This is my go to place for anime figurines. I get them cheaper than what I would pay for them online or at anime conventions. Convention I went to had a vendor want 60 dollars for a figurine that I found at this store for 45 dollars. They have a great selection of figurines from popular shows like One Piece, Naturo, Re:Zero, etc. as well as figurines that are harder to find such as vtuber figurines from Hololive. Game selection is great as well ranging from as old as the Atari 2600 to as new as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The staff seem like they don't care but are very friendly and helpful once you approach them. This is definitely the best place to go if you live in Ghent, go to ODU or are in the area of Downtown Norfolk. read more

Plenty of retro and modern games if that's what you're looking for but the people running the store and the employees are dishonest and will undersell you on your trade ins. Went in 5/27/25 to trade in some collectible figures for a PS2 I was looking at, after ab 30 minutes of waiting for an appraisal the staff comes back and says my figure is worth 192 on a trade for IN STORE CREDIT (w/ 20% added for trade in Tuesday's) not knowing the true value of what I had at the time, I accepted the trade and ended up buying a PS2, memory card, warranty, and 2 PS2 games as well which ended up costing me ~300 in total; despite having a figure worth 4-500 I was given a fraction of what it was actually worth and ended up OWING them money. They then claimed that I need to remember that "they are a small business so ‍" What VGH failed to realize is that I had NO issue trading the item in to them since WITH the money I got from the trade I was going to immediately spend it back at the store meaning they would only stand to have made money on our transaction. The issue I have is VGH pulling an underhanded move like this then turning around allowing me to then spend more of my money in store (when my trade-in value was never met in the first place). TLDR: VGH lost a potential returning customer who would have given significantly more money to this company in time than what they got by cheating me out a SINGLE collectible figure. EDIT: I was also given a 3rd party PS2 controller when I bought my PS2 which is a laughable business practice. read more

The racist undertones were apparent once we walked through the door to return a single game controller that was purchased less than 24 hours as first time patrons. We received a humiliating lecture in not reading the receipt which has 8 different store credit policy that makes no sense considering this store appears to be a small vendor that relies on thr community to keep the doors open. But the icing in the cake was the store manager I believe, he didn't announce his role, slipped out of his mouth that most niggers can't read as the cashier was preparing the cash back return for the item after saying he will allow it this one time. I guess he decided to break his own policy that is written on his receipt of no cash back returns - only store credit by how huge my eyes got when I heard the horrible word come out of his mouth. I will never return and I feel sorry for the African American male store cashier that works there for his calm and kind demeanor is what made me purchase in the first place. I will also be reporting this place to the BBB as well, maybe I don't know how to read how to make sure racists store receives reviews that hurt them just like they hurt their customers. read more

I came in last night looking for a PS Vida. And some switch games. They had some they were a little high priced but I bought them anyway. They asked for a review and I said sure I'll give them one. Today I found a PS Vita that was a really good deal. So I went back here to get a game that looked good. They've have this game inside called resistance. Now Online and everywhere else is selling the game for 20 bucks. I asked if he could come down a little bit on price because of other locations and the price they have it listed at. He gave me a nasty look and stated "we don't operate like that. If you want cheap things get them elsewhere. " I am from out of state and we don't act or say things like that to customers. Especially ones that came into your shop and spent 100 bucks last night. That's just bad business. I will never be back here or recommend this place. read more

Vintage and next gen game store that sells anime merch. They have a very good selection of used games from the Original NES all the way to PS5. Always welcoming and they play good music to get you into the mood to look for older games. Prices are decent considering the retro videogame market is gross enough pricewise. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is the parking sucks. read more

I have been to this store on several occasions after first checking out the beach store. This one is larger with more selection. They also have something the other two stores do not offering repair. The location is in the heart of Ghent. Parking is off street and free. The visibility is decent, but it may be easy to pass up. They are across the street from the new Starbucks. The staff really shine at this location and that's why I have returned. If you like Game Stop then you will find a different model of new, used and retro gaming that GS does not offer. They added a repair area that works on game systems around a year ago. The staff is crazy knowledgeable about everything gaming. They know the history of the systems, when new systems are changing and most important to customer new releases of games to get a heads up. My interactions with the staff and there expertise gives them the extra star. Purchases at the register have been smooth and friendly. I would recommend checking them out for your gaming needs. read more

Finally. A retro gaming store in the downtown area of Norfolk. Ghent specifically. No more dealing with the cruddy Gamestop on 21st st, if you don't want to. VGH has expanded to 3 stores and their newest location looks like it's going to be their best one yet. Square footage wise it's definitely the largest and they're still in the process of filling up the space. You will find pretty much all of your retro game needs here especially if you're into the Nintendo era's of gaming. Classic NES, Super NES, N64, Gamecube, etc... It's all there. Sony Playstations 1-3, it's all there. X-Box 1 and X-Box 360. Yeap that's there too. Same goes for Sega. I saw Master System, Genesis and even Dreamcast cartridges as well as the portable Game Gear. Now if you're really old school... there's even Atari 2600 hardware as well. (My generation). I also saw a boxed Atari 5200 on the shelf and cartridges for the 5200 and 7800 systems in the cases. Even the infamous ET cartridge was on the shelf, for those of you that know about that stinker. In addition to selling old systems and games they also have a repair and refurbishing area in the back can pretty much fix or rebuild just about any of those classic consoles. You can find the Ghent VGH location on Colonial Ave about a block from 21st street. They're located in the same shops as Cogan's, Local Hero's, Cafe Stella. Parking is on the street and there's a small lot behind Cogan's that all the shops also share. read more

Back in February of this year I went to their colonial ave store, after calling about having my ps4 pro repaired. Quoted me on the price, told me what the procedure was if it couldn't be fixed ( I would lose a $15 dollar deposit for technicians time, i respect that.) When I arrived, they took my console in and my deposit and told me they would give me a call in a few days with good or bad news. Four days later, they called to tell me they were going to give me a full refund for even the deposit, because my console was fixable, but their equipment to do so was broken, and they had no idea when that would be fixed so I should just call in a few weeks or until it was fixed... fast forward to yesterday at 6:45, I called to inquire about the tool being fixed. The man who answered the phone said he was unaware if anyone was still in the back doing repairs, as they had gone already left for the day, but could still transfer my call to see if i got someone. Unfortunately, I don't remember his name, but he said after I asked that the tool was indeed fixed, but right now there are a lot of repairs so it could take up to 7 business days, if not longer. told him that would be alright, i just wanted to get it fixed. I went on to ask if it was better to bring it in right then, or tomorrow, because the other guy who answered the phone said that the tech was if not already out, on the way out the door. He said whatever was convenient for me, tonight, as they will be open until 8, or tomorrow morning. I told him Id bring it by tomorrow, because it was already late. Then TODAY, when I showed up to drop of my console, guy at the front counter said they were "at capacity, and you should have given us a call first." I informed him I did, and this seemed to shock him, as he went back into the back to double check. When he came back out front, he said that they were indeed at capacity and I should give them a call another time to inquire, and that he appreciated me. I'm a chump and don't know where else to get my console fixed, so i'm just gonna have to wait until the ps5 releases at GameStop. read more

They have LOTS of old games for just about all of your favorite 80's-90's consoles, they also sell the consoles and controllers which is cool as I'll be needing a new one soon. I stopped in here by accident, looking for the comic book shop (it's a few doors down). I was pleasantly geeked out by the retro colors and fancy cases sorted by system. Cases being the qualm as well. Everything was in a locked glass-front case, so you couldn't even flip an empty case around to read about a game. I guess the staff could let you look at one, but I didn't have any interaction with them, other than an incoming 'Hello.' They were chatting with two other folks. I ended up whipping my phone out to check on the game in question, I also found the game significantly cheaper on Amazon. I'm a fan of supporting the local shops, but not a fan of all the hands off here. This would be a good place to pick up a reliable copy of an old NES game. Not a great place for the random purchase of a used Wii-U game. read more

This place is well laid out and looks like it will provide more space and possibly more gaming choices to their customers. I recently stopped here and it was still empty but I can't wait for the store to fill up some more. The staff that day were great, but they haven't ever disappointed in any location! Really great selection might be the best selection around however they sometimes charge almost double for what the game is worth, places like oldskool have much better prices in my opinion although if you're looking for a hard to find game they probably have it which is nice, living in Newport News I wish they had one in the hampton area so I wouldn't have to cross the water but overall really solid store super friendly staff no complaints! read more

My husband and I should have never found this place! We visit here almost every month, which doesn't seem like a lot but when you drop 150-200 each time it adds up.
