I came here last week for a last minute haircut. Called over the phone and rushed over to be met by the person i spoke to over the phone who was so so nice the moment I stepped in (I'm so sorry I didn't get her name!!) She told me I'd be meeting with Hannah, and gave me a cup of coffee and led me to the chair. First off, Hannah made me feel super comfy, as I hadn't been to a salon in over 3 years. I have fine curly/coily hair I hacked while in lockdown, and Hannah fixed me riiiiight up. Quickly. With ease. Us curly folks already know the fears of salons, but Hannah was confident, super super sweet, and so good at what she does. The owner was there too, which I thought was really cool. Overall, I was made so welcome (even though I called literally 20 minutes before I came in), the salon was so cute and cozy, and I left feeling like a million bucks! Will so definitely be back to visit Hannah in a couple months for a trim and maybe some color! Her hair was the hottest pink, and inspired me to get some color goin again. read more

Rachel has moved out of state unfortunately and after a recent visit figured I would update my review. I would still recommend this place for color, and the products they use are the best. With that said, this review is strictly for the haircut (3/5) and the color is still a (5/5) Do your research on haircuts. I hadn't considered that everyone has a different cutting technique and the description of the haircut that you've been getting consistently with one stylist may not be interpreted the same way by another stylist :( After the initial cut, one side was about 1-2 inches shorter than the other side. So then the end result was my hair being much shorter than I wanted in the first place. Much of it was dry cutting which can be so hit or miss depending on the stylist, and some texturing at the ends (which to me just made it worse... I prefer thick sharp ends) Love the color and I kept saying that but haircut wise, the more I look at it the worse I feel about it and it just complete takes away from the color since I will prob keep it up until it grows out. In my opinion, It's shaggy and just does not look sleek like after past haircuts. Also peep the long forgotten piece of hair in the back (but the front is the shaggy part I don't like) read more

My appointment with Rachel was anything short of amazing. I highly recommend this place! When you first arrive, park in the lot with the reflexology place and ru sans. Walk towards the empty real estate building towards Monroe and make a left. You'll be greeted by a women that's a little bit detached but don't let that deter your experience. This cozy facility creates a fun and special experience for every one. Rachel was super fun and attentive to my hair needs. I just got my hair done by Britne last night and I LOVE my new hair!!!!!! I've been blonde all my life, but I wanted to try something new, so I became a brunette!! Britne figured out exactly what I wanted and she added in some blonde highlights that I wanted by using an awesome technique called "flamboyage"!! I was there for at least 3 hours, but Britne did not rush the process at all and she was so much fun to talk to!! Area 4 is a great new salon in Midtown. I followed my much beloved colorist, cutter and stylist Kristin Mealor here from a salon in downtown Decatur. Kristin is the best and can do it all. She sorta kinda persuaded me to go red and to keep my hair above the shoulders - so glad I went along! I get compliments on my hair frequently, and my cut works even in the awful Atl humidity. Ok, I'm a Kristin addict, but I love her new salon "home" too. Area 4 is a very cute place - very sleek and clean. Great magazines by the way. Very sweet people and filled with hair talent. I really like the Pureology hair products they sell - super smooth and Red to maintain my gorgeous (only my hairdresser knows for sure) color. To find it, turn onto Monroe from PIedmont (away from Ansley Mall). It's in a building that's just past HobNob cafe, same side. Pull in the driveway (realtor on the corner) and walk toward Piedmont on the sidewalk facing Monroe. They are tucked back there and worth looking up. read more

I have visited this salon twice and was disappointed both times. The first time I went there, they gave me a haircut which was so bad possibly because they don't have any training in styling curly hair. I totally forgot about it and booked another appointment after almost a year of first appointment. I asked while making appointment whether they have some time to do partial highlights. They denied and I was fine with making an appointment for hair cut. When I was in the chair, the stylist said that we can do a strand or two if you want. I agreed and then she rushed through the whole process like freaking someone was going to die leaving no time for color to process. Please don't take the job if you cannot commit to it. Never going back there again! And also, when your own stylist is done, some other stylist would magically appear and compliment about how good it looks. This happened on both appointments. I just got out of this awesome salon. I was greeted by my stylist William with a smile. The first thing he did was sit me down in his chair and asked me about my hair and what I wanted. He then washed my hair and explained to me which products he was using, which I really appreciated. As he cut and styled my hair we engaged in conversation, but he remained focused on my hair and teaching me about what he was doing as he went along. William was wonderful!! I've been stuck in a rut lately and I can honestly say after my experience I felt beautiful... like old school movie star beautiful! The salon was so cute and chic! Amazing! Charity did a color correction and cut for me. Best cut I've ever had! The owner is present and consults with the stylists, the atmosphere is beautiful and inviting. Clean floors, clean bathrooms, everything was immaculate. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their day and their time there. Great products and good deals on them! Everything from the booking to scheduling my next appointment was wonderful. The receptionist (I'm sorry I forgot her name!) is a sweetheart too. The pricing is not over the top although I'd pay much more for the excellent service I received. When I left Charity gave me a little paper that had all the information and products that she used. Charity is the sweetest, most talented stylist and is always up for the color challenges and styles I throw her way. I've been looking for a good hair salon after moving back to Atlanta so I'm very happy I stumbled onto Area 4. The salon is in the in the same shopping center as Rusan's, Top Spice, Varuni Napoli but on the Monroe Drive side (read: facing Monroe Drive so after you park in the main shopping center, walk around to the front of the building off Monroe and you'll find it). I got pretty lost looking for 1536 but I called and they were very helpful. I had Maria for my cut and she was great. The salon fit me in same day (I called around 10am on a Saturday and they got me in a 1pm that afternoon). The place was very cute, service very friendly and I barely had to wait once I arrived (which I appreciated). We briefly spoke about what I was looking for and then she washed / conditioned my hair. One of the best parts was her head massage. Really took her time and did an amazing job. I don't know if its weird to judge hair salons by the quality / time invested in the head massage but I got spoiled by my favorite salon Philly where they had assistants who's job was to wash the hair before the stylists cut and I just appreciate places that take the time to give you a great experience from beginning to end. Anyways, I'm not sure what product Maria used but I really liked them. It smelled great and made my hair very soft. She was also very fast and efficient with the cut. Took the high level guidance I gave and applied her expertise to give me a cut I really enjoyed. It's clear she takes great care and joy in her job and I really appreciated her listening to me but also being in the expert in what would look best. I've only been here once so will need to go back to decide if its a consistently great experience but definitely recommend now with an anticipation that I'll update this to a 5 star soon! read more

I really wanted to love this place but I have to say be very very cautious and meticulous about what products these stylists apply to your hair. I had an appointment with Kristen who washed, brushed and blew out my hair. She applied a shampoo, conditioner and a mist to my hair. Then she proceeded to blow dry my hair on high heat which reacted with the chemicals in the products she applied, especially the mist. My original silky, fine hair looked normal, however, felt super dry and became very frizzed and had a static-like feel from the amount of chemical protein built up throughout the remainder of the day. I proceeded to sleep in the hair and the following day, it resulted in giant, massive lumps of damaged matted, dried, frizzed hair that looked nearly tangled to the point where it cannot be fixed (think of Tangled the movie, but worst). I was in tears looking at myself in the mirror. I then consulted with Le Salon who tried their best to detangle the matted, frizzed hair and de-mat and de-tangle only do the fronts. I was told I would have to cut up to shoulder length (which is a nightmare to me.) I eventually went to Jung Studio and she had to take 3.5 hours to gently detangle my hair to its original, former state. I now have to apply a hair treatment in order for the molecules to restabilize and rebond the structure of my hair again. This review does not reflect on the stylists' abilities to cut hair, however, I want to inform everyone to very carefully look and review at ingredients and chemical makeup of products before allowing any random application and blowout to something as beautiful and fragile as your hair. The products she used could have not been undone if I did not choose to take proper action to undo breakage and damage. read more

My first visit to Area 4 and Jessica changed my life! For the first time I LOVE my hair cut. I'm not kidding when I say my last haircut left me in tears but here I am 4 days later still obsessed. I didn't have any pictures to really go off of, she just listened to me ramble and not only was able to give me the perfect cut, but color as well. I told her I had never colored my hair and was hesitant to because I wasn't great about regular appointments and didn't want obvious root grow out. The solution was some lightening highlights and an all over glaze that really just enriched my look without completely changing my color or style. I have REALLY thick hair and not everyone can cut it well, but Jessica can and did. The first time I went to Robbi was about 5 years ago at Adore Hair Studio when I decided to get bangs for the first time in my life (a huge commitment!!). As a college freshman a bad haircut could ruin me, so I knew Great Clips wasn't going to cut it (literally). Robbi offered some suggestions and I let her do her thing, even though I was slightly terrified. I don't think I've ever gotten so many compliments after a haircut. The bangs were exactly how I wanted them to look. I've been a devoted client ever since. So when she told me she was opening her own salon in Midtown, I knew I had to follow her. Area 4 is located near the intersection of Monroe and Piedmont, near Hobnob. It was a little hard to find the first time I visited, but if you're on Monroe going toward the Trader Joe's, you'll see it facing the street on your right after Hobnob. There's parking on the side of the building as well as in the adjoining lot with RuSan's. The inside is very spacious and has a modern, loft-like atmosphere. I don't know the other stylists at Area 4, but I highly recommend Robbi. She's really nice and has always been professional. I would trust this woman with any drastic hair change. I'm pretty certain that if it doesn't look good after Robbi's through with it, my face wasn't meant for that hairdo. read more

I was able to get in right away to see Jo (I just moved to the area and was looking for a new salon). My first impression of the salon is that it is very hip. I loved the vibe it gave off. Jo offered me a refreshment while I waited and this is another good impression. As far as meeting Jo and talking with her; she is amazing! She not only is gifted but loves the science of hair. She is very patient and listens perfectly. Not only was her concern about the health of my hair she also taught be a couple of things with styling that I can do by myself quickly. First off I have to say that I completely love this place. I've never been one to pledge my loyalty to a stylist, much less a salon, until stumbling upon Area 4 (and consequently, Jo). Their playlists are killer in that house-meets-old-school-hip-hop kind of way, which sets the mood instantly. This salon isn't over-the-top flashy, they aren't shoving brands in your face, and you aren't left feeling less-than by a barrage of photographed malnourished models who stay afloat with gravity-defying hair. Area 4 has turned "chill" into an art form, while managing to maintain a humble sense of style. It's edgy without being pretentious. And if that isn't enough, they're hardcore behind the eco-friendly front. My stylist, Jo, is a master at her craft. Definitely spring for a shampoo/condition session, because this woman has the fingers of a goddess. You collapse into her chair thinking you're here for a wash and nice trim - but you quickly realize how wrong you are when Jo dances her fingers over your scalp, and kneads away the ache you never realized was there. I'm telling you, it's amazing. Jo herself is intelligent without being caty, and listens acutely to your ideas. If need be, or if you aren't really sure what you want, she won't hesitate to offer her own insight into what may work best for you. You'll hit the pavement of Monroe Drive sporting a collaborative art piece instead of...well.. trimmed hair. I can't emphasize enough how much this woman rocked my sad, scruffy, box-dyed locks. Area 4 Salon provides a very professional and friendly atmosphere. Just moving to the Atlanta area I needed to find someone that could cut and color my thick hair. I have had bad hair cut experiences in the past and I wanted to find someone who would work with me to find a cut and color that fit my face and hair type. Looking at recommendations on Yelp I decided to try Area 4 Salon. My 1st appointment the stylist asked me what I had in mind, then she took the time to go over what would work and would not work for me. After the cut she showed me how I could maintain the style at home (blow dry/flat iron and styling product techniques) During my appointment I did not feel rushed (I asked questions and talked through concerns). The staff was always pleasant asking me if I wanted a refreshment (the vibe in the salon is always upbeat and staff works like team helping each other out). Area 4 Salon has lots of treatment and product options. (Some which were offered but were not pushed on me, which is nice.) I have now been going to Area 4 Salon for almost a year and the staff is still are very friendly, professional and accommodating. We discussed my expectations in the beginning and she made sure she understood exactly what I wanted and communicated what the end result would be. I've been going to Area 4 for about a year now; I must say I'm super happy I decided to take the plunge. After really mediocre hair results in several salons in the city after my good friend and usual stylist left her old spot, I found Tina here and I have been super happy. The service is friendly, the hair products they sell are awesome- I'm very happy with the Davine's stuff I've bought- and finally, FINALLY... someone is totally comfortable with giving a woman a stylish, interesting mohawk and not trying to make it something else, like a modified pixie cut. I followed Jessica (reluctantly due to geography only) from Decatur to Midtown. So glad I did. Jessica is a great stylist. She has creative ideas, helps me improve the lame ideas I suggest, and offers fun new things to try that make my hair look great! For example - the deep conditioning treatment - what a treat! My hair feels soft like baby hair every time I get it!!! She also does my teenage son's hair - he loves her too! The salon is very nice, open, bright and comfortable. All of the stylists are very friendly and easy going. They offer a great range of products, and everyone is great about making truly useful suggestions. I have been going to Robbie for 6 years. Like other reviewers, I saw her at Adore in Inman Park. I can't recommend her enough to friends and family. I appreciate the time she spends before the appointment to talk about what cut I'm going to get and review the 10 pictures i has pinned on Pinterest of similar cuts. If you are a product girl - Robbi is the person to talk to. She always gives me great tips on new brushes or styling products. The new salon is beautiful. It's simple, clean, and well laid out. There were 3 other clients in the salon getting various treatments and the salon wasn't noisy or cramped (which i felt was an issue at Adore). The location is tough during rush hour, but there is plenty of parking in the lot behind the salon. There are 2 entrances to that lot - 1 on Piedmont and another on Monroe. read more

I've been meaning to leave a review for this salon for a while so I apologize to the stylists for such late praise! I went to Area 4 with the hopes of ringing my VERY pink hair to a more normal shade. I didn't have high hopes, because I know that corrective coloring usually takes a few visits, but I was pleasantly surprised with my outcome. Robbi is so wonderful! First of all, she came in on her day off, because she knew I was in a time crunch. I had just received a job offer in California and needed nothing shirt of a miracle ASAP! Hew sweet mother was even hanging out in the salon, because she had been in town visiting. Robbi was so patient with my difficult hair. She knew exactly what to do to get my brightly colored hair back to a natural color. I have to admit that I walked into this salon with very little hope. ( The complimentary mimosas took the edge off nicely.) Robbi (with the help of equally awesome Pike!) performed magic that day! I left with very natural looking dark blonde hair! And it felt so healthy and soft to boot! I would trust my hair in these girls' hands any day! If only they would move and follow me to the West Coast! The salon itself is very modern and comfortable.
