I went to EMT Utah for my Basic EMT and it was probably the worst education I have ever received…read more Instructors were inattentive, lacked communication, and disorganized. While taking the course there were two days when instructors did not even show up to the class. And when they did, they often did not know what they needed to go over that day because there were so many different instructors and they would not communicate with each other. It took 3 attempts to pass the NREMT as I felt like the education was lacking and I had to teach myself everything in the textbook after class was over. Of those I have talked to from class, only about half of them say they were capable of passing the NREMT, showing a huge flaw in the education received from EMT Utah.

I needed to finish my 20-hour pre-licensing course by early October so my hours could be banked to…read moreNMLS before my ID got deleted. After checking online, I saw a lot of people recommending MEC, so I went with their course. I didn't want to do in-person or live webinar classes, so I chose their on-demand video course instead. You can pick how many days to finish it -- 3, 5, 10, or 14. I went with 14 days to be safe but ended up finishing on day 12. The system controls how many hours you can do each day, and the videos only have a pause button -- no fast-forward or slow mode, and no subtitles. The platform is pretty strict but smart. If you stop paying attention or switch tabs, it restarts that section and resets the timer. Basically, you have to sit through all 20 hours. Each section has a short quiz, a mini assignment (someone actually grades it), and a 25-question final test at the end. Once I finished everything, MEC sent my completion certificate and uploaded my record to NMLS the very next day, which was super fast! These licensing courses are pricey, so definitely look for a promo code online before you buy. Mine was originally $305.37, but I found a 43% off discount and ended up paying $174.05 -- totally worth it. Overall, MEC's course is good for getting your hours done, but it's not enough to pass the actual test by itself. You'll still need to spend extra time reviewing the book and doing practice questions before the exam.

The zoom said class started at 9am -no time zone indicated! It took forever to get someone on the phone. I sent them screenshots showing them I was in the waiting room on time. I was in the waiting on time during the conversation for the 2nd class. They refused to let me in the class but sent me a certificate of completion the within 15 minutes of the class starting. NMLS confirmed receipt. Some people would like this, but I am not playing around with my license! I feel totally scammed!

The instructors were informative and patient- (special shout out to Shay the MVP for always being present and setting up first thing in the am/ helping us avoid any bad habits from the day prior). The students were friendly and helpful- we became a little crew lol. Often you would work together with another classmate to get your pre-trip/ backing dialed in. Going out on the road was great- real time experience away from a parking lot! Going up and down Parley's canyon was the highlight of my road experience- lots going on and so many other drivers to maneuver around. I better understood the importance of speed/ brake management. For the overall time I spent in this class I would say it was worth the value of the class. I learned a lot and as a bonus I made new friends that I will likely keep in touch with for years to come! I asked for a refund and they denied me because of their policies.
