I don't know what place the others on Yelp are reviewing, but they don't reflect the experience I had at 4:59. I walked out with a haircut that looks choppy and felt rushed all for double the price of Hair Cuttery for example (which does a nicer job). My stylist could not even shave my neck correctly--missed spots. Billed as an upscale salon for men, this place is nothing special at all--big deal they give you a hot towel for your face and offer you a pop while you wait. Perhaps I just got the wrong person on my visit, but I would not recommend 4:59--save your money folks. read more

The best haircut that a guy can get in Indy. You know how at some barber shops, you need to make a reservation with a certain barber because everybody else there sucks? Not here. Just about everybody at 4:59 can give you a top-notch haircut. I've only had one mediocre haircut out of about 10 different trips with a different person cutting my hair each time. 4:59 has cool decor with cherry wood on the walls. Each cutting station has a TV playing ESPN. They make you feel comfortable to be a guy. It's not a frou-frou salon...but if you're a frou-frou fella, they've got what you need (manicures, pedicures, etc.). The staff is friendly and good with customer service (they offer a free soda when you check in). Most of the staff is attractive too...not that it matters regarding a haircut, but it doesn't hurt, am I right? I would give them a 5 if the prices were cheaper. To me, $28 is a lot of money for a haircut. They do a great job though so I suppose they can afford to charge more than the average barber shop. read more

Whatever you do, do not get your hair cut by the owner. She's the older woman who smells like cigarettes. She rushed through my hair cut and when I asked her to straighten out some of the parts sticking out she didn't really do anything but make it worse. She pretends like she knows what she's doing but she had no idea to cut hair. Then when she was washing my hair she scrubbed my scalp so hard that I started bleeding. This is the worst hair cut I've gotten for how much I paid. $32 plus tip got me an awful cut that I could have gotten from one of my friends with no experience. Because of the price and location, you would assume that this place would be somewhat nice and of high quality from the people to attitudes, but I saw nothing that warranted the high prices. read more

I love getting my haircut here. Like everyone I used to go places like Sports Clips or Great Clips before deciding to switch over to an actual barber. I tried a few other barber shops in The area and had some pretty good experiences elsewhere but nothing could compare to the service that I received at 4:59. read more

I grew up getting my haircuts from old, grizzled barbers like my father and grandfather before me and always swore I would never veer away from that family tradition. After getting a job downtown and moving to Broad Ripple, I knew I didn't want to travel across town just for a haircut at my old barber, so I started looking for new options. I ended up giving 4:59 a shot in spite of my background and I didn't regret it. They have found a nice middle ground between the older barber shops and the newer luxury that mainly target women. I wanted to update my look a bit and Savannah was able recommend a slightly different look that fit perfectly with what I wanted. I also ended up really enjoying the light spa elements (free soda/coffee, brief head massage with shampoo, hot towel, etc) that they incorporate into their services. It's also worth mentioning that Savannah left rather suddenly after I had been having her cut my hair for about 6 months and 4:59 was able to quickly swap me over to another girl (whose name I sadly forget) who was just as talented. Although I don't live in the area anymore, I plan on getting my haircut here whenever I make it back in to town. It's a little pricier than I'd prefer to pay, but my experience has been that it's worth it. Give it a shot if you want something beyond the Supercuts and the old school barbers. read more

I have been going here for years. I don't go for every hair cut, because they are somewhat expensive. However, you absolutely get what you pay for, and as a guy, that means something. For starters, no matter who you have, the experience is great. All the ladies there are very personable, and all of them are experts in what they do. They take their time with each cut, and go the extra effort to make sure you're happy with your new do. Whether you want an old school pompadour or a high and tight fade, you'll leave feeling great. They do a straight razor shave for your neck line, which always makes you feel that little bit fresher. They offer full shaves (which as a bearded fellow I have never had), but they also offer massages. Frankly if you want an absolute professional cut with a great environment, I will tell anyone that it is worth the price. And as an added bonus... a lot of local celebs come here too. Been living in Chicago for the past four years and have been going to Belmont Barbershops for a while now. Since moving to Indy, I wanted to find some place that was similar that had great haircuts with affordable prices. 4:59 is definitely that place. Gave this place a try a few weeks back and just now getting around to reviewing it! It's a nice shop more upscale than your typical barber shop. Nice professional atmosphere, but not stuffy like some of the places in Carmel. They did a great job getting me in quickly seeing as I didn't have an appointment. I had Stephanie and she did a great job and she gave a killer scalp massage. The best cut I've had since I moved to Indianapolis from the west coast. Looking around during my appointment I saw lots of happy looking guys with great haircuts so I had some real peace of mind going into it. Price wise it's a little on the higher side for men's haircuts but I'd say it's worth it. You get a shampoo, they style your hair, and shave your neck with your haircut so you're looking good and ready to go back to work when you're done, which was great for me because that's where I was headed next. I have been going to 4:59 for about a year now. Every time i walk in the door I receive a warm greeting and a very relaxing atmosphere. This is a professional high end Men's Barbershop. My barber's name is Kelli and she is fantastic. She is well versed in the latest styles and always leaves me looking Saturday night ready from my facial hair to a line up I am always well taken care of. Also the hot towel never hurts after a long day at the office. I have also been cut by Alyssa and Sarah who did a great job as well. I am glad I have finally found an establishment that I trust with my manscapping needs and not have to worry about the finished product. They have my business from here on out! read more

Let me tell you why I will not be returning to 4:59 Barber Lounge. I gave any stars at all for having a nice establishment but as far as service goes, the worst I've experienced. The first few times I visited went alright, I got different hairdressers each time mostly because I wanted to feel the place out and see if I could find someone who is good at their job and knows exactly how I want it every time I come in. The results varied in different areas: getting someone with a bubbly personality, timeliness of the entire cut, being able to skillfully use a buzzer on my head, etc... Based on what I have seen from other customers coming in for a trim, quickly getting the result they wanted, and off on their merry way, I didn't think my cut would be that difficult. I have a head full of thick hair and my preferred style short and modern, that is not the problem. My most recent visit was a walk-in, so once again I got somebody different. I hadn't been in for a while so I was a little overdue. I explained to my hairdresser what I wanted and I was precise in my direction but something told me she wasn't exactly getting it. We were THIRTY MINUTES into the haircut when her 1 'oclock showed up, she then sat me down in the empty chair next to hers where I waited there for her to complete her next client in order to finish my haircut. Note, I said I don't use any product at all and she generously applied it throughout my hair, despite saying that upfront, I walked out with my hair feeling stiff and gunky. Upon checking out she asked me what I would have had her do differently next time, which is when I realized there wouldn't be a next time. $35+ every time is paying too much for such an ordeal, sorry guys. read more

Sherri Walker is my go-to person without thinking twice. I go to her for general upkeep on my longer hair and have her do a full-service scenario on my beard. I generally do a full trim and then a straight-razor line-up if I need it at the time. Precise, relaxing, and I can put my full trust in her to do what's right for me. It's a relaxing experience that I always look forward to a week in advance since I am in Sherri's very capable hands. The shop is also very reasonably priced which is another reason I don't hesitate to go there. The ultimate mix between price and quality. Do not hesitate. read more

Not worth the $28+ it cost for a basic haircut. The skills of the hairstylist are mediocre at best. Certainly not worth paying $28 for. The place is dirty, the girls look like they've partied long and hard for too long. This place is a little sketchy. They did shave my neck wig a straight razor which was a plus, but I've never been to a barber who didn't put in a brand new blade before using the same one on me. I watched the girl cut the previous guys hair and shave his neck with e same straight razor, but I never saw her change the blade. I also asked for a razor shave on my face I love how my shave lasts when I have it done, but they told me hey don't even have an actually licensed barber working there and no one who worked there could shave me cause none of gem have licenses to shave my face. I would say this is a definite pass. They used to be good 5 years ago but now it's run down and washed up. read more
