The ladies that work here are so kind and personable! You start off with rocks, gems, and arrowheads that lead to rooms filled with the history of Guntersville. You then enter a large exhibit room with a mural painted on the floor. You finish with a room filled with local art. They had a scavenger hunt with candy at the end once you finish. The cost is $5 for adults, worth the price. Free parking on the side of streets, we had no issues on a Saturday afternoon. No crowds, wear your mask. Once you enter pay the fee to the friendly host, and she explains the self your & will start the video when you are ready. Don't miss the video, lots of history of how the museum started and where the items came from. I loved the decor and all the memorabilia. A few items came from abroad per the host. The place is spacious and absolutely beautiful! It was a step back in time but in a more modern form. They have done a excellent job with all the items, explanations are on everything. You need at least 1.5hrs if you really read and stroll thru without rushing. There is a patio out pack with seating if you wanna have a cold cola! They sell drinks, snacks and a few souvenir items. Put this on your list to do in Cedartown if your in the area, its completely different from the one in Atlanta. I was completely surprised, glad I spent some time here!

History: The Fort Payne Depot Museum is one of the few surviving nineteenth-century railway terminals in Alabama. Located on the main thoroughfare in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, it features a large collection of Native American artifacts as well as holdings that illustrate the history of the region and the railroad era. The Fort Payne Depot was constructed in 1891 by the Alabama Great Southern Railroad. Fort Payne was a main stop on the line, with two express mail trains and as many as six passenger trains daily. The depot was a passenger station for 79 years. Among the most notable people to use or pass through the station were Milford Howard, one of the nation's leading populists The depot served passengers until 1970, when passenger service was dropped. After that, it served trains hauling freight only and housed an agent. The following year, the Alabama Historical Commission, Landmarks of DeKalb County, and the City of Fort Payne worked together to have the landmark placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1973, a local group called Landmarks of DeKalb expressed interest in obtaining and preserving the depot. Railroad officials agreed to trade the depot to the organization in exchange for a building in another location. In July 1983, freight service was halted by approval of the Public Service Commission, and the depot remained empty for a year. In 1986, the nonprofit Landmarks of DeKalb Inc., and its board of directors was created to save the depot building after it was threatened with being torn down. The group decided to put a museum into the building. To fund the building's renovation, Landmarks of DeKalb Inc. and the City of Fort Payne were able to secure funding through grants. The exterior of the structure was renovated that same year; it is constructed from pink sandstone with a copper roof, and the interior is finished in native pine and plaster. On October 12, 1986, the depot was dedicated as a museum. Five years later, on October 13, 1991, the depot celebrated its 100th anniversary. Also on the grounds is a 30-foot trailer that contains a collection of 94 dioramas, small, intricate scenes created by Italian artist Steve Fiora between 1915 and 1934 out of plaster of Paris and wire mesh. The dioramas, donated by L. A. Shankles, feature characters and settings from fairy tales, historical scenes, and scenic representations. The museum is run by a 12-member board of directors and is funded through grants, donations, and the City of Fort Payne. The museum has a curator and one staff member, as well as several volunteers.

Unfortunately we were on the road and had to be somewhere. It was my first trip to the beautiful state of Alabama and I was very impressed. It is a beautiful state with it's rolling hills and lush plants and greenery all over. I must give a shout out to the two ladies we met outside the Museum. We were taking pictures and when my friend mentioned it was my first time in Alabama, they welcomed me. Lots of southern friendliness and I so wish I could have stayed longer! I would love to come back to the Depot Museum and Alabama in general some day.

Inside to the right is a Ron filled with novelty's of wine products (including their wine jelly which is wonderful!!!) The tasting counter is beautiful! Hand made from wood by the owner. High shine and Gorgous grain! The whole shop is cute and decorated pretty with fun table and chairs, accents that make it homey and inviting. Our host, Kaylen, was wonderful. Very informative and fun to chat with. She made us welcome and offered some neat ideas of how she uses the wine jellies as a meal base in cooking! Their wines were nice, not overly sweet (a couple sweet options) we opted for a wonderful Riesling. I don't usually go white but theirs was bright, refreshing and not much tannin. I purchased it to go with a seafood dish! Can't wait to open it! Tip: no food or snack tray options available. They don't have signature glasses to buy.

Unbelieveable! Although this is not the first production of this company, it is the first major…read moremusical they have produced, and it performed at two venues, the Cedartown Civic Auditorium and in Rome at the DeSoto Theatre. The cast was mostly very young, but the hard work was so evident from the production I saw in Cedartown, which was actually the final dress rehearsal that I had been invited to see since I would be out of town for the actual performances. My wife and I enjoyed seeing the show again so much, which we have seen many times professionally and in fact I even played Old Deuteronomy ten years ago! But these kids sang and danced their hearts out, and the set was very simple and yet effective, and the costumes and props were magnificent. I knew many of the performers but did not even recognize many of them until well into the show because of the excellent make-up. This production was surely just as good as many of the others I have seen. Director Don Rusaw once again outdid himself on this third reincarnation of his "Cats"-life ;-) and musical director Donna Hester excelled with the beautiful singing she coaxed forth from these kittens.
