Great local dive club steeped in history. We saw a great local cover band called 120 Minutes who covered exactly what you'd expect. Drinks are fairly priced for the neighborhood and they have a nice outdoor seating area. read more

This bar has a very neighborhood feel; I got the impression many of the patrons knew each other, and all ages (over 21) were represented. I was probably lucky to get a spot in the parking lot on a busy Saturday. It is a bit divey, but the bathrooms were clean. I was there for one of the post-spelling bee bands, so it was too late to try the pizza, and I was driving so I limited myself to ginger ale. One free refill for designated drivers is nice. For future reference, I noticed they had some unique cocktails and lots of THC gummy brands to choose from. I don't smoke and November isn't the greatest time to be on the patio, but I did make a trip to get off my feet for a bit and they had a firepit going. It's true there is no cover, but the night I was there, they had a Band Tip pitcher. I wish I'd had more cash with me. Sound was decent considering the small narrow room; I was still able to get video that I felt OK posting on YouTube. I was there for the last band, FenixDion, and though I at times felt people were more into drinking than listening, it stayed pretty full until the end, and we even got an encore! read more

Another stop on the Nordeast Walking Tour with Patrick, Susan and Mike: Dranks only, very pleased to hear live music. The crowd was enthusiastic without being rowdy, the atmosphere was dim and very cool (literally and otherwise) and the music got our toes tapping. Live music every night and no cover? Sweet, count me in! This is a great spot to stop by at any point in the night. The crowd changes depending on the music, but each time I've visited, everyone's been great. It does get crowded, but the staff are well-versed in serving up your drink(s) fast after you politely elbow your way to the bar. There's plenty of patio space out back and around the side if you'd like to catch some air in between--or sometimes during--bands. Not into all the noise? There are several nearby bars within walking distance to check out. Definitely make 331 a stop if you're out and about in Northeast. read more

I've never seen so many tall PBR cans in my life and I used to live in Milwaukee. But, it was NE so I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised. Dropped in for NYE and to see what was crack a lackin at the 90's party. Clad in our tackiest 90's gear; vests, overalls, swatch and a replica pager we barely made it through the door. By the time we got there it was at maximum capacity, but the doorman told us to hang on and were soon herded in to party like it was still 1999 with the other revelers. The place was busting at the seams. Some dressed up, some didn't. At times it was a little hard to tell if people were actually dressed 90's or dressing 90's because it was "cool" and they always dressed the part. I thought there would be an actual DJ spinning, but it was done via laptop. Wu- Tang and Hanson in the same set? Really? It seems like a fairly fun place. No cover a big bonus. Bar area seems nice from what I could tell. No clue on the bathrooms or any other part since it was fully covered with wall to wall people. 331 seems to have a lot of potential and a lot of great ideas. I just wish the space would have been a tad less crowded. Trying to do the running man was virtually impossible since there was absolutely no room only enough for the sea of hispters to raise their tall PBR's Nice blend of people. For as crowded as it was, almost everyone was really nice and respectful with the exception of the high heeled hair hopper who stepped on J's toe and acted like nothing happened. 331 Club hosts live music several times a week with no cover (ever!), so I find myself stumbling in here on many a night. Most likely, actually stumbling. The place is a little divey, but kinda hip. It's a bit of a small narrow venue, but I appreciate the intimacy. There's still room to stand by the stage, sit in a booth, or belly up to the bar. There's a fenced patio area off the back too, with a few picnic tables that people mostly just smoke at. They of course have happy hour specials (Monday-Saturdays noon-6pm) and tacos (made by the Sheridan room, I believe). Among shows, they also host the Drinking Spelling Bee, Trivia nights, tap takeovers, and other sorts of live entertainment. I hope to take a shot at the Drinking Spelling Bee soon and either make a total ass of myself and take home gold... whichever comes first! read more

We went for trivia night and had a blast! The place was packed even though we were there 40 minutes early, so plan accordingly. Thankfully, there was ample outdoor space to enjoy the weather. The staff were super friendly and quick. They have happy hour food, but recommended we order from the restaurant next door rather than through them for speed. My friend who ordered food through the bar had his pizza forgotten about, but the staff were very apologetic and were quick to correct the mistake. Food was good, drinks were good, atmosphere was great. Looking forward to stopping in again for live music! read more

I've pissed on the side of this building. The staff is full of Northeast angst ten-fold. Toxic, highly political, and I'm guessing mutually intoxicated exchanges between customers and bartenders. A bartender on their smoke break yelled at my friend who lived in the area for an extended period of time in front of only me despite my friend apologizing for a pretty benign gesture made in jest...Literally just flipping the bird. The exchange was rather hostile and went on for like 8 minutes after the first apology of many. Just kind of relax a bit. Could be a pretty cool bar, and I've met pretty cool people there, but unfortunately it's staffed poorly. That all was a 2nd negative experience of my two. The 1st was when security told my buddy I was "out" after I went to smoke a cigarette, apparently I was just swaying a bit, was still quite mentally aware, but who knows. This was when it was in the negative digits temperature-wise. This bar was traumatic to this young man. read more

Awesome time at the Spelling Bee on Saturday night at 7pm! Select between Surly Hell and Furious for your beverage included in the ticket. The Bee is a fun way to switch things up from a traditional trivia night, plus it's on a Saturday! Stay for the live music after. Awesome dive bar in a great location. First time to the 331. I would definitely label this as a "dive", but it has a rather hip feel. It is a little narrow and seating is a bit of a commodity- booths line the sides, a few tables in the middle, and bar seating is available. The happy hour and tap selection help make up for the limited space. There was live music the night we stopped in. The bartender pointed out they either have music or a different event nightly (without a cover!), which is nice. Rookie mistake: I didn't eat before having a few beers. Because of this, I decided I should order some food. I had the quesadilla and shared some chips and salsa with a friend. The food was average, even by bar standards. Outside of happy hour, the drink prices are still reasonable. I look forward to checking out more events there. read more

UPDATE!! They got these rocking blue curtains for pretty much all of the walls. I don't know why I love them. But I LOVE them. They make the 331 even better. Go! but not all at once, now. This is my favorite bar. I started coming here when I first moved to the Cities, trucking up from South Minneapolis to see folks like Darren Jackson and Charlie Parr, because there's never any cover. Which I love. They have Bell's Two Hearted (it's gone now! :( 10/25/07 - but they have Pilsner Urquell now and Finnegan's), Surly Bender, and Grain Belt on tap. They also have wireless internet. Last month I sat on their University Ave patio and coughed on truck exhaust while I checked my email. Love it! Trivia on Sunday's with Chuck and Sean is often hysterical. They never start on time (which would by 9pm), but get there early if you want a table. You might plan on making friends or at least sharing your table because this is a pretty tiny place, and it fills up for trivia. Check out the burlesque shows. We don't do burlesque in the Minneap so much, and you've got to hand it to the 331 to support it. Caveats: no windows, which is only weird in the daytime; unique smell, which you'll grow fond of; hard to move sometimes - what can you do. Look for the talented Mr. Rob Skoro behind the bar (he'll be the one with a feather in his hat) - he's a local singer-songwriter with a national audience. And a heckuva barman. I dig also Raleigh's Texas Tacos on Tuesdays. $2.50 margaritas, hard to beat. And if you remember anything, be it this: Half-price bottles of (very decent) wine until 9 o'clock (that's late, folks) from Sunday to Thursday. read more

Yes there's trivia, live bands and spelling bees, but none of these compare to Blingo on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. with Ellie. The drink special of the evening is 2 for 1 Lone Star beers and mojitos. Blingo is the form of bingo you would imagine playing in retirement, but Ellie brings the "bling bling" to blingo with hip hop tunes from the 90s to today, with a few pop tunes for good measure. It's fun and free to play. You play for prizes, such as a salon gift card, shots, food and even a $25 bar tab. If you shower, dress well, make money at your profession, or like a friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere...go somewhere else. I'd put the 331 Club in my "Northeast go-to" category because it has everything a good bar should have, plus a lot of bonuses. Inside, you'll find a dark and comfortable booze cave for live music (ALWAYS free, decent local bands, lots of Americana, this makes me happy), trivia (they have quite a few games here, thanks to Trivia Mafia) and just plain chillin'. They also do some dance parties too, but these can be crowded 'cause it's a small bar. Oh, and there is a broken jukebox in the women's bathroom. Say wha?! The service ranges from decent to excellent, including one time a few years ago where we came for the drinking spelling bee and it was cancelled under crazy circumstances that had nothing to do with them. Instead of just saying sorry, they bought my group of 14 people a round of drinks. It was quite nice of them. While the outdoor area is sometimes too smoker-friendly for my lungs, it can be nice to pull up a picnic table with friends and hang out there between sets. Anyway, the gist is that if you like fun and don't care about the fancy, you will like the 331 Club. read more

I used to love this place, and said it was my favorite bar in Minneapolis. I would come here a few times a week years ago, and always met interesting people, and the atmosphere was welcoming and low-key. I hold fond memories of a kid running around in a Spiderman suit, friendly bartenders, drunk trivia hosts, and wonderful patrons from all over the world. Recently, I've ranted and raved about my great experiences here, and dragged a couple of friends with me... that's when everything went downhill. I don't know what happened to this place in the past few years, but even the employees I recognize from before have turned into unbearable staff. The past four times I've been here, I was ignored on a slow night, treated rudely, or witnessed people being shouted at like children for ridiculous reasons (playing with coasters? Really?). This last night was a particularly hard time for me with the disappearance of a good friend, and I wanted to have a beer and relax. Instead, we were hardly greeted with a smile at a place I once praised for being friendly, and witnessed an unprofessional, unnecessary, uncomfortable altercation between the bartender and two customers. To make matters worse, others outside were talking about their poor experiences with the bartender as well. I will not be returning, despite living in the area and having loved this bar. The past four times I've said, "maybe they were just having a bad day," but last night clearly said otherwise. This place has just gone to crap. read more

Sadly, this is another one of those neighborhood joints that took me far too long to visit. However, I have been making up for that with weekly visits since last fall. A couple lovely ladies of Yelp recruited me to play trivia with them on Sunday evenings at the 331 hosted by Trivia Mafia. Team Ginger Fight! was born. Since then I've been frequenting the bar weekly. They have great grub and a fairly impressive beer list. The only real downside is the place is filled to the gills with hipster douche nozzles. I'm talking hipster epicenter of the city. Granola eating, unkempt beard rocking, mismatched clothes wearing hipsters. If you can get past that you're good. They also have free music most nights of the week and a drinking spelling bee a couple times a month. Definitely a great bar. read more

Tremendously bad customer service. I'll spare the long, drawn out details, but I ordered a pizza on Saturday night at 12:10. (The kitchen was supposed to be open until 1, so they should have been more on top of it.) At 12:35, I stepped up to ask about my pizza, but wasn't helped until 12:40, when the barback who was supposed to be making my pizza realized his fatal mistake and, in his words, "burnt the shit out of [my] pizza." The bartender was super annoyed AT ME because I asked for a refund. I said that I wasn't going to wait again and that I just wanted my money back. The bartender asked if I paid with a card (earlier we had a scuffle about my card and I was dressed for a wedding--when I was bartending, I would have remembered a person like this) and eventually gave me cash back. I wouldn't be opposed to visiting the place again were I ever in Minneapolis but their customer service was severely lacking over an overpriced pizza ($11) that comes out of a microwave. read more

If you want to experience Nordeast for real, this HAS to be a stop. This place is always supporting local music which is something that not many places can say for themselves anymore. The bar itself, short, sweet and to the point. Their menu is great, but your typical bar food (which is not too shabby in NE MPLS). This is a great place to take a double date or even just check out some new music. Honestly, the reason I really enjoy this place comes down to two reasons: Sunday nigh trivia and how well it supports local music. read more

Yeah, I pretty much love the 331 Club. I have a lot of friends in the local music scene, and the 331 is the place they all play. Two of my friends have chosen to have their CD release shows here, and no wonder. It's the perfect setup. The bar serves a huge variety of consumables, from cheap swill like Miller High Life to Surly to some really rare "boutique" beers. Like another reviewer said, they have an excellent bar menu. Definitely above average for a lot of bars in town. I had the tuna melt most recently, and it was absolutely scrummy. As far as entertainment, I've never seen a bad show there. Jason the sound guy really knows what he's doing, and really works hard to give everyone (the band included) a good show. There's booth seating near the door (which is the back, from the stage point of view), and there are some tables along the long bench that runs up the south wall of the place. Even when they don't have shows, it's a great place to hang out. The lighting is low and sets off a nice atmosphere. I just wish I lived closer so I could hang out more. read more

Three words: Drinking Spelling Bee. Oh yes, this happens monthly. $6 gets you entry and a beer. every word you get right, you get another beer. so bloody brilliant. There are some hard core bitter spelling bee participants who study the dictionary for a living. But the good news it's all on you. So even if you can't spell Spiritu(a)list right (Lindsey R.), that's okay because you tried. Not. You feel stupid if you can't spell the word but at least you'll enjoy trying. One of my favorite low key dive-ish bars in the northeast. It's not a full dive; there's a hint of hipster trying to by divey. They've got one of the best happy hour deals in town 2 beers for $5. You pay $5 and they give you a token so your next beer is free. This place has parking; super plus. This bar also has outdoor seating! Not greatest view, but big enough to fit a good chuck of people. This place is very unassuming. The bartenders are nice, just as long as you know what you want right away and say "please" if you need pickle juice with your whiskey. The food is definitely nothing to rave about, but the prices are reasonable and let's just be honest, it's great to eat something with substance when your drunk. read more

Was at the 331 Club yesterday and they had a drink menu which was politically themed, funny and strong. Great atmosphere and they always have weird yet good music. The Dj was topless with her nipples painted, thats a first for me. Friendly staff and everyone looks gorgeous because its soo dark in there. Perfect for a Tuesday night. I am adding to my review of the 331 Club to warn against trying the bean tacos on taco night. Some of the worst bar food I have ever had. The pita and hummus was OK but it would be better if they heated the pita and not serve it cold. Happy hour is one of the best in NE. $2.50 for any beer 3-6 pm, Monday-Firday. read more

This place is so tiny! I was here for the tipsy talent show and it was interesting. It's a long rectangular shaped bar with seating along the side. They had pretty good on tap options and folks were certainly friendly. The talent show was quite underwhelming, but I guess that's what you get when 'tipsy' is in the title. The more I see of Northeast, the more I love it, and this place is no different. Went there to see a friend's band perform. A place automatically gets one star for having live music. Though the acoustics are not that great. The place is pretty small actually, which is part of its charm, but the bands play like they would in a larger venue. That being said, once your ears get used to it (i.e., you lose SOME hearing), it's alright and you can enjoy the music and the screaming-in-ear conversation you may try to have. The set-up is nice with some seating to the sides, but enough room in the middle to stand and listen to music, and maybe dare to dance, if applicable. The crowd seemed very chill and dive-bar-worthy. People spanned decades of age groups, and everyone got along just fine, because when music brings you together, who cares what age you are. I think there were even some biker dudes. I wouldn't want to mess with them. There are so many little unique things about the place that add charm, like the ceiling tiles, the art on the side of the building, the sound guy who's getting drunk, and some of the other staff who show some dancing skills towards the end of the night. The little patio is pretty cool, and even with all the smokers, I enjoyed it. After the bands finished playing, the disco ball dropped and some dance music was put on for people to get their groove on before leaving. I sure got my groove on. The staff is super nice and friendly, and don't act all uppity and sober and snooty towards the patrons. They know what working at a dive bar is about, and they probably like their job! I will definitely go back for more good music and a great chill time. I hear the place has some good happy hour deals, so I may try to check that out sometime. read more

3.5 This bar is what you expect a shitty northeast dive bar to be. I'm using the term shitty in an endearing type of way. I come here for happy hour sometimes or if I know a band that's playing, but otherwise there are better options in NE. They have live music every day of the week and I don't think there is ever a cover. Great happy hour, you'll never catch me complaining about 2 pints of Surly furious for $5. If it's not HH, a Bell's Hopslam always does the trick. I can't give it four stars because the staff is a little rude, they obviously cater to the locals first, and the food is blah. Definitely go somewhere else in NE if you're wanting good food. I will be back to the 331, but not with super high expectations. read more

BLINGO, aka "Bling Bling Bingo" (my aunt actually called and asked what the difference is between BINGO and BLINGO--god love her) is on Tuesdays at 7. It's free to play and you can win prizes ranging from a shot of whiskey to a gift card to a hair salon. Although no one at my table won, it was incredibly fun and I couldn't help but smile when a throwback hip-hop song came on. Is it just me, or does this bar host the best events in the Twin Cities? This place is always fighting for space, and always crowded. But it is fun as hell, and the regulars are crazy! The patio sucks (mostly due to the size) but if your on the Northeast side, there is no reason why you wouldn't want to come here.. One of the best places to leave wasted! read more

I went to 331 Club on Tuesday night with some friends for BLINGO. Blingo is best described as sassy bingo--played to rap music, a funny hostess, odd bingo shapes (hair dryer, martini glass, etc), and awesome prizes (shots, free tacos, t shirts, salon gift certificates, and wiping your bar tab clean). Blingo runs from 7-9pm on Tuesdays. I suggest getting there a little early to get a table. They serve food...but I'd recommend eating elsewhere before you go (Erte across the street is a much better alternative). Menu is small and with cheap food, but even for $3-$5 the taco, chips and salsa were pretty blah. Bottles of wine are half off Sunday-Thursday. Tuesday is taco night--$3 for one and $5 for two--go with the chicken over the bean if you decide to ignore my advice about eating elsewhere. 331 Club also has a drunken Spelling Bee every other Saturday night, and trivia on Sundays. There is a small parking lot behind the building and ample street parking within a block or two. read more
