Decent bookstore that sells new and used books. They also sell other items like toys, dvds, games, etc. The store was pretty organized with a decent selection. I got several baby books. Probably about 7 books to be exact. Prices were decent and I was able to find a 10% coupon. The girl at checkout was less than thrilled to check me out. I had my baby with me so I thought it was odd that she didn't offer me a bag to put my books in. She just slid them over to me. Plus, before I paid she asked me something if I wanted to pay for coffee or donate coffee without actually explaining what she meant. I did decline that. Don't expect to make a quick trip here. This place is something so much more. Take your time, explore, and find something you probably didn't expect to look for in the first place. The service here was great. My kids had so much fun playing the Nintendo set up and looking at everything for sale. This place felt like a giant nerd Ebay store that I couldn't get enough of. I've been to their Athens GA location multiple times in the past, and was in this one yesterday and man, did it miss the mark. I'm giving it three stars instead of two so it doesn't seem like I'm being petty, but I went in hoping to get a couple of used CDs and their entire CD section was completely disorganized. I must have pawed through them for half an hour before giving up and leaving with nothing. This location otherwise has all the other things you expect from 2nd and Charles, from records to books to video games and movies, but the disaster area that are the CDs really rubbed me the wrong way. And yes I know it's 2022, I'm saving money for a house instead of having a modern streaming device installed in my truck lol. read more

Following our neighborhood yard sale we still had boxes of DVDs that didn't end up selling. We took these to 2nd & Charles to trade in one box at a time. Today was Father's Day so we stopped by 2nd & Charles after eating lunch as a family to bring the last two boxes of DVDs. When we walked in we transferred the DVDs to the white bins and turned them in, we were given an estimate of 45 minutes for them to look through the DVDs. We had the kids in tow, and the 45 minutes turned out to be an hour and half. Normally, the wait is what it is, but with two teenagers and a pre-teen in the car for an hour and a half... I'm sure it was just busy today, my wife says it normally only takes them about 30 minutes to check out a box and let you know. If you have books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, Records, etc. this is a great place to get some money and help your items find a new home. read more

EDIT (8/22/2014): I had high hopes for this place coming to Greenville. I read other reviews of other 2nd & Charles locations and I was excited. It's known for selling used books, movies, records, CDs, and even retro video games. Sounds good, doesn't it? Not the greatest used media store I have been to. A thing I hate is that I hear employees get to "price games at their own descretion". The prices are often average or slightly higher than what you can buy them for online. I saw a copy of 'Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories' on the PS1 for $28. You kidding me? I got the game at the same Now I've realized $50 for a complete copy of 'Super Smash Bros. Melee' on the GameCube is actually normal (if you saw an old photo I just removed :P). I don't know about the actual books and movies, but as far as video game collecting goes, save your money and if you can drive up several miles, go to the Video Game Cavern in Taylors, or even Mr. K's down the road. read more

Stopped in here after I heard thru word of mouth about a place that sells old school games and systems. Game Cavern on Wade Hampton had a nice little shop but it was limited in their product. To my surprise when I got got to 2nd and Charles their Library of games was extensive. You could find some used games and systems as old as Atari. But they also sell some new games for Xbox one/Ps4 and anything in between. But let's not forget they sell many used books, movies(dvd and Blu-Ray), CDs, guitars, and comics! You can really spend a whole day here jus pursuing thru their collection. The pricing is a bit inconsistent and albeit a little confusing at first. Some of them will have the pricing on it still from when they were sold at another store. Have to make sure you carefully look at the 2nd and Charles price at the bottom. A bit misleading but it could just be me:) Great alternative to sell your stuff for cash or store credit. I don't know about the customer service being poor as it was said in some other reviews. But all the people here have been so friendly and helpful. All and all still a fun place to checkout. Just don't expect the best prices in town :/ read more

My girls wanted to use their hard earned money to buy a couple of used books. We have been to Mr K's but decided to give this place a shot. This place has it all! Not only do they have new and used books, but they have board games, toys, figurines, comics, and just about any other entertainment type item. The book selection was very large. Plenty of kids books and more than enough adult books. Very well organized and properly shelved according to authors last name. Prices are a little high for used books, hence the 4 star rating. Came here last night with a buddy and checked it out for the first time. They have a HUGE selection of books, movies, vinyls, wall art, video games, collectibles and so much more. From mainstream shows and movies to the more obscure and nerdy, 2nd & Charles has something for every fan and enthusiast. The prices beat anywhere I've seen and the selection is seemingly endless. It took them over one hour to evaluate 10 books, then they only offered us $7 (we trade books a lot, and they weren't bad books). The store was way too hot, so it was uncomfortable to be in. The check out process was exceedingly slow too. The person in front of us got to the counter and said "I forgot to get a few items". The cashier went to get the items and make the rest of the line wait rather than setting that sale aside and serve the rest of us while the customer continued shopping. This used to be my favorite bookstore, but it has been on a steady decline for the past couple of years. A number of the books they carry now can either be ordered off Amazon or picked up at Barnes and Noble in BRAND NEW condition for less than what they charge. Many areas are a disorganized mess and their customer service is deplorable. I bought a game from there a few weeks ago and trusted the cashier to let me know if there were any bad scratches on the disc; got home and the disc actually had a chip in it. I brushed that off. Went in today and was going to pick up a couple of DVDs and asked to see the discs after the cashier "inspected" them only to see that the discs had HUGE scratches all over them. I confronted her and she offered to buff them out.... For an extra $5. Save your time and money. read more

Overall this is a great place to come check out. They are very reasonably priced on books and DVD D's as well as CDs. If you decide you want to take something and sell it back you will be disappointed on the buyback amount. If you bought something for five dollars - they may offer you a quarter in store credit for it back! The help themselves are always very friendly read more

This is my first review, so I apologize if it's not "up to par" with other reviewers. I have shopped at 2nd and Charles several time now, and I find it to be an awesome store to find deals on the things I like. I am really into classic games at the moment and they always have a huge variety of ps2 games. Aside from that, they have a ton of old comics that are great if you're looking to build your collection. They always have deals such as buy one get one free on books or movies and if that isn't enough, they have a bin of free stuff outside of their store which if you're lucky has some interesting books and CD''s at random. The prices range from really cheap to questionably expensive. O a couple of occasions, they will have three copies of the same game but priced different. I once bought a game from there and picked the cheapest priced one and assumed that it was perhaps cheaper because it was missing the instruction book but that wasn't the case as everything was included. Another time, they had a book on sale in the store, but the same book was outside in the free bin section. Why they did this, is beyond me. Still, this store has something for everyone and even though some things are a bit pricey, it's worth checking out at least once if you're in the area. read more

They take in way too many damaged movies and cds and the ones that aren't damaged they damage themselves by putting tape all over them. Even cardboard dvd box sets get taped shut and the second you open them, the box is ruined. How stupid can you get? read more

They have a big selection of all kinds of books, but have of the time you spend trying to find a book. They are not in any order that I can tell. Sometimes you can find an author with most of their books but then you'll find the same books in a different genre. Also some books have good prices but not always. Mr K's have lower prices. By like 2$ usually. If you're thinking about trading in for credit at 2nd, you won't get much. They offered me 6$ in credit for a whole bag full of books and DVDs, I took them to Mr. K's down the street and I got 34$ for what they could take. I'm not saying 2nd and Charles is not a good place to shop for books I'm just saying it's not my number 1 anymore. read more

I really like this bookstore. It's clean, well-organized, and all prices are clearly marked. Bonus points for good signage. I was surprised by how big it is; the selection is very good (I looked at books only). I saw both older and new titles. I've found several things I was honestly surprised to find in Greenville. They have the expected used bookstore stuff: series books (mystery, romance, etc.), former bestsellers, that sort of thing. My track record for finding more indie-type books has been good, though, and not all used bookstores succeed there. I came here because it was close to Mr. K's Bookstore, and I wasn't quite ready to go home. I've been to a few 2nd and Charles before, one in Augusta, one in Atlanta (Kennesaw, specifically), and now one in Greenville. And it seems like each one I go to gets worse. The one in Augusta I rated 4 stars. While the pricing was a little more expensive than I'm used to, I found some graphic novels I've been searching for a while, at half price of the original. Kennesaw's was a three star experience where the only thing I got were a few free books in the bargain bin (they were vintage dinosaur illustrated books--pretty sweet!), so I can safely say that this is a "Meh... I've experienced better" bordering on the "A-Okay" side. Since this one fell beneath both of those experiences, I'll rate it as a 2.5 experience, which I guess I will generously kick up to 3 stars because I got a good deal on a Pop vinyl figure. While this place has tons and tons of books, it seems to favor quantity over quality. The managers aren't the types of people who read, it seems, and they just go out and purchase every book they can get their hands on. I was here for over an hour and I browsed the entire general fiction section and I found ONE book in the entire store that interested me. ONE! They sell both new and used books here, with a focus on High Schoolers' required reading. It's a hollowed-out bookstore that has absolutely no charm, no quaintness, and (the most important thing in a bookstore) no soul. There's also no consistency with pricing (as almost every single reviewer mentioned), but not only is this the case for records, it's also the case for some books. If you are looking at records, go somewhere else! They have a decent selection, but the prices are laughable. Largely up to whoever is pricing that day, you're likely to find three of the exact same records... for three entirely different prices. Yes, I saw that while I was there. You can also get new records here for about a 10-20% markup of other record stores. Even Urban Outfitters has cheaper records. PROS: They had a lot of Pop Funko vinyl toys while I was there--Ender's Game, Game of Thrones, X-Men, TMNT, etc. most were about $10, which means some were cheaper than you could find at other places, and some were more expensive. Just do a bit of comparison shopping. Selection of records, books, movies, and games. But it's more of a quantity over quality thing, though. Near to Mr. K's Bookstore. CONS: Things are just not in a logical order. Records aren't in their proper place, sometimes books were placed with an author's first name, the Pop Funko vinyl toys were scattered throughout the store and not together. If you want to laugh, check out the record prices. You're likely to find multiple prices for the exact same record, and you can't expect any kind of pricing consistency there, either. The staff doesn't know what kind of products they sell! I heard someone ask if they had any Doctor Who stuff and the staff member said "No, all of it was bought up at Christmas." I passed an ENTIRE table dedicated to Doctor Who on my way out of the store. Slow service. There were two registers open, and the line was about 12-15 people in front of me and about 5 behind me. It's a soulless corporation akin to Walmart. Even Barnes 'N Nobles had a soul (or maybe the coffee smell made me think that... Well, at least Barnes had a huge selection of books.) THE VERDICT: While essentially every business is here to make money, at least at some of the smaller bookstores, you get a friendly staff, large selection of books, and the knowledge that you're giving a new home to an old book. They've scrubbed out all the dust, charm, and quality of a small bookstore and replaced it with their shining, plasticized model. But by all means, come here if you're looking to browse something popular or crappy (they had a lot of Harry Potter and a lot of Twilight), just don't expect the staff to care about you. At least they had a nice selection of Pop Funko vinyl's (albeit, scattered throughout the store and not together). If you want to find a bunch of books, you're better off at Mr. K's. read more

Was excited to find this place on vacation. Was disappointed that I received very little credit, but what I was more underwhelmed by was pricing. Yes, there were a ton of $1 comics, and they had some comics that were quite collectible, but the "nicer" books were graded without much concern for condition. Took at least 20 high value comics, some 360 main titles, and vintage collectible toys and was only offered 13$ spent more on gas just to get there. I really like the concept of a place with movies/music/books all into one. Sadly, stores like these are dying, but it is refreshing to see a "new" place like this. I had never heard of this company before and came back to visit the Upstate. I came right when they opened on a Saturday and the people who worked their were really helpful and nice. They helped look up a book for me. I found two books for $5 each! They were both used, but looked practically brand new. I would have to admit as a collector of movies, some of the used movies that I saw were a little higher than other places were I can get the same movie. This is a really cool store and we actually decided to check it out on a long Saturday trek. It reminds me of a mixture of a Media Play (remember those?) and a comic book store. There are lots of used books and video game systems but also lots of new stuff. The selection is very, very random. They had a great comic selection (and actually have clearance and sale prices on graphic novels, something far too actual bookstores and comic shops ever do) and some pretty unique collectibles. The kids section was awesome and my daughter walked away with some books. They were having a Jurassic Park day so a very nice staff member (everyone working seemed super nice and helpful) worked with her to make a dinosaur mask and a Jurassic World security badge. It seems like they have lots of fun kids activities, too. Prices were reasonable, the selection was good, and it felt like a very comfortable place to shop. read more

Me and my wife go here once a week, the store is really nice and the staff are all nice. They have a pretty large collection and always new stuff coming in but always seem to be missing console controllers for ps2 or 360. The prices can be high sometimes but never so high that you change your kind, gameboys can be as low as $25 or $30, and pokemon games are about $30 each too, but that's some of their most expensive games. I recommend any fellow nerd/geek to atleast check the place out. read more
