Located between Powdersville and Greenville, this place has potential. Visited earlier today for the first time to browse and get an idea what they had to offer and came away impressed. They were currently in the middle of one of their monthly Saturday gaming tournaments with 25+ monitors all being used, pizza and plenty of gamers from all over. I have never dealt with such poor service in my life (Yes, I am taking into account cable services). Being a small business owner it is just baffling to me how someone could treat a customer this way regardless of the type of day you're having. This is the response I received after asking how much a used Xbox One would cost via facebook. I saw that they had seen the message almost immediately and the next morning I sent "??" hoping it would remind them to answer. I did ask the question during their off hours but I saw on their page that they usually respond within 1 hour so I thought to myself, great! I can get an answer tonight, hopefully. 1Up Video Games - We prefer customers who csn read what our hours are and who realize this is a business run by people with families and other responsibilities other than responding to your every whim at all hours of the day. Me- Very professional response 1Up Video Games - Get a life. Absolutely horrendous service, very sad and unfortunate. I will not give them a penny of my money and after this message I will not spend another second of my time dealing with this shop or for that matter even thinking about it. This used video game store located in Powdersville (between Greenville and Anderson). This store is actually fairly easy to get to. If you're going here from I-85 south you're going to take exit 40 and turn right, then you turn towards Anderson Rd. (where the Wal-Mart is), once you drive up Anderson Rd. it will be in a little strip mall to your left. I have been here approximately twice. It's pretty okay. The staff are good, they hold quite a bit of tournaments for fighting games, there is a lot of retro video games to pick out and choose from, and the selection is quite good. But the prices for many games are high, like the average money-hungry eBay/Amazon seller. When I came here 1/2/2015, I bought an original black label release of 'Castlevania: Symphony of the Night' on the PlayStation 1 for $44.99... that's average for the online price, but at least I have it. I also picked up the original 1995 "long box" PS1 version of 'Doom' for $19.99 (which I don't think is too bad). I have not tried negotiating or making offers, but in the review below, that apparently isn't possible unfortunately. For those who have some extra change lying around in your pockets, there is an 'X-Men vs. Street Fighter' arcade machine for those who wanna blow up some old-school fighting game competition. It's turned off whenever it isn't being played to save energy, and you'll have to ask the employee to turn on the switch in the back of it. All in all, 1Up Video Games is good if you live close to it, and maybe even if there's a game you want REALLY badly that none of the other stores in the area have, then it's okay. But if you want cheaper prices regardless of the distance, I'd hit the Video Game Cavern in Taylors, or Save Point in Charlotte, NC. read more

1Up Video Games is a used games store located b/w Anderson and Greenville. I've visited 1Up a handful of times since it opened. Overall, I'm really disappointed with the store. Let's talk about the reasons for that in turn. 1. 1Up does not allow bartering. If this was my only qualm with the store, it wouldn't be a big deal (maybe costing one star). But it is a problem. As a merchant dealing in used products, 1Up ought to recognize that the value of their items is a gray area and should be negotiable. For them to be entirely unwilling to consider offers other that what they themselves have listed is ridiculous, and is especially bad when you consider that... 2. 1Up has little transparency in assigning prices to items. I asked the owner what the methodology was in determining price (e.g. online database or percentage of original MSRP). His response was that he knew the market well enough to assign values relying on intuition. That may be true, but a more honest metric would ensure customers aren't swindled. I know the market pretty well myself and one tool I use, in both buying and selling, is a unbiased price guide. Which brings us to a biggie... 3. 1Up is expensive. No game there is absolutely crazy, but nearly all of them are 20-30% more than the average sale. Here's an experiment you can conduct. Go into the store and select ten games at random. Choose any unbiased price guide you like (I like pricecharting.com but there are many alternatives.). Make sure it is fair (i.e. that it is based on completed sales and auctions only, not open listings). See how well 1Up compares. I ran the experiment twice: in each case only one out of ten games was at or below the average price. Here's comes the worst part though. I would happily pay 20-30% more than the average rate on a game for the convenience of being able to pick it up locally if I knew that the items were vetted for quality. But they aren't... 4. 1Up sells damaged and/or poor quality items. This one is the main reason for this review. If a store is not going to allow bartering and it's going to be expensive, surely it would offer only high quality merchandise, right? One of my early purchases was a console. Because the owner does this weird thing where he shrink wraps the hardware, I wasn't able to get a look from every angle, but what I did see was in good shape. The price was high, but I figured that was b/c the console was close to mint. When I got home and removed the shrink, I discovered that the power adapter had been busted open and then re-assembled using electrical tape. I don't know if it was the previous owner or the 1Up owner. I do know that, had the shrink not been there, I would have spotted the defect immediately. It gets worse. The owner shrink wraps loose controllers as well. When he does this, a heat must be applied. How do I know that? Because the analog sticks on many of the controllers I've purchased have been melted. Not to the point of being unusable, but to the point where I, as a collector, don't want them around and I certainly wouldn't invite someone over for a competitive game and then hand them a one of these. "Oh yes, I'm a good sport. Now here's your defective-looking controller!" Another controller I bought, mercifully spared the melting, had a sliced cord, with wiring exposed. Again, this flaw wasn't visible through the shrink wrap. This same controller had been in a smoking house, and absolutely reeked of cigarettes, again conveniently concealed by the shrink. I won't go so far as to accuse the store of actively concealing defects, but they have be aware of some of these flaws. Not fully exposing these items for the customer to inspect is a serious business malpractice, and I hope the store will change its policy. I highly discourage everyone from buying anything the store puts in shrink wrap. You will regret your purchase. Here's my advice. If you can avoid this store - do it. There are a few alternatives in the areas, and the ones I've been to are are more competitively priced and have the customer in mind. If you do decide to give 1Up your business, check and double-check the item you're buying. Bring a phone or tablet to ensure the price is reasonable. Asks lots of question. Keep your receipt. And finally, don't trade for credit. I brought in a large number of games and consoles seeking cash and was convinced to go with the credit. 1 Up Video Games is one of the best...if not the best gaming store around. Located in Greenville, close to Powdersville, the location is great and easy to get to. Parking in great! What I like the most is the owner always helps me when I go there. I am always trying to find a certain game and he goes out of his way to help. I have been to another Video Game store in the Taylors area and they won't even speak or try to help me. The guy behind the counter always looks mad. If your not happy with your job, get another one dude! I was looking for this rare game for a present and 1 Up didn't have it but he took my name and number and when he got it, he called me and held it till I could get there. The store is always clean and very neat.. .not like some in Greenville I have been too. The inventory is great! He updates and changes the games and consoles all the time. The prices are good. Some games I think are priced lower than other stores. One game I wanted was $ 3.25 higher than another store but for the convenience and atmosphere, it was well worth it. (Saved me from driving 25 plus minutes to Taylors and gas money). I have read the other comments about the pricing and I have to disagree. If you want cheap games that you feel you have to barter over....go to the jockey lot. This is an established business and has expenses just like everyone has. I have heard the owner working with a customer when I was in there (which is about 3 to 4 times a month, I love the store). I don't understand why people are so worried about pricing. The prices are fair. What they need to do is open up their own Video game store and pay for rent, power, water, phone, internet, inventory, supplies...should I keep going...you get the drift!!!
