The 3rd star is for the staff. They are al so nice and helpful. The biggest complaint is that there is one tiny ac vent in the room and no thermostat. So, it gets hot at night. If you're in your room you leave the door open to allow the cool air from the hallway to drift into your room. The rooms are terrible, relatively clean, but dilapidated. Nowhere to put anything. The single antique, worn out dresser has a TV on it. There s zero counter in the bathroom, a pedestal sink, a small medicine cabinet with a mirror and one electric plug in the light fixture. The pool is refreshing but needs a lot of work! The grounds are really pretty. This place has SO much potential but it's clear that the owners aren't putting anything back into the business. The location of the office is a bit confusing if you've never been there before. You have to do a bit search and discovery, it's located behind the pool. We were in room 15, easy to find close to the back door and the parking lot. We understand it's an old building but to keep it running we think there should be more priority to fix things in and out the hotel. The flooring is uneven, fix the wiring or whatever so the rooms can have their own microwave or small fridge. I don't even remember this being on the air BNB listing... I didn't find out till after we paid and got the name of the location and went to their website to find out. You don't have any control over the AC they keep it cold cold. I feel like that's the only thing they fix around there. The shower heads could be replaced, pours out hard. Only bonus, it's nice and hot that's what I love about a good shower. The beds are comfy and warm, you definitely need warm bed with that AC. The property is cozy. And the staff were friendly. We will be back, it's budget friendly and now we know what to expect. read more

Overall a great stay ! Place is obviously older , which is the cool part, keep it retro! . Access to the awesome swimming hole on the property ! My first thought was ok why are there earplugs in the bathroom (I'm a light sleeper) but throughout the night I didn't hear anything ! Beds were comfy , and the best part THE SHADES KEPT THE LIGHT OUT IN THE MORNING! after a longgggggg day at the swim hole the kids and family were exhausted, so getting some sleep was nice ! We were disappointed the pool actually was closed on Mondays as our kids wanted to check it out but we knew this ahead of Booking time and was hoping maybe just this special Monday it wouldn't be closed lol . We didn't get to check out the tavern as we don't get to do as many things on our own with children now but my wife walked in there during checkout and said it looked awesome. We will def be back here as this swim hole is one of our favs ever ! It sounded like they were attempting a pizza place there as the front desk worker stated he kinda comes and goes as he pleases, I woulda like to check that out as there was no breakfast . Horrible 4-night stay. Dogs barking when owners left them locked up in rooms while they went out. Very loud argument in the hall at 11 o'clock at night that went on for almost an hour. The Lodge was a nice little getaway, just an hour drive from Austin. Our family really enjoyed the cleanliness of the lodge, the nice staff and the water, which was just a 3 minute walk from our room. Having a 12 tap bar down by the swimming hole was a huge perk! The Lodge is very budget friendly, too. Beautiful outdoor spaces & scenery make this place worth the stay. Just a few things to note to make the 3-star review: 1. Masks are not enforced in any indoor space 2. Sleep is not easy here. There are no thermostats in the room, so if you're a hot sleeper like me, bring a fan. I was woken up multiple times during the night from guests in the hall and crying babies in other rooms. It seems there is no insulation. And lastly, the bed was so creaky, when I rolled over/moved I would wake my sleeping toddler. 3. There is no complimentary coffee or continental breakfast. Airbnb has this listed as an amenity. Booked at the Lodge for a mini 3 day vacation. Booking the room online was extremely easy and when I did have a question, calling the number provide was meet with an extremely nice lady ( wish I knew her name ) The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The pool was nice and refreshing after a swim in "the hole" where the kids had a blast tubing and jumping off the ledge. Built in 1948, this is the greatest hotel ever. The people are fun and nice and pleasant. This is the kind of place your grandparents stayed in and loved every second of it. For a relatively inexpensive place, you have a hotel room, swimming pool, swimming hole complete with a cave and a goat island, on site restaurant, on site bar, the list goes on and on. Hotel rooms are no frills, but if you're going to do Wimberley properly, you shouldn't be spending too much time in your hotel room anyway. Booking the room was easy and straightforward. The website is a bit confusing, and the welcome email is not as clear as it could be, but a quick call to the hotel cleared up everything. From the moment we checked in until we left, we had a wonderful time. All the local swimming holes were super low, and some were closed, but we had a great time in the pool. At check-in we received a bottle of chilled champagne, which was lovely. We enjoyed the on-site eateries but also had some outstanding meals at nearby restaurants. It's true that the bathrooms of the rooms are a bit run down, but they're functional and that is all that matters. There was a used wash cloth inside our shower when we arrived, which may indicate a not-super-fastidious approach to cleaning/sanitizing, but we were able to get clean towels easily. Think grandmas spare room/boyscount camp not holiday inn. This is right up my ally BUT BUT BUT ... proper maintenance and detailed cleanliness should never be the trade off for fun, retro vibes. You cannot look at the website or walk in the lobby and fall in love with real 1980's room key, authentic 1940's black and white photos of the place, and the customer service's attention to detail straight out of a simpler time then complain that there aren't enough outlets, the dresser is the one you had a child 4 decades ago, and the bathrooms haven't been updated since John boy said, "goodnight paw!" Authenticity comes with a lack of convenience sometimes. What I do believe you can expect from any place you pay to stay is no mildew in shower grout, clean seal around base of toilet, furniture free of dust, paint and caulking jobs that look done by a professional not the looks of having been done by a group of junior high boys rushing to finish so they can go swim, ice bag in ice bucket not kitchen size garbage bag, a lock on the door, and hot water in the shower. My honest opinion from someone who stays in retro motels and airbnbs all over the world? This place is a treasure offering something very hard to find in our ever sleeker, constantly updated world. Location perfection, one stop vacation spot, caring, attentive staff, authentic original details, and an overall feeling of walking back in time. It would be an utter shame to lose this place simply because -like all private businesses -sometimes we get lax in our standards of keeping up with the little things, thinking no one will notice a bit of stained grout or messy paint touch ups. My husband and I wanted to spend a long weekend away from our worries and we found it here. The falls, bakery, and Triforks Food Truck on site were delicious and beautiful. We found it peaceful (although a kid did start screaming in the early morning but the king size bed made up for it). There was plenty to do on site or like us Jacob's Well and The Blue Hole two of Texas' most beautiful natural wonders and Wimberley had some amazing shops. Love this place, it is the perfect getaway. We got married here in 2016 and came back last weekend for a getaway. The staff is new and so are some of the features on the property. The staff was kind to us and even gave us a bottle of wine to welcome us back. They also had 2 fires going and free s'more kits for the guests. There's nowhere else I would have rather had my wedding, and I look forward to spending much more time here when possible. A tip - Get the breakfast tacos from the on site bakery in the mornings. We came across this cozy spot while looking for a place to relax for a couple days and we found it. All we needed was in one spot...a bistro, a tavern and pool. The Lodge at Cypress Falls does NOT enforce wearing masks indoors in their public spaces. When I mentioned this at checkout the woman behind the desk said they did. When I pointed out that a group had been sitting in the lobby the day before and talking - without masks - she said they couldn't enforce it. There are absolutely no signs anywhere about wearing masks indoors - lobby or hallway - yet this is what they post on their website: "WE ARE CURRENTLY TAKING EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IN FOLLOWING ALL SAFETY GUIDELINES AND THE SAFETY OF OUR STAFF AND GUESTS." read more

Great stay! I love the retro charm of the lodge. We stayed in the Bungalow which was secluded, clean and comfy. I only have one complaint-they need to get a new mattress because this one sags and creaks. Otherwise, it is nice in a rustic, retro sort of way. The real perks for me were the creek ( I love swimming holes), the food and beer at the creek and the Tavern. It was nice to have all those things in one spot. I would recommend for people who like rustic places, swimming holes and dive bars. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! If I could leave less than one star I would. Six members of my book club stayed in the Cowboy Keychain Townhouse #1 this past weekend. Upon our arrival, we discovered the place was filthy (visible dirt and pet hair on the floor, dried food under the dining table, dirt in bathroom drawers). There were also burned out lightbulbs throughout the downstairs. The website said there is a Keurig coffee maker. There was no Keurig. Instead we found a Mr. Coffee with old coffee with mold growing on top. They delivered a Keurig two hours later, but it didn't work! Additionally, the garbage disposal was broken, ice maker and water dispenser were broken, all three toilet seats were broken, and there was no "stunning river view" (instead there were two abandoned buildings with broken glass on two sides of us). We spent the first two to three hours of our weekend cleaning. We took photos and sent them to the general manager asking for a 50% refund. His reply was that after reviewing our photos and his cleaning staff's photos (?), he would refund us 30%! This is not acceptable at all! This place isn't worth $50 a night, much less the exorbitant amount we paid! read more

We had a BLAST here! The staff was SUPER friendly. The swimming area down by the river was AWESOME! Some people have given reviews here that are less than complimentary about the facility. Well, it WAS build back in the late 40's, so what do you expect!? It was very clean and comfortable! I love the history of this place. The attached bar, "The Tavern", has a bunch of old pictures on the wall form back in this places heyday. Very cool! Also, Wimberley is awesome as well! The staff was all very nice and accommodating. There is a nice pool and bonfire and you get tickets to try danish at the bakery. Dinner at the Back Porch was good but the waitress said she didn't have a glass to pour my "wine in a can" into. ( I asked for a styrofoam one which she had but she never brought it) It appears no money has been put into upgrading the hotel - the walls are paper thin. A baby crying across the hall woke us 3 times during the night and his guests did not respect the silence until 8 am, yelling into the room from the hallway at 6:30 am There is nowhere to sit in the room except on the bed. I am surprised the place had good reviews, since we got there the first thing we noticed is how much work it needs, I understand the place is old, but it needs a lot TLC. The rooms are tiny and the sink doesn't work properly due to plumbing issues, one morning we woke up to a flooded sink with nasty stuff all over. We stayed there 5 nights, and the room wasn't cleaned during our stay, when I asked the second day when it would be cleaned, the lady in the reception was rude and told me it wouldn't due to Covid, I just wish we were told this at check in. I asked for clean towels and she told me they didn't have any available???? And told me I should have come the day before to get them... There is barely anything for breakfast, some mornings there was no juice at all, and one day not even coffee, and no one cares to check or refill either. The swimming hole is nasty, the water is dirty and it stinks too. Thank Goodnes there are other places nearby to swim like the blue hole and a creek in downtown. The only positive thing about our stay is a guy who works sometimes in the reception, his name is Hunter, he went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, in fact he's the only one there who has customer service skills. To summarize, We won't be staying here again in the future!! read more

Stayed here for a wedding over the weekend. Loved that we were able to snag one of the rooms so we didn't have to travel back to Austin. The beds were comfy, room clean, dogs were able to tag along and having the bar onsite was great! We didn't go to the falls - but will when we go back. The rooms were a little noisy - doors thin so you hear everything in the hallway. Also, the shower was less than but hey it was clean. If we go back we will stay in the room separate from the hotel just to have more space with the dogs and hopefully it will be quieter. Please note if you are expecting a luxury hotel - this is not your spot - think vintage bungalow at the lake. We were super bummed that we couldn't extend our stay to Sunday after the wedding as the Lodge was closed for some reason. All the above being said - we would 100% go back. read more

I live in Austin, but had a friend in town for a "staycation" so I found this place online and thought it'd be a great spot to stay after a visit to Jacob's Well. It was one of the most affordable places in the vicinity, and I'm happy we booked here because it was just what we needed. The room was clean and smelled fresh. The beds are comfy and don't have typical hotel bedding, so it felt more homey. They still issue actual keys to open your hotel room, so that was another simple little surprise. Pros: People are so friendly. The Bistro was good the staff was so accommodating. The night staff was super nice (felt like family). Also, a great reminder that "Nature" is beautiful a good get away. We went to Wimberly Square and the towns people were so friendly. We ate at Creekhouse and the food was awesome and so was the staff so friendly and attentive. My mother had a hard time walking and the manager was so kind and asked if she needed help and my mother found a good friend. Really great! Cons to the Lodge: The bathrooms need A LOT of upgrading. The shower that we had...I would turn on the shower and I had standing water...I felt gross. The toilet seat was loose. I needed to be careful sitting. There was evidence of mold. I cringed every time I used the restroom. read more

Biggest negative for me is that this place is *not* handicap-friendly. There is no handicapped parking. There are ramps, but the parking spots themselves require a bit of a walk for people who are mobility challenged. The entrance to the hotel isn't marked well, so I was a little confused about where to find the front desk. As I was standing in the parking lot, trying to figure it out, a couple of other people asked me if I knew where the main lobby was, so this wasn't just a "me" problem, obviously. I will say, however, that my room was exceptionally clean and fresh-smelling. I've stayed in five-star hotels that weren't as clean. The staff went ABOVE AND BEYOND making sure that my son and I had an OUTSTANDING stay and if we need ANYTHING they delivered AND THEN SOME. Weather it was a bag if ice or a HOT STEAMY SHOWER!!!! They made it feel like we were the only two staying there. I recommend staying here if just for a weekend getaway, a surprise party for a friend or family member ( this is why we were there) or to enjoy the FABULOUS food or shopping in near by Wimberly or to float down the river, enjoy some AWESOME fishing in thier watering hole or to grab an ICE COLD beverage from thier OUTSTANDING bartenders at the in house bar or down at the watering hole. This place is lovely. We were very excited to receive an ice cold bottle of "champagne" as a welcoming gift upon arrival! They have a wonderful pool that we were fortunate to have to ourselves all day, since we were there mid-week. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The Dark Skies Tavern is a gem, rustic and inviting. The drinks are strong, so drinker beware! The restaurant was good as well, nothing spectacular but as far as convenience goes, it was perfect. My only complaint is that the plumbing in our bathroom was not functioning well. The sink wouldn't drain and the toilet wouldn't flush and always seemed on the verge of overflowing. We used the restroom in the Tavern for most of our stay. The rooms were very basic, with a tricky floor. The flooring was loose and felt bouncy to walk on. In some areas tiles would sink in so we walked carefully as we did not want to trip or injure ourselves. It could have been cleaned a bit better as we found old socks and a flip-flop under our beds along with a few dust bunnies. If your used to luxury, this is not it. However, I'm giving it 4 stars because of the beautiful location, the convenience of having a restaurant and bar on site, the spacious pool, shady hammocks, and a friendly staff. They are also dog friendly, although I did not bring mine along for this trip, so I'm not sure of what the fees are. There are shady trails to walk around, a tennis and basketball court, a quaint space that is rented out for weddings and your stay gets you free entry into The Cypress Falls watering hole, which also has a bar and various water fun rentals- walking distance from the lodge (3minutes). It is a nice rustic getaway and if your not too picky, a great place to stay. We had a great time. read more
