Taking money without consent is technically stealing, I was shocked. Maybe that's why I saw half the people there paid cash? Anyways, super disappointed with my lunch experience today. Legacy It's Tradition is a new "Jamerican" fusion restaurant in Manchester, CT, opened by Joel and Monique Lawrence on Feb. 20, 2026, at 206 West Center St. The eatery serves authentic Jamaican dishes--such as curry goat, oxtail, and jerk chicken--alongside American favorites like burgers and tenders, emphasizing bold, authentic island spices. It's nice and clean but then again it's all very new. It could use a little more decor. The music is very lively (like club music) in here! There's a lot of activity in here so they're off to a good start! There's two more competitors in Manchester including Anthony's Jamaican (the incumbent, great for takeout) and Long Gut Miss Pinny, which is a rare fine dining experience. For my first item, I'm having a Salad with balsamic vinegar dressing. The salad is basic and the dressing is good. Thev use metal utensils which is a good sign. The dressing cup is nice and chilled. This is a good sized bowl too consisting of iceberg lettuce? Some purple cabbage and a few cherry tomatoes. It is quite good! For my next item, I'm having the (large) Soup. Today, it is chicken. They are playing a Jamaican song I've never heard before. Wow! This serving is huge! This is tasty! It has a slight kick to it too. It's quite hearty made with big chunks of carrots, potatoes and big pieces of [bone-in so be careful] chicken, etc. For my drink, I'm having a Jamaican Choice coconut water. Oh yeah. It's nice and chilled. Be sure to shake it first. This is tasty! Of course, it's packed with a few sugars. For my next item, I'm having a [spicy] beef patty. A Jamaican patty is a savory, flaky pastry filled with spiced meat or vegetables, known for its vibrant yellow crust from turmeric and a rich, flavorful filling, often featuring ground beef seasoned with Scotch bonnet peppers, curry, and other spices. These handheld pies are a popular street food and snack in Jamaica, inspired by Cornish pasties but with a distinct Caribbean twist, and are sometimes served with coco bread. These really speak Jamaican. This is similar to an empanada except it is not fried (they are baked). Oh yeah! This is good! These are really stuffed (more so than most I've ever had. It's nice and hot and spicy too. The meal comes with (or you can add) a side of rice and beans (which are also quite good). They are soft and moist. All of the food is served very quickly too. This is primarily a takeout restaurant so most food is, at least partially, premade. This is a great meal! For my entree, I'm having a [large curry goat] and a side of collard greens. I don't have these very often. Jamaican curry is a flavorful, vibrant dish of chicken, potatoes, carrots, and curry spices, slowly cooked in coconut milk or broth until tender. The dish is unique for its use of allspice (pimento) and Scotch bonnet peppers, which give it a sweet, fruity heat. This is quite good! It is all served in medium sized bowls. Collard greens are large, dark green, leafy vegetables from the cabbage family, known for their hearty texture and mild, slightly bitter flavor that becomes tender when cooked, often with smoked meats in Southern cuisine. They are rich in vitamins A, C, and K, and minerals like calcium and iron, and are a staple in Southern and soul food cooking, typically prepared by simmering or sautéing. To prepare, wash thoroughly, remove tough stems, and chop or ribbon the leaves before cooking. They're bitter (like broccoli rabe) but I like them! These are good! I like the Grace hot pepper sauce at the table. It tastes like Tabasco sauce. For dessert, I'm having a piece of banana cake. I can't remember the last time I had this! Banana bread is a sweet, moist quick bread made from mashed bananas, flour, sugar, and leavening agents like baking soda, often with additions like nuts or chocolate chips, and baked in a loaf pan until a toothpick comes out clean. Key to its flavor and texture are very ripe, spotty bananas, and it's best served warm, toasted, or at room temperature. That is yummy! I like how they pack it. Overall, the service is very good here. There are only about 9-10 tables in here so no reservation is usually necessary. This is, after all, mainly takeout. Definitely a great meal here!

The tacos are soft and didn't have that "perfect" taco shape - I've had Fish Tacos all over the country so I know what I'm talking about. BUT then again the tacos are quite large in comparison to other places I've had them. You get 3 substantial Fish tacos, filled to the brim, so you're not just chewing on an empty tortilla wrapping. The ingredients (lettuce, tomato, fish) are well organized so the thing doesn't fall apart as you're eating it. The plantains were firm and easy to eat; not greasy at all or crispy. The Almond Cake had a nice almond crust and was very good, but the slice was bit thin for a West Indian restaurant. For people who have fallen in love with island food, this is a good place to get that "island cuisine". Again, I liked the fact that when I called, the lady patiently explained what was in everything.
