This experience at 138 Tattoo was probably the highlight of the year! Located in Gloucester VA 138 Tattoo shop listened to customers request and accommodated over 200 tattoo designs to choose from on their first come, first serve Friday the 13th $20 tattoo event! Yeah you read that correctly... $20 tattoos! I accompanied my bestfriend, my college roommate, and a colleague. We knew the doors opened at 12 noon so we arrived roughly around 11am. Our time stamp getting in the shop was around 1:30pm, which honestly wasn't a bad wait time being that the doors opened at 12 noon. Plus the line of people made time fly! The amount of conversations lead into laughter upon laughter upon us entering in the shop. Once walking into the shop the staff was above and beyond kind and professional! Our paper work was filled out and the designs were selected! We maybe waited another hour to two hours before being tattooed. Keep in mind there are 5 artists to over 100 clients on $20 tattoo day plus once you're in the chair the amount of tattoos you get are completely up to you! So yeah these artists were doing the damn thing tattooing! Once my group got called the games were on! My group of four got a combined total of 9 tattoos spending less than $200 ... most palm size tattoos can start at $200. The four of us had a combined total of 3 different artists; 2 males and one female. All 3 artists were absolutely outstanding; as I'm almost certainly the remaining two artists are of equal service... just speaking on the artists that we saw; again absolutely outstanding! Thank you so much 138 Tattoo! This event was an absolute success! Our tattoos look amazing and my group gives you guys an A+PLUS! We shall definitely return in the year 2020! Keith did my tattoos and his designs, shading and lettering is fantastic. James, the owner, did both my parents (along with Keith doing a lot of my dad's also) and he is amazing with that needle of his. I would give this place no stars if I could. They blamed me for their mistakes on my piercings and my jewelry broke after a few days. They pierced at a wrong angle and one earring broke off after a few days. Didn't even touch the jewelry so there's no way it could've been my fault. Horrible customer service and rude piercer. Never go here for piercings. Also, team members were arguing infront of customers. Very disappointed and didn't even get a full refund. Every artist has things they are good at, things they are not so good at, etc. There are several good artists at 138 for tattoos. Be sure to communicate what you are looking for. Having reference pictures, etc is definitely a good idea. (Basically the more you can give them to go off of, the better they can be sure to be on the same page as you.) They have very reasonable prices for tattoos and piercings alike, as well as a decent selection of jewelry (especially for the area.) Well worth checking out. read more

Went with my now ex-girlfriend to get a tattoo they had previously done, fixed. Was even thinking about getting some work done myself. Not impressed with there work at all even though she continues to go there cause she knows the owner. Her recent work done on the back of her neck is Horrible!!! Some of the lines looked like sharpie marker on a paper towel. They do have somewhat of a following with their loyal customers, but I will pass. read more

Julie did my naval piercing 3 months ago. Was told I could change the ring after 1 month. Was told healing time is 1-3 months also listed on after care instructions. Got a new naval ring today made of gold. Stopped in a body art shop close to my house. First I was told I should not change the original ring out for 6 months...it takes 6 months to a year to heal. Showed the lady at the shop my piercing and she ask if the ring I was wear is what the piercer used when it was done...it was! She said she was cleaning my new gold ring and changing it out right then and there! Here is the WARNING the ring that was used when I got the piercing done is the one that I was told should be used. Come to find out it was low grade stainless steel and the balls were made of acrylic.....ACRYLIC is TOXIC and can cause infection and get in your bloodstream !!! I looked this up...even if you piercing is healed and you do use a ring with acrylic balls it should only be worn for a short time. This place may be licensed but they do not know what safety is or don't care!!!! Protect yourself and go somewhere else!! Make sure you have high quality jewelry for your initial piercing!!!!!!!!!!! read more

PLEASE, DO NOT COME HERE FOR PIERCINGS. All of my piercings that I received here were done incorrectly and the jewelry broke for every single one within a week. The jewelry you PAY FOR is cheap and breaks within a week. When I contacted this place to let them know that my earrings broke, they told me it was my fault and I cleaned them wrong??? How would cleaning break metal???? I even used the solution they recommended, absolutely ridiculous. I posted reviews on multiple websites of my horrible experience and they gave me a refund to take them down lmao. Please, I am begging you, go somewhere else for piercings, this place Is extremely unprofessional and rude. The people here clearly do not know how to do their jobs and I felt unwanted in this environment due to customers not being attended to and colleagues yelling at each other INFRONT OF THEIR CLIENTS. I even had to tell my piercer multiple times what I wanted and she still did it wrong. This place is a sad excuse for a family business and a piercing/tattoo parlor. read more

My husband went in for a tattoo on his arm, as 138 came highly recommended. They were were very nice. Everything looked clean. He had the tattoo done, price was amazing. After the tattoo healed it looked excellent. The lines were very clean and straight. The color took and there were no missing spots. We will def go back. read more
