Be it home, auto, earthquake, umbrella coverage, health, I have always preferred using the expertise of an independent (as opposed to captive) insurance agent. I've had my share of agents over years in the different venues I've lived in. Most of them have been fine. While shopping for health coverage for my recent college graduate kid and my not yet Medicare covered wife was not so easy, not a lot of agents want to handle individual health coverage. I happened into the Hayek Insurance Agency and all I can say is wow! Dealing with Roger Hayek was nothing short of outstanding. We were about to choose a plan on the Covered CA website, which as it turns out would have resulted in higher out of pocket expenses for us. Mr. Hayek took his time, did his research, ran the numbers, called back when he said he would, and had the exact information we needed tailored to our specific situation with an eye toward future possibilities. He was also able to explain in detail, without getting into the weeds, the reasons behind his approach. He saved us money on our Covered California policy in the long run, and provided us some great financial information on HSAs as well As long as Mr. Hayek is in the insurance business, we shall be his client for any and all of our insurance needs.

They do not have access to any information from insurance we have been with them 20 years and because my salary changed so did my assisted coverage from the gov't. They blamed covered cal than i had a 3 way phone call and they blamed my actions with medi-cal(which i did what they asked) I have been paying for private insurance with 0 federal assistance which increased its rate by 300% almost 700 a month at 30 years old for 4 months(technically 3 because somehow magically i got my insurance card(again pictured below with email proof from hayek themselves but not the actual insurance.) As stated we have been on auto pay for 20 years and because of their negligence they messaged me 17 days into january to make the payment(even tho the policy was already cancelled and i was told by her higher up that she shouldve handled the occurence with blue shield instead of emailing me) i lost my policy number with my free 999 refills costing me over $299,700 based on my new co payment in the picture(s) below. This should be a crime and they should be fined/pay a restitution or closed for negligence.

I called Hadley to file a claim and then managed the cleanup and repair of the damages. Three weeks and $12K after the incident, the adjuster called to say that the claim had been denied. He told me that my agent had sold me a "sham" Basic policy that covers volcano damages and a list of other things, but not broken pipes. When I confronted Hadley, she told me that "I should have known" what I was purchasing, but an email that she sent me says she had found the best policy for me. She never even gave me the pricing or opportunity to purchase a better policy. My new agent found me a great policy that does cover broken pipes for $500 less per year. I would NEVER recommend H. Linwood Insurance Services and/or Hadley Wood to anyone.

It turns out that a different Mass Mutual representative, Lewis, took over our account from a different representative. When I complained to Mass Mutual in Chicago, the representative told me, "That's what happens when a different representative takes over an account, they don't put the time or effort into it, because they are not the originator of the account." Really? Mass Mutual would allow that? My advice would be to purchase insurance from a different company. One that holds their representatives accountable for all clients.
