Looooove Haru!!! I started coming here after a not so good experience at a different "high-end" salon in Ho-Ho-Kus. I asked for subtle balayage there, got bright blonde highlights, and was not offered or given a refund. The owner at the other salon fixed it, but the result lasted for about 2-3 weeks... and I was left with bright blonde highlights again. A few friend recommended Haru to me. I was given an appointment with Hadley. Immediately, I LOVED her! Hadley is friendly, warm, and completely understanding about hair. As someone who is self-admittedly fussy, Hadley listened to me and made sure she understood exactly what I wanted. Since then, I've been to Hadley MANY times and she's brought me from balayage to my natural brunette, cuts from shoulder length to halfway down my back, and dealt with my particularness about my bangs. Hadley is super talented and has a wonderful, bubbly personality. I love talking to everyone at the front desk as well, and really enjoy my time there! Additionally, I brought my boyfriend to Haru for a men's cut. He was styled by Sylvie, and she was also WONDERFUL! Best haircut he's ever had :) Next up I want to try the facials! read more

Came here to write about my experience with Mimi the manager and see that other people have had similar experiences. I was told that because my cut and color was scheduled in the incorrect order I would not be able to see my stylist for both services for my appointment 2 days later. When I expressed disappointment in this as I booked it weeks ago and timed it for an event, Mimi proceeded to tell me that 1. I assumed risk booking online and 2. I booked my appointment too late and I probably have roots that require more time anyways and 3. That I could simply get a cut with someone else but I refused (not even true)-essentially gaslighting me as if this was my fault and not theirs. When I clarified that I would get a cut with someone else and she said that was fine I said that it seems like there's no issue anymore, but then she proceeds to add that perhaps with my negative attitude I shouldn't come at all...like what? My husband who was in the room was appalled at how a MANAGER was speaking to me, let alone after the issue was resolved. The results are not worth the abuse this place shells out if you request any accomodations. read more

Ok I never post reviews but seriously I have to after my experience today. I have never ever ever everrrrrr been spoken to the way I have been spoken to by Mimi. My color was botched and I could even accept that and not post this but how I was treated by this woman was literally horrific. She spoke to me like I was the lowest piece of garbage... I booked a hair cut + color with stephanie (a more junior stylist) and the color unfortunately went in the wrong direction. It was way too blonde and then in an effort to correct, she took it too far in the other direction then Mimi got involved to lift some lighter pieces which then became brassy. I was there more than 4 hours and kept my cool even though I was there starving with a dying phone and my poor 10 year old waiting for me through this. Mimi was trying to help which I appreciated but when blowing my hair out, started her rant with "no disrespect but..." then proceeded to twist everything on me essentially blaming me for my hair. I came with many many many pictures. She even told me I couldn't get the color I wanted because I had longer hair in the other pictures where I liked my hair in the past? What?? Her assistant came over to discuss another client she had where she rudely told the girl the client would have to wait and deal with it. Then proceeded to lecture me and try to make me feel like a complete moron. I walked up to the receptionist literally in anticipation that they would do something to offset this horrific experience. Either a discount, a product, an IM SORRY you had a bad experience?!! Instead, Mimi comes over and essentially mocks me like a moron again reiterating that I had the services I booked even though I wasted half of my day and was leaving with BRASSY roots. So I paid $260 to hate my hair. I will pay $400 for expert hair when it's EXPERT hair. they did NOT deliver whatsoever and I left literally in tears not only because of the hair but more for being treated like a piece of garbage. All of this in front of my child...and she told me that they were taking about me and laughing at me while she was waiting for me by reception. I do not know where this woman gets off talking to people like this. She is in a customer service role and has no idea the reach one person can have. Let me start by saying I was really excited for my appointment at Haru. I love the hairstylist I've had for the last 10 years, but she is located in Long Island so it is quite a drive. I saw the pictures of past work on Haru Salons website and instagram so I thought I'd have a great result. I made an appointment to re-do my blonde highlights (my roots were growing out), get a cut, and blow dry. I arrived to my Thursday afternoon appointment 9 min late (after calling and giving them a heads up and an apology), and had to wait 10 min for my stylist. She was warm and welcoming and I showed her the two photos I had (one of her work, one of another stylist at Haru). She said that the photos of the highlights I showed her were achievable with my hair. After 3 hours of foils, processing, and rinsing, I then waited to get my hair shampooed. There was no shampoo girl available, and my stylist was busy curling another clients hair after blowing it out so I waited. I finally got my shampoo, cut, and dry. The stylist said that she usually puts in some curls to finish styling but right now she doesn't have time. I said ok no problem I'm just glad I got my color and cut since I'm going away for the weekend. I thought it was odd that she didn't offer me a mirror to show me the back of my head, but I assumed she was just in a rush to move to the next client. She walked me to the counter so I could pay/check out and asked if she could take some pictures of my hair. I said sure. After she took several photos, she thanked me and went to walk away but I said wait can I see? When I saw the picture of the back of my head I was so disappointed. I didn't know what to say. I told her that I felt like a jerk complaining after she spent 4 hours on my hair, but it just wasn't what I wanted or like the photo I showed her. She lightened the ends of my hair where I already had highlights, and my roots were still dark! Apart from two strips of highlight that go up to my roots, the rest of my roots look like they haven't been highlighted for months!! She said she could fix it by putting some more highlights on top and I said ok yes! But then she clarified that she didn't mean right now and I would have to make an appointment and come back. (Mind you I already mentioned I was going on vacation that weekend). The receptionist said I can come back for their 10am opening the next day (Friday) and I agreed. I also left my number and asked that their owner Peter call me. The next morning, my dog was acting very lethargic so at 9:30am I called Haru and told the receptionist that Im on my way to the vet with my dog and can't come at 10am. I asked if they had any other times later that day. I was told no there is no other time available. You would think that since I'm not satisfied they would try to be slightly accommodating. But no. So now I have the same roots I initially walked into Haru Salon with, lighter ends, and spent 4 hours of my time and double the price I would have paid in Long Island. I STILL haven't heard from the owner of Haru Salon. I'm going on vacation tomorrow so that's another several days that I won't be able to get it fixed. Next time I'll make the drive out East. Update: One week later and still no phone call from the owner. read more

Jackie at Haru has been the bet stylist to ever touch my hair. I am picky and always nervous and very critical about how my hair will come out. I have never been able to find a colorist that does my hair the exact color of the picture that I show her! Sometimes you just need to stop traveling into Manhattan to get a cut. My search is over!! I love all things hair and Haru Salon's Min did an incredible job. He asked me how I usually style my hair, what I'm looking for and some key issues I find daily. With pictures in tow he was able to create a style full of life compared to my heavy thick hair I had before. He's very detail oriented and it truly shows. Thank you Min! The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are wonderful. I'll be back for a color soon~ maybe even a facial :P -- Mini update after going to Min several times over the past 8 months. I was not going to write a review of my experience because I just thought.. let it go. I changed my mind today. My hair is still breaking off, I have hair all over the back of my shirt and pants when I come home from work. Hair breaking off in clumps after my shower. I have been washing my hair once a week for the past 7 months because I am terrified it will all break off. I am still suffering from what MIN did to my hair. I'd like to keep a long story short. I have been getting highlights in my hair for years. Moved to NJ and wanted to try a salon that uses Olaplex because I wanted to go platinum. I showed Min exactly what I wanted in the consultation and he said, no problem. See top right in pic I uploaded. This is what I asked for. I took this directly from Min's IG page so I figured he knew how to achieve this and that was the reason I chose him to be my stylist. Went in for my appointment and he was putting foils in the most random places. I didn't say anything. After they dried my hair, I pulled my hair to side and showed him that it clearly looked like crap. He apologized, made excuses and asked me to please come back so he can make it right. I went back. He put more foils in and ran bleach through my ends. Hair still looked orange. The pictures attached are after my second session with Min. I told him again I was not happy, he apologized again and I went back a THIRD time to fix the uneven orange. For the third appointment, he put bleach on my whole head and sat me under the light. My hair was STILL orange and half fried. I understand everyone's hair is different, but if you saw the blonde wasn't taking after the second time, why bleach it a third? That to me is just utter inexperience. I don't care what these reviews say - you practically burned my hair off. That means to me that you have absolutely no clue what you are doing with blonde hair. Could it have been the Olaplex? Maybe. But as a professional he should have seen the orange wasn't lifting after the 2nd session, again I ask, why bleach it a 3rd time? I would like to note that there was no hesitation at all when I asked for my $365 refund. 7 months later and my hair still hasn't stopped breaking off. This is the first time in my life I have been through this after years and years of highlights. I have lost sleep over this because it will take years to grow my hair back healthy the way it was. Do you know what it's like running your fingers through your hair and it breaks off in pieces? Afraid to wash it or put it in a hair tie? Very nice salon and polite staff. I had to wait 3 weeks for a mandatory 'consultation' with Min. I explained to him that my 52nd birthday was coming up in a few weeks and I wanted a makeover of style and color. During our meeting, I expressed having recently lost 3 close friends to cancer, and the reason for me wanting to splurge on a quality stylist. Three weeks after that, (and long after my birthday), I went in for a color and cut by Min. I had requested Bayalage color effects for my hair. There was pre-existing, faded, light brown color in my hair. Min then explained he was going to paint subtle highlights in to my hair that would blend with the pre-existing color. My layers would be 'blended' in with the rest of my hair as we grow it out for a fresher look at our next appointment. Let's just say the cut and color were so subtle not one person I knew was able to tell I had had a cut and color! So much for a $400 makeover....Oh, and the girl who called to confirm my appointment quoted me $95 each for cut and color, so $180 before tax and tip. The bill I was presented with was for $330 including an Oleplex treatment I agreed to which was suggested by Min. Later internet searches on the treatment revealed that I had over paid for the treatment by like $20, so I was again disappointed. Being a fair minded person, I returned for another appointment with Min, where he was supposed to (in my mind) provide a cut we had discussed since our first meeting over 2 months ago. This time, I was excited that I might walk out with some sort of updated stylish look. Not only did Min not recall our earlier conversations, but again, I left with a slight trim and a complementary packet of Oribe split-end treatments to hold me over to our next appointment. I've decided to return to my favorite salon for over 20 years. Christie & Co. Salon in Bayside, Queens. I guess I will resign myself to crossing two bridges and driving over an hour for a quality (and well priced) cut. Disappointing overall. read more

I would give this salon zero stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here. I went to the salon for a hair extension consultation. The stylist was rude showing my hair to multiple women who worked in the salon. She instructed me to take my extension out and to book a color consult with her after my extensions were out and we would install ASAP. On the way to getting my extensions taken out, I called the salon to schedule my color consult. The owner Mimi gets on the phone and first says the hair she needs for me isn't in stock, then she tells me that the hair stylist isnt comfortable working on hair. So, which is it? I tell her I'm 10 minutes away from the salon to get my extensions with no plan now. I was very upset and Mimi said that a consultation is just a suggestion and that they're not liable for a thing. Beautiful salon. Have only gone to Taylor who does a pretty good job with cut end color although I have been considering switching for the past year since her prices were increased. She just is not good enough to warrant the nearly $300 price tag. Customer service is beyond terrible- requested for Taylor to wear a mask or face shield because I have a family member who is immuno compromised due to cancer treatment and she refused even knowing the situation. It's been a while since I've had one of those terrible haircuts where I have to resort to wearing my hair in a hat or a ponytail for a few months. But now I'm back to doing that. I was really disappointed with my haircut with Peter. Random strands/chunks of hair jutting out in all different directions. I went in this past Saturday and had my haircut by Peter. He spent a very long time cutting my (very difficult to cut) hair. He was my third attempt to get my hair fixed in a month. Although my hair looked great after he cut it, I gave him a very hard time because I felt he took too much off and that it would be a disaster when I tried to do it. I left kind of miserable which was very apparent to him. PETER - I want you to know that I take back everything I said and I apologize for my miserable attitude when I left. When I got home both my husband and mom said it looked great and when I did it myself the next day I realized that he gave me such a great cut that I'm actually able to do myself. When you have a great cut, you can do it yourself effortlessly. I apologize and I hope you'll take me back because I plan on returning! read more

I'll start my review by saying that I am very, very fussy when it comes to my hair. I want what I want, and typically I don't get it. My experience with JACKIE at Haru in Ho-Ho-Kus was happily very different. First, the salon is really lovely. Modern, low-key, large enough so that you don't feel you're on top of other clients. Jackie was really wonderful. She took her time with our color consultation-- looked at the many pictures I brought with me, gave me the pros and cons, etc. We decided on a "reverse" balyage to tone down my very blond, very brassy color. While she was working she was friendly but focused, which I really appreciated because I'm always nervous that when a stylist if overly chatty they are not paying attention to what they're doing. The color results are great! The balyage got my base back to my natural color and she left just enough highlights around my face and scattered throughout to give me the natural look I have been after and unable to achieve until now. Jackie also cut my hair and did exactly what I showed her I wanted. I was really happy when I walked out of the salon and would definitely go back to see Jackie again. The best part was that this morning when I styled my hair myself for the first time since Saturday, it turned out pretty well! I always feel that's the test-- making sure what the expert has done works for you at home-- and it did! Thank you, Jackie! 12/10/16- I wanted to update this review because I just saw Jackie for the second time. I always think that's the real test and I'm happy to say that I was even happier the second time around! Jackie (Jacqui?) gave me gorgeous color, a fantastic haircut and the best blowout I've ever had. I couldn't be happier with what Jacqui has done to my hair. She has transformed my hair completely! I had a terrible cut and color previously, blonde coming through strands, uneven layers, and a terrible style totally. I have never been 100% satisfied with my hair until I met Jacqui!! I rarely ever write reviews, but I felt I really had to for this salon! First off I just want to say I have been to my fair share of "luxury" salons around Bergen county and I have NEVER accoutered such a warm, friendly, and welcoming staff. Every person who works there is so nice! It is such a breath of fresh air to feel welcomed and not feel a snobby or stuffy vibe which almost every high end salon ive been to has! I also have to say that the decor is gorgeous and they carry a wide range of really unique and amazing products. Now on to the best part -the haircut- I requested Hadley because I saw her work on instagram and felt she had the perfect style I was looking for! I had a bad haircut from a previous salon and she honestly made my hair look a million x better. Not only did she know exactly what to do to fix it but she is prb one of the most knowledgeable hair stylists Ive ever been to. I also really appreciated the way she recommended products to me that would help my hair. but she was so genuine and not pushy at all! In Fact I had to ask her after the haircut which product I should buy that day. Usually, my experience is after a haircut the stylist will go to the counter and pick out a ton of products for you and I always feel very forced and obligated to buy. Not with this salon or stylist! I ended buying the leave in conditioner she used on me bc I wanted to and bc she actually took the time to explain how it would help my hair type! I know this is a very long review but I am just so happy to have found this salon and feel like it truly is a one of a kind experience in Bergen County! Jen for facials and Michelle for mani/pedi -- the best duo in Bergen County!! Jen's facials are gentle (as can be...! I always go to her with extremely congested skin and her extractions are effective but not excruciating) and effective. My skin is left so clean and soft without any irritation from her products. Also, she never pushes buying a specific product or line but is always able to make excellent product suggestions. Michelle is just as excellent for nails, traditional polish or gel. Again, never a hard sell or selling up on services or pressure to book regularly. I also had a great experience with Haru's hair services this past weekend. I needed an immediate wash/blow dry and they were able to accommodate me without an appointment. Patty gives an amazing head massage during the shampoo and Kelly did a non-rushed blow out and style. read more

A wonderful experience! The express Pedicure I had by Grace did more for my feet than any 1hr or 2hr pedicure any where else. My feet not only look great but feel good! The facial done by a very pleasant Korean woman who knows her craft was also beneficial to my skin and I plan on going back every 3 months because of the results I saw in just 1 day. My hair is straight, long and fine in texture but still full...she did a great job placing layers and long side bangs. Salon is trendy and stylish. This is so so so late but I went to Haru for my junior prom in early May and it was amazing!! I asked for an updo (please see attached pictures) and I was at first so afraid that I wouldn't be able to find a stylist who could do Asian hair... But Kelly came and saved the day!! I brought a photo and she did exactly what I asked for and I couldn't be happier! The service was outstanding, everyone was so friendly, and I was in love with my hair! Simple and elegant :) keep in mind that the photos were after 5+ hours of dancing, so it held up so well. I have had so many mediocre salon experiences, I could write a book. Some of them are my fault because I didn't do my research or I wasn't clear on what I wanted. I went to Haru today and the experience was fantastic!! The salon is crisp and clean and lovely and there weren't multiple people that my stylist was working on at the same time. All stylists were totally focused on their individual client and there was no chaos. It was relaxing but I had to hang on to my iPhone because I was supposed to be working from home today. The shampoo woman was fabulous!! Nice head rub while she shampooed and then applied glaze. Very thorough and didn't yank on my head once. Min, my stylist was nothing short of a magician! He asked me about what I liked and didn't like about my previous highlights and was not insulted when I asked to go a little more natural/believable with the color. He also asked about my current cut. Likes, dislikes, what I was thinking, etc. After the color, he cut my hair while it was mostly dry. I was so happy he did that because my hair absorbs a TON of water and is very different when dry vs. wet. I had to rush him on the cut (sorry Min!) because I had to jump on a call with a customer (they have WiFi!) but he managed to take my hair from ugh to unbelievable in just a couple of hours. Steer clear of this salon my highlights are orange & yellow. Matt who posts pictures online of his work very falsified and photos modified. I should of none when I walked into salon saw receptions hair color orange burnt roots. I was saying to myself horrific color. Also salon chairs were empty. The most disappointing thing was they charged me $500 I'm disgusted felt needed to express so nobody else gets ripped off by this salon. If they want to rebuke this reviews I have a lot of pictures of my orange yellow streaks. It's so ironic Matt never showed me the back of my hair with a mirror. I love this place!! Min gave me a great haircut, long layers around the face, just enough to lighten up my thick hair. He also recommended Jenn for blowouts, who was AMAZING! Sometimes, when I get blowouts, my hair feels a bit tangly afterwards, or there is too much product in it. Ambience and interior decoration is nice But service was mediocre. Front desk staff is not so friendly. Got a cut from Min who literally spent less than 10 minutes to layer and trim my hair and charged me $95 to look the same as I did when I walked in. Also, got color done heard he was known for coloring but will not be returning after he totally streaked my hair as if I did it at home myself. I asked for their top stylist. Peter gave me a good cut so I discussed my hair color goal with him. He seemed confident so I scheduled an appointment. The price was exorbitant and he didn't listen to my request. The toner washed out after one shampoo so I returned a week later, he put in another toner and it washed out again. I asked why he didn't give me what I wanted and his response was vague and clearly he could care less. More interested in selling over priced Oribe products. I should have insisted on a refund.
