Horrible pricing on Comics. They used to be .95 for back issues with some keys being more. Now forget it. I dont know who decides prices but their back issues are all damaged and the are charging $5-$10 or more for their back issues that are bent , torn, ragged, water damaged and not even for key issues, but issues that are worth 50 cents at best. I looked the other day and an issue of X-men 2099 #20 which is worthless and they had a price sticker on it for $7.95. Save yourself the time and skip this crapfest. read more

Second location to open in Pennsylvania and both are within reasonable travel distance? Sweet! 2nd & Charles is located in the MacArthur Towne Center (North of the Lehigh Valley and Whitehall Malls) using space previously occupied by Max & Jill and Barnes & Noble. Store is clean and modern looking, by far the brightest 2nd & Charles I've shopped at. They use an odd organization system for books similar to the Harrisburg location that can be confusing. Has the usual selection of new and used books, toys and collectables, and video games. Comic books were still organized and store had a large selection of inexpensive books. Movie selection is smaller than at other locations. 2nd & Charles Whitehall is still filling out stock and is new, so I expect them to get better over time. Be aware they don't give out bags and its a few dollars to buy a 2nd & Charles reusable bag. Free bins outside have books customers could not sell to the store, always worth checking even if you take nothing. Store is new and still finding itself, so it's not perfect right now, but you can easily get lost browsing all the selections. Be prepared! read more

I really wish they had a dollar bin for comics. Instead, they have comics that someone has gone to great trouble to individually price everything. No deals to be had here for the comics unfortunately. The other spot of the store I always check out is the foreign language section: abysmal. They had a single shelf of non-Spanish books. Abysmal! I dropped off four boxes of DVDs and a few books and I was shocked when I got the Store credit for my DVDs and books! They offered me $3.95 for at least over 100 items. Many of the DVDs were series complete series of TV shows! I couldn't even pay for the gas to go there and drop off these items this is ridiculous! I cannot understand how they have good reviews! I will never ever ever again do this total waste of my time and money! and to be sure I will tell everybody I meet about the scam of a business! I figured I got about seven cents for the DVDs even the ones with the the whole series crazy scam! This place is a big rip off I told 60 books brand new like looks like it they were not even read. They called my husband saying that they were only going to give us 16.45 for them my husband refused the offer and told them we will be down in a week the lady said okay but when he want for them there was only 23 books there and said they couldn't found the other books so my husband had to take the 16.45. When I called and said we're are my books they said they donated them. But found out from an employee that they sell them or the employees take them home. There's an employee named Noah who was a pleasure to deal with. He inspected my items with care and gave me a very fair offer. He even recommended a great series to watch called Evil Dead. The series was off...the...hook and groovey baby! He mentioned that he hoped my day was as pleasant as I was. A very nice compliment of him. There was a guy who looked like one of the hosts of mythbusters with him as well. I purchased a DVD copy of Frankenhooker and Eddie helped me out at the register. The store is clean and bright and has *lots* of stuff. So many of my fandoms were represented, and it was nice to see merchandise in person that I usually only see online. They have tons of books, but the used prices are all over the place. Some books are selling at list price, even though the dust jackets are rumpled. If something is on a display marked "gently used," it shouldn't be selling at the same price as a brand-spanking-new copy from Barnes and Noble. (Actually, since I get 10% off with my B&N membership, the used copy is more expensive.) However, other books (hard- and softcover) that were gently used were priced between four and six dollars. That seems much more reasonable to me. The staff on the floor were friendly, smiling and making small talk, but both of the guys I dealt with at the trade-in counter were bored, apathetic, and a bunch of other "I-think-I'm-better-than-you" adjectives. If you work in customer service, you should at least be able to fake a smile and make the experience pleasant for guests. But they acted like I was bothering them by asking them to do their jobs, which is sad. Speaking of the credit/trade system, it's absurd. I brought in a bunch of books, and they said they were interested in fifteen or so of them. Wanna know how much they offered me? Not even four dollars. For fifteen books! (All were published within the last ten years, most within the last five, and in very good condition.) I was shocked and disappointed; it's almost offensive to be offered a quarter a book when I can clearly see that they're selling them at such a ludicrous markup. read more

This bookstore was truly a gem to find, as I was in town for only a few days to be at my father's funeral service. My husband and I came across 2nd and Charles and loved it! Such a variety of goodies and books to choose from, and it reminded us a lot of the Bookman's stores back in Arizona. We are avid readers and always love finding an independent bookstore. This store is average at best. Store had lots of stuff and was very clean. The video game section was ok and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. However they had no saturn, sega cd, master system or turbographix games and had little nes or snes games. I picked out 6 of the 7 3do games and had to get a guy to open them with a knife because they taped the boxes shut and I had no way of knowing if the games were complete. When I paid, the cashier wanted to track my purchases and send me emails and get donation money, but god forbid they give me a bag to carry my 6 awkwardly long 3do boxes. No, I had to buy a bag if I wanted one. Ok, that's the review now I'm off to try and remove old tape without damaging an even older cardboard box. Fun times! read more

This was an amazing experience, they had tons of vinyl for a great price! I got a copy of Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits which is in near mint condition for 5 dollars. The staff was very friendly and when I asked the one person for help he stopped what he was doing right away just to help. Also the guy at the checkout was very nice (which is rare for stores). 2nd and Charles is my go-to store. I always search here first before going to Barnes and Nobles down the road. While I do love this store very much, sometimes it is very unorganized. I wish they would have computers open to the customers so you could personally search for a book you want. It would be so much easier to do that instead of waiting in line to ask them where a certain book is and if it is in stock or not. All in all though, this store is my safe haven and I always come here when I'm in the area. They have so much from books, CDs, movies, television series, bookish items, and even incense! Ok, so I loved this place at first. They have a great selection, and I like that my kids can find books that are missing from their various series..... BUT, the things I don't like override what I like. 1) I noticed that they sell some USED books (as it is a used book store) for the same exact price that they are sold brand new. I find that dishonest. 2) On two separate occasions I brought in boxes and boxes of books to sell them. The first time there are at least 200, the second there were about 100. Both times they offered less than $10. It was not even worth the work of packing them up, unloading them at the store (and mind you, they don't have a ramp in front of their store, so if you are using a cart, it's a whole lot of extra walking and pushing), and then repacking them and loading them back in my car. Any time I go to let my kids pick a book for their series I end up remembering that I'm not a big fan of the place.... read more

I didn't even know this place existed til maybe a week or two ago. But now that I've experienced shopping here, I know I'll definitely be going back. It's a typical second hand store, but they have a vast selection of items... books, CDs, DVDs, music instruments, video games & systems, etc. They will even potentially buy used products from you. My husband and I took an old tablet to them and they gave us store credit for it. So if you're looking for a way to turn some of your old items into cash, this might be the place to do so. I only gave four stars because they seem to be a bit selective with the used products they buy from customers, but i can actually understand that to an extent. There are a lot of books in here! I could not look at them all in one go. I would have liked if more books had a higher mark down. It was a little confusing when some books were the same price as they would have been new. The price range I saw most often was $4 to $7 in the fiction section so I saved a considerable amount of money. Many books appeared to have little wear as well. I've bought things from this location no problem. However I've gone to them three times with items I had bought to sell them back and I was rudely told no that we are no longer accepting those items. Or we cannot accept the item without a cord! Excuse me when I purchased my PlayStation I had to purchase an av cable off the shelf! What the hell is this??!!! I had to return 4 Xbox's to receive one that did not have the red death ring! This store has gone down and I refuse to ever patronize this location ever again!! Store is part of Books-A-Million,aka BAM,recently sited by Wall St. 24/7 as the worst company to work for.Welcome to the Lehigh Valley,Company That Is Listed As The Worst Place To Work-we needs the jobs. The store is brightly lit,brimming with stuff,clean and restrooms are nice. My experience is longtime for used books,movies and music;comic books and video games are unknown quanities.Add to that fringe areas that they sell-musical instruments,re-wrapped toys,calenders and candy at the checkouts.The edibles are not out of code-this ain't Amelias,thank goodness. Vinyl-New stuff seems to be OK.Nobody seems to be lowballing new vinyl and even FYE doesn't seem to be charging much above Amazon prices.These guys seem to be in line with other brick and mortar places. Their used vinyl section,however,is a joke.Trashed copies that Goodwill would have in a buck a box.including the ubiquitous Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream-four bucks(and that was a well played mono with heavy spindle marks).Record club copies,a real crapshoot since its possible that they weren't pressed by the original label,carry the same price as regular stock.You gotta know what a title should be going for,so smartphones tied into online resources are needed if you are buying something of value. And what to play your vinyls(sic)on?How about a nice,new Crosley.They got a lot of them.Eh,before you buy a $100 turntable to play/ruin your new $25 LP,check Youtube for a Crosley tutorial and don't say you weren't warned. CDs.As the market for CDs drops like a stone,someone tell these guys to get their act together.A four dollar "clearance" area with titles not worth a buck or two is not a clearance area.Also,let them know that Paul Simon is not filed under "Easy Listening",nor is George Harrison.And Trisha Yearwood is a country singer,not a "pop/rock" artist(Even Garth Brooks knows that.).I suspect the vinyl area has lots of mis-filed artists,too,it's just that i didn't have the patience to dig. After finding so many comman dollar records with such inflated prices,it didn't matter where they were filed,I wasn't buying. DVDs.Pathetic selection.No bargains. Books.Once again,as tablets and smartphones change the landscape of the printed page,party like it's 1999,because that the time period for many titles here.In all honesty,i didn't find prices out of wack compared to the ever shrinking brick and mortar used outlet.Others find fault with their organization here.I don't see anything too outrageous.They have new stuff,but there's no bargains here. Now for the fun part. Bringing in used product. The frist time I brough a selection of stuff I'd never miss-CDs,LPs and DVDs.Cash value would have been about ten bucks-credit,$22.Seemed OK to me.In fairness,I found enough stuff to use the credit up in one visit That Rolling Stone Record Guide,Fourth Edition,was calling me to come home to be with the older three editions Next time.A box of DVDs.Without mentioning titles,know that in this selection were four TV box sets,a sealed box of five movies that still sells on Amazon for $15(and could be separated to sell individually)-in all,18 pieces,including two more sealed titles.This time I was offered $6 cash,$10 credit.At those offers it is better to donate to the public library's next used sale and let them decide how to resell the stuff.Looking back,I wonder what goodie was in the first batch that brought that earlier offer to such a level? So,since you've gotten down to the end,like everything else-buyer and seller beware!Have a sense of value to what you are bringing in and keep an eye out for what you are buying.Oh,and bring a reusable grocery bag with you.No bags for your order.
