Dan is our technician and he's super nice. The people who answer the phone have the worst customer service skills I've ever experienced. In Spring of 2020 our every 2 months got out of whack because of the Covid-19 shutdown. In April we just had the outside sprayed and didn't want anyone inside the house so they did the inside portion in May. In June we were scheduled again and I had to call and explain that it was just serviced in May, blah, blah, blah. We needed service in early July and not June. They wanted to come again August 1st and I had to explain again they were here in early July and it hadn't been 8 weeks and we need it September 1st. No that's not OK you'll be violating your contract. The best I can do for you is August 31st. OK fine with me that's close enough. I can't be the only person who this has happened to because of the pandemic. Don't treat me like a leper. I am, in fact, spending money with you. Fast forward to the first week of September. We made a household decision that we didn't need our house sprayed every two months and we would be fine with every three months. We called the office and were met with more attitude. No we can't do that. So let me get this straight? I want to pay you to spray my house 4 times a year and you are going to tell me no, you can't do that because we are going from 6 times a year to 4 times a year? Yes, that's correct. These folks are exterminators. They kill everything. They use lethal poisons and traps. I just…read morecalled them about a skunk under my shed. They refused to say that they would kill it once they trap it. So I did some research. I called Wildlife rescue in St louis. They gave free advice... skunks are gentle little animals. They are just hoping to survive. (We shouldn't remove wild animals from our property, because the destructive teenagers will move in and do more damage). I removed my outdoor cat food and the skunk moved on. Rottler also uses poisons for mice. They say they use 'safer' chemicals, but anything that kills is a poison. When those sick mice are eaten by owls, fox and predators, those animals slowly die too. If you are trying to kill the Earth, keep using Rottler. Google Humane pest control to find better options.

I had squirrels in my attic during spring, when mama squirrels are nesting and giving birth. There is no shortage of squirrels in my neighborhood in south city but even so I couldn't bring myself to hire people who would kill them. Garry and his folks thoroughly explained the squirrel mindset and nesting habits, waited until babies were old enough to leave the attic, and blocked all the entries except one with a "one way door" for the squirrels to leave and not return. (What's worse than killing adult squirrels? Starving the babies whose mom couldn't get back in to feed them and having them rot in your attic.) Once the temporary camera confirmed no more squirrel activity the workers came back and blocked off that entry too. I feel better that all the possible entryways for critters are now solidly blocked with critter-proof metal that blends neatly with the fascia on the house.

When the technician arrived, I showed him the holes, runways, and plant damage, but he focused on moles and told me he did not think I had voles. I repeatedly explained that voles were the reason I had called. He ultimately told me the treatment he was providing would "take care of both moles AND voles," so I agreed to proceed. This was assured to me numerous times. Afterward, the paperwork described a "Mole Yard Treatment," stated that no vole activity was observed, and showed that the service was a target mole treatment plus a granular animal repellent. I had already tried repellents myself; I hired a pest-control company because I wanted the actual vole problem treated. A repellent is not equivalent to infestation treatment. The apparent lack of knowledge about voles and the inability to properly identify the problem I had specifically hired them to address was concerning to me. Given that pest identification is such a basic part of effective treatment, that significantly undermined my confidence in the service. When I contacted the company about the mismatch, I expected them to apologize for the confusion and perform the service I was originally told I was paying for. Instead, they defended what had been done and tried to manipulate the situation, refusing any accountability. At different points they relied on the fact that the granular product could deter voles, while also explaining that their targeted vole protocol had not been performed because the technician said he did not identify active vole holes. That was exactly the problem: I had hired them for voles, repeatedly told the technician about the voles during the visit, and was assured the treatment would address them. The issue eventually resulted in a credit-card dispute that was resolved in my favor. The company still maintains that I owe the balance and continues sending automated invoices even after I asked them in writing to stop.
