After a week of home cooked meals at a fishing camp, we needed a good greasy spoon. 17 was the only sit down restaurant nearby and we were happy we stopped in. They were MAD busy with a lunch rush. We ordered double burgers with bacon, poutine(pronounced Putin), and sausage with pierogies. The burgers were hand packed 1/4 pounders, juicy and scrumptious. The sausage was of a local origin and the pierogies, we believe, were hand made. The poutine, a side, came on a huge plate that neither of us finished. After doing work for the owners who said I would be paid, I gave them my bill for all the work I had done thus far. They were to get the materials needed but kept giving excuses that "they forgot" or "it's the wife's job or the husband's job to get it" or "I'll pick it up today" but never did. They tell you they want you to do another job for them but choose not to get what's needed & then gives that job to someone else because the person needs the money. I need the money too. They still owe me money but feel they don't have to pay the amount of the bill because they think it's too expensive & over priced in their opinion. The wife wasn't willing to take a few minutes to talk me when I went in - as soon as she saw me she started pushing buttons on the till as if in frustration to cause a scene & a reason to not talk to me. What happens when people go into a restaurant, orders the most expensive food & when comes time to pay the bill you say "you charge too much, I'm only going to pay $5.00?" - does anyone know? Sure you do. Way over-priced for the poor service that some - not all - their staff give but expect a tip. When you order tea - you shouldn't have to tell/ ask them to boil the water first & serve it hot not Luke warm ... Let me ask - when you order a hamburger (which the menu says what it comes with) if you choose not to have those things on it - is the price of the hamburger reduced? No - it's not. And people wonder why they go thru so much staff? You understand "over worked & under paid". read more

Growing up 'the 17 ' was where you'd go for lunch with your mom on Saturday while shopping downtown and where you'd pile into a booth with your friends after the movies and eat bowls of rice and gravy. There has been very few owners over the years and these folks have had it for a while now. Location: Main Street. On the corner. Parking: On street metered parking. Think it's 1 an hour or something like that or there's a huge parking lot behind the building along the river. No worries parking is plentiful. Even if you get a ticket I think it's $7 or not much more. Decor. They have booths and tables. There is a longer table I. The back and a side room that can be used for special occasions and it's over flow when the restaurant is super busy. Staff Everyone is really nice. Even when it's busy there are smiles and friendly words! Food It's good. The last few times I've been haven't been up to the level that is has been In the past but it's still a good restaurant with good food. I'll come and visit every time I'm in town. We stopped in here while traveling to Sault Ste Marie. The nearby Tim Horton's was busy so we came here, and am glad we did. This appears to be a local hangout, several people mentioned they had been there before. We both had the Whitefish Platter, fish portion was very generous. Food is great and homecooked. We love breakfast the most! (Until 11am) The homemade bread is where it is at! It is usually pretty busy, but that always means the food is fresh. The vibe on the booth side is sunny, whereas the other side is pretty dark. We suggest a booth to enjoy the most out of the experience by the highway. read more

Pork loin tenderloin special was good but a little dry. The cream of potato bacon soup was good - a little bland. The fries are great! The Greek salad was okay & burgers are a safe standby. The best is the homemade bread. Very fair prices. 4 Stars for Blind River though :) good enough to stop at every time on our way through. read more

Passing through on our way home to the states, we were surprised to find something this good with such reasonable prices. The fish and chips were terrific, the pierogis very good, and the Sheppard's pie was pretty decent. I found the service to be friendly and reasonably quick. Very moderatley priced. Had the lemon pepper whitefish (pan fried). Filet was very generous and as good as I have had at any restaurant that I have been to in No MI. Dinner included 2 choices of sides. They will pick you up at the local marina (we sailed in) and take you back. Owner (Ken) and staff (Kim waited on us) are very personable and accomodating.
