Super cute spot in Westfield. They have self service kiosks that make ordering a breeze. The place was relatively empty when my group entered and it was spotless and clean. I had a hotdog with ketchup, sauerkraut, and candied bacon. Nice size hot dog and the toppings were plentiful and delicious. The bread was fresh. The highlight of my visit was the staff. Jessica was at the front counter and she was such a pleasure to meet. Every restaurant needs a Jessica! She was so friendly, bubbly and full of life. I'm introverted but I was so comfortable just chatting away with her the entire time we waited for food. Additional members of the staff came up front and they were so kind and friendly as well. **Green Monster Sauce has Avocado** I usually stop by their Westwood location and get their hotdogs. They're fairly priced and pretty good. However, I was in Westfield with my wife today and we decided to order. It was early afternoon and after placing 2 orders they came back with certain hotdogs not available. So their website was inaccurate. On the 3rd order, I decided to get a Cheeseburger and my wife a Cheesesteak. You would think that a Cheesesteak would be what you expect, it's not something that's uncommon. 1950s had this Green Monster Sauce that everyone was raving about. So we thought, okay, it looks good. When we picked up our order and were finally eating our meal, my wife realized that the Green Monster Sauce had Avocado. She's allergic to Avocado! We are typically cautious when ordering due to allergies, but in no way prior to ordering we had an ounce of thought that a Cheesesteak would contain Avocado. Going back to the restaurant to explain the situation we were met with resistance and unwillingness to assist with the matter. And during this time the website had update the name from Green Monster Sauce to Monster Avocado Sauce... really?... anyone can do a google search and see this was marketed for weeks as Green Monster Sauce. I'd hate to think that they changed it on the spot while giving us a hard time regarding the order. But when you put the pieces together, what else happened? They finally remade the order and substituted the "Green Monster Sauce" to Chipotle Sauce with a 10% discount in price. Fair? I think not. But because we were in town for an event and hungry, we opted to just go with it so we can have our meal. We tried this place with a couple of our friends. Fairly small place with just a few tables, but it's centered in the town of Westfield. They have self service kiosk where you could order at the counter if anyone is standing there. We ordered a hotdog, burger, chicken sandwich and Rangoon fries Cesar fries. Prices are pretty average was slightly disappointed with the size of the burger . The fries were interesting and flavor wise was pretty good . We didn't have to wait super long for our order. A decent dog that didn't quite live up to my expectations. I read the dogs are cooked in beef tallow so I was expecting the hot dog to be glistening from the fat and perhaps have a bit of blistered skin. Mind you, I didn't order the dog "well done" and perhaps that was my fault. I got the pork/beef hot dog and it was standard. It was a big hot dog though! The bun wasn't toasted and I'm not sure if they offer that? I didn't see it listed. I ordered the Hot Honey Pimiento hot dog from the Special menu. This is not the pimiento I'm used to it. I tasted only cream cheese. It seemed cream cheese was scooped onto the dog and then yellow cheese was pressed into it versus the "cheese" being seasoned and mixed together. All-in-all, it didn't meet my expectations. I was expecting a more elevated hot dog. This is a little place with about 5 tables that seat 2 people each. The interior is black and white and perhaps it's the decor but I wouldn't want to sit and eat-in. The room was on the cooler side. They don't have condiments out but you can ask for them and they did offer them. No napkins on the table but they do give you some with your order. Had to add the Westfield location. Saw this place pop-up on Instagram, looked it up, & was super excited to learn that they had a newer location very close to home. A small venue where you order at a kiosk in the heart of the downtown Westfield area. Metered street or lot parking is all around you. They have a simple vibe, staff is very friendly, explaining their monthly specials & way they do things. The food was delicious!! We each made our own custom dogs. One with sauerkraut & potato sticks, the other with chili, sweet onion, & red relish. We also ordered the Double Cheese Burger. Soooo good. Also, for hot dogs you can choose whether you want pork or beef. The fries are fried in beef fat (even though we didn't get them), & the dogs are fried for a crispy exterior. 100% sure I will be back. So many fry options I wanna try. OMG! I've been dying to try this place since they came into town and finally did. My boyfriend hates hotdogs and doesn't even like the look of them if someone else is eating them. I had to take advantage of him not being with me at the time. The girl behind the counter was so sweet and suggested I try the dog with pimento cheese and hot honey. I took her up on that suggestion and was quite pleased. As I waited for my food, I sat at a table behind four maybe preteen boys. They were so cute saying things like oh my God this crab Rangoon fries are so good and bro you really gotta try one of these. It was so cute. I knew I was in for a good meal. I received my hotdog wrapped to go and could see that there were three globs of pimento cheese placed on the hotdog. I kind of spread it out with my finger so that I wasn't eating a whole glob and a bite. The hot dog was cooked perfectly and the topping was interestingly good. I've wanted to try 1950 Originals for a while and was excited when they opened up a location in Westfield, which is closer than their other location. I'd say it mostly lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, the people were very friendly and I like that they take chances with their menu. It's just hard to justify paying almost $7 for a hot dog and $9 for a burger (even if they're both quality) when New Jersey is filled with more affordable (and in some cases better) hot dog and burger joints. Am I glad I finally tried them out? Yes. Would I go back? Probably not unless one of their seasonal items really caught my eye. read more

I got takeout for the family, very disappointed in the food. I got the hot dog with candied bacon and peanut butter sauce, cheeseburger, hamburger, and throwback burger. The bacon on the hit dog was too hard and difficult to chew. I took most of it off. The peanut butter sauce was ok, but didnt pair well with dog once the inedible bacon was removed. The pork-beef dog itself was fine. The burgers were gray and boring, almost no flavor. My son said it was like a cafeteria burger. I expected something better but was disappointed by the high price, food quality and lackluster of the restaurant. A hamburger, the size of a slider is $6 and add an extra patty is $8. I got the maple bacon peanut butter dog. It was mostly sweet and the chopped bacon (not crispy) was overwhelming the peanut butter dog. The decor was bland - black and white. It did not give me the sense of the 1950s unless the owner hated that time period or just didn't care. The staff was not professional and I expected them to dress the part instead of being on their phones most of the time. The food is over rated. Went here 2 times. My wife and I went when they first opened and had 2 plain hot dogs and fries. They were delicious. My son and I who do burger reviews throughout NJ went here yesterday for the burgers. The service was pretty slow considering we only had one person in front of us. Took 25mins to get 2 burgers and a crab Rangoon fry. The staff was very pleasant. We both had double burgers with the house sauce. The sauce was really good as it tasted like Smashburger sauce. The burgers were disappointing as they were extremely overcooked and dry. Like really dry! The hero was the Crab Rangoon fries. They were sooooo good. We will definitely be back but not sure if we will give the burgers another shot. read more

I tried this place for lunch on a Thursday. Surprisingly empty.I had the classic dog with sauerkraut and mustard with a side of fries and Ice Tea. The fries were crispy definitely needed seasoning, the hot was okay I expected better based on the hype and I don't know why they use a 6" bun for a 9" dog. The prices are higher than expected for the food. The inside was ok but no music or you could hear was a commercial for the place on auto repeat or the online order signaling bell. This review pertains to 1950 Original's BRAND NEW shop that opened recently in Westfield, NJ. It was interesting that they only offer burgers, dogs and fries. We opted for the hot dogs. They're 9 inches long like the dogs at Costco, but instead of being steamed in a box all day, they're deep-fried in tallow and served on a potato roll. The choice of toppings is original for sure. (See the Yelp links for descriptions and some photos.) Imagine these toppings: Pumpkin Spice Chili, Black Garlic Cream, Crispy Black Sticky Rice, Cheddar Cheese, house made candy bacon and creamy peanut butter sauce. They also have the standard toppings: Mustard, Ketchup, Sourkraut etc. If anything, they overdo the toppings; making it a real challenge to avoid creating a mess. I had the spicy onion topping - almost too spicy, but delicious. The establishment, which is across the street from Ferraro's, is about the width of a hallway - tight - so if they really catch on, you'll probably have to wait on a line 24 minutes before you can order... and good luck finding a seat. All in all though, their dogs are fairly priced, tasty and imaginative. Oh, and you can order ahead on their website to avoid some of the wait time. We'll be visiting them again I'm sure. First of all the delivery was extended four different times and the driver was quick to blame the restaurant. But the food was beyond disgusting. The fries cold and limp and no salt or pepper. Yet they rave about them on their website. But the worst was their 1950 style hotdog. The buns were soggy and literally fell apart in my hands. The hotdog its self was cold and the skin seemed old and hard. Truly Inedible. After 2 min and 3 bites I through the entire thing in the garbage. I usually give my dog a bite or two of takeout. I did not do it tonight. I would not give this slop to my dog. Oh and best of all it cost close to $30. Saw a video on instagram that got me very excited for this place. Got 2 chili cheese dogs, one beef one pork and beef, fries and cheese sauce. Took them to go because the three tables there were full. I live 2 minutes away. The buns were so beyond soggy, the raw onions smelled so rancid I had to pick them all off just to eat my dog. Could smell them through the closed container, inside the paper to go bag, inside a closed SCENTED garbage bag. I ended up having to take the entire garbage out of my apartment. The dogs themselves had no snap, barely any flavor, and the chili sauce was vaguely sweet but ultimately bland. The cheese sauce was just okay, pretty bland as well. The one positive of this $26 order was the fries. Crispy and tasty, not soggy even tho they were transported. I had such high hopes and this was a major let down.
