LOH gave me something I badly needed during one of the hardest chapters of my life: peace of mind. Knowing that the love of my life -- my ESA Yorkie, Praise -- was safe, cared for, and loved allowed me to focus on picking up the broken pieces of my life and rebuilding my stability. They went above and beyond for us. LOH and their volunteer foster families honored my request to visit Praise every other weekend and even allowed me to bathe him at their facility because he's so sensitive about being groomed since he is very tiny and has very sensitive skin. Those small acts of kindness made an enormous difference for my and Praise's well-being. When I finally reached a place of stability, I was able to bring Praise home -- bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, full of joy, and with lots of toys and kibble -- and together we moved into our new home to continue our healing journey. I can't wait to give back to LOH and volunteer my time to support others who are facing the same struggles I went through. They've welcomed both me and Praise to volunteer. LOH and their volunteer foster families are truly a lifeline for anyone who has an emotional support animal or beloved pet and needs a safe place for them while they rebuild their life. Extremely rude workers. Myself and my daughter walked in without any greeting or acknowledgement from staff. There were 4 workers around and we didn't hear 1peep out of them while they helped someone else for 27minutes. 23 minutes in another white person came and was given a complete welcome and offered a tour. Meanwhile we been standing there shocked at how they were being.... One worker helping a white patron and 3 others just standing behind the counter laughing and gossiping, eying us every now and then to see our reaction. You know I thought this was just a one time thing when they ignored us at Tempe Cares Day. I was asking about help for my standard poodle who we ended up having to put down. I explained in detail everything she needed help with and why. Both ladies just stared at me then one handed me a piece of paper. Not one word spoken! It's so freakin rude and upsetting when your dog is dying and you just want to help her! I'm convinced it's a color issue. I don't know what else it could be. read more

Sadly, all places in our state are filled due to the crisis in AZ with animals. However, this is a great nonprofit dedicated in its cause. If they can they take in animals that need temporary homes and also have a community pet food pantry. People can get food for free for their animals when the pantry has supplies. read more

I came in knowing I wanted a little black witchy cat and they let me say hello in each of the kitty rooms, the sweetest girl put me in a separate room to hang out with each one I was interested in until I found my perfect match. I fell in love with "Gouda" and I named her Sabrina, she is so perfect and snuggly and is adjusting SO FAST! The adoption process was incredibly fast and easy and I love my little girl so much! My love for her grows every second. The staff here is so very helpful and kind! And the kitties here are cared for greatly, they have these cute little rooms with cat trees, blankies and toys! This is my third update. When I first adopted my baby girl her excrement had a horrendous smell and she never covered it. I had my regular doctor twice but he didn't really help. 3 yrs later She was getting so terribly thin. I took her to blue pearl hospital, Peoria az. They did a full work up diagnosis was possible cancer. Oncologist agreed. I didn't want to put her through chemo. Then 8 months later she coughed up a terrible bloody amount that looked like spaghetti. I panicked and took her back to blue pearl. It was easy to get a feces sample as all she had was consent diarrhea. She was heavily infected with round worms. I talked to oncologist he said she was to far gone to treat the worms. Blue pearl said it was so bad she had to have had them for years longer than the 4 years I had her.she was strictly and in door adored cat. They said she has to have them before I got.her. I was very angry. She was miserable and pain meds weren't doing enough oncologist told blue pearl she should be put to sleep. I cried and kept her for a week then I had home euthanasia. She was a loving cat slept by my side. My last rescue lived to fourteen years and had a brain tumor that was inoperable. If I get over the pain I wouldn't get another cat without a full work up from doctor for everything. It just hurt to much. Lost our home should have checked for worms. I disliked the pet rescue beyond what I could say here. To the administration that left me that remark. You don't check your animals like you should you lied to me about so any things. I don't care if your over crowed all animals and future adoptive parents deserve a healthy animal or truth about what is wrong so they could decided. read more

I have both adopted and fostered for this organization and I can say wholeheartedly that these people care about pets AND people. I saw a joyful reunion of a Temporary Care client and their beloved dog and it brought so much peace to my heart to know there is an organization such as this in our community who help keep families and their pets together. We got a dog on a Sunday. She's a 20 pound poodle. She was described as a 12 pound Maltese online and on her paperwork. They said she's dog neutral, she isn't she's domineering and very aggressive on a leash so take their assessment with a grain of salt. Great loving dog to people. Just keep an open mind when you go down as I think they're describing their dogs thru rose colored glasses. Good hours and super friendly staff. read more

I stopped by to donate two cans of wet dog food. This is no slight against anyone, for it is a reputable non-profit with passionate people. These are just things to consider. 1. First impression of the lobby was that it was a bit cluttered. Their botique took up a majority of the space, and it did not look organized nor did it look appealing. 2. There was limited staff that were not in communication with each other. I stated my business about 3-4 different times before I got my tax receipt and was on my way. 3. I could see how the staff was flustered. That's normal for places of businesses. I would have rather waited for them to re-center themselves and communicate as a team and work as a team rather than be scattered. I did notice, though, newly renovated back area. The dog/cat enclosures were spotless and the volunteers had good energy and enthusiasm for animal husbandry. Their dog and cat acquainting rooms were pretty and all the animals look healthy, alert, and happy. The home theme around the kennels were absolutely adorable and I did notice and admire their to do lists and spreadsheets for volunteers. It also warmed my heart to hear about the temporary housing program to allow those owners to stabalize themselves financially and health wise. God forbid I have to apply for that, but that was thee sweetest thing I've seen an animal rescue do. I've made my decision to adopt from here and nowhere else. Note to staff: I'd like to know when either a Beagle or Dachshund come in because I will be there stat to initiate the adoption process. I'm open to all life stages, but prefer a younger/adult dog. Nevertheless, thank you for having me LOH and I wish this non-profit many years of continued success and many adoptions. read more

Such a hardworking staff who give every ounce of love to the pets they care for at their facility. We foster through them and have a positive experience every time. These superheroes give everything and more to help as many people and pets as possible. They could always use more fosters and pet food donations because of the massive need in our community. After losing my 16 yr old chihuahua, we can to Lost Our Home Shelter to donate all of her belongings to go to another beautiful home. In the process, there was a puppy Party going on. I didn't want to stay because I thought it was to soon after "Belle's" loss. When this cutie named "Cruise" came walking up to me, as I was sitting cross crossed on the floor, looked up at me and put his paw on my lap! Greatest Moment ever. I've adopted a couple pets from here and have volunteered here before. I think that the environment for both cats and dogs is fine, I've had no trouble with volunteer communication so I'm not sure about the troubles others have been having. There is a volunteer link on their main website which will direct you to their volunteer portal and it is pretty easy to figure out from there. The reason this rating is more in the middle is because I have had in-person experiences of rude staff both when I was adopting and volunteering. Older staff members have grand superiority complexes, younger staff has always been pretty nice and helpful with getting the adoption process through and telling you about the animals. Overall, good experience but I won't be volunteering here again in the future. read more

Such a great experience with my newest fur baby, Nemo (was Waffles). I orginally met another kitten and came back to get him. He was gone but Joni took the time with me to see if another baby would work out. They had orange kittens. I have always wanted an orange cat! The foster parent was even there for info. This was all at Petsmart. They gave me tips about introductions to my other cat and two dogs. I noticed he had watery poo :( gave it a little time. They reached out to check on us. This was awesome, my last dog was adopted elsewhere about a year ago and never a check in! I informed of our poo issues. Michelle was awesome. Gave tips, still not working...so got me in for a fecal test. When it came back negative she got me meds, probiotics, and advice with food. Our little guy is already doing better. He's so sweet and happy with his fur brother and sisters (we have 2 dogs, 2 cats now). He plays fetch better than the dogs! While he is mommy's boy he is sweet to the whole family. Would HIGHLY recommend them when you are looking for a new pet. Their animals and living areas are maintained, clean, and they were well groomed. LOH gives these animals a second chance and life, and helps them find a good fit home for life. LOH are knowledgeable about each and every animal's individual personality and dynamics! Was amazed at how much they knew about the personalities of the animals we were looking to adopt. The LostOurHome.org reps Joni and Marcie were AMAZING at getting the "right fit" for a kitten for our home, we have 2 adult cats ages 17 and 15. We thought getting one kitten for transition was the right thing to do. LOH reps were NOT "selling us a cat," yet were truly looking out for the best welfare of their animals matching with life long owners, and at the same time not making our current animals be crazy with high energy kittens, which is CRUCIAL! We ended up taking home 2 kittens which LOH felt would be able to play together and adapt to each other well. Cannot say ENOUGH, THANKS for all the questions on your adoption form, and for helping these two find a great home in our household. Appreciate Joni's honesty and AMAZING how quickly the two have adapted in our home. Important before getting a new pet you realize pets are a lifetime commitment, and LOH's questionnaire for the adoption process does exactly that! Unlike some of the other shelters I have been to, they have a lot of unique programs such as a food bank and pet boarding for "harsh conditions" like hospitalization or domination violence. They seemed like a great option for my puppy while I move to a new home however when they called I was told my chihuahua puppy would have to be neutered. No where in the application did it say that so I was took by surprised and I said I would need a little bit to think about it and the lady immediately caught an attitude and cut me off in the middle my sentence. I asked why I had to neuter him and she simply said "hell be healthier". She hung up on my face 5 seconds later. I wouldn't trust them with my dog. Hopefully the rest of the staff isn't as mal-mannered. A simple explanation and 5 minutes of thinking time would have been great ( it said in the email I had 48 hours to decide once they reached out- I didn't even get 5 minutes. ) read more

Although we adopted from them once before and had a pleasant experience and are so thankful for our baby Sasha, walked in just now and are disappointed in the way we were treated almost immediately. The older brunette woman at the front made an abrupt assumption that we were not a good fit for a pup that has been in this shelter for quite sometime based off of her 1 and only question... "what is your work schedule?" Before allowing us to give an exact amount of time, said it wouldn't be fair to the pup to be locked in the house alone all day (her assumption) and didn't feel we should even see him. I'm awfully sorry that she feels the need to judge without hearing more than 3 words from us. Best of luck to that cutie puppy and unfortunate for that facility to have such a judge mental person greeting at the front. read more

This shelter is wonderful. They take great care of the pets they take in and make sure they are evaluated for temperament and health before being put up for adoption. They also offer a pet food bank, foster care and other services. I have been a volunteer there and help with fundraising efforts when I can. read more

I'm sure LOH does a great job within their niche. However my experience is from fostering for them. I have fostered dogs and cats for over 8 years and this has definitely been my least appreciated experience. Their foster support is limited to automatic generated emails and surveys answered by generic suggestions. Scheduled visits for care were not combined to limit the number of required visits, as such I had to make 3 trips in a week. While the scheduled visits told me the time to arrive, it did not mention that I needed to check in at a different door than the main door....thankfully a volunteer happened by me and directed me after waiting 15 minutes. Finally my offer to have the pet groomed was met with "we cannot allow that without owner permission " rather than taking the next step "but let me check to see if I can contact them to get permission ". All in all I will not be fostering for them again read more

Staff was all around the worst experience I have ever seen. So rude. So unclear with instructions. Seemed like they didn't want to give up their dogs. We just lost our 13 year old beagle and I was visiting to find my family a dog. I found the sweetest, most amazing dog. I asked about adopting her and they said I would need to bring in all the members of the household and my nephews that come over to visit my house occasionally. I asked if it were possible to put the dog on hold and they declined, so I came in with everyone right at opening the next day, only to find out that I needed to introduce my dog to her as well, again I can't put a hold or deposit down. Now the dog we were looking at adopting, was perfect with the kids. I warned them that the dog we already own takes a while to warm up to dogs so he won't react well and will probably be terrified and they told me "we don't really care so much about his (my dog) reaction as much as her's (the dog I was interested in)" so we drove an hour back home picked up my dog and drove back to do the meet and greet. They took my dog away from me and took him into the back to meet each other. Not even two minutes later they come out and say that my dog was very scared and hid in between the volunteers legs and showed his teeth... however the dog I was interested in DID PERFECT. Which is what they said all they were looking for right? Wrong, they rejected me and my family and said they don't feel comfortable giving us the dog. I reassured them that my dog has been around HUGE energetic dogs before, even raised with a 70 lb golden retriever and did fine (with some adjustment period). I fought for the dog and asked them if I could go back with my dog. They said no. I have worked as a veterinary technician for two years and explained working with animals and seeing their behaviors, I know that when you take a dog away from their owner into a room full of noisy dogs and then into the back to meet a strange dog (and my dog is also a rescue) it is very stressful and terrifying. And I warned them of that. They said it was policy and declined everything I said. I also know, being trained by experienced doctors and receptionist, I know customer service. None of these people were good at their job at the desk. Too many were volunteers who couldn't take criticism, and also didn't know anything, but still thought they knew more than me. Ridiculous. That dog was so sweet, and we would have given her the best home. She had come all the way from a shelter in Page. I am a person who believes rescuing dogs in need is better than buying breeder dogs. But rescuing dogs should not be so frustrating, difficult, and stressful. I hope that dog finds a great home if they allow her to ever leave the shelter. read more
