Exhausted & hungry, I pulled into this Jamaican restaurant after 2 hour drive picking up an antique Wheelhorse 654 garden tractor that day. I ordered my favorite Jamaican dish, the Oxtails. I've had Oxtails at half a dozen Jamaican places, the Oxtail here is the most flavorful I've had, amazingly delicious! The portions are perfect. Other Jamaican restaurants are typically take-out places, fast casual instead if sit-down dinning, they do tend to give more meat but they weren't as tasty as this. I also loved the fact that I got both rice & plantains! The young waitress was the daughter of the owner & she was super friendly, chatty & genuinely a nice person. We live in town and I have been driving by Miss Pinny for a while now, but have not had a chance to check them out as I have a picky eater little one. But my husband and I managed to sneak away for a dinner,just the two of us, and I was so excited to get to try Miss Penny. We will 100% be back this place did not disappoint! First of all the daughter of the owner and chef was one of the most lovely people. She was just perfect! She welcomed us so warmly and took the time to explain everything on the menu when we were new to Jamaican food. She gave her recommendations for the different fruit juices and what to try on the menu. When my husband with a more adventurous palette tried the oxtail. She was giving him tips on how best to eat and enjoy it. She was so helpful and made the whole experience perfect. I loved the more upscale setting with the white tablecloths and the beautiful dish ware, which made it feel like a nice date spot. I'll be back! I hope this restaurant stays for a long time in Manchester! We started with the jerk chicken eggroll, which was very yummy. I just wish there was a little side of the extra sauce that was d drizzled on top as that was good and I would have liked a little bit more. I'm sure I could've asked for some, and they would have provided it. I ordered the Rasta pasta with jerk chicken, and it was the most perfect flavor and taste. It did have a little bit of spice, but I like spice! And the owner's daughter made sure to let me know so it wasn't a surprise or anything. Came here because a coworker saw the high reviews and wanted oxtail. Got a meat pie and the oxtail entree. The meat pie was tasty. As far as the oxtail it was ok. Not as flavorful as expected. Food was not hot, barely warm. Oxtail had very little meat, mostly bones. For the price of $35 I expected meatier oxtail. With tax and tips it was a steep $50 meal. I attended a Dinner Club through CT Buzz here last week and it was a delightful surprise! Free parking is right down the street and the decor inside the restaurant was beautiful. We were the only group there and warmly greeted by MonCherie who was extremely attentive the whole evening, providing us with recommendations and information about the Jamaican dishes. I started with Soursop Juice which was an interesting flavor, similar to pineapple/coconut juice. For appetizers, I ordered the Plantain Cups with Ackee and Saltfish (a traditional Jamaican dish) and C ordered the Jerk Chicken Roll. Both were delicious. For my main dish, I ordered the Steamed Red Snapper with rice and peas (which are really red beans) and fried plantains. The rice and beans come with a sauce that helped make it a little less dry. We were visiting Manchester and Long Gut Penny was a restaurant that looked and sounded great.I love Jamaican food. It was excellent! Since I had my dog with me, we had to order and pick up takeout. The food was ready right when they said it would be. The curry goat is delicious! I love goat, and this was the best I've had in many years. It was so tender and the level of spice is perfect. I loved the plantains (not overly sweet) and the peas and rice that accompanied the goat. My friend got the chicken in brown sauce. Yum!! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce is so flavorful. The people were friendly when we picked up the food. Inside it's elegant with white tablecloths on each table. It's refined but not snobby. I look forward to returning to Manchester just to try more of the options on the menu. read more

A local gem with delicious food and amazing service! We dined here on a Tuesday afternoon and felt very welcomed by the staff and owner, Miss Rossetta. We ordered the Miss Pinny Bam Bam Shrimp, Ox Tail, and freshly made Sour Sop Juice. Everything exceeded our expectations, reminding us how comforting a delicious meal can be. The seating was comfortable with lovely white table cloths, matching dinnerware, and a pretty floral piece in the middle. The owners did a great job of reflecting both elegance and warmth in the decor. I'm back after probably a year. The menus look much better. I heard new menus were coming out too. It is located on 856 Main St. in Manchester right next to a classy, brand new parking lot. The server, whom I believe is the owner's daughter, remembers me when I came in here (I am hard to forget). The Happy Hour drinks are only $7 each. These are high quality too! They quickly bring you out a glass of ice cold tap eater. For my first drink, I'm having a Long Island made with tequila, rum, vodka, triple sec and Coke. The server said it is strong. Good! I like it that way. For my first item, I'm having the (small size - off menu) Caesar Salad. It's not exactly a Jamaican delicacy, but I had the other one last time. I'm curious as to how they make it. The Long Island is quite good. It's not super strong, but it's made well and you can taste the alcohol. So this is really the one and only find dining Jamaican restaurant in the state. There are many other Jamaican places nearby (Anthony's, Secrets, The Russell, Jamaican Kitchen, etc.), but none of them are this nice in terms of decor and food quality. Not even close. I love the cute Caesar Salad plate. It smells just it should. The silverware are metal and packed in a clean white cloth napkin. Yep! They got this down Kay! It is perfect! For my next item, I'm having a Callaloo Roll (egg roll) with bell peppers, carrots and mozzarella cheese. For my next appetizer, I'm having the Plaintain Cups Ackee with Saltfish. These are green plantains flash fried with ackee and salt fish on top. I have asked for [even] smaller portions so I can try a few things. Ackee and Saltfish is considered to be Jamaica's national dish. The music is 100% authentic too. I hate tap water so I'm getting a bottle of Perrier instead. Perrier is a natural sparkling mineral water brand that originated in France in 1863. The water comes from the Vergèze spring in the Gard region of southern France. Perrier is known for its distinctive green bottle, effervescent quality, and crisp taste. It has been called the champagne of table waters and is enjoyed in more than 140 countries. Perrier is a sugar-free and calorie-free alternative to carbonated soft drinks. For my next drink, I'm having the Pineapple Cosmo. This is made with Abdolute Citron, triple sec, cranberry and pineapple juice. The food service has slowed up a bit but business has picked up a bit too including takeout orders. The martini isn't bad. It should really extend to the wash line (glass rim), but this isn't a martini bar. For most cocktails--whether they're served up or on the rocks--the ideal wash line is 10-15% below the rim of the glass. This prevents sloshing and spilling while still presenting a drink that has the appearance of being "full." It's close but I've seen higher. I see the owner has just walked in. The "egg rolls" were quite good! Then do "drip" a bit. The Plantain Cups are real good! They have some kick so beware! They have a potato and fish flavor. The Perrier has arrived! Ah! That's much better! For my soup, I'm having the Pumpkin Soup with Chicken. This is a chicken soup made either pumpkin, dumplings, potato, yellow yam and corn. For my next drink, I'm having the Kingston. Named after the capital of Jamaica, this drink is made with White Overproof Rum, hibiscus tea, bitters (extra for me) and pineapple juice. The soup came out quick and it is steaming hot! I mean hot! I love the taste! It's not very salty either. This is one of the soups I've ever had! For my entree, I'm having the Jerk Chicken (leg and thigh; allegedly "spicy") with rice and peas, steamed cabbage with bell peppers and fried plantains. The Kingston has great presentation! I live the sugared rim! This drink has a unique taste! I wasn't expecting a red color. It's got a bit of kick too. I'm told it's the hibiscus tea interacting with the pineapple juice. For my last drink, I'm having the Beet Juice with Carrot. This is made with beet root and carrot blended with nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, nutrament and a hint of Dragon Stout (for flavor) and sweetened with condensed milk. This is light and easy to drink. It's not very heavy or very sweet. It is served with a biodegradable straw. The bathrooms are real clean and have nice decor. They are quite spacious too. It took a bit, but it came out nice and hot with beautiful presentation! Damn! This jerk chicken is good! Wow! The plantains are soft and hot. The veggies are nicely seasoned. Love that rice! They even brought me an extra sauce which has a nice little kick! For dessert, I'm having the Chocolate Cake which is a double chocolate cake with either chocolate or strawberry sauce (strawberry for me). Oh yeah! This is good! What a great meal here! read more

I love Jamaican food but since I enjoy a nice meal out with a cocktail in a relaxed, upscale atmosphere. Until today I didn't know the two together were possible! Dined at Long Gut Miss Pinny for dinner tonight with my husband and what a treat! White cloth table clothes, flowers on the table, FABULOUS booths with Jamaican stripes, music and photos of Jamaica add a nice vibe without being over the top. Atmosphere: 5/5 We each had a cocktail, which, again, pleasant surprise for an ethnic restaurant. Healthy portions for reasonable prices given this is a fine dining establishment. I had the steamed filet of snapper with beans and rice and my husband had the Rasta Pasta with chicken. We each had at least three other items we want to try next. Couldn't finish our entrees but Rosetta, the proprietor, offered me a sample of the rum cake and SO GOOD! Food: 5/5 Janelle our hostess/waitress and Rossetta were both extremely pleasant and efficient. Service 5/5 In addition to the main dining area which seats over 50, they had an inviting bar area with high tops as well as seats at the bar itself. They have a lunch menu also, with a few other items I didn't see on the dinner menu. We will definitely be back for lunch as well as dinner again. Overall 5/5, nice addition to downtown Manchester. Long Gut has been receiving rave reviews since it opened and our first visit was mostly positive. The renovated former bakery space is contemporary, with hardwood, linens and soft lighting. Our server was very knowledgeable and rightfully proud claiming LGMP to be the best Jamaican food in CT. The pineapple cosmo and sour sop natural juice concoction were delicious but a $12 up charge for a shot off rum to the sour sop was an unwelcome aftertaste. The salt cod and ackee combined with yeasty festival was excellent as was the traditional beef patty. Then came an inexplicable 50 minute wait for entrees. There was only one other table occupied. Oxtail stew, flashed fish and jerk chicken do not usually require long cook times. On arrival after a couple of inquiries, the oxtail had a tasty rich beefy sauce but the pan seared whole red snapper lacked the sizzle that is the reason you order the dish. It was dry and lukewarm desperate for moisture that the spicy sauté of onions and peppers did not provide. Our attentive server delivered the entree then disappeared requiring we knock on the kitchen door to chase down some sauce and condiments. The jerk chicken was excellent as was the boneless fish which appeared to be an entirely different beast than the snapper (which is not the case according to the menu) All in all the food was good but as the say on the Bear every second counts and if you want the star you need to be excellent every night for every dinner. First time here and was not disappointed. We frequently eat authentic JA food and this was one of the best restaurant we've been to. From the staff to the ambience to the food. Everything was great. Disclaimer, I do not have a lot of experience with Jamaican food, but in the limited experience I do have it is street food. So when I saw a white cloth higher end restaurant I was intrigued. On entry it was a off time, late lunch on a Friday but the place is spotless. My server was the owner and when she found out my limited experience with Jamaican food she was excited to introduce me. I opted to play it safe and got the jerk pork festival. The meat was neither to spicy nor under spiced but perfect. The sweet bread that came with it was great with the dipping sauce. I was left neither too full nor hungry but it was just perfect. The owners good humor, nice music and good food put a smile on my face. Long Gut Miss Pinny is a very attractive restaurant and bar with excellent and authentic Jamaican food and drink. Their ackee and salt fish was the best that I have had. I have eaten this wonderful dish at 8-10 different Jamaican eateries around the greater Hartford region and my meal at Miss Pinny was the best so far. The name is bit strange to the CT ear but the staff were very nice and the menu was quite comprehensive. There are a number of really good restaurants on Main Street in Manchester, although Bui is greatly missed. Long Gut Miss Pinny is well worth checking out. read more

Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I ordered the jerk chicken salad, which had old tomatoes and no cucumbers (when I asked, they said they were out). The jerk chicken was dry and under-seasoned. As a person from Jamaican descent, I love supporting my people and frequenting Jamaican establishments. The decor very nice and comfortable. The food was awesome did have to wait a while to get the food but it was most definitely worth it. We saw the ad for this place on Instagram and thought we would try it. The restaurant is very clean and has a very calming atmosphere. We were seated right away and were able to place our orders. It took roughly 40 minutes before we got our food. That is long considering the other tables had either finished their meals or were still eating. The food was lightly seasoned compared to other authentic Jamaican restaurants in the Hartford area like Jam-Roc or Dunn's River. It reminded me of a resort I visited in Jamaica where they "watered" down the food for the guests which took away from the true Jamaican experience and culture. As someone who is from the Caribbean, I had higher expectations. I think they have an opportunity to get better and I hope to try it again. The prices are a bit on the high side but not bad for dining inside. read more

We had been to the restaurant many times before its official grand opening and every time there, the service and food were beyond amazing. At the grand opening, the place was packed, the restaurant owner told everyone that she was last minute short staffed and was very humble and apologetic about it. To be clear, the food is made fresh which means there will be a bit of a wait. And yes, they were suddenly unexpectedly understaffed but guess what else? The food did NOT suffer for it!!!! Every morsel was well worth the wait. The food is foot stomping, slap your grandma good!!! Rosetta and her staff are all very gracious and welcoming. The vibe is a very chill and inviting one.
