As someone who has traveled to many highly touted spas throughout Texas, I can now claim that I live just 2 hours away from the best of them all! After a recommendation from a very good friend, I visited 209 yesterday, following a visit to my daughter's home in McKinney. I was so overwhelmed by my experience that I decided to submit a review, and it takes a lot to impress me!. I experienced an incredible deep cleansing facial/massage that was the best in my 56 years. 209 stands out, in my thinking, as offering a mindful presence for anyone seeking a calming, thoughtful and knowledgeable understanding of living in their own skin. My visit gave that incessant "mind-chatter" a chance to settle in the background while I rested in peaceful harmony with the beautiful simplicity and stillness of this meticulous spa. The staff was friendly, sincere and, ultimately, quite professional: they offered to store my purchases from nearby boutiques and the wonderful bookstore down the street; remembered my name, interests and earlier questions; didn't pressure me to purchase (but,of course, I did!); and made me feel that I "mattered," from the time I entered the door to my reluctant farewell. I expected it to be pricey and it wasn't at all, in fact, 209 is a true gift of time to your soul to slow down from the inside out so that you may continue to be present for all those other needs throughout the rest of your week. I recently visited McKinney badly in need of a haircut. I did some internet research and had already included 209 Downtown Salon & Spa on my "short list" of salons to check out once I got to the city, initially because of it's location. I visited 209 and felt immediately comfortable enough to scrap visits to the other 2 salons on my list. I made an appointment with Bethany (I hope I'm getting that right!) for the next day. I could not be any more pleased with the cut and style that she gave me. I had been growing my hair out for more than a year, even though I'd never had long hair before. Needless to say, it was a mess when I walked in. Bethany listened to what I thought I was looking for, discussed her recommendations with me, and gave me the MOST FABULOUS cut and style I've had in ?? years! In addition, she took the time to make sure I understood what to do with my hair once I got home, and my hair has looked great ever since! She was easy to talk to, very professional in everything she did, and even made a great restaurant recommendation! I even had a fantastic evening with my new hairstyle at the recommended restaurant. I cannot say enough good things about this salon and Alicia in particular. I have always had a love/hate relationship with my unruly hair and when it started falling out due to anemia in my late thirties, I went to her in desperation to try and make it look as normal as she could. She took her times assessing my hair and gave me a cut that not only looked wonderful, but hid the thinness of my hair. I have always wanted blonde hair and mentioned it to her in passing one day. I told her that I have always been told that by having naturally dark hair, being a blonde was not a possibility. Alicia told me it was. To further complicate matters, I was using black - over the counter- box dye on my tresses for years, and still, she said I could achieve the results I was seeking. It was a long process, the transformation from Black to blonde, but she did it. In the end, the result was more than I could ever have expected. She made my little girl blonde dreams come true. But not only that, Alicia is so friendly and nice that it makes the time spent with her a pleasure. I will never, and I mean never, go to anyone else. Okayy...so I called this spa (among many others) to ask about bridal services for my wedding this summer. It turns out they are a newer spa & salon in Mckinney, but from the very first person I talked to about scheduling services to my bridal party I held here- I can only say what a great experience I had - all the way! They were very professional and even assigned me a wedding coordinator who was my point of contact (and always available - even when I had my bridezilla moments!). My services were all scheduled through e-mail (how nice, a salon that actually understands I have to operate my life through my blackberry!) and I they even got my party travelling from out of town to e-mail ideas for their hair to the salon ahead of time so they could match the right stylist to my bridesmaids - it was great! On the day I got married I was a jittery mess but they were so calm, welcoming (LOVED the welcome note at the front desk when we arrived!) and my hair and make up never looked so beautiful! I feel as if I haven't married my husband - I married the stylist! I can't recommend them enough and will continue to use them for my hiar cuts and color. Thanks 209! you made my day :-) read more

I love Emilie! Her salon is beautiful, clean, and the energy at 209 is amazing. My stylist, Emilie, is up to date on her styles and cuts. She knows what is in and what will also look good on me but also for my type of hair. I love her knowledge about the products. She never pushes products on me to buy. I love how she tells me good products I need and that are worth the money, but she isn't the pushy sales person or trying to sell products I don't need which is refreshing. My job forced me to move away from Emilie to Salt Lake City. I have tried to find another competent stylist in SLC, but I have had no such luck. I have had horrible cuts, colors, and late stylist. I now make the flight to McKinney to have her do my hair because I don't trust anyone else. She had to do a color correction and it turned out so beautiful after she was done. I don't mind spending the money to fly to 209 because it's worth every penny for great hair. My husband even noticed the difference and healthiness of my hair when Emilie does it. If you want great hair, take it from me 209 is the salon to go to in McKinney. read more

I am so grateful to a friend who suggested that I go to Sarah at 209 Downtown Salon for a haircut while I was visiting in McKinney. What a marvelous experience!! My hair is very curly and white - each of which equals unruly! I was unable to control it - much less style it. Sarah was engaging - delightfully friendly, professional to the core, and amazingly gifted with shears - a true stylist in every sense of the word! Enough time has elapsed since Sarah cut and styled my hair that I have found that my hair has grown in such a way that I can still "deal" with it - for the first time in my life!! :-) . A real winner!! I am not a girl who gets a lot of facials. The time, the money, the pain... If you've had a facial, you understand how torturous it can be sometimes. Not at 209 Downtown Spa. Lainie is AMAZING. She took the time to address my specific skin needs, and when I left my skin was as soft and as smooth as a baby's bottom. Like all facials, I did have some minor red spots after my numerous extractions (not a regular facial-receiver here, remember?) but they had cleared up by the afternoon. Another thing that I appreciated about 209 is that they don't push their products on you- although Lainie was very helpful with her recommendations and I felt I could easily buy any product if I wanted to. It took me YEARS after moving from CA to TX to find a new salon and hairdresser that I love! Not only were they funny and welcoming, but they make you feel comfortable, offered me a mimosa, and just kept a very friendly atmosphere. My stylist took his time with my color, advised me on hair care, gave me an amazing scalp massage and hair rinse, and again took his time trimming and styling my hair. I'm always nervous trying someone new because I've been left orange, blue and even soaking wet at places like Toni & Guy. But Salon 209 was fantastic, exceeded my expectations and most importantly, treated me like a person, made me comfortable and gave me a great new look! I've been to many salons and this one when it was in downtown McKinney and I can't express how beyond thrilled I am to be back. I have one of the most talented, creative, competent, awe-inspiring hair dresser, Luis! He is amazing, his coloring skills are amazing and he is a perfectionist with both color and cut. He has been able to achieve a hair color that I have wanted for years and NOBODY but Luis made it happen. If you want your hair to look unbelievable gorgeous and stunning, make an appointment with Luis. Also, everyone in that Salon is awesome. They all make you feel special, they remember your name and make you feel very much appreciated. Kudos to Richard and Emily for reopening such an amazing Salon. I had always had the pin-straight, no body hair blues, until I visited with Bethany. I don't know how she did it, but she cut my hair in such a way that I was able to have lift and volume with my medium/long hair!! She has the savvy and skill to cut and style with perfect angles and layering to give my hair life!! She even highlighted and lowlighted my hair to give it perfect depth! I am so impressed with Bethany's talent that now my husband goes to her faithfully! I am extremely elated by this because he has been a product of unfortunate barber-shop, $10 hair cuts since I met him 15 years ago. I have to wholeheartedly agree with the glowing review of 209 Salon. I went after a hectic day at work, and felt immediately at peace when I was greeted in the reception area with a cool glass of water. My eyebrow wax was perfection, and nearly painless, and my hair stylist worked magic. I'm telling you, my hair was a mess when I walked in. Now it's smooth, manageable, and she took time after to walk through the products with me and talk about what would be best for my usual style. No hurry, no pushiness to buy the products, just helpful advice. Overall a calming, ego-boosting, fantastic experience...I felt more glamorous than I ever have when I left that salon. read more

I live in Frisco but several of my best buds highly recommended this place. Soooooo happy that I listened. This is a fabulous spa for an indulgent little get away. The reception area is packed with interesting items you can buy, but you won't stay there for long. The friendly staff will take you away to the inviting changing room and then you will relax in the relaxation room. The relaxation room is secluded and beautiful with comfy chairs and chaise loungers. There is a nice assortment of refreshments. I had a facial and it was one of the best facials I've ever received. The technician was just incredible. She made helpful suggestions without pushing the products. The entire staff is friendly and fun. I highly recommend this spa! read more

I went to 209 Downtown Salon for the first time after hearing several recommendations and I?m so glad I did. My stylist, Bethany, was completely understanding of what I wanted (I went from long hair to a super short cut), and even offered suggestions that I happily accepted. She was very friendly and made me feel really comfortable even though I walked into the salon pretty nervous about the cut. I?ve never been so immediately pleased with a haircut, I walked out beaming, and almost a week later I?m still really excited about my hair. Mary Le is good as it comes. She is a former Aveda and she has been cutting/coloring my hair for the past 3 years since I've arrived in Dallas. Mary is one of kind, she is super knowledgeable without coming across standoffish, she will advise you on what best works for you without impose and when she is working on you, she is focused in doing the best with your hair, and not juts chit-chat. She won't ever, ever, rush. I always feel that I am getting a deal to have someone of her caliber working on my hair. She has just joined the 209 Salon and yesterday I drove 22 miles to get to her she is THAT good. read more

I've gone to this salon 4 times with only 1 time receiving the haircut I asked for. The first 3 times were with Savannah (no longer works there). I always say I want chest length hair with face framing layers. She cut my hair way too short twice and made it A-line. After over a year I decided to just go back to this salon and had Emily cut my hair. I asked for chest length with face framing layers. My hair is nearly to my shoulders with choppy layers. This place is far too expensive to be getting terrible haircuts. I am not coming back to this salon. read more

I REALLY love this spa! I have been to more or less every spa in North Dallas since moving here 2 years ago. I will never go anywhere else after finding this place. BEST FACIALS EVER. EVER. Michael Meireles is an amazing stylist. Not only is he fun and hilarious, but he actually listens to my needs/concerns. He never gives me something that he knows won't work for me or that I can't handle on my own and he always helps me understand why. Michael uses the best products and gives excellent recommendations that keep me looking my best between visits. I won't let anyone else touch my hair which is why I drive 250 miles to see him! I am new to the area and found this salon on Google, I was more than impressed. You are treated with first class service, they are professional, fun, and do the most amazing job on your hair. Jeffery is the first person in my entire life I showed a picture to and got exactly what I wanted, not just close to but identical to what I asked for.
