I needed a…read morerelaxer retouch and a different shape to my hair so I easily rescheduled with my last stylist Sharell through their booking tool (mangomint.co), paid my deposit, and set my appointment. Or so I thought. I was devastated when Heather (great receptionist btw) reached out to me a day or two later to tell me that Sharell was no longer with the salon. *Cue the violin* BUT God had something better in store because she encouraged me to switch my services to be done by Nykeria. I really like this salon and I didn't want to start the search all over. The handoff was seamless. Great decision. Please understand that what I'm about to say is overwhelming positive: this wonderful woman is a BEAST in the hair game. Full of life. Great communicator and hair educator. Wonderful with her hospitality. Treated me with gentility but also with confident hands. She did multitask on another client during my appointment, but I was A-OK with that given that I wasn't her original client and it didn't really burden my appointment's timeline. I appreciated the thoroughness and attention to detail nonetheless. LOVE the cut. I wish it didn't happen the way that it did, but I'm SURELY satisfied with her as my stylist moving forward. Extra perks: delicious and hot green tea served by Heather upon entry, a buzzy salon environment that doesn't get too loud yet also plays good music, complimentary WiFi, toilet seat covers with a clean restroom, a changing room with clean smocks.... WOW.

Truly incredible. Everyone here is exceptionally talented. I get my highlights done by Graham at…read morethe Midtown location, and he never fails to do the best job I've ever seen. He's super friendly and is so great at conversation without being overwhelming. I've vented about a bunch of random problems and he's so insightful about everything. I really enjoy those conversations. Graham has an intern named Juniper who is also amazing. She'll typically be the one to blow out my hair after highlights. She is so sweet and fun to talk to. And you can tell that she really cares about doing a good job. And she does do a good job. And shoutout to Rob at the Midtown location for giving me bangs. I don't think I would love them so much if he weren't the one who cut them. They have free bangs trimmings here, so whenever I get my highlights done, I ask Rob to trim my bangs, and he does. He's very thoughtful about cutting hair. Especially with bangs. He will ask for pictures, and if you can't find any, he will pull up his own pictures on his iPad to help you figure out what you want. He also is an artistic genius and will recommend things that work with your facial structure better. I thought I wanted curtain bangs but he recommended a more straight cut of bangs, and I am so thankful he did. If you want a good haircut that makes you look like you can afford the best of the best (aka Rob), you need to see Rob. Even when my hair isn't blow dried or straightened or whatever, it looks amazing when I wake up and go to sleep. He gave me layers once and, if you'll believe it, it changed my social life for the better. Also he's very good at getting people to talk about their lives. Inquisitive and talented. If you have your own strong preferences and he recommends otherwise, you can still tell him what you prefer and he'll happily do it, but he knows so much about what looks good on different people, so I'd definitely listen to him. He's done my little teenage brothers' hair before and they appreciate him a lot too, which says a lot because they're picky teenage boys. They come home from the appointments with their heads held a little higher in confidence. I don't think it's possible to leave Van Michael Salon without your head held a little higher.

She told me I'd be meeting with Hannah, and gave me a cup of coffee and led me to the chair. First off, Hannah made me feel super comfy, as I hadn't been to a salon in over 3 years. I have fine curly/coily hair I hacked while in lockdown, and Hannah fixed me riiiiight up. Quickly. With ease. Us curly folks already know the fears of salons, but Hannah was confident, super super sweet, and so good at what she does. The owner was there too, which I thought was really cool. Overall, I was made so welcome (even though I called literally 20 minutes before I came in), the salon was so cute and cozy, and I left feeling like a million bucks! Will so definitely be back to visit Hannah in a couple months for a trim and maybe some color! Her hair was the hottest pink, and inspired me to get some color goin again.

I would still recommend this place for color, and the products they use are the best. With that said, this review is strictly for the haircut (3/5) and the color is still a (5/5) Do your research on haircuts. I hadn't considered that everyone has a different cutting technique and the description of the haircut that you've been getting consistently with one stylist may not be interpreted the same way by another stylist :( After the initial cut, one side was about 1-2 inches shorter than the other side. So then the end result was my hair being much shorter than I wanted in the first place. Much of it was dry cutting which can be so hit or miss depending on the stylist, and some texturing at the ends (which to me just made it worse... I prefer thick sharp ends) Love the color and I kept saying that but haircut wise, the more I look at it the worse I feel about it and it just complete takes away from the color since I will prob keep it up until it grows out. In my opinion, It's shaggy and just does not look sleek like after past haircuts. Also peep the long forgotten piece of hair in the back (but the front is the shaggy part I don't like)

I've had the unfortunate experience of hair nightmares when I first moved to other cities. Somehow, the trend always seems to be that the second salon I try ends up being the perfect one for me...and Atlanta has been no exception to this. I first tried another salon nearby, which left me totally unhappy. They charged me a TON of money for serious roots and the tiniest of trims...which altogether took well over 3 hours even though my hair is barely past my ears?! Yikes. Anyhow, you get the point. I would have to return to hunting for another salon. In a fit of desperation, I did try a box dye to fix my roots but...it did not end well. I called around town, but stylists were either full up for the weekend or unwilling to book me until they scheduled a separate color-correction consult session. I then came across Urban Evolution, and it seemed to fit the bill: a local salon, all the cut-color-smoothing services that I like to use, reasonable pricing, quality products, and a range of stylists to pick from. Best of all: I was able to snag an appointment the next day with Erin! I later discovered that she was the salon owner. She did an amazing job! I never felt judged, rushed, or not listened to. She asked a lot of excellent questions, taking the time to really understand my hair and styling preferences. She was very easy to talk to throughout the appointment. I left feeling like myself again (only with better hair)! I can breathe a sigh relief knowing that I've found "my" salon here in Atlanta. I highly recommend Urban Evolution to anyone, and also definitely recommend Erin! I'm a very happy client. To close out my review, here are some of the pros and cons of Urban Evolution... PROS: They have online booking, which was a huge plus for me as I work a very busy job and don't always have time to call during business hours. I also like that their website has a "match" quiz to help our you with a stylist, which I've never seen before but very much appreciated. A very cool feature! The salon itself is beautiful, and the staff are professional and super friendly. I can tell that everyone goes the extra mile to make clients as comfortable and cared for as possible. They always offer me a beverage, for example. At my last visit, I was bemoaning how I could never figure out how to style my hair wavy. Not only did Erin show me, but she had another staff member film her doing it on a few sections of my hair, all the while explaining each step, and then texted me the video so I can use it to guide me at home. They use and sell quality products. They have Oribe and Davines, both of which are fantastic lines. I've started using Oribe Silverati shampoo/conditioner at Erin's suggestion and I'm now obsessed - it's really helped to improve the health of my hair (I do a lot of coloring and heat styling). The salon schedule allows for evening and weekend appointments, which is very helpful for folks who may work busy jobs and not be able to come in during traditional 9-5 weekday hours. The salon is situated on a street with a lot of yummy restaurants and cafes, so you could always come meet a friend before or after for brunch, lunch, or cocktails! I've tried several at the recommendation of Erin and other salon staff, and all have been excellent. I love supporting local business, so I see this as a "pro." CONS: I'd you've read this far and you're still not convinced, I guess I could say that the only potential "con" is maybe the parking. They have street parking, or for a few bucks you can use the parking lot for the woodworking shop across the street. But even then, to me this is a pretty weak "con" because I've never had any trouble finding a spot (I've literally parked right in front of the salon the last several times that I've been there). Go try Urban Evolution...like me, you won't regret it!

She cut way too much off the top and the fade quality was sub par at best. When I got home I noticed the hair up top was all different lengths too which is definitely not what I wanted. Now I need to wait for it to grow back in before seeing someone who knows what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
