The women who work here are all very friendly and more than willing to step in and help you make a decision if you're staring in the mirror trying to decide which earrings suit you better. That said, being saleswomen, their opinion will usually be to support you in whichever one you like more, even if neither feels quite right. They only have a small selection from each brand's catalog on hand at a given time, and usually only one of each, but will provide you with the catalogs so you can peruse them and pick out whichever you'd like to see and try on. It takes a week or two to get them in; they wrote down your name and number to give you a call when they arrive. This is a nice option for unique and elegant jewelry if you're looking for an anniversary gift, graduation present, etc. My mom loves the line of handcrafted silver pieces-- she has at least three sets of earrings and a necklace herself, and has given them as gifts to a couple relatives, all of whom were very happy. These are the kind of pieces people stop you on the street in Manhattan to ask you about... They're always disappointed to hear they're from a little store upstate!

While there, we also asked them to take a 36" strand of pearls which my wife inherited from her mother and make two 18" strands for our granddaughters. Frankly, I was surprised at the prices of the pearls and the repair. Fast forward a few weeks and we were back in town and brought in several pieces for cleaning and repairs. Yeah, these folks are so good at what they do, and so reasonable in their pricing that we now save our jewelry issues for RJ Stohr Jewelers. Went in with a friend to see if they had any physical media, turns out they had a pretty great…read morecollection of dvds and vhs tapes, we spent over 30 minutes making our selections, excited because the pricetag on the boxes listed them as $1, pretty standard for thrift store used dvd prices. We get up to the register with about 10 of them, excited for our haul. After saying, "saw these were a buck each so we had to get a few" the guy at the register goes "oh...no, thats the old price tags, they are $5 each. Physical media is taking off now" We very dissapointedly left our dvds and exited. Let me just say a few things: As a customer coming into your store to buy 2nd or even 3rd hand dvds in "meh" quality, charging $5 a pop is insane, especially because you can get them brand new from walmart for that price. Next is that to have the audacity to say "I bought these from a reseller" to a customer is just nuts, Its not my business where you get your inventory, the fact that we chose to spend our time enjoying perusing your store going through your acquisitions should be way more than enough. Next up is having pricetags on it and then changing the price at checkout is highly illegal. Under Section 396 of New York State's General Business Law it is illegal for a merchant to charge you a higher price at checkout than what was advertised, displayed, or marked on the item. The state enforces strict truth-in-advertising and transparent pricing rules to protect consumers. Purely based on the young guy's attitude I have filed an official complaint with the NYS attorney general's consumer complaints portal. And finally, above all, good luck selling those, i don't know a single person who would pay more than a buck for a Katherine Heigl movie. Don't shop here.

Okay, wow. I usually limit my reviews to just restaurants and bars, but De L'or isn't yet on Yelp…read moreand it must be. I love Hudson so dearly, and it's because of places like this. While I'll likely never get anything other than my ears pierced, I have many more piercings than the average person (between both ears -- not talking about my brain in this instance, he he -- I now have 12). I've had a range of piercing experiences, and while none have ever been bad (unless you count my first time getting my ears pierced when I was 9 and I hyperventilated for two hours at a Piercing Pagoda in the King of Prussia Mall while my mom silently questioned why she decided to have kids), this was on another level. I came here on a whim last week. Quite randomly, my hairdresser, who I used to see in NYC, moved to Hudson a few years ago still cuts my hair. I saw her post a few times about De L'or so I figured I'd pop in during my next trip to Hudson. What I did not expect is that I'd walk out with four new cartilage piercings (the max allowed) and plans for more. I wish I could remember the name of the woman working at the register because she was the main reason I ended up going for so many piercings. She is not a piercer, but she clearly knows a lot about piercing, earscapes, design, style, etc. She chatted with me for much longer than she needed to, discussing potential options for what I was looking for. Three or four years ago I tried to get my tragus pierced, but the piercer I went to told my my ear anatomy could not allow for one (that is a legit thing, as I've learned). The piercing plan included a tragus piercing, so the woman helping me told me that Mahalia, the owner and piercing extraordinaire, could give the final verdict. Mahalia came out and not only did she tell me that I have "cool ears" (my ears aren't particularly big or small so I've never thought about them that much), but she said all of the piercings discussed were possible. So there I was, determined, encouraged, an unexpectedly flattered. They don't take appointments (at this point) so I had to wait a bit but not too long. Mahalia was awesome start to finish. She took me back to the piercing area and was extremely clear and thorough about what to expect and aftercare. Four cartilage piercings is a lot in one sitting, she was not wrong. But she made the entire experience comfortable and uplifting, taking care to check in with me before and after each piercing given how intense the process can be with cartilage. She gave me longer posts on one of my ears to account for swelling and told me to come back in 6-8 weeks so she could change them out for standard posts (guess that means another trip to Hudson!). I'm obsessed with how they all look and have already gotten tons of compliments. I'd be surprised if I don't end up with another piercing or two after I return in May!
