The views are always a plus when coming here, no doubt about that. We stopped in and sat at the bar to get a drink and grab a quick bite to eat, I had the jumbo crab cakes and my wife had the salmon. The crab cakes were okay, not as flavorful as I had them before, but the fingerlings were tasteful, the shrimp had a good grilled flavor, I ordered an $8 side of shrimp and received six pieces, which I thought was a little odd for a side order, my drink was nice and strong. Unfortunately, my wifes salmon was completely burnt on the bottom which was disappointing. Our food had already taken so long to come out that by that point, we didn't even want to wait around to have the issue addressed or the salmon remade. My wifes drink was also very syrupy and overly sweet, we addressed this with the bartender and she said she could add another shot for $8, we kindly declined and she took it off our bill which was nice. The service from the bartender was good, our food just took way too long and then we spent all that time waiting only for the meal itself to be mediocre. The views and atmosphere are still great, but the food experience this time around definitely fell short. read more

Nice views in what appears to be a nice hotel. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a mocktail that was good. I ordered the shrimp/salmon scampi. The scallops were not great and it was so salty. I enjoy salty food but it was a little much. My husband had the duck and really enjoyed it. The sauce had a cinnamon type of flavor that was good. The blue crab hushpuppies were kind of just normal hushpuppies, not a lot of crab. For the price the food was very mid level. We took a step out to the balcony which I thought was kind of lacking as well. You call yourself "the rooftop" but the outdoor area is very small, has one sitting area, and two small, knee level tables that don't have chairs. If you were to sit at the seating area, you couldn't even see over the wall at the view. The restaurant still had the breakfast cereals/bar out from breakfast which was fine but I would've put that away. I don't think we would come back since I don't drink alcohol anymore and the food wasn't worth returning. If you want a nice bar to sit at, then this would be perfect. read more

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious cocktails, Wonderful venue for a night out with friends or date night.

We were excited to try 1717 The Rooftop for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The service, atmosphere and food were all extremely good. We had blue crab hush puppies for appetizer, I had shrimp pasta and my husband had filet mignon and it was all delicious. He even said it may be the best steak he's ever had. My one complaint is the way the restaurant is situated. In the dining room, the full length windows face north, which makes for a fairly snoozy evening view after about 5 minutes because all you see are the tops of empty office (and other daytime business) buildings and then just trees as far as you can see. There is a great view of the courthouse. Meanwhile the outdoor patio, which only has two tables and a lounge-type area has a great view of downtown, ECU campus and much of Greenville and the sunset. It seems they built it all backwards. I made that comment to the bartender and the hostess and they agreed. It seems you'd want the best possible view for your diners. A really odd design choice. No matter, we'll definitely be back to try the crème brûlée! read more

Talk about a power trip... you won't be treated well here if you're under 30. My friends and I went (all 22-25) to get some drinks and were treated like a street rat from the manager. I should have caught her name but I was blinded with rage. She had shoulder length gray hair and a nasty look on her face. All of the other staff were lovely. However, that manager... horrible! I approached a table with about 8 chairs but only 4 people sat there. I asked if I could snag a chair (we we're seated at the couch chairs). They said yes and I brought the chair over. Shortly after, the manager came over and spoke to us like we killed her dog, telling us that chair was for customers at different seating. Saying she was nasty is an understatement honestly. My friend asked if she could get us another chair and she obliged...reluctantly. Then I was irritated and my poor friends wouldn't hear the end of it. The one's who didn't see her maltreatment thought I was overreacting. A worker noticed our lack of seating and moved us to a big table where we could all sit. It was there where the hateful great white stalked her pray with a look of malice. My friends then came to me and said, "I see what you mean. She is eyeing us with a nasty look on her face." And if you're reading this review you may be thinking we were obnoxious or acting out. However, the first approach about the chair was not 10 minutes after we arrived. And after that we weren't being any louder than anyone else there. I surmise this treatment was based on our age because we were the youngest people in there and she was all smiles and kind words for everyone else. Overall this woman tainted my experience and I hope something is done about it. I wanted to make a bigger deal about it but feared getting kicked out and ruining the night for my friends. And to the white haired manager if you're reading this, I hope something good happens in your life so you don't feel the need to put others down. It's truly sad and I feel bad for you :) read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE! The front hostess by the elevator ruined the whole experience, to the point where I won't be back. Drinks were okay, overcharged for what they were. The actual outdoor area was very small and the view was nothing too spectacular. There are way better places in the area if you're wanting a cocktail. read more

My fries were burned, the burger was hanging off the bun, lettuce was wilted and cheese was barely noticeable. Another waitress brought us beverage refills. Our table was second to place orders and last to receive our orders. A to go order for someone at our table was delivered to the table before we received our orders. We received our orders after our reserved time. I do not plan to patronize this establishment or recommend to others. read more

Drinks 5/10, way overpriced and I think it was premixed, however the roaches on the rooftop bar were a 2/10. Made friends with about 7 roaches in the 20 minutes we sat outside on the rooftop area. It was great until it wasn't. Enjoyed my cocktail but it would have been much better with out the cockroaches. So long Bill, Tim, Allen, and Tommy. It was chill hanging by out with yall but I prefer we never meet again. read more

We had an excellent experience. Cool views on top of the hotel. You have to enter through hotel lobby which feels a bit odd when you're not staying there but glad there is a hotel and cool restaurant in that area. They have small plates and large. There does need to be a bit more variety on the menu but all the food we had was very good. The prices are in line for this type of place. Some might feel these are high but these are typical. The service was excellent. We had several checking on us including manager. read more

While the ambience and location would otherwise be fine, the food is incredibly bland. Several dishes tasted oily/not fresh, and as though they had zero salt -- a few friends who had the same dish complained of stomach issues the following day. The $7 side of "crispy" french fries was dark/burned and bitter from oil but somehow still soft. An $11 plate of six individual deviled eggs was the best dish I tasted, but no better than you might get at a southern family reunion. In an otherwise upscale-looking bar and restaurant, sports are blaring on a huge TV directly behind restaurant patrons that the staff will not turn down or off, diminishing the upscale quality. It will take big improvements in food quality and the management of the atmosphere to get us to come back. Having only been open a few weeks, we are hoping these issues will be quickly corrected for future success. read more
