I went to 2nd Avenue for the first time last week. This is a huge thrift store, with a lot of merchandise. The coat section alone had at least 100 coats in size small. Everything is pretty clearly labeled and I found the pricing to be fair. As always I find it interesting which brands they price higher, while some designer or vintage labels are fairly inexpensive. They could use more mirrors around the store. I found it to be clean and well organized. If out for a thrifting trip you could also hit up the Goodwill on Telegraph which is hit or miss in my opinion. Worth a trip! read more

I used to be a very regular customer of 2nd Avenue in Laurel, but they've done so many things to turn me off, I'm shopping there far less frequently. Frankly, I'm surprised they're staying in business. FIRST, they've raised their prices gradually to ridiculous levels in some cases, considering that it's all donated so they're not spending any money on wholesale stock.b. Totally hit the jackpot when I was here! I am always looking for Pittsburgh items(university and sports teams)and found several items in my size here. I also found a nice Ann Taylor summer dress. 2T girl selection was disappointing. I thought an adidas skort was cute...until I realized the stains. The kid book selection is overwhelming -lots of good stuff. Value was very good and I'll return in the future. This might be my preferred location over Unique Merrifield. read more

Updating my review... wish I could still give this place 5 stars but I just can't. I was told recently that the store is under new management. The prices have really skyrocketed. I mean really badly raised. No longer feels like a steal. They still have quality items but I was told by an employee that new management has really changed things. I will say, as I feared, this place is always busy now. Lines when they open. Never enough carts. They must be doing well because they changed to self checkout but they hardly ever have enough open. Wait times are not good. Lines extending through the store. The part that bothers me is they are ALWAYS clearing the shelves of the color of the day tags as someone mentioned before. Half the employees are bringing new stuff out while the other half is clearing the color tag of the day! It's very frustrating since the prices are so high now. Finally- I've come out "burned" too many times recently. Small tears or broken items that never happened before. That may be my fault for not looking over something better but quality wasn't an issue in the past. Hope this store is sold again and brought back to what it once was!!! read more

I've been here a few times and today was no different than the other times I've been here; it's messy, cluttered, loud, and super overpriced. The shelves and racks are packed too full to be able to comfortably look through their items. Their home goods section is okay in size, but 75% of the items are chipped, cracked, or broken and should literally be thrown away, but they are somehow priced like they are in an antique store. No one wants broken merchandise. Make it make sense. Parents let their kids run freely here like it is a playground and I'm surprised there wasn't a kidnapping today, as they are completely unattended, leaving toys in the walkways that get kicked and stepped on, and don't get picked up. Sketchy men roam around here, spending a lot of time looking at the small bags of little items, many of which have been ripped open and appear to be missing items. Women don't respect personal space and get way too close for comfort, putting their hands in your face, shoving their cart in front of you, making rude remarks to others, etc. Between the high prices and the overall negative sensory experience, I think today's visit will be my last! good luck y'al! read more

Best thrift megastore! This wide and spacious 'megastore' has almost anything you could need for your family and friends. Racks and racks of cheap stuff.. T shirts, pants, games, hats, belts, shoes they all have yards-long displays of them arranged nice and clean. The megastore itself is the size of half a football field with plenty of open registers. Compared to the thrift store in Mt Vernon this place has a great selection of items, is very organized and cheap prices.

New management is horrible, not only did they shut down fitting rooms, they changed from three discount colors a day to 1 discount color, but you literally can search for hours and not find a SINGLE tag in that color for the day. They used to have two 33% discount colors for the day and one 50%. They now only do one 50% color off a day and you will never find a single item of clothing in the rack in that color that day. They also raised prices like crazy, can't find a single sweater for under 10 now. I go into this store and it's so slow now compared to previous years. It's only busy around holidays, but not even as busy as it used to be. They raised prices in an area where people can't afford to pay for even the previous prices you had let alone the new ones. Use to love this store but now the prices are way too high you can get things cheaper at Walmart! They get everything for free and have less employees, you have to check yourself out at registers that rarely work! They have dressing rooms but they will not let you use them to try things on! They want you to go home try something on they exchange (not a refund) it if it doesn't work! Ridiculous! I was scouring thrift stores for months looking for tea sets for a tea party baby shower I hosted. I found 2nd Ave while driving down route 1 on my way to a patient's house. It was calling my name so I made a pit stop after work. This place was humongous, super clean, organize and had very reasonable prices. I love that it didn't smell like someone's old musty basement. I was there close to two hours rummaging through shelves after shelves of cool stuff and didn't sneeze once. I filled my cart in no time, I found so many treasures and the following items; 3 tea pots, vases, platters, teas sets, candle holders, fake greens, candles, sugar bowls, table runners and a very cool wood and metal candelabra for 3 dollars and bone China service for 4... ALL for a whopping 124.00. I don't think I've spend that much at a thrift store ever. I spent a day with my glue gun repurposing most of the preloved items I bought. I love how the candelabra and DIY tiered platter turned out. My only regret is not coming on days they have discounts which is on Mondays and Thursdays I think. I'm definitely coming back now that I've started collecting tea sets. I can't wait for another treasure hunt trip at this awesome store. read more

Dressing rooms are closed, how can a person try things on without being indecent? Two mirrors in the whole super store, ridiculous!

You can tell the manager (Erica) of this location just sits and collects her check. wait time at the register was +25mins. Erica just walked back and forth folding the same damn shirt. The family in front of me (Latino) had an item that did not have a price tag. Erica was called to the front by the associate to give a price to them. She first just looked at the brand and charged them $6.99 for a non name brand exercise shirt that probably would've been cheaper. As soon as I came up with my items I realized one of the items did not have the tag. I asked could she price it for me as well. I was denied a price and told they do not sell items without a price tag. ( That was written in BOLD letters in the front of the store; I understand) I was just under the impression maybe if a manager was there they could price it. I genuinely feel she charged them any price because their English is not as great and they can't detest the price if they wanted to. I know for a fact she was discriminating against them. I've noticed it's become a fashion trendy store which is fine but I'm guessing that's why no more sales. I was a fan of 2A Thrift Store. I no longer am. I shopped there yesterday and was extremely disappointed that ALL check-outs are now SELF Checkout... This place is massive. They have so much stuff it's impossible to leave without something. Their game section is awesome. Got both halves of the Harry Potter Scene It games for like $5 each when they go for upwards of $100 new online. Found some great shirts, jackets, and fun boxes in the home good area. Sales person Brigette thought yelling to her co-worker was more important than completing my order. She never told me she was done ringing me up so I continued to stand there. She abruptly turned and said, you done. Then said I don't have to say when I'm done with you nor hand you the bag that was clearly behind the plexiglass partition. I asked and spoke with Brenda the manager and she dismissed me, saying OKAYYY.. I looked forward to good service but the employees are rude and making the experience horrible each time. I love second ave but sometimes they make it hard to do so. Huge variety. Quality is mostly good by there are some things that get through that should not have. Prices used to be really good but lately the prices have been hiked up... so much so it makes it hard for me to buy things. Example: kids used vans slip on shoes. They were noticeably worn and I would probably have to scrub them. They wanted $14.99. Absolutely not, the shoes were in play condition (meaning my kid would wear them only to play in so she doesn't mess up her other shoes). Lately the jackets are incredibly over priced. $35 for a used puffer coat?! Pyrex prices have gone up as well. A bowl that used to be $5 is now $10-$12. Worth going on a sale day, but non sale days makes it hard to shop there. Organization is a huge bonus. This review is more of a 3.75 stars, almost 4. Not a 3. read more

I lost a lot of weight this past year and our WW coach told me about 2nd Avenue. Amazing! Dresses, pants, jeans, nearly new shoes -- I have totally been able to replenish my closet through three size changes. The items and the store are very clean, some with tags. Since I mostly stick with classic clothing, I don't much worry if things are "in style." Every day, two tag colors are on sale for 50% off. On major holiday weekends, they have 50% off sale on all clothing and shoes. read more

The employees here are helpful, and you can find a lot of bargains, including on things like name brand make up, candles, kitchen appliances, bags, and clothing. I even found a suit jacket and tie for my son for a funeral in great condition (he is lean and tall, it's hard to find a jacket that will fit) for $11.00 total plus tax. I've also found candle holders and sofa pillows. You can also find college textbooks, business books, and DVDs in great condition. I would recommend them. read more

This is one of the best thrift stores in the area I have been going here for many years and every time I go I always find amazing items. The only concern that we had is that they don't have many plus size items however they do have lots of namebrand clothing options and I love when they do their half off on holidays and special deals throughout the week. read more

Ok WOW. I've been a hardcore goodwill thrifter for years, but I stumbled upon this place because the Goodwill along Richmond Highway is still closed due to the pandemic. I was in need of some new shoes, and I was pleasantly surprised! This thrift store is HUGE, there's obviously an extensive clothing section, but I was most pleased by the bags and shoes sections. I found a brand new Anne Klein bag and many pairs of affordable sandals that look almost new! Honestly the most organized thrift store I've ever been too! I found and bought cute children's books that look brand new, a white ceramic piggy bank, a vintage spider man magazine cover art frame, and two cute slippers to wear at home. Will most def come back on their discount days. read more

One of the most organized and well maintained thrift stores I have ever visitors in the area. The prices are a bit higher than I would like them but I have found quality items there during my visits. They have 50% off days which help offset that cost but it's worth a trip every time to check it out. For a thrift store - four stars. Imagine the poor relation to Ross or TJ-Maxx, The poor relation get's their rich relatives clothes after it's been worn once or twice. It's an accurate summary of this place. The place is huge, has an impressive variety of items, and is clean and well organized. They have kids, women's, men's, toys, household items, shoes, and valuables (jewelry, purses, etc). The staff does a decent job of organizing displays throughout the store (giving it the TJ-Maxx feel), and pointing you in the right directing if needed. read more

Great value but if you arrive between 9 am and 10 am, you will see the employees removing clothes with the 50% color from the racks. I asked a manager to explain and she said the store needed to make room for a new color. In response, I suggested that the store pull another color instead of the featured 50% off color of the day to avoid being perceived as a bait and switch store. read more
