This is my favorite second-hand media store in the entirety of Virginia Beach and I cannot recommend them enough! The employees are some of the kindest, professional, welcoming, and charismatic people I know, the store is always clean and organized, the prices are all very reasonable, and their selection DVDs, CDs, vinyls, books, and more are all fantastic and make me feel like I'm always finding int something new for my collection. Update for change over time: They don't offer too much when they buy your items, but they have insanely good prices. The service is great, and they let you verify that game consoles/cartridge games are legit before you buy. This place is absolutely amazing, I just wish they'd buy at a slightly higher price. This place is worth checking out for books, movies, games, manga, and even collectibles. This is like Cool Stuff or Videogame Heaven, but with even more great things to buy. Terrible experience. I called ahead to see what the cash buyout was as I had a lot of books I was going through. I was told that since they sell books at half the MSRP they buy books at 10-15% of that cost. Several of the books I dropped off were an MSRP IF $17+ and in excellent condition. When I received the quote the next day it was an offer of $13.65. I was told that it's probably because they had a packed kids section. HOWEVER, this was not told to me over the phone or at drop off. I wasted hours of time and energy pulling this together and making sure I was bringing good books to get the max amount. I expressed my frustration with the process when I picked up the books. This place is interesting. We had some time to kill while dining nearby and I wanted to come in when I realized it was a book store. I'm a classic literature English major so bookstores are my jam. This one is neat. A mix of used items for lower prices and newer books as well as gifts and "nerd" stuff. I loved it! It's huge. They had a large selection of Funko figures some used and some new, some rare and some not. Lots of seasonal items for Halloween since it's the next major holiday coming up, and rows and rows and rows of books in all the genres and topics you could want. Impressive! Trade in policy is a joke. The store is nice enough. Lots of new and used items to choose from. I saw the selection of used DVDs ranging anywhere from $4-$8, on average. Decided I would bring in 45 single DVDs movies, good titles and 4 seasons of the Sopranos, all in perfect condition, no finger prints, etc. I didn't expect much, as I know DVDs are kind of old tech, but given the price they were selling for, thought I might get a decent amount. Total offer $8.90 cash or $16 store credit. I had to have him repeat it, as I thought I was hearing things. LOL. So, anyone thinking about doing trade in's may want to save money on gas and go ahead and pass. read more

Let me start by saying, I DID NOT EVEN KNOW WE HAD ONE! I found out about this store in NC when they had their "penny a page" book sale. When I found out we had one local I screamed! This place has a little bit of everything from books to records to toys to games to things you wouldn't find if you were looking for it. They also deal in buying and trading items but that's where the rub is... I'm not sure where the gauge for pricing when they buy items but they are as about as cheap as GameStop when they purchase used items from you especially when you know the value of what you have. I understand they as a company need to make a profit as well but offering Pennie's on the dollar of what your item is worth is bull shit. The staff there are respectful but definitely not knowledgeable as far as purchasing used items. They are definitely the kind of people you'd expect to be working in a place like that. read more

I love book stores. This one was especially fun! They've got all types of books, games, toys, collector items, music, you name it, they've got it. I had no idea this place was here. It's pretty large in size, and it's very organized. They've got signs everywhere and the aisles are clear. I love how they have a section of records and cds that left me very nostalgic. The only thing that would have made this store even better would be to add comfortable seating. This was still a very fun time killer for an old married couple on date night. read more

2nd and Charles is a combo of new bookstore, used books, games, instruments and misc gift items. They also buy used books and games from customers in exchange for cash (a very small amount) or trade or credit to use in the store. ( a small amount as well ). If you decide to sell be sure to come well before closing and be prepared to wait. I image part of the process is to force you to shop as they spend massive amounts of time looking over your used books. Signage indicates 30 minutes or less. We waited about 45 despite no line of other buybacks and several employees. We raked in a whopping $8 credit for about 20 books. Granted most of the books were classics and not in short supply. You may get .50 a book or more but don't count on anything exciting unless you have high demand books. The selection of books and games and novelty items is fairly good and used books are reasonably priced and in good condition. Will I sell to them again? Probably not. I'd rather donate and not have to wait 45 minutes. read more

Every other online search of mine is "books," "comics, "video games," "used books," "vintage books," etc. - and yet I had to actually physically stumble across this place to discover that it existed. From afar, I assumed it was some sort of Dress Barn-style cheap clothing store; nothing about the name or their unappealing sign hints at how cool this place is. I didn't even know such a digital marketing failure was possible in 2023 - if I even think of something or mention it to a friend, I get bombarded with ads for it. In spite of my entire online profile being someone seeking this sort of place and living in the same zip code as it, I would have had no idea it existed if I hadn't literally driven past it and said "what's that place with the awkward name?" Wild! This place is clearly the best bookstore of its type in Virginia Beach; it's enormous, insanely well stocked with all genres and a good mix of new and used, and utterly loaded with additional gifts, shirts, toys, records, music instruments, video games, etc. etc. etc. etc. It makes the established stores like AFK and Book Exchange look absolutely shabby by comparison, which makes sense as it's secretly Books-A-Million-owned. BAM, fire your digital marketers! It's clean, big, and a great spot for either gold digging (record and comics bins) or very specific title hunting. You could walk in here with $50 and fill every single stocking and Secret Santa gift in your life in a blink. Something is just plain off about the staff here, unfortunately. They all have a kind of grim, awkward, standoffish disposition, and it seems to be consistent across shifts and days of the week. In spite of being festooned with signs imploring you to sell them their stuff, the one time I came in with a modest armful of things the staff member backed away from me waving her arms in a warding off motion like I was carrying a human head. They only seemed to be interested in Harry Potter and Pokemon, anything else is pennies on the dollar. What is offered is very much insulting. Popped over to peruse while waiting to be seated at a nearby restaurant. Bookstore that sells used and new merchandise, with a little of everything. All the major genres as well as special novelty anime, comic book items can be found here. Nice size section for manga and comic books. Also features a cool record section. There's also the option to exchange various types of media for cash or store credit, which is typically reviewed while you wait patiently. :) Staff seemed helpful and courteous. Store was easy to navigate with good signage and aisle spacing. Will definitely drop by again when I have more time to peruse. I was in the area and decided to stop here after seeing an Instagram ad for this place. It's sort of an FYE meets Barnes and Noble with used items offered with new items. On the sidewalk, there were a few carts with discounted used books and a bin marked "free." All the free items were gone so can't say what was being given away there. The store is pretty large and there are signs all over encouraging you to resell your movies, games, books, and other fan memorabilia with them. There's also several screens to let you know what customer number is being helped with the resell process so you can browse while you wait your turn. There was a pretty decent selection for everything and the organization was great. The only thing was I couldn't quite tell if used books were separated from new books in the back. The place is pretty cool and worth checking out if you love buying books, looking for a gift, or just walking through bookstore aisles. read more

The people here are very polite but the items you buy are absolutely garbage. I've bought the "mystery boxes" there which me and my wife love because there fun when family or friends are around. 90% of the time the dvds in the box are scratched beyond working condition, cracked, stained with god knows what, or even missing. We bought three boxes a couple weeks ago and could hardly keep more then 7 DVDs all together. And there's 50 in each. 30$ gets you a box of junk. And we were told management would call us and they have not at all which we figured. Not a great business. Would give 0 if I could read more

I received a large gift card to Books a million, and and Charles owns it .The store on Princess Anne Rd closed so I went to the one on Va Beach Blvd. They refused to honor the card!!!
