This store feels like the over abundant closet space shared by a teenaged boy and girl. Just an incoherent clutter of music, movies, books and toys overused by second hand parties looking to dispose their unwanted trash -- which is basically what the entire store stands for. Although I've been in this store to make a couple purchases in their over-eclectic (disorganized) movie selection, my most recent visits have been less than mediocre. My biggest issue is with the store's overall process of selling/trading old personal items. I brought in a huge chunk of my movies that I wanted to get rid of (and possibly trade in for cash). When I arrived at least an hour before closing, their little Buyback counter (in which handles all transactions of selling/trading old personal items) was closed due to how long it would take to "process" checking in all my movies I turned in. Instead of processing all the movies I turned in in a more efficient like an average pawn shop or any other book store that deal buying/trading personal items, the store entreated me to submit to a DMV-style method -- in which I had to fill out forms of my personal information and receive a ticket with a number on it until I was officially called. But given the fact that the Buyback counter was already closed prior to the store's official closing time, I was informed to come back tomorrow at a more "appropriate time" until my ticket was called. This was a ridiculous request from the employee behind the Buyback counter, due to her poor and stern customer service skills in addition to the fact that the Town Center is only a 30 to 45 minute commute from my house (and this location is the only one of close proximity). Reluctantly, I had to return thanks to the DMV-style method calling back my ticket number. Upon my return, the same employee from the night before informed that I had yet again to fill out another form confirming my transaction. In my eyes, it seemed pretty unnecessary to fill out another form to confirm my personal information with my signature and thumb print on the bottom. But none of the employees were compliant enough to instruct me with proper directions. By the time I was finished, the employee informed me that half the movies I turned in wouldn't be accepted due to overstock and that any additional excess of movies I didn't want would be thrown into the "Free Bin". My two options for the other half of movies that didn't get thrown out ultimately narrowed down to accepting $5 in cash or $12 in store credit. Already peeved by my overall experience with the store, I had undoubtedly to choose the $12 in store credit -- in which I had purchase two Adam Sandler movies that were well in that price range. After my recent experience with this store, I was left with an awkward feeling of emptiness upon my decision doing business with this store. If anything, it's best to just support a small independent business that's more sophisticated and efficient in their practices like Chamblin's Bookmine. I don't really care so much to return to any 2nd & Charles store any time in the far future. Their entire franchise is just so bland. read more

What a huge store. I honestly thought it was just another bookstore until I checked Yelp. Then I made a special trip with most of my family in tow to come check it out. You could literally spend a ton of time here. I was drawn to everything.... so you have to pace yourself and kinda make a mental note of how you are going to navigate. There is so much. You can find newer and older books. All sorts of cute things and things you haven't seen in a while. Very cool. You may want to have your phone handy to snap pics, in case you're a little forgetful like I am or want to check competitive prices. I like to take pics of stuff I may think is a good gift for someone and things like that. You can also bring your items in to be priced as well. The guy at the counter said it may take a little time depending on the amount of things you bring in as well as busier times of day. The also have sales, so check their website before heading out. We spend a decent amount of time, but we didn't go through everything intensely as we just came to check it out. We will certainly return, for sure. read more

The wonder of 2nd & Charles is its more than a book store of new and gently used books. Based upon my research, 2nd & Charles have a passion for reading, writing, listening, playing and watching which has helped them take the idea of recycling to a whole new level. Instead of finding new ways to use books, movies, music and games, they came up with a great idea of just helping people we use them. It seems that that way more people can find something they'll enjoy for less. They're inventory changes every day and you'll always find something different at second and Charles. The things that they buy are: books, comics, CDs and vinyl, DVDs and Blu-ray, games and toys, collectibles, musical instruments, video games, game systems and accessories, electronics, smart devices and readers, and more. Their buyback process takes into consideration condition and age of products and the ability to resell the items to their customers. No appointment is necessary to sell anything to them of the above mentioned items. In fact, on my recent visit I inquired about how the process works and I was able to take them 50 used books that I've read and kept in my library in great condition and I was able to receive $50 in credit toward purchases or $27 in cash. They offer you (after assessing your items) a choice. You may either receive cash or store credit. You will always receive more if you opt in store credit over cash. They will keep up with your store credit, they do that for you! They have a computer system that maintains any in-store credit so it can never be lost and it can never decrease in value or expire. Good to know!! Also good to know is the store credit can be redeemed for anything in the store. (You must be 18 with a valid ID in order to sell items or use your in-store credit)!! Over a week's time, I've been in the store 4 times. The first time was because I had heard so much about it from close acquaintances. The next time was to make a purchase. The third time was to sell books. In the most recent time was to order a book. Every time I've had wonderful people assist and interact with me. I've even witnessed them being quite happy in their work with all of the people who have come through on every occasion. Most recently Carl assisted me with the ordering of a book which could either be a gently used book or a new book. The choice is yours but the process was easy and Carl was a gem. When I sold my used books, Michael helped me. He was very informative and he felt like you knew him all your life because that's the type of service he gave. Associates who were present when I have come to the store recognized me and gave a salutation and a warm welcome and made small talk. That's the kind of service anybody wants when they go into a place. It took me four days it to complete this review because each time got better and better and better. I am truly a fan of 2nd & Charles. They happen to be owned by Books A Million. I really like the aesthetic of this store, the representation of the employees, the selections and the organization and cleanliness as well. I'm a fan and you will be too! read more

2nd & Charles literally has 1000 copies of Justin Bieber's theatrical released movie, "Never Say Never" on DVD. If that's not incentive to at least walk into the store and check it out, I don't know what is. The main draw of 2nd & Charles is al the "geeky/nerdy" merchandise that they have to offer. Everything from pop cap toys to video games to comics. They also offer a wide array of books, movies, and music. It is a lot of stuff under one roof and I would find it hard to believe that someone who is interested in any of these things can't find something that they could buy for themselves. With that being said, the prices for somethings are a little up there. The idea is that you can see the product and buy it then and there without worrying about shipping, damage, or any other ailments happening to a precious collectible. If paying a premium for that security isn't a big deal then this is the place for you. Again, they have a ton of stuff. It's a cool place, especially for the younger crowd to get gifts or something for themselves without shopping online. read more

I am ANGGRRRYYYY at this place. I bought a couple of cute knick knacks for Christmas presents, and at the end of the transaction the woman checking me out tells me because I'm a first time customer I'll get 3 magazines today for free. She showed me a list and asked me which ones I wanted. I pointed out 3, because she gave me the impression she was about to hand me them. Then she asked for my address (something I thought is normal now with first time customers). We finished up the transaction, then she gives me my receipt and quickly mentions that my subscription information is on the bottom of the receipt. I didn't read it till I got outside and it said it would be autorenewing after the first month! I was so upset that they had submitted my credit card info and my address to a random third party company subscription company without telling me. I called them and they told me there was nothing they could do to cancel it, I had to call the magazine companies themselves to cancel the subscription. I spent for. ever. trying to, and I still haven't been able to successfully cancel yet. They have cute stuff, but they 100% are misleading people and that sucks. read more

I had never used the "buy back" service, so I called beforehand to make sure I wasn't making a wasted trip. They told me they accept buy back books up to an hour before that department closes and on weekends they limit it to 3 book bins (about the size of the USPS mail bins) per person. We got there about 3 hours before they closed. When we walked in the gentleman behind the counter said we could only do 3 bins (not the weekend, but maybe because of the time?). We ended up having exactly 2 1/2 bins anyways. He told us it would be 30-45 minutes. We walked around for a minute and were very impressed with the store. It was clean and had LOTS of options. Not only do they have all genres of books, they have board games, music and video games! The staff was very friendly and helpful. With two toddlers at dinner time, we told them we would be back after we ate. They sent me a text after about an hour that my order was completed. We were stoked they ended up taking all of our books (I had about 20 paperbacks and 30 hard cover books). Unfortunately they only gave me $15.60, but it shouldn't be that surprising as their re-sell items are also very cheap. Overall had a great experience, but will probably just sell books at a garage sale in the future. I will definitely be back to BUY books though! read more

Again do not buy or sell here they prey on the unknowing customer on buybacks to profit and sell the items at 20% over msrp. They take you refusing their insulting offer on buybacks as an insult and will get aggressive and act as if you are being irate when you question them about it. Oh and talking to the buyback manager is like licking a cheese grater. He acts like he knows everything about anything. You will get frustrated with him because he was taught that the customer is always wrong. He told me when a argued about their buyback policy that nobody is putting a gun to my head. Just does not sound like professionalism. I am the customer I have every right to argue an insulting and deliberate rip off offer. Hopefully this guy will handle things different in the future but I doubt it. Only a matter of time before this store becomes a ghost town. read more

Somewhat decent book selection. Mainly only the big authors and then a lot of 50¢-$2 no-name authors. But I do like it that they sell used books. Decent prices. Awful music though.. It's ALWAYS quite loud and overpowering pop music in a store which has something like 8 love seats next to the book section for you to sit, relax and read... while the music blares on. It's not very relaxing at all and is a wee bit oxymoronic. Not sure if they want their customers to quickly choose what they want without browsing for potential extra purchases, buy what they came for and leave immediately after or what the motivation is behind the music. Added a star because of their fantastic comic selection. They have a LOT of awesome titles and have a good amount of somewhat hard to find issues. The books, the bargain bin and the comics are what keep me coming back. read more

This is one of my favorite stores in the town center area to walk around and explore. It feels like there is always something new to find or discover when you visit the store. I love their free bins out front and right inside the store where people place books that weren't bought back and they want to donate/share with others. So many fun fan items for everything from Marvel to Jurassic Park to Anime. I love this store. read more

Was asked to leave Covington Louisiana store because I refuse to wear a mask per dr orders offered to present the employee a letter from my dr which I do not have to do my medical situation is none of their business once I stated that I had a dr letter in my truck and would be glad to present it to him he was still very rude and continued to insist I leave the store and was very rude to me as per government orders if a customer tells you they have a medical condition you are not allowed to push the issue further as for me I'll never be shopping at this location again the employees are very rude and extremely inconsiderate of people with disabilities apparently read more

Lots and lots of stuff to look through if you are into looking through stuff--board games and video games, rows and rows of books and comic books, dvds and lps, vinyl pop figures and pop music on vinyl. Trading stuff is a hassle. It took three hours for them to figure out what their small offer should be. I'm confident trade in credit stretches further at a local bookstore or a local record shop. As a one stop trade in, I guess they do provide a service. read more

Oh 2nd & Charles... I love you but my bank account does not lately. My first stop in was on opening weekend. It was love at first sight. I have found several books I wanted but did not need. I have actually expanded my cook book collection quite a bit as their selection is expansive. Their children's book selection is extensive. Some of the prices have been higher than I'd pay but for the most part I am saving money buying here than on other sites. It's a great place to find a gift for someone as there seems to be something for almost everyone. Excellent selection of journals, religious gifts, nerdy gifts, brand new books. Omg i absolutely love this place!! So many unique items to look at. The comics are nice and cheap and a good selection. Plus they are put in some type of order to find the comics easily. I was happy to see a big graphic novel section as well. The staff is very friendly and helped us out. Playstation games were also cheap but not a big selection. There were books but kinda small in the older books i was looking for... Compared to Chamblin. Even though its a far drive for me, I will definitely be a repeat customer whenever im in the area. read more

I had heard about this place and that they buy used books. I took 15 books to them, now the books were in amazing condition and they were teen chapter books. The man working said "I can give you $6 in cash or $11 in credit." I had him repeat it because I was in shock. It was so crazy to me and such a scam. I spent good money on these books, and for them to offer coins per book for them to sell the books for $10 was absurd to me. The cashier that was working there too was very rude and when I held my hand out to accept my change she threw the coins on the table. read more

This place was quite the pleasant surprise! Stumbled upon this newly opened & very large used bookstore& more! It was filled to capacity with coolness! This place carries used books and tons of retro vinyl, record players, but also has guitars, board games and video games, costumes, accessories, etc. When we entered they even had a live band grooving! It's open now and carries a full stock of every item you can ask for! I spent hours browsing and ended up buying 8 children's books at buy 3 get 1 free (children's used books). A super cool cake cook book, & I even bought a "cat in the hat" hat! I Love this place and will spend many happy hours here in my near future! You need to check the prices in the stack of each book you want as some are considered "used" and thus are cheaper than others of the exact same book. The used ones are sometimes actually new but may have been scuffed in shipping to books a million who also owns this chain. We also learned they give you survey for a $5 off $25 coupon at checkout which can be redeemed same day, you receive it. Buy something small first & do your survey and as soon as you do the survey you get the email coupon! Then go bonkers and buy the bigger item! They also do not have plastic bags so byob or buy one for $.99 that is a plain branded or splurge a couple dollars for a way cool designer style! read more

Went to sell som books and game Sunday, not the first time I went there. Went in around 4pm as soon as I went in and started to put my thing in the white boxes the person at the buy back counter( drew) is telling me there is a limit on oil many boxes I can leave. I had 4 and he said there was a 3 limit, how ever there is a sign that says if you have more than 3 they will give you a wait time. I told drew that and he said they will only take three. When I took the three up to the counter he started to pull things out we will not take this or this. He did not give us a wait time. When I came back for what they did not take there was two boxes . The two of the boxes did not look like anyone touched them, and I didn't even get a reason why they did not want what they gave back.
