I really like the satellite stores. I guess because they are small they have time to be friendly. The flagship store has an amazing selection of fabric and supplies, unfortunately to me it feels like the staff is aloof. I guess it's a trade off to make an hour drive to the Northern location for more selection, or shop at the smaller locations. No I'm not a person who sews. The extent of my sewing is being able to sew a button back on my shirt. We mostly use this place for replenishing the vacuum cleaner bags, and they do have a good amount of them for any type of vacuum cleaner you might have. I should mention that my wife did get her sewing machine repaired here and they did an excellent job. You just can't replace an older Singer sewing machine as part on those older machines are of better quality, as we were told by the repairman. Over the years I noticed the name has changed. Used to just be 35th Ave Sew and Vac, and used to be located on the other side of this strip mall facing 35th Avenue. They moved to this location over a decade ago, taking over the space the Goodwill Store occupied, and believe me they needed the space. I must admit they have a great selection of material for the sewing enthusiast as well as other items needed for sewing. Like any place you have to pay attention to the prices as fabric can be pricey. They do have some fabric that is on discount. They carry a huge selection of sewing machines as well as a good selection of vacuum cleaners. I noticed they have a room where they probably hold sewing classes if that is your thing. Every time I have visited here I feel like I am the only guy here except for the guys that work on repairs and work on talking to you about vacuum cleaners. I must say that their employees are very polite and pretty much let you roam around even you don't buy anything. I believe they have other stores in the Valley so you will have to check on your. I've never been here before, went this morning, the store was busy but not too busy. Anyways I got to exploring and at the end came across the middle section in the front with all of the sewing machines. As I said I've never been here before, so I sat down at one of the machines, I saw tester samples in the middle of the table and thought they were for customers to check out how the sewing machines work. I haven't been to any fabric stores in Arizona and have never seen this before. So I got excited to try out a machine I was looking into. I used what was already on the machine to test out a stitch, behind me comes a older women with white/greyish BIG poofy hair and asks what I was doing, I said just checked out the machine, she said in a very rude tone" well you aren't just checking them out you're touching them". I looked at her confused and said yes, am I not allowed to, where she responded it's only for workers and for customers to watch. I told her I'd never been there before and there were no signs and no one had said anything so I didn't know. I got up and left the area and she followed me out of the area. I just ended up leaving with no fabric because I was so uncomfortable. my suggestion would be to put signs up around the area so new people know, or have people who greet customers when they walk in and inform them. read more

Oh my! This place has it all. This is the "mother lode" of fabric stroes! I love walking into a quilt shop and seeing all the examples of quilts or craft ideas. This place is loaded with them. In addition, the fabrics are top grade and there are so many bolts of them each in separate areas. If you need a new machine or need yours repaired, this is the place. Turned my sewing machine in for a simple repair in February 10,2023. I was told 6 weeks turn around. At 6 weeks, I called to check status and was told they were working on turn ins from the end of January '23 and to expect it in a week. It's now April 10,2023 and it's still not ready! I'm not a satisfied customer and don't recommend using them! read more

My sewing machine has been in for service for a month now. It's still not ready. When I took it in I was told it would be 2-3 weeks. When I called for an update, the service personnel showed no concern and said the length of time it had been there didn't matter. "The technician on whose table it is sitting is on phone duty," was the excuse I was given. read more

Just a note to Ray. If the service department would have fixed my sewing machine back in March, I wouldn't have been in there today buying a new one. You were the straw that broke the camels back. Your stuck up rudeness coming in and out of the classroom and then asking sales girl in your finest snooty self if I was the one that just had to have an appointment. Then we have sales girl who at an earlier curbside pick up a few weeks who would not listen to me when I kept telling her I had 2 orders ready. The next day I get an overnight pkg which was my second order just like I kept telling her. . Finally we have the service department, completely failed on my machine. My mother dug out her 40-year-old Kenmore sewing machine when I expressed an interest in learning to sew. The machine turned on but didn't do much else-- it obviously needed a tune up. At the recommendation of a family friend who makes quilts, I took it to the 35th Ave Sew & Vac. I was told it would be about 5-6 weeks before I'd get it back, which is understandable if they've got a backlog of machines to repair as we all find ways to entertain ourselves from home! I heard back after 6 weeks and a couple days. They let me know I should be using a different size bobbin casing, which was very helpful. The repair/tune-up ended up costing a bit more than I expected because they replaced a couple parts as well. If I received a call about this while it was getting repaired, they did not leave a voicemail to let me know extra work would need to be done (and when they did call to let me know it was ready, they called/left a VM from a number other than the one listed on the site). I have been back in several times since then to get more bobbins, thread, different needles, and to check out the fabric selection. During my brief interactions with the staff I could tell they are very knowledgeable. Customers and employees are also expected to wear masks which I greatly appreciate! While I wasn't overjoyed at the price of my tune-up going up from the original quote with no voicemail, I believe buying new appliances when your old one can be repaired is wasteful and I would rather not buy new; so, I was happy to pay the repair cost. Because my overall experience has been positive over the course of 4 or 5 visits, I give five stars. read more

Found this place for my mom when I was in Phoenix over the holidays. Her 40 year old BEAM central vacuum system was falling apart. Tapping around online, it was looking like a $500+ replacement. We gave this place a shot and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent customer service! John helped us in vacuums. So knowledgeable! So nice! Replaced the cuffs on the hoses, set us up with a new brush, and we were out the door for less than $80. Got it home and everything works like new. read more

This is my "go to" place for unique fabrics. During Covid it was only open to online orders so I was disappointed to find that when I stopped to get fabric to make masks. But I don't blame them. I was there again yesterday and everything was back to normal. I come from Pennsylvania where I was used to shopping with the Amish at a huge variety of fabric stores. Yesterday, 1/10/2022, was my first visit to the store. Upon entering, no one greeted although I passed three employees on my way back to the fabric. I was looking for a specific color of fabric. I walked up and down the aisles, passed more employees, and still no one so much as grunted at me or looked my way. Definitely no offer to help. I took the one fabric I found to the cutting counter. The lady behind the counter was pleasant - the first employee that didn't have a grumpy look on her face and seemed happy to cut my fabric. When I went to pay, I had a hard time figuring out where to line up to pay. Fortunately, another customer helped me figure it out. How embarrassing! As I waited in line to pay, I noticed how eerily quiet it was. Quilt shops are my happy places. I didn't feel happy at all. Finally, when the customer (who helped me find the checkout line) was paying, I noticed the employee asked for her phone number. I assume it was to log in her purchase to her account. So, when I went to pay, I mentioned I was not in their system. No response from the employee and no offer to set me up in the system. I actually walked out of there thinking what a depressing place to shop. I honestly don't understand what draws so many quilters to this store. read more

I love shopping here and have bought machines here. If I have a problem, I speak to John or Jackie and it is immediately taken care of. I love the fabric selections they carry. I have never had an employee refuse to help or go out of their way to find the fabric I need. The more you go to the store, the more you will get to know who to ask for the item you need. I buy the majority of my fabric here and am always greeted. They have a coupon you download onto your phone and you get 30% off 1 cut of fabric and 30% off one notion! Some weeks I go more than once and use the coupon each visit. It's great. You can't beat the fabric selection or the sewing machine selection and you get free user classes with your purchase. It's a wonderful place to shop. read more

Very awesome store for fabric. The good quality fabrics from the trending designers are here. Also, patterns and books and software with the latest designs. The monthly black bag membership gives me coupons, fun sales with theme parties, and a designer presentation. It is worth it for me to join since I like to save on fabric. And there are many brands of machines for sewing, embroidery and quilting. There are also resale machines at low prices. I have purchased two machines there, and the service and maintenance are great. I also have gone to get questions answered when I have machine trouble or confusion. I like the classes and personal training on sewing and machines; it helps me get the most out of my investments. read more

Love coming to Phoenix, it's been years, exploring, driving the town, taking in the sites, the food and shopping! My hobbies are sewing, quilting, beading and anything with yarn! My husbands hobbie is food and so we're off, driving through town looking for someplace to eat, then I catch site of this place and we gotta stop. It's big, old grocery store space! There are rows of quilt patterns, gadgets, fabric and lots of fabric! They have sewing machines and classrooms, the staff are friendly and so helpful. If I could give -10 rating, I would do it I open my machine. Granted I haven't so much in the past year. I've been working so I serviced my machine a year ago and got it back of your ago and haven't opened it. I just opened it and they swapped out my parts. I have a very vintage working and in good standing 1955 white sewing machine. Shortly after picking it up, I noticed that the handle on the case broke which wasn't breaking when it was brought in. The parts, multiple feet and stitching options with small repair kit, has been swapped out for other machine parts and I am really pissed. And reading past reviews I believe I will get no where with the service department, this was my grandmother's machine and I have kept it for many years and I can't believe anybody has the conscious to do something like this and rip somebody off. I'm gonna have to take them to civil court. This is unacceptable and I can prove it. My phone has pre pics day of drop off, thank you modern technology! A big thank you to Jackie and Rachelle at the Phoenix location. We bought a new long arm quilting machine back in Nov. 2020. It was brand new out on the market and definitely had some bugs to be worked out. They took all of our phone calls patiently, worked with their repair technicians and also called the Handi Quilter Technicians for answers. It took a few trips back and forth for maintenance but in the end everything was resolved and I ended up with a machine that I'm very pleased with. Some of the issues were resolved when Handi Quilter released an update and we loaded that into the machine. I had my sewing machine repaired here. The man who worked on it was so pleasant and efficient. I do wish I had gotten his name. I came in on a Sunday practically in tears and left happy as could be. First of all, I was so grateful they were open on Sunday! AND had such a wonderful technician who was able to fix it for me so quickly. His kind demeanor was an absolute bonus. I can assure you that I will never go to another repair shop again. Although there is a shop much closer to my house, they have a charge just to look at your machine and then you wait at least a week to get it back. I understand they are busy but I can't tell you what a relief it was to return home with my machine and get back to sewing. This is such a great store! They also have a wonderful and huge selection of fabrics and sewing machines! I'm a fan! read more

I'm pretty easy to please, but after a few visits to this store during my trips to AZ, I am continually confused. What attracted to me to the store first was the coupons that competed with big chain craft stores. I was patronizing their business rather than Michaels or Hobby Lobby because I could still enjoy a discount on at least one item. Now, competitor coupons are no longer honored. Lately, every time I go, fewer items are allowed under the coupon they offer. I have bought fat quarters with the fabric coupon before. Today, I get my purchase cut and arrive at the register only to be told then that fat quarters are no longer eligible for the coupon. Apparently a yard of fabric is no longer a yard of fabric when cut into fat quarters. The last time I was there, an item I picked out from Notions was no longer a notion according to the new coupon rules. Soon it will be too hard to shop there and I, like many others, will go to the chain stores to not have the aggravation. read more

On November 26th I brought my vacuum here to get fixed. Too much cat hair. Two months later I got it back. The first three weeks I spent calling asking if the thing had been fixed, as I was told it would take "about five days" and would receive a call when it was ready. A week later, I tried calling, it was near impossible to get the guy that apparently fixes that vacuums on the phone. I was told I would receive a call back. Never got a call. Forgetting about it, three weeks later I was successful and was told my vacuum had mistakenly never been moved from the "waiting to be fixed" pile. No apologies, but was again told I will receive a call when it was fixed. Never got a call. At that point, I was morbidly curious to see just how long it could be for the goddamn thing to get fixed. A month later I called for shits and giggles and was told it had been ready and I can come and pick it up. Never got a call or message telling me it had been ready. Never again. read more

If you like rude clerks, cockroaches, and being overcharged well do I have the place for you! 35th Ave Sew & Vac! I had a horrible experience here. It was my first time and I brought my one year old daughter. Unlike every fabric store in America they didn't have carts. They also didn't have a changing table so I had to change my daughter in my car in 115 degree weather. This was all forgivable, but when I asked a clerk if they had any carts she was very rude, and said something under her breath as I walked away. Later my daughter rushed for something on the floor and instinctively I picked her up and it's a good thing too because it was a large dead cockroach in the isle. When I went to get my fabric cut my daughter was fussy. Considering that she has two molars coming in, which anyone with any empathy would understand except the people here. The woman cutting the fabric was very rude. She asked how old my daughter was, and later told me I should have put my one year old daughter in their fabric carts...I mean really? Because you don't have shopping carts, you're going to tell me that I should put my one year old daughter into the fabric cart? It didn't even have a bottom. My daughter would have gotten her foot stuck and been hurt. The lady's response when I told her this was that some other person had put their child (not toddler but child) in the quilt cart just the other day. Wow...just wow. At this point I put everything I was getting on the table and said no thanks. I didn't get anything. I had about $70 worth of fabric at that point, and had planned to keep shopping, but I left. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! EVER! You couldn't pay me to go here. They are overpriced anyway. Horrible, horrible, horrible experience! And I wish I could give them no stars. read more

This is an AMAZING store! I don't know why there are bad reviews. They have the most complete stock of any store I've been to in the country. They also had a sale section and I bought the cutest fabric ever for $5 per yard. Prices are MSRP or close to them for fabric. Not sure about machines. This store made me feel like I had died and went to fabric heaven. There is just so much beautiful, wonderful, amazing fabric. I dropped a pretty penny- but I've already used some of my perfect fabric for great projects. The place is clean, the staff is super friendly and patient- especially with newbies like me. When I brought 10 different reams of fabric up and had to stop and really think about how much I needed- patience came with a smile. It seems like everything (even the high end designers) are around $10/yard. If you get bogged down with all the fabric that you are falling in love with, they have a cute little table set up with these funny little signs that say "get your paws off my fabric" which made me chuckle. Maybe I'm turning into an old lady who loves silly stuff like that. Despite the somewhat sketchy location, 35th Ave. Sew and Vac is my new go-to for fabric! read more

This place stole my sewing machine from me. I have little money so I got a very nice machine for little money from a pawn shop. I started having trouble with tension and very raggedy stitches I couldn't fix so I took it in for a free estimate. They advertise they give free estimates. A woman told me she fixed it in a few minutes for less than 2 dollars including a bobbin I didn't need. But, because she had already done the repair I would have to pay the 99 dollar service fee because that's their policy. After thinking about it, I sent an email to them telling them it was unfair and I want my machine back. They don't respond to it at all. Robbers without conscience or character. Beware. read more

In yet another episode of My Impulsive Life, I was working on rearranging a room and decided to repurpose an old bookshelf as my new storage unit for my bags and hats. When all was finished I decided it needed something more. Fabric as some type of cover and a little bit of class. But I couldn't find anything open nearby and those that were had some really piss poor excuses for fabric collections. I posted on facebook about my frustration and get a response to try 35th Ave Sew and Vac. I didn't hesitate as I was desperate and in the mood to shop. Having one of the cross streets in the name is a huge help too, let me tell ya. I found the place easily and was excited to get started in my search. At first it looked like there was a very limited selection of fabric and I started to weep (on the inside, don't worry). Then a skinny hallway and narrow beacon of light directed me to the mecca of fabric. I was lost in no time, wandering about the rows and admiring the selections. They were categorized beautifully and the taxonomy/library science geek in me swooned. Everything was so easy to find. Finally I made a decision and headed to the checkout. They were so nice and friendly and it was a breeze to pay and make my way home to use my newly found goods. Everyone I encountered seemed really knowledgeable and courteous, which is nice, because I actually don't know a damn thing about sewing except that I can't do it. read more
