Weeks later I got an email saying that the address I put in was wrong and they would not be refunding me. I asked what the book was, and it took them eight (angry) emails before they responded. They CRITICIZED the book I purchased twice and INSULTED the authors. I had paid for the book ($10) as well as shipping the first time. The owner was angry with me and said he would only send me the book if I paid for shipping again a second time (which was less than $7). I sent him $20 and my corrected address. He refunded me $10 and sent me an invoice for the shipping of the book to the correct address. When the book finally arrived, he had WRITTEN in the book (a limited copy) and AGAIN criticized the book and the authors. The owner was very UNPROFESSIONAL throughout our entire interaction. Please do yourself a favor and purchase your books somewhere else.

About a month ago, I sung the praises of Eborn Books' Layton Hills Mall location, and now I'm all the way on the other side of the valley to sing more praises. Eborn has new, used, and even rare, and out-of-print books. They lean a little too heavy on the religious books (especially Mormon/LDS books) for my taste (the back of this store is dedicated to the subject). One thing I notice now is that each store is different, which isn't surprising for an organization involved heavily in used and rare books. The Provo store seems more voluminous in its collection. While Layton seemed have the perfect amount of books for their shelves, the Provo seemed more like an old college lit professor's home, brimming with books in every nook and cranny. This is by no means a criticism ... the more books, the merrier! If you're a fan of James Patterson, Louis L'amour, Idiots/Dummies books, man, this is the right place for you to spend an afternoon. And rare books ... I saw first editions for Victor Hugo, Jack London, Hart Crane, James Fenimore Cooper, and Eugene O'Neill (to name a few). I'm comfortable in concluding that Eborn of Provo has "a lot of almost everything". I'll have to go back for another round soon. Still, this location is EVEN BETTER than Layton--although, not in my opinion, as stacked as the SLC location. Still, amazing.

I used to hit up the FYE back in the DVD days, but haven't gone in one since Obama's first term. So imagine my surprise when I'm rolling through the Provo Mall to see an FYE. Stunned. When I went in, it was much different than I remember. The DVDs and CDs were mostly relegated to the bargain bins. FYE's reason for survival quickly became clear: The most voluminous collection of Pop! Funko in the entire mall; a gigantic Rick & Morty display in the front; enough pop culture t-shirts to clothe an army; DC and Marvel comic clothes and collectables, vinyl records and cool turntables; and Pop Sockets (accessories for the back of cell phones). They've really found a way to stay competitive with the other pop culture stores by having "exclusives", such as the Batman/Aquaman 2-pack, and Pennywise (with teeth) from "It", and Jimmy Hendrix burning his guitar at the Monterrey Pop Festival. I put the word "exclusives" in quotes as you can get them on Amazon; however, even those have the FYE label on them. The "For Your Entertainment" of FYE has changed a bit, away from the movies themselves and rapidly toward the clothes we wear and the collectibles we display long after we see the film. I get the distinct feeling that the new, evolved FYE is here to stay.

Indeed, it was a dark and stormy day on this visit and going down a set of stair into the inner recesses of the building sort of lent that vibe. It is a very cool place, chock full of stuff, ranging from action figures, some of which I haven't seen in over a decade, to other, much more recent stuff, displays as dioramas, arcade cabinets, and a veritable host and slew of other items. Right when you walk in, you will be in a front area with a ton of comic book action figures, always a welcome sight, but there is quite a lot more as you progress further and deeper into the bowels of the store. These kind of places sort of live and die on a couple of things, which are, namely, selection and price, and on both counts, this store excels. Not only can you easily spend hours sifting through the magic on the shelves, but I didn't find a single price I thought was out of line. Most of them were quite reasonable, in fact, which is nice to see, given what the toy market has been doing in recent years. This seems like another passion project and the owner is quite pleasant to visit with as well, so with any luck, this one won't stay super under-the-radar for too long. Our most recent visit was to the Spanish Fork Dragons Keep location (and will be our last) to purchase cards for some One Piece TCG decks we were building. We found a whitebox of rares and don cards for OP-16. At checkout, the cashier (who happened to be the store owner for Dragons Keep, Leeder Francis) said that each rare was $0.50 then my wife asked if each Don!! card was also $0.50 as she looked at the TCGplayer market price which was $0.30 and we did not see any in store listing price. Leeder responded with: Yes, they are $0.50 which this bulk price saves you money. My wife proceed with the transaction and we left. I was curious how much we were saving so on the drive home (we live about 20 minutes away) I decided to get on TCGplayer to check that claim. The TCGplayer market price would have been $10 cheaper total and on average, rare cards were worth $0.20 (I honestly wouldn't have cared about the price difference but Leeder mentioning that we saved money I now wondered how). I decided to call the store about this discrepancy, after explaining the situation to the employee that answered, I was handed to Leeder. I patiently tried to explain our experience buying singles at their multiple locations which has included both bulk price per card and using TCGplayer market price. Leeder explained that their store policy was to charge $1.00 per rare (rip off by the way) for One Piece TCG so him charging $0.50 per rare (still a terrible deal) was us "saving money". This explained our misunderstanding, and would have been sufficient for our questions, and we would have moved on. However, he then continued to state our previous experiences at Dragons Keep where we were charged TCGplayer market price instead of a bulk price per card was a lie and that we were liars. A little taken back, I tried patiently to tell him we've had employees at their stores in the past sell us commons, uncommons and, rares based on TCGplayer market price. After some time of Leeder's unprofessional and rude behavior, he told us we could return the cards for a refund then "get the f*ck out of his Dragon's Keep". I'm still somewhat bewildered that the store owner would behave like this to a customer over a reasonable misunderstanding. There must be some miscommunication between stores/employees on charging for One Piece TCG singles. Note the entire phone call lasted only 6 minutes, the portion I talked to Leeder was probably 4 minutes, very short temper, cannot work with customers. As a result of this conversation, I'm leaving a 1 star review and will never go back to any Dragons Keep for any reason. Initially I was going to leave a three star review due to their pricing with regards to One Piece TCG singles being inconsistent across stores and even individual employees (with respect to commons, uncommons and less expensive rares). Some employees will scan each individual card and go off the TCGplayer market price while others charge a bulk price per card which is confusing and frustrating as the customer since going at different times or locations can result in a significant variation in total cost. I think the employees are great and kind, even though I don't think they are following what Leeder expects, and the tournaments/events we've been to also have been great (granted we haven't tried other locations because we were very happy with Dragons Keep, but we will now) with an awesome community. To those getting into One Piece TCG both to collect/display cards as well as to play the game, buy off TCGplayer. It might be a little intimidating as a first purchase but if you buy enough from the same seller you avoid paying shipping, you will save a decent bit of money over Dragon's Keep, and you will save time instead of hunting through unorganized boxes/binders. I would normally like to and encourage others to support their local stores but, business owners like Leeder don't deserve your money or support.

The staff are friendly, and I've had some friendly chats with other customers as well. It is a fun place to commune over our shared interest of music. There is plenty of new and used vinyl, and they even have a decent cassette and CD selection. Bright lighting and some good background music make it easy to find things and lose track of time. They have a very active, friendly Facebook community as well. A must visit in Sandy.

I've gone to about 4 auctions and I've seen the same record bought 4 times. I've seen this same record at the store too, and it's not like a special record haha. I'm not sure if the customer base wants to burn money? Like record collecting, of course, is a money-burning hobby, it just looks like they're burning dough for records that just ain't worth it. I do wish the selection here felt like it wasn't for people that just listen to classic rock radio all the time. What keeps me from crate digging is how unorganized everything is. Sure, separated by genre, but I'm not sure if any organization goes into these genres. It's like they just saw what had space and put incoming records in those spaces. You could find an elvis record and then 4 crates later find another (or maybe the same) Elvis record, knowing you went through different artists.
