We really enjoyed the happy hour with wines and cheeses. The staff was friendly and treated us well . Best of all , it's within walking distance of everything downtown ! Each room is unique and tastefully decorated. Our room, The Dogwood, had a very comfortable four poster queen bed as well as a claw foot tub. The inn has comfortable seating areas and porches on both first and second floors. Breakfast was made to order, the earth eggs were fantastic. Coffee, tea and an awesome cake made by Darla was available throughout our entire stay. The owners, John and Diane are excellent hosts, friendly and great ambassadors for the area. The inn is perfectly situated within a minutes walk to the downtown shops and restaurants. If I'm back in the area again, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. read more

Great location. Walking distance to downtown. The issue was the service - or lack thereof. For example, no housekeeping unless specifically requested since Covid but no other Covid precautions (ie, using Covid as an excuse to cut back on services). Room was lackluster. It was clean but nothing spectacular. Have stayed in many B&Bs and this is one of the few that I can sadly say I won't return to. read more

Came here for the 4th of July. The inn is fabulous! I've been to many bed and breakfast places and none have had the breakfast selection that they have. Also, super close to downtown so you can walk there and drink without having to worry about it. Lots of cute places downtown so you'll have plenty of choices for food and drink. I stayed at The Waverly Inn over two years ago and just realized my review was still a draft. Oops. The Inn has been under new ownership for about 3 years. The couple, Mike and Tracey moved from Charlotte to Hendersonville to fulfill a dream and adventure of being B&B owners. What a blessing for guests. They are two of the nicest people! The staff was also friendly and helpful. The house is absolutely beautiful. Every room is unique and there is a sitting room on the third floor to read, chat or just relax. But I recommend you enjoy a cocktail and coffee on the large front porch. There are plenty of rocking chairs and even a swing! The breakfast was delicious. You are in walking distance to craft breweries, restaurants, live music and shops. Ask the staff for recommendations and Enjoy! read more

This rating is based on just a quick drop in after an amazing show at the Flat Rock Playhouse. I did NOT spend the night nor have a meal. But when we came back after the play, we arrived just a few minutes before Happy Hour and the cordial owner poured us a glass of wine to "tide us over" until she put out the cheese and crackers selection. Please bear in mind that my friend was staying there and has been a regular there for years whenever she's in town. Nonetheless, I was made to feel right and home and welcome. There was a selection of cheeses, fruits, crackers and the most delicious home made pimento cheese I've ever tasted. It had bacon in it and I could become addicted! The Waverly is charming; beautiful millwork; appropriate period furnishings; enchanting fireplaces; and a carpet with a lovely subtle pattern. My friend was in the front guestroom which sported a quaint cross stitch framed sign telling the name. There is the same on the door of every room and they are named for local flora. Her's was the Rhododendron Suite. Even though I wasn't there for a meal, I heard nothing but rave reviews for their breakfast. Plenteous variety and whatever they are serving, you may have. The dining area is charming with small glass topped tables. Even though I have a cabin in the area, I'm seriously considering planning an overnight at Waverly Inn just to enjoy the ambience! read more

During my stay here, I felt like I was at home :) I stayed here during the freakish winter of 2009/2010. For those who don't remember, it snowed all across the south from DC to Atlanta to Dallas. Hendersonville is a mountain town, with crisp mountain air that had an arctic feel at this time of year. I was worried about being cold because this bed & breakfast is in an old house, but they were well prepared- I was offered a plethora of blankets, as well as a space heater. At first I was skeptical and considered asking for an old-style hot charcoal bed warmer, but I was fine :) (I can be a drama queen when I'm uncomfortable!) The room was so pleasant, I had plenty of Queen Anne furniture (I believe it was Queen Anne....I love settees!) and I enjoyed the complimentary internet and I was pleased with its speed. Downstairs, every morning I was asked what I would like for breakfast. Whaaaaaa? "You'll cook me cheese grits and bacon? Or oatmeal and some OJ? Or just a few pieces of fruit? You have eggs coming out of the skillet as we speak!?!?!?!" I felt like I was at home!! And at night, when I dragged my chilled bones through the doors, I was offered tea, coffee, cookies, punch, cake, pie- I SHOULD HAVE GAINED 10 POUNDS WHILE I WAS THERE!! They were super nice about letting me take my tea to my room. At the end of the week I didn't want to leave because I was so comfortable!! It seemed like such a hassle to go home and cook for myself! My husband surprised me with a 2 night stay here for our anniversary. It is gorgeous and well kept. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the ladies who served breakfast and cleaned our room were just lovely. It is in a great location with the downtown area being only one block away. There were cute stores and great restaurants to eat at. The inn was only about 30 min away from Asheville so we spent one afternoon there. Our room at the inn was so cute and the bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in. There was happy hour each night from 5-6. The breakfasts were delicious. My bf and I stayed here after I bought a livingsocial voucher. Hendersonville was one of the cities we visited while making the long road trip down from Maryland to Florida. The rooms are all very beautiful and well-decorated. Due to this, I had a hard time deciding which room to pick when booking my reservation by phone. The voucher was limited to rooms with queen size beds only, so it was a toss-up for me between Closed Genetian or Wild Geranium. I ended up going with the vibrantly red Wild Geranium located on the second level of the house. After a long 7 or so hours of driving, we reached Waverly Inn, which is a three story house with various rooms. We were greeted at the front desk and everything was explained to us about our keys, how to get in and out of the inn, breakfast, etc. After settling our luggage into our room, we set to exploring the inn. There were beautiful places to sit, a recreational room, a porch that led outside, complimentary sodas/coffee/teas downstairs, a spacious living room, to name a few. Most of the various rooms that could be booked were not locked and were open for viewing. We had been told upon arrival that they were not expecting anyone else but us. Some of the rooms looked more beautiful in person than as seen on the website. I almost wished I had picked another room! However, my bf assured me that I had made the right decision by choosing Wild Geranium. Our room was clean and spacious. As stated on the livingsocial voucher deal, a red tin of cookies were at the bottom of the bed with a single red rose in a vase, in addition to a complimentary bottle of wine with two glasses. The bathtub was very cutely decorated with a blue air headrest, bath salts, bubble bath, and a rubber ducky to complete the set. It is an old house, however, and the water pressure was not very strong for the bath. Flushing the toilet also took a little bit of time, as well as the gentle persuasion of keeping the lever lowered until the toilet finished its draining cycle. The sink also had a problem draining, and water filled up quickly even during the short duration of washing up. I am not sure if all the sinks have this problem in the other rooms, and can only speak for Wild Geranium. It was, however, a bit tedious washing my face and brushing my teeth when the sink filled up so quickly, and I found myself having to wait 5-10 minutes each time for enough water to drain, or to be extra careful as to not let the water overflow. Perhaps this is due to old piping or something clogging the drain. In either case, I felt like I was at home dealing with a clogged sink, and felt like I should have had a Drano on hand. The inn is located right on Main Street and the main attractions are within walking distance if one does not have a car. We had a car, however, and chose to drive the short distance to the sights I wanted to see. For those without a car, however, this inn is very close to various attractions. When it was time to sleep, it sounded as though other visitors had checked into the inn, or as if other people were staying in the inn that night. I am not sure if these were family members or customers. What I do know is that the other people in the house were staying on the third level room right above us because I could hear every single step they made. The floor would creak with every footstep and I heard them going up and down the stairs a couple of times. I could also hear the cars driving down Main St. all night long. In short, I did not get a very restful night's sleep. In the morning, I could again hear the people on the third floor. I could almost hear their conversations, that's how thin the walls were. To be fair, however, my boyfriend loved this place and did not have any trouble sleeping, whatsoever, despite the noise. I, however, am a light sleeper. This was our first bed and breakfast, and I woke up early in time for breakfast, but somehow fell back asleep due to being so tired. My bf is not an early riser, so we ended up missing the breakfast altogether. Ironic that in our first bed and breakfast experience, we missed breakfast! We checked out on time. I didn't see any of the innkeepers, but saw a sign at the front desk that said keys could be dropped into a jar. We dropped off our keys and checked out. I would give 3 stars for a lovely old home with a charming atmosphere. I would not, however, recommend this inn if you are looking for a restful night's sleep or for a quiet house. Perhaps the third floor is less noisy since there are no floors above that one. The rooms that are not facing towards the roads may also provide a quieter choice for light sleepers. read more

Just had three great nights at the 1898 Waverly Inn; it was a terrific experience. Amazing breakfasts--the sausage was the best I've ever had, apparently only found locally. Happy hour on the beautiful old porch was the best, with plenty of appetizers, the Inn's own pimento cheese on crackers and a large glass of wine (well, actually two glasses of wine). We were lucky to be there on a Wednesday evening with live music--all of this for no extra charge. The owners are so helpful and friendly, the staff very customer-service oriented and the Inn extremely charming. Hendersonville is a wonderful place to rest, relax, explore and enjoy and Waverly is the perfect place to stay. I highly recommend it! read more

Just leaving the Inn after a glorious 2 night stay! We stayed in the beautiful blue and white Closed Gentian bedroom on the second floor by the porch. Most comfortable bed ever! We did not want to get out. We had the best time both nights at their social hour, where they provide local craft beers, sangria, and a selection of wines as well as cheese and crackers and the most amazing pimiento cheese I have ever had in my life. I suggested they sell that stuff and he said they're planning to in the near future. We got to talk a lot with Mike, the innkeeper, and he is the friendliest, most personable guy. He even let us try these smoked bacon-wrapped jalapeños he's testing for restaurant week and YUM!!!! Breakfast both mornings was spectacular. The specials while we were there were Banana Pudding Pancakes (amazingly not too sweet but the perfect amount of richness and just like banana pudding) and the next day was the Waverly Breakfast Skillet with 2 eggs sunny side up (or cooked to your liking) over pimiento cheese grits with bacon. You don't have to order the special; you're given a menu where you check off what you'd like. So many options. The inn is in the perfect location and we walked everywhere except Saint Paul Mountain Vineyard. We will be back. Thank you for everything! read more

Located right in the center of downtown Hendersonville, the inn mixes the feelings of a small southern town paired with the city feel, where everything you need is right at your fingertips. Breakfast included the specialty pimento cheese and sausage quiche; the savory treat was the perfect way to start the day and had me coming back for seconds. They are friendly, knowledgeable and conscientious. We grabbed the Romance package and stayed in the beautiful Dogwood room. The bed was fantastic; we slept like babies! I stayed at the 1898 Waverly Inn on May 10th through May 12th. I was given a room on the first floor, which I liked. The Inn is very convenient by foot to the Main Street shops and restaurants. They take care of your every need at the Waverly Inn and the breakfast is super delicious, especially the 6 grain blueberry/pecan pancakes with syrup, which was a special the friday morning I was there. John, the inn keeper, was a very genial and knowledgeable host and gave me the idea of getting around by bicycle, if I should choose to live in Hendersonville, NC. Good piece of information for wherever I end up living; never thought of that before! I'm going to miss the pretty Carolina breakfast dining room; a real beauty. I can't think of a better place to stay in Hendersonville, NC, if I was to go there again. And I miss the great breakfasts and the room where they were served by gracious people. cd read more

Me and my wife had always wanted to stay in a bed and breakfast. Almost a year ago our oldest son moved to the Ashville area. It gave a good excuse to go to North Carolina. We did alot of research or my wife did and we discovered that the Waverly Inn had a great reputation and pretty good deal for us when we stayed there. We stayed for four days and were absolutely sold on staying there again. they were very personable and friendly. I can't say enough about the meals we ate and I really loved their home made jam they had there. let's not forget the home made cookies. They were in a great location. Our room was outstanding and so very comfortable. They were clean and cleaned every day when we returned from our daily adventures. WE HIghly recommend staying at the Waverly Inn. This weekend, my family stayed at the 1898 Waverly Inn due to a death in the family. The ownership of this Inn recently changed hands and my sister and brother-in-law noticed some unfortunate changes. The problems started Friday night when my son noticed a mouse on his shoe. After searching the room, my husband found the mouse. We tried to catch it, but it ran under the gap between the door and the floor. My husband promptly notified the owner who said that "gave her the shivers." We asked for towels to block the gap between the door and floor. She provided 2 towels and told my husband "the mice don't usually go to the third floor." About an hour later, another mouse showed up. I'm not sure where they were entering the room. At breakfast, we learned that my father found a mouse on the second floor, scooped it into cup, and let it out in the front bushes. He did not want my mother to find out that there were mice. We stayed the second night because it was not possible to find other accommodations where we could all stay together. Please note, while the room appeared clean on arrival, after searching under beds, furniture, and in the bathroom for the mouse, we discovered the room was actually filthy. There were discarded cups, small bottles of lotion, and dirt under the beds. The owners did not apologize to me or offer any type of solution to the mouse situation. I sent this review to the couple who owns the Inn prior to posting. They asked me to contact them regarding the post, but I declined. If they wanted to make things right, they would have addressed the situation while we were there. It's my experience that if there is an issue, you fix the issue. Also, a nice bottle of wine with an apology goes a long way. I saw the wife on at least four different occasions on Saturday with other guests. She did not mention a word about the problem or offer an apology. The husband got into town on Saturday. I met him on the porch with a number of other guests, and he did not apologize or mention the issue. I chose not to say anything in front of the other guests because I did not want to ruin anyone's vacation. Next door to the 1898 Waverly Inn is the Charleston Inn. We ate dinner there on Saturday night. That inn appeared to be much more modern and much cleaner. If deciding between the two, I strongly recommend trying the Charleston Inn. read more

My husband and I just stayed at the 1898 Waverly Inn in Hendersonville NC. We were very pleased with our stay. Breakfast was awesome, as they have you fill out your order when you sit down for breakfast - they have their standard items: eggs, sausage, bacon, home-fries, grits, fruit, toast, etc. PLUS, they have a daily special. You can choose whatever you want! This B&B is large enough that they have a small staff to serve you, yet still small enough to provide personal attention to you. Oh yeah, and every evening there's a social hour (I wish we would have done) and they serve a cake. Also, you just walk down the street to the main part of town and there are many, many little restaurants, pubs, ice cream parlors, etc, so no need to go driving for dinner out, if you don't want. The room was clean, beds were comfy - our room had an extra sitting room - which was very pleasant. We highly recommend this place. read more
