I've been to the Old Town location 2x now and most likely will not be returning anytime soon. Overall, it's pricey for most of the pre-owned items. You are not getting much of a bargain and may pay close to the same price brand new. This store is extremely selective accepting what you bring in. Despite bringing in clean, well-kept items (some have never been worn) very little was accepted, which made the experience feel like a waste of time. After reviewing most of their inventory on the racks, it was hard to understand why many of the items I brought in were not accepted. It may be the "manager's" bias as she inspected the items. She was polite in a very insincere way trying to explain to me what she would accept and not accept, which was all very random. Was that really her natural voice?!! Also, when I brought my items in they were pressed and neatly folded but were given back to me not folded, bundled together and wrinkled. I have a much better experience with TheRealReal. read more

I've been to the old town location twice now and both times I was so uncomfortable due to the mean spirits of the young women working there. The first time I thought maybe I was just being overly self-conscious but this last experience tonight solidified that I will never return to this store. As soon as a customer left the two girls working started making fun of how the guy pronounced the name of whatever the designer was that his partner bought clothes of. And they carried on making fun of other coworkers, customers, friends of theirs, ex boyfriends, etc. I just felt so disheartened and uncomfortable and I hope one day, they realize that it's not really that cool or funny to tear other people down. Especially because half their conversation was how "funny" they are and need to do stand up and how they hate when other people think they're so funny when they're really not which was...ironic. I really never write reviews but this was something I've never experienced or wish to experience again. It made me so anxious that when I left they'd just make fun of me too, which I'm sure they did. I was looking for a good deal on resort wear and I found several, reasonably priced items at Current Boutique. I didn't find any of the problems that other reviewers cited. They had merchandise on the sidewalk and the tall, dark-haired sales associate approached me to say hello and assess my needs. She was friendly and gave good advice on navigating the layout of the store. I went inside and easily found the sections she referred me to. I found a dress, a blouse, and a pair of designer shoes at approximately 50% off. I was happy with my experience and I will be back. Will never set foot in this store again. I was unable to purchase an item I put on hold. Called in advance to see if the item was still there, and they literally tricked me into coming to the store, fully knowing the item was already sold. They claimed to have so many similar bags of that type that they couldn't identify the one I asked to hold, and said I had to come into the store to find it. I shop/consign here quite often and always want to hurry my visits along because the staff seems to have such a mean girl vibe every time. My last visit the employees stayed behind the register loudly gossiping - talking about coworkers, their hours and pay, etc. This really rubbed me the wrong way. Consignment practices are questionable too- never quite sure what their reasoning is on what they take and don't take. I enjoyed my *second* visit to this Old Town location of the local consignment chain, Current Boutique. Although I've been to the various other DC, VA, and the former MD location many times, this was my first time shopping in the Alexandria store in a long, long time! Immediately I can say that the staff at this store are so much nicer and more pleasant than the staff in all the other stores. These folks were welcoming, helpful (such as when I needed to get a dress of the mannequin), and patient (even when I decided to try on like 50 items that kept me in the fitting room until near closing time!). Even though most of what I tried on did not work for me, I thought the selection at this store was decent (and in some ways better than what's found at certain sister locations). All in all, I will definitely keep this place on my short list of stores to help me curate an amazing wardrobe at a fraction of the price! read more

I had been wanting to check out this place for a while thanks to the stuff they post on Instagram. When I finally went, my sister and I were very disappointed. Customer service was awful for the most part, and you can get brand new clothes from the actual brand stores for very similar prices, so I didn't think I was getting much of a bargain. The designer bags, however, were reasonably-priced. You get more of a bargain with the bags than with the clothes. None of the employees greeted me when I entered, not even when I approached the counter or walked past them multiple times. One of the employees had the nerve to say "Ugh, I really hate when customers..." and she was talking about me and the other customers, audibly. Very rude. It's like she didn't care what I thought. The only one that seemed to treat me with respect was the Asian employee. The others totally disregarded me. They were all busy gossiping. Needless to say, we walked out without a purchase. P.S. I wanted to like this store so badly. Last week, I was on the hunt for a vintage Coach crossbody and decided to look into Current Boutique as it is local to my area. It is also important to note that this was my first time in this shop. I look nothing like the girls who work there, and I feel like that might have something to do with my experience. When I walked into the shop, there were a couple of employees in the front and one towards the back; I was only able to identify the girl in the back was an employee because she had a lanyard on, as she never greeted me for the entire time I was in the shop. But she knew I was there because she was "fixing" and "rearranging" clothes near the racks that I was shuffling through. The two employees at the front did not greet me either. At first, I thought it was because they were talking about the one employee going on break. However, even after the one employee left, there was no greeting or asking if I was looking for anything specific. I was ignored until I went up and asked for help from one of the employees in the front. She was prompt with helping me and did end up assisting me in finding a Coach crossbody. This part is the only reason why this isn't a one-star review. It was kind of disappointing to be treated this way during my first time at Current Boutique. I have always found something very unique in Current. I know some customers find some of their merchandise priced a little high but they only take good authenticated merchandise to sell. I am impressed with this business. They have a good selection of clothing to choose from. I would like to return to shop at some point for new clothing. The reason I came to Current Boutique was to see if they would take my used evening gowns. They ended up not taking them, and I have to respect a business that takes the time to examine each article of clothing a person brings in for possible consignment. It's clear they care about what they take because all the clothing items I looked at while I waited for them to check mine were high-quality and clean. Very unprofessional store. Stay away. So in beginning of February i brought expensive Clarks shoes that were in original box, new for consignment. Receptionist up front - took it, said that item will be entered in my online system account next day And she does not know how much about it might be placed to sell. I waited a week- no notice in account of item i brought. Two weeks later i stop by to find out what happens, then new persons there have no idea where it is and they say that everyone is behind schedule and can not find item. I said i come back in a week to check on and hoping they can find it and enter in system. Week later - nothing. Two weeks later- i got email that they found my item, and i can stop by pick it up. I was on trip and said that they can post it to sell. Response was - "k it's best that you pick them up. We are putting fall/winter items into storage" Email was dated 25 Feb. i looked outside and appeared it was still winter. Lol So i coming to puck up the shoes with factory box ( i found someone who wants buy it, online), And manager Faith Wegener returning shoes, no original box that i brought it with. I asked where the box, she say" oh, its recycled". We recycle all boxes. What? No one told me about this Rule, Nor it can be found anywhere in their paper they give you or on website. I went to Current Boutique while wondering King Street with a friend on 12/13/15. I always enjoy a trip to this store. It is very clean and organized and you often forget that you are purchasing overstock or used items. I was greeted by the staff and asked if I needed help. It is hard to go to Current Boutique with needing something specific in mind but you can always count on the fact that they'll have dresses available. The only reason I cannot give this store a 5 star rating is that they don't tend to carry pants in a sizes larger than 12. I can often find tops that I like but have never been successful in finding a pair of pants. Had an awful experience here. I was in the store for around an hour shopping and trying on items, and finally Found a purchase I was happy with. When I went to go pay I mentioned the percentage signs that were all around the store stating that you get a discount on your full purchase, including 30% off of all purses. The cashier at the desk proceeded to tell me that the signs were old and I could get my clothes if I wanted to but they were not honoring the discounts that were posted. Here it is 2:30 in the afternoon, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that has inquired about the discount signs. I feel I may have been discriminated against, I will never return to the store ever again, and I will be following up to see what can be done about the discrimination I just received. What happened to this place? I used to live close by and was both a buyer and consigner. I still have a few fab pieces that were great finds and priced incredibly well from 4 or 5 years ago. There was always a great combo of average & staple brands (your J Crew, Loft, Banana pieces) and some high end brands and above all, the staff were always friendly. I was always told why certain consign pieces weren't taken or encouraged to bring certain ones back when the next season came. I had moved away and moved back just recently. I don't know if management has changed or what, but I am so disappointed with what this shop has become. I gave it a few chances because of course consignment can be a bit hit or miss. But, the prices have gotten ridiculous, even when compared to other similar consignments. It appears they're trying to force themselves into a somewhat higher end market and aren't accepting many of the brands/items they used to. When I attempted a drop off, not only was absolutely nothing taken either time (again, I get it and know there are times when that will happen, but the selection was quality and was floored not a piece either time was taken), I was simply told "We're not taking any of that." No thank you, no reasons, nothing. I've been in three or four times now and the staff have been beyond dismissive and rude for the most part. I also witnessed a few times staff putting items back on racks in vicinity of browsing folks and hardly ever was there a pleasant hello or excuse me. I love the idea of consignment and have since moved onto another place that reminds me of what Current Boutique used to be. Still, I wish the place right in walking distance in my neighborhood took a look at how things used to be run. Please invest in some customer service training for your staff. read more

This is my fave location so far, only because I've only been to the Clarendon one and this one. CONSIGNMENT This place gets me the most money for the clothes I no longer wear. It really is AMAZING!! I constantly bring in clothing items and bags, and often get hundreds for a bag full of items. You bring stuff in, they look through it while you look around, you fill out a form. Simple. You get to choose to get a check mailed to you, or use the money to pick up new stuff for yourself or your loved ones. BUYING I've gotten great things for great prices here, from bags to dresses, to jewelry. If something seems high, I don't buy it. Plain as that. Just this weekend I bought 5 clothing items for a little over $150. Seriously? This included a BCBG silk top, Banana silk dress, etc. Even better, I used the money on my account and still had $80+ left. I even had $35 MORE in my account than I had just 3 weeks before. Unreal. Sometimes you get really lucky with their bags. I mean, it's 1/3 the price. I got a black Michael Kors Hamilton in new condition for a little over $100. I get tired of my non-high-end bags fast, so this fits the bill perfectly. STAFF In general, they're helpful and friendly enough. I often get asked if they can start a dressing room for me. Just this past weekend, I got that treatment AND my clothing was brought to the front while I looked around some more. I really want to visit the other 2 stores, especially the Logan one. Current Boutique is a really cute consignment shop in Old Town Alexandria, right on King Street in the hustle and bustle of Old Town. There are plenty of other shops (including consignment shops) in the vicinity, but this may be my favorite consignment shop, of the ones I've visited in the Old Town area. I don't typically shop at consignment shops, but a couple of friends and I stopped by recently to browse their items during our socially distanced girls' day. This store does a great job at maintaining and enforcing social distancing -- everyone was wearing masks and staying at least 6 feet apart. This shop has a really large selection of items and I love that they organize different brand items in separate sections, for easier access. One of my friends and I both ended up getting Lilly Pulitzer dresses. I have plenty of Lilly dresses, which I usually buy new, and this was the first time I bought one at a consignment shop. I thought the white strappy Lilly dress I found at Current Boutique is a great find because it is a discontinued item on the Lilly website and is no longer available there. The item was very lightly worn and looked brand new! It was also just a fraction of the cost of what it would have been brand new from Lilly. Current has several locations in this area, but I've only been to this one and the one on 14th Street. The day I came to the Old Town Current boutique, there were a lot of great pieces. I prefer dresses and skirts to pants, so I found a plethora of those in the store. Everything's organized and arranged pretty well. Of course occasionally you still see a misplaced size 2 skirt in the size 6 section, but for the most part, everything's in its proper place. I think Current can be hit or miss. The day I came, it was luckily a hit. I found a fun black dress to wear when the weather's a little warmer and a tweed skirt to wear to work. These two items came out to be $35. They were also having a sale where all dresses were 10% off. While browsing, I found two Diane von Furstenberg dresses for $65 and $99 respectively, which is a steal compared to the retail price of DVF dresses. However, there were definitely some misses too. For the prices of some of these gently-used clothes, they were more than the retail price of the outfit at its new, peak condition. I am very happy with the black dress I found. The skirt isn't too bad either. They're both very classic pieces I can wear anytime. I didn't try on any of the clothes in the store because for some silly reason, I thought I could return it if it didn't fit (when the weather is cold, I get lazy and don't usually try on clothes). Naturally though, this is a consignment shop so "returns" are really consignments. OK, I really DO NOT get this place. I wanted to like it, like I want to like most things I seek out on purpose, but I just can't. I was hard pressed to find many "designer" pieces. Really, a boring Calvin Klein shift dress is NOT what I consider designer. Add to that the fact that they are pricing said used dress at $60, aka more than what I'd pay for a NEW CK dress at Ross or TJ Maxx, and I am straight up dumbfounded! There were quite a few F21 pieces in there, I'm assuming because it's a cheap brand people can easily identify and is deemed "acceptable" to mix with high end pieces, but I was confused as to why they'd even bother consigning a $10 dress. Again, maybe I am REALLY good at finding deals but even the $10 price tag seemed like too much to pay for a used cotton dress that I could find on sale new for well, $10 anyway. J Brand, 7 for all Mankind, and True Religion jeans for $60 to $100 dollars? Again, in my experience that is no huge discount for used clothing. I know a spot where I can get the same jeans for $20-$40 NEW... and judging by all the people who love Current Boutique I may have to keep it a secret because y'all will come blow it up. :) I found several pieces that were cuter and/or more interesting than the stuff I've mentioned, including a gorgeous vintage Donna Karan dress, but it was in terrible condition with pills and trace armpit stains. I can overlook some imperfections in a vintage piece, but when I'm getting dressed up that is hard to do. I'd rather wear a newer, cheaper piece than wear something in noticeably lesser condition because it is "designer." A lot of the stuff DEFINITELY wasn't dry cleaned first, which really surprised me. I would think a place like this would try harder to make sure the clothing doesn't look so... again, used. If it has a tag on it, you can be sure there's a premium on the price, even if that tag is attached with a safety pin - and really, I'm not that dumb. That is not a new item... who doesn't save their designer tags anyway? I do. :) Conclusion: if I thought about this place as a high-end, curated thrift store I could probably get more into it. To me, that is what you're getting. I will wear used clothes if I can pay used clothes prices. I like the fact that they have some vintage/older pieces in there, but the prices are nowhere near what this budget fashionista will put up with! I would be a fan if the staff was much more nicer. It is both a consignment shop and a boutique. In the front of the store there is the boutique clothing some kind of pricey, but very cute. Most of the prices in this area ranged from $60 - $98. The designer stuff was about $150. The rest of the store is the consignment stuff, which depends on what you are trying to spend for the day is ok. Still overall a bit pricey. There were some nice selections, but I found me a nice cute fall dress to go perfect with some boots. Most of the dresses appeared to be from Ya Los Angeles in the price range of $68.95-$88.95. The store also sold necklaces and earrings. In the back is where most of the consignment items are: jeans, tops, dresses, bags and shoes are neatly sorted. I went in here with very high hopes. I've heard tons of commercials on the radio for Current Boutique as the shop where the elite of DC drop of their old clothing. With that being said, I expected a lot of high quality name brand pieces. Unfortunately, I was seriously disappointed. As other reviewers have said, the front of the store has new clothing from various brands - nothing very exciting in this section. Also, lots of consignment shoes up front. This was actually the biggest surprise of the trip: really good brands like Kate Spade, Cole Haan, barely worn, and at a great price! The main consignment section is in the back, and the prices were just way to high to justify purchasing anything. Most of the jeans were in the $60-$80 range (which IMO is just way too high for second hand jeans). In addition, the brand selection was seriously lacking - I saw more Merona, Mossimo, and Loft than almost anything else. I'm pretty sure these pieces are not from DC's most fashionable women. I went in looking for a top to go with some shorts I just purchased from Anthropolgie further down the street. There were three girls working (a blond, a brunette being trained, and another brunette in an inappropriately short skirt). None of the employees greeted me as I came in (maybe they were busy, though it didn't appear that way, but it still felt unwelcoming as I came in). No one checked in with me while I was shopping to ask if they could help or what I came in for. More rudeness. One of the employees (inappropes short skirt employee) came back and spent the next five minutes telling the other girls how she had just talked to the DMV, yadda, yadda, yadda. I'm still browsing without being greeted or helped. I find a shirt to purchase (a little expensive for what it is - 15 dollars, signs of wear, from The Limited, not exactly a steal) and walk up to the counter. Short skirt asks me if I am ready, then tells me she will help me in a minute. Waiting. Waiting. She is on the computer. I'm waiting... The blond employee tells me she will take me at her register, says nothing to me during the transaction, and then hands me the bag with a monotone, "Here you go." Ugh. I left feeling brushed off and unwelcome in the store. Positives to be fair: They had some cute clothes, but I felt it was over-priced consignment. The location is great in the middle of Old Town. While I was there shopping. they were reviewing a consignors items and denied her items because it was not trendy enough. But yet they were ok selling 4 yr old Loubs for 450.00! The employees that work there are snooty and nosy. One girl that was steaming an item just kept staring at people as they passed by and then kept asking me if " I was ready", that's really rude and annoying, considering I had not even tried anything on yet. I am a fat person and in my mind, I really should try stuff on before I buy anything. The store has average, some really outdated items, that dont even qualify for the vintage category, just really much older labels that you could find at the salvation army for a lot less. Shop there if you dont mind being stared at and asked if you "were ready" every 2 minutes. Only reason I give it two star instead of one, being zero is not an option, I got a great Vince shirt for 34.00 but it smelled so bad I had to leave it in the trunk of my car till today so I can get it dry cleaned. The place is weird and creepy, not the decor, it is nice, but the people there, its as if they are either really fragile, or just so mean, they dont know how to be genuinely nice. Super cute consignment store with plenty of gorgeous, gently used clothing all laid out in perfect size order. They also seemed to be pretty even when it came to sizes - they do not neglect small, medium, or larges, there's plenty of selection for each. Four fitting rooms, each comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful but definitely not in-your-face-annoying. I wish they had more used handbags - almost all of the purses for sale were brand new and way pricey. They also have some new clothing in the front of the store, but that was a bit too pricey for my liking. Their denim selection was great! At the end of my rope in my attempt to find new jeans (I have not gone jeans-shopping in many years because I have a 10 sized set of hips and a 6 sized waist...), my husband remembered that Current Boutique has a whole rack of designer jeans on consignment behind their front section of cute (new) dresses. While I still failed to find anything, save a cute jean mini skirt, the employee directing the dressing rooms was completely sympathetic to my plight. She chatted away nicely while organizing clothing and people (it was a particularly busy Saturday, so I had to wait a couple minutes to get a room for both rounds of try-ons) and commiserated when I still failed to find an acceptable solution after round 2. The shop is small and a bit tight, but well-organized. Prices are reasonable to maybe a bit high for consignment (around $57 for jeans from brands like 7 for all Mankind, Citizens, Joe's Jeans, etc., but the $40 for the Marlow jean skirt seemed steep). Given the location smack in the middle of King St. in Old Town, though, the prices are not too surprising. I also love a lot of the shapes and styles of dresses they have up front, I just wish more of them were in natural fabrics (cotton, wool). It always seems like there's a lot of polyester going on... Regardless, we will probably continue to swing in here once every couple of months to check out the current items. read more

I've also purchased a few items, one being a J Crew skirt that I wear all of the time. They have a nice selection and I like looking around because you never know what you're going to find. I've consigned items here and shopped here, both experiences are hit or miss. I have bought things here, but I often walk out empty handed. The store is bright and clean and well organized. Towards the front they sell new clothes. In the used section, they have a lot of selection, and everything is in good condition, but the prices can be unreasonable. I like to buy used when possible, but I'm not willing to pay more for an Ann Taylor skirt than I would pay for it on sale, new, at Ann Taylor. That being said, sometimes you can find good deals, but you have to dig. If you're consigning, be prepared to leave with most of what you bring in, but that is true at most consignment shops I think. Usually I stop on my way to Goodwill, so it doesn't really bother me since I was going to donate everything anyway. read more

As I meandered through the clothes racks, I was warmly greeted and asked if I needed help. Earnestly, I replied, "yes!" (I do not have an eye for fashion and needed an outfit to wear to an event). Faith was a delight and lifesaver, indeed :) Faith's eye for detail, complimentary styles for my body type, and gracious feedback lead to me purchasing a vintage mod gold dress, thin-strapped chunky gold heels, and a 3/4 length sleeves aqua 1960's coat. I felt dazzling in the clothes and received many laudatory compliments on the ensemble Faith helped me select. I've been here several times to consign. They are pretty fair about it, but I'm always a little surprised at what they take vs. what they do not. Sometimes I'll have things in the "Goodwill pile" and decide to take them to Current first, and they snap those up. At the same time, they'll turn away practically unworn high-end items that I would think would actually sell. I don't tend to buy any pieces there, because they often seem a little pricey still. That, and the fact that when I spot something I like it's generally not my size. They do have some designer stuff, but most of it is more mid-range (J Crew, Banana, Anthro). I don't really understand why they take H&M and cheap things--they don't ever seem to be priced low enough that they are worth it. The new, boutique-y clothing at the front of the store is usually cute but looks cheap. Lots of polyester, kind-of Forever 21ish. I think I'll mostly stick to consigning. read more

Current Boutique is a consignment shop in Old Town with a good selection of gently-used, moderately-priced items. First things first, I would visit Current over Mint Condition as the items are priced more fairly, in better condition, and (no pun intended) more current. I visited this past weekend looking for a dress to wear to an upcoming wedding and was pleased with the variety of items that would have fit the bill. I felt that the shop was quite heavy on the dress end, which worked in my favor, but I'm not sure I would come back here if I were looking for a different item. The clothing was well-organized by size, which made sorting through the racks much easier. Overall, while it was a fine experience. read more

I just visited the Old Town location today, during lunchtime. The sales staff was very nice. Both very friendly, pleasant and helpful. And yes, the salesgirl did ask me to take a look around the store while she sifted through the clothes. Not only did this not bother me, but I would feel like an idiot hovering around the counter while she inspected what I was bringing to her store. Out of respect, anyone who wishes to consign her clothes here, owes the "inspector" a little privacy while going through clothes she will be selling at her store. Enough said. They took half of my stuff to sell. The other was more winter-based, so I understand that. Nevertheless, they didn't keep it to sell at a later; she handed the stuff back to me (and I can bring it back in once the weather cools). Understandable. The consignments: while some were very overpriced, they are all in very good condition. I bought a top while browsing. It was $16. Fairly priced. They have a lovely selection of handbags and shoes, too. I just didn't have the time to look through them all because my meter was about to expire (you do NOT want that to happen in Old Town -- trust me). All in all, it's a lovely, spacious and clean store. I will definitely be returning there. My advice if you want to consign: Go to the website and read their rules. They are VERY clear about all of that, and I was prepared when I went in today. No surprises here. read more

I've found this consignment shop to be very hit or miss. Sometimes I'll go in and find lots, other times I'll find nothing. Pros: Reasonably priced (usually), cute, seasonable clothing. They have a good selection of handbags, a smaller selection of shoes. The staff has been friendly to me and whenever I'm pulling stuff off the rack to try on they'll come by and ask if they can take it and start a dressing room for me - that is much appreciated. If you consign with them you'll get emails from time to time about special discounts (recently got an email for 20% off everything!). Cons: They're weird about what they consign. I think it's good to be picky but I once bought a dress there, didn't wear it, and brought it back to for consignment (there are no returns) and they didn't want it. Seems like if you accepted it once for consignment you'd accept it again... Some of their stuff seems a bit overpriced, but I think this is when they're basing the price on the designer label. Understandable but even if it's a designer label it still needs to be the current fashion. Overall it's a good consignment store. It's well organized and clean. If I find something I like but it's overpriced I don't feel the smallest bit of remorse for putting it back on the shelf. read more
