helps you at check out. Plus, compared to Meiningers, their selection is unimpressive. read more

In 2011, I found my inner artist. She is a big fan of Guiry's! They have a great selection of paints, brushes, canvases, pencils, and paper. The last time I was there, I bought a table top easel. If this whole painting thing works out, perhaps I'll go back and buy a larger easel and gallons of paint. Then I'll quit my job, and become a professional painter. Ok...highly unlikely, but in the meantime, I'll continue to buy supplies in smaller quantities. They have several locations all over town, but the Market Street location is closest for me. It's much larger inside than I would have imagined. I've yet to check out their furniture and other home items. Good news is, I just bought a groupon for Guiry's so I'll be visiting again soon! read more

Super solid art store + paint shop. Half art focus (easels, acrylic/oil/etc paints, canvases, drawing and craft tool) and half hardware-ish paint shop (house/wall paints and wood stains). Staff is very friendly and helpful, and even delivers to you if you spend something like $50+ or $100+. read more

I go here off and on and love their service and paints. Last week I was working on our bathroom and it was time to select the paint. I went in for samples and left with paint chips and a sample jar. We made our selection and I went back in on Sunday. Jeremiah was there to help, he took my chip, asked what it was for and had a few recommendations. After my choices were made he got right on it and I was out in under 10 minutes total! A nice bonus was that they are having a sale right now and I saved 20%. I'm not sure when it started or ends but I never got that at the blue or orange place. read more

Guiry's has a little bit of everything when it comes to home stuff. Paint, decor, furniture, supplies, and event artist supplies. I have come here a few times for spray paint for painting misc stuff. I was really surprised how competitive their prices are (cheaper and lowes/home depot).. they also get a huge win on location since its right down the street from me. Taking a bicycle shopping is always better having to drive. The staff has always been helpful and nice too. read more

I like the store. Very spacious, clean and organized. The sales ladies are a bit busy but they will help you. They're just not super friendly but they are nice and professional. You know what I mean? Hi folks! So, the worst part of painting is how much time it takes away from yelping! I just got a new house. I was so excited! then I saw the inside and realized the previous tenants were insane. Well, maybe insane is wrong, perhaps blind and insane may be more accurate! It was painted lime green and a plummy-mauve in every room! kitchen? yep bath? yep, more plummy-mauve. EEEK! definetly NOT my colors of choice for a very small house. (it felt as large as a tiny plummy-mauve and lime broom closet and dark!) I went to stupid depot, which I don't like, and had trouble finding help, and a color that I liked, but I made do. It took 4 coats of primer to cover those devil spawned colors! then the paint was hard to work with, and took 2 coats to do the job. I went to Guiry's because it was close to my house. I knew nothing about the place but what a joy! The staff was helpful without being annoying, with many helpful suggestions. The paint colors were better, and they had samples of all the colors so you could see the ACTUAL color, which I have always found to be a problem with "chips". I spent about $10 more than I did at the depot, but the quality more than made up for the difference. I guess I have never used good paint before, because the difference was immediately noticeable. It spread better, more smoothly. It looks richer and has a glow lacking in the other. The primer they sold me covered up that horrible other color in ONE coat! I wish I had bought here to begin with as I put in a lot of labor for bad products that for a little extra money could have saved me in the end. I would have used less primer, less paint, and a LOT LESS TIME! The funny thing is, I'll probably paint one more coat..... over the depot paint with more Guiry's! S read more

Sean in the Design Department at Guiry's LoDo is so fantastic and knowledgeable. I needed to pick out some wallpaper for my nursery and had some very specific designs in mind. He helped me narrow down the infinite number of selections there are with his expertise. He was also very patient, pleasant and full of ideas. Guiry's is wonderful because they have a gigantic wall filled with wallpaper books and seem to have samples of just about any style you would want. Sean was also able to even order wallpaper that I had seen online, and was very helpful with paint colors. Guiry's is a gem in Denver. read more

I love Guiry's for all of my art supplies. They have a great selection and good pricing. Today I got three fabulous wood "canvases" that were labeled at $9.99. When I got to the register they had been mislabeled and were actually $14.99 but they honored the mislabeled price. The staff there know their stuff! read more

I like that the same people are in there working every time I go in and they are pretty friendly. They were good enough to let me know that I had two kinds of paint on my blue paint chip. One for metal and one for other surfaces so I didnt make a mistake on the purchase. Parking can be tricky if there is a game and the cops will yell at you for trying to cross traffic but otherwise it's great! read more

My daughter and I love this store. For one...they have the best prices on Copic markers we could find. For two...we were given phenomenal customer service by every employee we talked to and our cashier, a wonderful woman at the art supply counter who's name I don't remember, gave my 11 y.o daughter, who was purchasing $60+ worth of markers, with her own money she had saved herself, an amazing discount coupon that saved her quite a bit of money, considering. Unfortunately, this store is downtown, which we aren't and I don't particularly enjoy driving downtown, but we will definitely be back and will also recommend it to others. Thank you! read more

Why are these dudes in the paint department so friggin arrogant and grumpy?! Poor customer service. They act like you're bothering them.

Went into this place exhausted and out of it during a hard day at work (I work a block away) because my boyfriend asked me to pick up some tracing paper. First of all, I was completely out of my element and had no idea what I was looking for or where to look for it, just a picture. The employee (I wish I got his name) was so helpful and put a phone conversation on hold when he saw me wandering aimlessly to help me find what I was looking for. Simply by looking at the picture he ran over and grabbed it and rang it up for me. He was really patient when I was using my card (I am so used to doing debit and was zombie-like tired that I was having quite the time when I found myself on the credit option). When I commented on how cute the store was he seemed genuinely excited and thanked me. I will definitely stop in here again for some arts-and-crafts type materials to occupy myself on a lazy day. This place has a locally owned, small town feel that was much more appealing than the chain crafts store florescent lights you usually find. Definitely recommend and the guy I worked with (I believe he was bald) deserves a raise!! read more

Every time I go to Guiry's, I have a shout out to send to them...but sadly, I never get around to it, so here it is: It's time to tell you that for whatever your paint, artistic, design needs are that Guiry's should be your first and last visit...especially when it comes to the paint department. Ever since I've been going in the late 90's, it's been relatively the same crew of "happy to help", talented, knowledgable employees. I have been a faux painter in the Denver Metro area for 15 years and no matter what I need for my projects both great and small, they have it. My last visit was for a client who had their home faux painted in one technique throughout the entire main level of their beautiful home. The challenge here was that it was done 15 years ago, and it is in excellent condition, however because of a recent remodel, two walls needed to be re-treated with the same technique that was a three color wash of glazes that were indistinct to match exactly, and they had to be matched exactly in order to pull this job off. I took a chunk of the drywall that was torn down into Guiry's to see if they could help me with the forensics of determining the base colors to be used to mix with the glaze. This is a challenging assignment. Jason kept the drywall sample overnight and the next day he called me to let me know he had it. He totally nailed it and I was able to do the job for the client this past Monday and the colors were spot-on PERFECT. This is an incredible forensic service and one that is needed in all kinds of scenarios. Not only did Jason do exactly what I needed, but he did it quickly, enthusiastically and even had an example of the faux technique that was my job to create on the walls. I could not have done this project without their help and efficient turnaround time. Thank you, guys! I love having you in my artillery for my faux painting business. First of all, they hire people who are not artists. Second of all, it looks like Blick but it's not even close to the quality of personnel at Blick. And today i walk in at 6:20 and the female clerk says, "Oh great, some one is coming in." That was very welcoming. Then I grab some art panels and ask the male at the register if the wobble is normal as the boards did not sit completely flat and his reply was," Well it's four pieces of wood glued together how straight can it get?" WOW. Okay fine. Next I ask the clerk if they have the cleaning fluid that goes with a specific brush cleaner & the guy says, "Man, I don't know I'm not an artist, are you?" "No, I'm an athlete at an art store buying art supplies for my next football game." Fine I can deal without incompetence and unknowledgeable employees then at 6:50 the female starts yelling across the aisle, "You're still here?" I look around in confusion as to why it'd be necessary to ask me if I'm still here. You didn't greet me. Neither asked if I needed help or if I was looking for something in particular and this was the 2nd time I got terrible service here. So I left $100 on the table but I'm sure they don't care a mistreated customer won't come back. If this is Denver's best art store, shop on-line with someone else. This place could be great but a public port-a-john has as much knowledge about art as this staff. BYE. read more

Went to Guiry's looking for some paint to touch up a room. Staff was very pretentious and rude and the selection was limited - not to mention overpriced for having them mix the color wrong. While waiting for the paint I wandered around the store and can see that they have a very respectable selection of art supplies. Maybe I'll come back for the art supplies but I wouldn't count on it any time soon. read more

I went there for oil paint and canvas. They had a decent selection of canvas sizes but only 2 brands of canvases. I was hoping for lower grade but more affordable canvas options as I am only an amateur painter. Otherwise, I enjoyed my shopping experience. They took a minute to look for my order and told me they don't have it, never did have it nor would they help me to find any. Perhaps If I wanted to wait a week, 10 days...
