There are not that many options in the area and we decided to take the main house (they have the main house that sleeps four) and a guest house. We shared it with another couple who was also attending the nearby wedding and I remember it coming out to less than $100 night per couple. The house was charming, but rustic. It is a updated 19th century house that is cozily decorated. We never met the hosts, the Haydons, but they left us notes, fresh banana nut bread and a well stocked pantry and fridge for snacks, continental breakfast items and assorted beverages. We shared a spacious bathroom that had plenty of linen, shampoos, lotions, soaps and a hair dryer if you needed them. We were there in high summer during one of the worst droughts in history. So the grounds were a little scorched. However, they were still beautiful with graceful oaks and stone fences. The AC worked hard to keep up with the heat during the day, but at night the temperature was comfortable. There was a TV, DVD player and games, but we were otherwise occupied with the festivities to enjoy any of these amenities. We came and went as we pleased and pretty much had the run of the place. After the wedding we invited another couple over for drinks and we stayed up chatting. They were from the area and never had heard of the place. They were really surprised how cozy the house was and well maintained. We definitely recommend it and will use the Homestead if we need accommodations in the area again.

We were attending a wedding in Driftwood and thought this place was to expensive but once we looked at what was near there (nothing) and the price of the econo-lodge it turns out not be expensive at all. The private lake was great for swimming, kayaking, fishing etc. The tennis court and the basket ball hoop kept the young at heart busy and rest of us lounged in the spacious, roomy, cozy home. The three living areas are great and we never felt crowded. The home is like something from Southern Living. It is so relaxing. The owner left us some of his home made moonshine and a bunch of cigars for the men for outside use.

Every detail of this place is absolutely gorgeous. My husband and I were married here in April 2024 and we seriously talk about this venue and all of its magic at least once a week since then. We wanted to have a small intimate gathering that had a very organic look. In the spring, this place really comes to life, the birds, the butterflies, the way the light shines through the windows in La Casa De Joy, everything felt like a fairytale. The venue is tucked away in a sweet lakeside neighborhood as well so the drive there in the spring is country roads lined with wildflowers and bluebonnets which was an added plus. We rented the entire venue and had some guests stay in the other houses on the property while we stayed in La Casa De Joy and everyone absolutely loved it. We heard nothing but positive things from every guest. Such a unique venue. Not to mention, Travis, the property manager was an absolute delight to work with. Really so so kind and understanding of our wants and needs and was truly there to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be coming back to relive our wedding day each year with a stay at La Casa De Joy. Truly such a gem of an experience. My highest recommendations to anyone looking to relax, reconnect, breathe and just be present. Go to this place!!

We stayed there from Thursday April 23rd - Sunday April 26th 2026. It was like living in an Italian Villa and you would be hard pressed to find a more gracious host and chef than Justin anywhere ! He's been doing this for over twenty years ! We arrived at the Lakehouse around 3:00 pm and were immediately welcomed by Justin who carried our bags to our upstairs Medici Room and gave us a tour of the house. Justin also provided us with excellent tips on things to see and do in the area, as well as suggestions for restaurants for lunches and dinners. Thursday evening, we ate dinner on the outside patio of Gennaro's Trattoria where we enjoyed their Authentic Italian Kitchen. Friday morning, we enjoyed a delicious omelet breakfast in the Lakehouse breakfast room overlooking Canyon Lake and great conversation with other guests. Following breakfast, we took a leisurely drive down River Road to the quaint town of Gruene (that's pronounced "Green"). There, we had lunch at the Gruene River Grill, followed by a relaxing stroll through the many antique and boutique shops in Gruene, and a visit to Gruene Hall, Texas' Oldest Dance Hall. We then returned to Canyon Lake and enjoyed some merlot wine and cheese and crackers (which we had brought with us) on the Lakehouse's covered outdoor patio overlooking Canyon Lake. We had dinner at Canyon Lake's Wildflour Artisan Bakery & Grill which offers a full menu. On Saturday morning, we enjoyed a delicious Belgian waffle breakfast in the Lakehouse breakfast room. Following breakfast, we drove to the town of Blanco and visited Arnosky's Flower Farm. After walking around the beautiful flower fields, we bought some beverages and snacks inside Arnosky's barn and sat in the chairs on the barn's covered back porch patio overlooking the flower fields, humming bee feeders, and bird feeders. You could sit there a long time as the scene is ever changing. From Arnosky's, we drove to Tillman's Cabin Resort in Blanco and ate lunch at the Rio Blanco Café overlooking the Blanco river. After lunch, we drove to the original 1885 Blanco Court House in downtown Blanco where we took a leisurely self-guided tour of the courthouse. We also visited Blanco's many antique and boutique shops. Saturday evening, we attended the 4 pm mass at Canyon Lake's St. Thomas The Apostle Church. At the end of mass, we witnessed one of their congregants step up to the lectern with the pastor's approval, talk about what the bible says about a wife, ask the lady in the front row next to us to step forward, and then bent down on one knee and asked her to marry him in front of the entire church congregation, and she said "YES" and they kissed. What a beautiful proposal ! Following mass, we had dinner on the outside patio of Canyon Lake's Elio's Osteria e Pizzeria. On the evening drive back to the Lakehouse, we saw lots of white tail deer in the neighborhood. On Sunday morning, we enjoyed a delicious scone and quiche breakfast in the Lakehouse breakfast room. We again enjoyed conversing with the other guests as we had every day, and then we packed and headed home. Sorry for the length of this review but my wife and I thought readers might enjoy hearing about what one can do from The Lakehouse Bed and Breakfast at Canyon Lake. The Lakehouse is centrally located in the Texas Hill Country and opens this area up to you like a box of chocolates!

Day 1 included orange scones and a delicious zucchini fritatta and roasted potatoes - incredible. Day 2, by special request, included strawberries Romanov and eggs benedict with sausage. I made a reservation over a week ahead of time to celebrate the birthday of one of my friends and…read morepaid the $25 deposit to hold the reservation. Our reservation was on June 11th at 7:30. We arrived at 7:32. When our party of four arrived, we were told there was no table for us. Even though there were two tables available in the dining room. We were told that those tables were reserved for someone else and we could not sit at that table. We were told that it was another reservation for 730. We were not offered any accommodation, even though there were four barstools at the bar open, except to sit outside on the patio in the 90° heat. We refused and decided to find a different place to eat. It was very shocking that they treated us in this manner as I have been a guest at the Wayback multiple times and never had this experience. It was almost like it was a prank. We went back to the car to find another restaurant to celebrate my friend's birthday. While we are making arrangements for that, I realized that I had paid $25 for this reservation that they were not honoring and I wanted to make sure I requested that be returned. I went back into the dining room at 7:50 and the table for four that they refused to sit us at was still available. Amy, the young lady who said she was "like a manager", treated us as though we had done something wrong. When I went back in and requested my $25 back from her she made some comment regarding my refund tied to whether we gave them a bad review for the incident (one of my friends as we walked out of the dining room, said she would be leaving a review). I called the main number the following day and spoke with Vicky. Vicky told me she wanted to look into the situation and figure out what had happened. I told her the intention of my call was to get my the deposit refunded. She called me back a few hours later explaining it was their fault. She said that there was another person in the restaurant that had my same name and they wanted to move from the patio to the dining room and the staff gave away our reservation to that party. Understandable. She was apologetic and told me she would take care of the refund and also offered to send me $50 gift card through Toast. I'm not even really sure how that works or what that is, but I really just wanted to close out the whole deal. No refund or Gift Card ever showed up. I know sometimes that can take a little bit of time so I waited until the 25th and called back. No one answered. I left a message and did not get a returned call. I called again at about 11 AM on the 26th again no answer. I did not leave another message. I called again around 4pm. Amy, the young lady we dealt with on the evening of the event, answered the phone. She said the people in the office had already left for the day and she would take my phone number and name and somebody would call me on Monday. She called me back about 30 minutes later telling me she needed the card number that the reservation was made under. I didn't really feel comfortable giving that to her so I just said I would wait to hear from the office staff on Monday. Well no one called on Monday. No one called on Tuesday either. I called in on Wednesday and spoke with Vicky again. She said she had gone out of town and doesn't know why the refund was not taken care of. She said she was needed some time to look into it. I asked her to call me back when she had some resolution. I did not hear back from Vicky but today I got an email from toast that a $25 refund to my credit card had been run.... and I never provided my card number to have that refund issued. I do not take any pleasure in writing a bad review for a business. I waited to write this review until there had been full resolution so I gave them plenty of opportunities to communicate clearly and make this situation right. It kept getting fumbled which leaves me with the impression that they don't care about customer service.

While mistakes happen, what was most frustrating was how the situation was handled. The staff showed little concern for the inconvenience caused and made no meaningful effort to make things right. Instead, we were essentially left with no options and had to leave. A reservation is an agreement between the restaurant and its guests. When the restaurant fails to honor that commitment, the least customers should expect is an apology and a genuine effort to resolve the problem. Unfortunately, we received neither. The lack of customer service, accountability, and professionalism was disappointing and left a very negative impression. We had been looking forward to our evening, but instead walked away feeling like our business was not valued at all.
