Do not even bother with this so-called Shelter/Rescue. Don't even bother taking time to fill-out the surrender form on her website. Karen has no people skills at all. It must be why she ended her nursing career to work with dogs because they don't have the option to speak up and defend themselves against this tyrant. Her "foster home" is listed on the Resources List for alternative placement for Dogs provided by AZ Animal Welfare League & SPCA. Her "rescue" should be removed from this list that is given to the public. Karen spent more time talking to convince herself that she is absolutely perfect and I'm a horrible pet owner for wanting to foster/surrender our dog because we have a new baby daughter. We have attempted all avenues before making this hard decision that he needs to be happy in a home as an only dog with no young children. When a dog is given several weeks to be trained & adjust with a new family member in the home with no positive changes, our final option was to surrender him. Even after several weeks of trying to find a new home for him through family, friends, and having him listed on adopt a pet. Now, did she even care to listen to our story? After the loss of my 12-year-old Wheaten Terrier and best friend, I was considering getting another dog. I did not want just any dog. I wanted to rescue a dog that I could give a great life. That's when I found 2 Da Rescue ! I found a dog named Newman that was a Warm , loving , happy soul! Unfortunately he was not hypoallergenic so I could not keep him Due to allergies and asthma in the family. So I decided to work with Karen who had been working with him for a year to find him the perfect home! Which we did! This was my first experience with the rescue. I must say Karen has done a fantastic job with Neman. It's because of her tireless efforts, training and love,that Newman has become the well balanced loving pup that he is. Karen continues to save these pups, one at a time. She works tirelessly day and night along with all the other volunteers with this rescue. They really truly care about these dogs and the lives that they will have. They work to socialize them , train them and care for their well-being. I have always rescued dogs and have never had a bad experience until I met Karen Franklin. She lied on veterinary paperwork and when I asked her about it, she began threatening me and making outrageous claims. I had contacted another rescue and the police for help because she was clearly unstable, and she threatened to harm me over the phone which resulted in my filing of charges. Too many innocent animals and people have been caught in her crossfire. As my images show, she's too comfortable lying to and threatening people. **BEWARE** Wish I could give negative stars. Volunteering with this dog rescue was a nightmare I would never want to experience ever again. If she, Karen, owner of 2Darescue, treats people the way she did me, what is she doing with these animals? I was a first time volunteer, and because I wasn't comfortable taking a rectal temperature on a puppy she just berated me & this absolutely but me into shock. She was refusing to pu the puppy by the time I needed to leave, I had to leave the puppy on my front porch in her crate, of course with water. ;( As you can see by other reviews, this is her standard behavior when she doesn't get her way. I feel bad for the dogs in her care. I was told by a previous volunteer that she drugs the dogs to keep them calm. Then she adopts out, for $300. When the dog isn't as described by Karen, & the family wants to return the dog to keep their family, she berates them, & keeps the $300. Then she can re-adopt for another $300. Due you due diligence before using this rescue. She also damaged my property when she came to pick-up this puppy. read more

I emailed a basic question to Karen about transporting an animal. I had been connected to her email thru Petsmart and I know Petsmart sends their dogs to different stores periodically. I personally got one of my current dogs from Pets on Parole, the correctional facility that trains dogs basic skills. Pets on Parole works with PS to home animals. Anyway...asking a question about transporting a puppy sent Karen into a rage. Instead of asking additional question to clarify, she send a nasty email reply. Is Karen a brokenhearted 13 year old? I'd expect a response like this from a kid and not from a grown woman whos supposedly got a big heart for animals. Stepping in all that dog poo must have affected her brain. Normal people don't act this way. Don't look for your next doggie here. They are probably beaten. read more

We have had the best experience with this rescue group. Karen was amazing and very responsive when we saw a dog we were interested in on Petfinder. We went and met the dog, named Jag and we knew he was perfect for us. We adopted him a week ago and I'm so grateful for the entire experience. He is our forever friend. read more

I highly recommend that you DO NOT adopt from Karen and 2darescue. I don't feel she was honest with me about the dog I adopted. He had been returned once (she said) for biting when she insisted it was the owner's fault. I have experience with pit bulls and since this is a pit bull mix, I was taken with him. I have had him for about a month now. He has bitten me three times and is aggressive and attacks me spontaneously while I walk him. I am an older woman, and do not have the physical strength to deal with his aggression. My vet Noe has him on Trazodone to keep him somewhat mellow. When I contacted Karen to return the dog to her shelter, she refused to take him back. She compared getting bitten to childbirth, saying I had to go through the pain in order to reap the rewards. Karen told me to have him euthanized if I can't keep him. Some caring shelter. I warn anyone that deals with her to be very careful. She is dishonest and deceitful. I regret paying her the $350 adoption fee so that she can continue her obscene fraudulent rescue service. read more

I was trying to re-home my dog. I am a minor living with my mom still since im in school. My mom said we no longer can keep our dog since I'm always at school and work and it doesn't have enough time to run around. I spent all week looking for rescues for non kill and anything so my dog would be in good hands because I know he deserves better. This is one of the shelters I contacted. I thought she was being honest and genuine about the circumstances in which she found the dog. She wasn't. Now I know she was just giving me a story to pull on my heart strings and get the dog adopted. At this point I'm pretty sure she had kept the dog locked in a bathroom for who knows how long. The dog has completely turned my house upside down and honestly made me miserable. All she had to do was be honest but clearly that's impossible for her. She was rude and insulting to me so I blocked her phone number. What a mess. These animals deserve more from her and consumers deserve more from her too. I paid $400 for Pandora's box. read more

I'm sharing this post here since the rescuers organization keeps deleting my family's posts from their Facebook page.. We adopted Mallie and it wasn't a match. It's sad, but it happens and I hope she finds a loving home. The rescue that currently has her has spread a lot of lies about my family to make themselves look better and I want to be able to address it somewhere that they can't delete it or block us from their page. The only interaction we had was when my parents first met the dog at the organization and their home base. Next they brought Mallie to my house and we did a meet and greet with my dog. They were at my house for maybe 25 minutes and during that time I asked several questions and voiced some concerns to where I was told one word answers and told "it will be fine." We kept Mallie for three days and well she wasn't a match for us we tried to communicate with the rescue and they refused to respond to texts. It saddens me that the only action they took was to slander our name and picture on their Facebook site because they weren't happy that it didn't work out. When asked they wouldn't provide a copy of the contract and refused a partial refund of the deposit. In looking at their Facebook they had posted a picture of us adopting her and then underneath it went on to say very hurtful and not true statements about their process. I felt it necessary to post this so that people can be wary of this organization and know that if you adopt a pet from and it doesn't work out that they will go out of there way to say it was the adopters fault and nothing on their end. It could have been resolved with an adult conversation but the owner kept hanging up on us when trying to talk to her about it. Please research and know about the adoption agency you are going through so you don't experience the heartache and hurtful words of this place if it happens to not be a match. *as to you can see in the owner's response she blames the clients and it's sad to see her lie here. You should see the scalding text me she sent me about "shame on me". I'll see if I can make that public so people can see how you really speak to clients. read more

If I could I would give 0 stars. Karen doesn't not treat people kindly or with respect. She was very rude and belittled my mother for re-homing her dog to give it a better quality of life. A dog should not be made to suffer in a present situation with kids, if the dog bites. Re-homing a dog to a home where it will not be in the situation to bite is better than sending it to a shelter where it has a high probability of not getting adopted and could possibly be euthanized is far worse. This is such an ethical and truly genuine rescue. They go above and beyond for their animals and it really shows. All they want is to give their dogs a wonderful forever home and they do everything in their power to ensure that. Karen, the owner, is very responsive, thorough and helpful. She has devoted herself to these animals, which is amazing in and of itself. I worked with Karen as a foster mom for a beautifully wonderful dog. Karen hid the history of a dog that was adopted, saying that he did not have separation anxiety. After only a few weeks with the adopters, the vet diagnosed him with severe separation anxiety after breaking out of a kennel and nearly injuring himself. Karen told the adopters that the vet didn't know what he was talking about and that he should be out on "doggie xanax." The owners didn't want to put him on drugs and wanted a good home for the sweet boy so they took him back to Karen in hopes that she could help find him a home that doesn't crate train him or leave him by himself. Karen has now begun ridiculing them on social media stating that he "doesn't have anxiety." The rescue would be great without Karen. It's a wonder what her other 12 dogs go through that she's attempting to take care of. Hopefully she doesn't treat them like she treated the sweet boy with separation anxiety. It's really sad that someone would care more about getting dogs off her hands than finding them the perfect home. read more

Karen treats all her rescues like they are her own babies and goes above and beyond to make the adoption process go smoothly for everyone. My fiance and I adopted a dog from her a year ago. He came from Mexico and had a rough life before coming here. But because of all the work Karen put into him, he is a sweet, amazing dog who fits in perfectly with our family. From the first interaction with owner Karen, she spent 5 out of 7 minutes badmouthing the kennel, the vets, and others, instead of spending time talking about the dog we were interested in meeting. She misrepresented the dog, who she had for almost 2 months, but spent all but one day in the kennel, the one day at her home. She really knew nothing about the dog. She represented dog as medium size but docs from County stated Large. She said dog got along great with other dogs, but after 3 days at our home, she was viciously attacking, unprovoked. We were given no opportunity to foster before adoption to make sure dog was a good fit. No problem. Karen got to pocket the $300 adoption fee. I have no problem donating to a good cause. Problem was this was the WRONG rescue. Rather than accepting the dog back and offering to match us up with a better fit, she just dismissed us. But first, she blamed us for the behavior of the dog that she knew nothing about, saying we didn't understand the dog or know how to train her. She knows nothing about my background, having raised and trained German Shepherds for 33 years and Australian Shepherds for 18 years. Never mind because Karen knows it all. never get your dog through this place; i only barely brushed shoulders with her and she tried to squeeze money out of me for a dog that wasn't even legally hers anymore. i got him secondhand from someone that couldn't take her abuse any longer, and (foolishly, before i realized who she was), i told her that the dog was passed to me. i asked her if there was anything i needed to know or anything i needed from her, in case there was extra paperwork i should have that wasn't handed to me already. she asked from me the following: my name, my phone number, my address, my age, whether i rented or owned my house, my income, pictures of the dog in the house, pictures of every room in the house, A FEE TO TAKE THE DOG (which, i remind you, LEGALLY does not belong to her anymore), and fees to pay for trainers for the dog (which was already very well trained, he's just a hyper doofus, which i didn't mind). with the previous owner, i was told that she would drive by their house, harrass them, and even threatened to call the mesa pd to say they were stealing her dog if they didn't allow her to see him. she's running a scam intended to drain you of your money; she's the "owner," and you're just a babysitter paying her to take care of the dog until she decides you're no longer a good fit. go elsewhere. read more

Frisco was rescued from underneath the foundation of a home, along with his 3 siblings....he was extremely fearful, but thanks to the wonderful volunteers and much love, Frisco came around. We fell in love with him immediately and since we've adopted him, he's flourished into the pup we always knew he would be! Where do I start about this Rescue? I was a foster for Karen because I needed some community service. She was willing to help me out so we made a plan for me to foster 3 puppies. If anyone has had a puppy just imagine 3!!! After the first day I was ready to quit. But I am also dg owner and have 3 of my own dogs. After day 3 I had the 3 month old puppies doggy door trained and no more food aggression. I take pride in making sure the puppies were taken care of like they were my own. For everyone shaming Karen because she's rude, asks to many questions, or just simply a B word. I have something to say to you, unlike most people she cares about where the dogs go. She wants to make sure that the dog is going to have a home that will love him for the rest of there life. Not to make a dollar on or even give away because they can't handle them anymore. These dogs have already gone through hell and she just wants to make sure that it doesn't happen again. As a foster Karen set me up with everything I needed to care for the puppies. I call and say I need food she makes sure I have food. So before you start judging her I want you to put you feet in the paws of the dogs that have been abused, neglected, and beaten. Then you will see why she has such love for the dogs and won't just let Joe from down the street just have a dog without looking into them first. I received this e-mail today from Karen after I returned a dog to her. She also gave me a nice retort on to my first review on her business. Let her comment to me be a warning to anyone adopting from her-she does not play well with others. Here's the email I received: "Nice try on yelp. Funny thing, others reading your review agree with pathetic irresponsible dog owners. Only makes us look even better. Just like not updating his vaccines, rabies. I let the county know so they can fine you. I would say you would be pissed too if you heard him crying pathetically as I took him but you DID hear him and didn't even shed a tear. You are a sociopath. Hope you take care of your children better. Shame on you. Oh, he gets along with ALL of the dogs here, kinda interesting don't you think . I let you take him as a baby, a baby and cant even take proper care of him." Dexter was put on her page within the week, if I took such bad care of him why did he get put up for adoption immediately? When you sign a contract with her it stipulates you must return the dog to them. I did so and was damned for it. And the comment that my dog was crying pathetically when I dropped him off is pure bs-Dex is a friendly, little guy and went into her arms willingly, wagging his tail. read more

Karen and all the volunteers at 2DaRescue are top notch. Having adopted two dogs myself I have seen the care and concern that Karen and everyone involved with the rescue give to these dogs. While some rescues just want to "move" inventory...errr dogs, Karen on the other hand takes time to vet out adopters to ensure that the match up of person/family/living conditions is appropriate for the dog. She always has the best interest of the dog, which as it turns out is also in the best interest of the adopter. Karen also will rescue and nurse back to health in need dogs. Dogs that would have otherwise been euthanized in the county system. She, and the other volunteers will go to extraordinary lengths to restore a dog back to health and help them move on to their forever home. Thanks Karen and all the volunteers at 2DaRescue! My brother tried to give his dog to a better home and was turned away because she is not worried about the dog but instead focused on the dog owner. She stated it was UNBELIEVABLE that my brother was too busy. Sometimes life happens and some people actually have to work real jobs for a living. He was simply trying to find a better home because his job is new and he works 12 hours a day everyday and feels bad of the lack of attention his dog has had and tried to do the right thing and was rudely turned away. Whatever the situation. She runs a shelter and would think no matter the person the animal is what they are there For! Not the case. This lady is a very angry person and does not care about the animals only herself and her belief. She should be shutdown and not able to run a shelter period. Very rude. I would highly recommend not waisting your time with this place. I have a 2 year old dog that I just don't have time for anymore because of a new job so I was wanting to give him up so he good have a good new home, but when I called this place to see if they would take him in the lady was not concerned about taking in my dog, she was more concentrated on being so judge mental towards me and cursing me out over the phone because I was trying to find a better home for my dog that I know he deserves.
