We confirmed that my appointment would be 10AM. I then came in 15 mins early and was coldly greeted at the desk when I checked in. I took a seat and waited for my name to be called. I waited 15 mins past my scheduled appointment, and during my this time the stylist assigned to me took a client that walked in after me. She was notified that I was waiting twice. She never once came to speak to me to let me know how much longer to wait. I got up to speak to someone at the desk to cancel, but no one was working the desk. I walked out. I tried to then call the front desk and was placed on hold for 5 minutes. Clearly, this establishment has issues with friendliness and with double booking. I shouldn't run into this much trouble for a simple haircut. I won't come back.

When I clarified that I would get a cut with someone else and she said that was fine I said that it seems like there's no issue anymore, but then she proceeds to add that perhaps with my negative attitude I shouldn't come at all...like what? My husband who was in the room was appalled at how a MANAGER was speaking to me, let alone after the issue was resolved. The results are not worth the abuse this place shells out if you request any accomodations.

It was way too blonde and then in an effort to correct, she took it too far in the other direction then Mimi got involved to lift some lighter pieces which then became brassy. I was there more than 4 hours and kept my cool even though I was there starving with a dying phone and my poor 10 year old waiting for me through this. Mimi was trying to help which I appreciated but when blowing my hair out, started her rant with "no disrespect but..." then proceeded to twist everything on me essentially blaming me for my hair. I came with many many many pictures. She even told me I couldn't get the color I wanted because I had longer hair in the other pictures where I liked my hair in the past? What?? Her assistant came over to discuss another client she had where she rudely told the girl the client would have to wait and deal with it. Then proceeded to lecture me and try to make me feel like a complete moron. I walked up to the receptionist literally in anticipation that they would do something to offset this horrific experience. Either a discount, a product, an IM SORRY you had a bad experience?!! Instead, Mimi comes over and essentially mocks me like a moron again reiterating that I had the services I booked even though I wasted half of my day and was leaving with BRASSY roots. So I paid $260 to hate my hair. I will pay $400 for expert hair when it's EXPERT hair. they did NOT deliver whatsoever and I left literally in tears not only because of the hair but more for being treated like a piece of garbage. All of this in front of my child...and she told me that they were taking about me and laughing at me while she was waiting for me by reception. I do not know where this woman gets off talking to people like this. She is in a customer service role and has no idea the reach one person can have. My reach will be heard by many because this is unacceptable.

Unfortunately, she hacked away at my hair and created awkward and very short layers all over my head. Now it is impossible for me to wear my hair in a ponytail or a twist because of these layers--some are as short as two inches. And I showed her pictures of what I wanted which just had a face frame layer. Now that my hair is shorter it is frizzy and curly which only makes it even shorter. I actually want to cry when I look in the mirror now. And the kicker to all of this, when I go to pay, this awful haircut (no color) cost me $80!!! For a No frills salon next to a deli in Ho-Ho-Kus. Very disappointing and it will take months to grow out the damage.

I don't write a lot of reviews on Yelp, but I am hoping this one might help out someone else in dire straits. In June, I went to another salon for highlights and it turned into a disaster: uneven color, bleached look, and very damaged. Seriously, my hair was like hay and breaking every time I put a comb through it. Arielle was recommended by a friend, so I went in for a cut to try to deal with some of the damage. I can't say it was a good job because it was very uneven but, in fairness, my hair was not the norm. A week or so later I called the salon to discuss how uneven my hair was and they asked me to come in that day. I spoke to John and he was very eager to make things right. I should point out that Arielle had moved to another salon, but they still wanted to make me happy. I assumed I would stop in, someone would even out the bottom of my hair and that would be that. Instead, John took the time to give the full treatment: wash, cut, blow dry and he did an excellent job. Somehow he managed to remove a lot of the damaged hair and give my hair a really nice shape. They did not charge me anything and I had to insist on giving John a tip for his time. A few weeks later I went back to John to correct the color and went from a striped, bleached mess to the most amazing natural highlights. My hair is suddenly so soft again, you would never know what a disaster in was for most of the summer. Really, if you are in distress, I urge you to go in and meet with the stylists at 21 Godwin. I love this place. I was going through some PTSD after having my very long hair cut off. April took her time with me to find a style that worked with my face and my lifestyle. She kept it conservative and let me go home with it for a few days. I came back after the weekend because I just wanted it a bit shorter. John stepped in on the spot (I did not have an appointment) and took amazing care of me. Even though I was going through an adjustment after not cutting my hair for 5 years, this crew made me feel at home, and helped me adjust to my new style. It is easy, beautiful, and flattering. I am getting rave reviews everywhere I go. I have been looking for many years for a salon that I can be comfortable in, and I believe I finally found it. Aside from the incredible care and concern for my happiness with the work, I also truly appreciated the personal touch and attention to detail given to the salon itself. April is an artist through and through, and it is a pleasure to spend an afternoon in a funky and inviting space while being treated like the most important person in the room. I have been coming to this salon for almost 2 yrs! First off, the energy in the salon is hip and with a bohemian flare. The owner April makes you feel comfortable the minute you walk in. All the clients are down to earth and I actually look forward to getting my hair done to just chill . Jackie is my colorist . She is unbelievable with color ! I have curly hair and I find my color never has dimension and always looks dull. Not with Jackie. She suggested I change my color to a darker shade. I was resistant at first, so she slowly worked on me until I finally said yes. Then she added just a few highlights in the front and it is exactly what I have wanted! In addition to hair, she is certified Mud Master makeup artist. She did my makeup for a family shoot and I felt gorgeous. I came to 21 Godwin for a blow out and curls for a wedding I was attending. I appreciated that April was able to see me last minute. The space is very comfortable with a fun bohemian/rustic vibe. The first thing you notice is April's collection of powdered minerals/natural supplements that she uses to make her own masks and products. April was friendly and gave me some hair tips - she also gave me a great blowout (better than anything I could have done at home) and it lasted through a very windy afternoon and well into the night. Very nice looking place. Great service and it was my first time here, Jon is a talented stylist. The owner was there and she was very nice too. I had a complicated list of requests and they were all met and I sensed no judgements or attitude which made me feel at ease. I will definitely come back for my mens haircut. To top it off, it's very reasonable for a hair salon in the fancy Ridgewood neighb! I've been looking around to replace my unbearable former usual stylist so if you're looking for a new place to try out, I recommend this joint. This was my first visit to 21 Godwin for a color correction. April did a single process, highlights and low lights and it came out perfect!!! I have short hair and it's really hard to find someone who knows how to get the complex cut right - to create the texture and style that doesn't require laborious styling with a hairdryer. RUDE. This salon was recommended to me by two friends who found them on Groupon. I purchased the…read moredeal for a cut, color, and style. A few days after purchasing it, I needed a last-minute blowout for an event and couldn't get in with my usual salon. I called Salon JM and tried to make an appointment to use the voucher the following day. They couldn't accommodate me for the cut and color portion, but only had time for a blowout. I asked if making this appointment would prevent me from using the Groupon at a later date (since the fine print said it was for new customers). I was told it was fine, since I had purchased the Groupon as a new customer, and I was going for a different service. I reconfirmed this in person when I went for the blowout. Imagine my surprise when I called back a couple weeks later to make an appointment for the deal and was told they would not honor it. Again, I explained that I WAS a new customer when the deal was purchased, and the only reason I had gone for just a blowout before redeeming the deal was because I couldn't get an appointment for the whole thing. They weren't even open to using the amount of the voucher towards the full price of the service - I would have been fine with that! Instead, I was told to deal with Groupon, and then they hung up on me. They didn't even ask if I wanted to proceed without the deal! It's a shame because they did a nice job with the blowout, but I would absolutely not go back here. Clearly they aren't interested in the business. There are enough salons in this area - I don't need to deal with one that's rude and sketchy.

I feel it's a hit or miss and again for almost $400 I just think everyone should be able to get consistently what they ask for.

I was greeted nicely and did not have to wait long for Taylor to blowdry my hair. First, Carina washed my hair and that was nice. I did take some water infused with oranges to quench my thirst. Taylor got to work on my hair and I had described that I wanted beach waves. The only thing baffling was that she asked me if I requested hot tools to use- they didn't ask me (which they should have). Anyway, she was able to use a brush and a curling iron and give me some beach waves to hold my hair. It did come out very nicely (I did get a lot of compliments at the wedding). The salon is very upscale and has a beautiful make up bar as well. So my friend did steer me in the correct direction (there are different price points just so you know depending on the type of stylist you get to do your hair). A good experience for sure.

Krista was awesome though and the teenager who washed my hair with clarifying shampoo. Although the results of my haircut were different than the picture I showed her - this is not LA - it came out okay.
