9/9/2025 - I visited the old & traditional American bar and met a couple in the bar. Patrick invited me to sit next to him and volunteerily offered to buy me a craft beer named IPA twist creek, this is a 5 star IPA beer with the right cold temperature I can't find on the cruise ship. Stopped by 49'er Bar in Ketchikan and had a Coors Light. Pretty standard bar, nothing fancy, just a place to grab a drink.

Draft beers here are good... vibe was cool... old school wood bar, with old school vibes...

Visited Ketchikan off a cruise ship. We walked in at 10am after seeing this being a 49er bar and because we are 49er fans! Sadly the woman bartender did not seem happy to have us there. We offered three separate "Good morning!" greetings, but no response and no acknowledgment at all. She wasn't happy that we asked to try two beers that we hadn't tried before. Five of us intended to get a beer when we walked in but after not feeling wanted there, and since one of us already ordered a beer, only two others ordered - three out of five of us. She talked about the floods that happened yesterday & how peaceful it was that the two scheduled ships couldn't stop there. She also talked about the fact that tourists should be taught how to use the crosswalks. Being from a tourist filled place ourselves, we understand! Maybe she was just having a bad day?! This is probably a great local bar but I wouldn't recommend it to tourists. We moseyed down to The Arctic for a couple more drinks and felt welcomed & appreciated immediately! We ordered fish and chips from the adjacent restaurant and had Alaskan beer here. Big beers for $5! Fish and chips, calamari and poppers were delivered from next door. It isn't a tourist trap. Full of locals but it was a great lunch and fun place to sit and rest our feet before going back to the ship! read more

Stopped in this little Ketchikan bar walking back from hiking the Rainbird cliff trail and we were thirsty! The bartender was very friendly and set us up with a pint for $5 and a very strong vodka tonic. The atmosphere was great and the bar is clean. Service was quick. Pool tables in the back. Country music and hip hop. Next time in Ketchikan we'll check in for sure. Short walk to downtown and cruise port. read more

It is a no frills Alaskan bar. Good pool tables and the service has always been good. The bartenders are nice and there's a liquor store attached. It is a small Alaskan town, so if you're expecting something trendy, you're in the wrong place. read more

This is a dangerous place. Do not go here. The bartenders got really drunk and tried to assault me and my friend. We left the bar, walked to the waterfront to share a moment together. when we walked back to catch a cab the bartenders yelled at us and then chased us down the street trying to physically fight us. We didn't even talk to them until they started chasing us to threatening to " beat our asses. " read more

A little hidden gem in Ketchikan, this bar is very no-frills and charming. It seems to be a locals fave, which makes sense because there is an overall friendly and familiar vibe that sets the atmosphere. Jen the bartender is amazing; she makes you feel like you've known her all your life, even if it's only been a few minutes. The drinks are just as no-frills as the bar, which just makes you feel like you've walked into your local neighborhood watering hole. This place is a highly recommended stop for anyone, locals and tourists alike. read more

Beware of 3 foot deep trench down the right side of the 49er building. This trench is immediately beside the side walk with no paint to make it visible, no lighted path, and nothing to keep someone from falling into it. This company has already been served papers reguarding this hazard and I'm sure their insurance company knows as well, and still has done nothing to resolve the issue. As I know the ditch has been there for at least a year. Noted I have met 3 differant people that have been seriously injured and 2 of 3 hospitalized with fractures at this bar related to the trench on differant occassions. I get it people drink at bars and get tipsy. But that is no excuse for Ketchikan City Department, the Insurance Company or the Bar to let this keep going not taken care of. Please do not support this buisness, and if you absolutely have to get a beer here, check out the ditch and let the City of Ketchikan know your concern. read more

Do you like dive bars? If so, step right into the 49'er! This is an awesome little dive bar with a local feel. We ordered a local blonde ale which was tasty. The bartender mentioned in the other review was working and was kind to us. We had no issues. This was a great place to relax and have a brew while waiting for our excursion to begin. If I lived in the area, I could see myself being a regular here! read more

I stopped in at the dive bar across from the northernmost cruise pier in town, came in there for a beer only because they advertised wi-fi in a large sign on the outside of the building. It doesn't work. The bar wench is probably the worst server I have ever come across in America. As soon as I took one look at her, I was thinking of walking out . . . a tattoo-smothered gal (the first warning sign) in her late 30's with a black baseball cap nearly covering her eyes, giving her a kind of look like "Animal" from the Muppets, and wearing a low-cut black dress. I ordered a beer, and when I asked her about the wi-fi code, she said it works sometimes. I paid for my beer, (no thank you from her), so when I asked again for the wi-fi password, she said she couldn't hear me, so then I projected my voice and asked again, and she seemed to be insulted. She replied in a super-assertive way by saying, "The password is _______ Sir! " (whatever it was) spewing and mumbling the letters and numbers so fast I couldn't understand her, and then quickly moved away. When she didn't come back in my direction for a couple of minutes, I moved down to where she was, and said, "OK, tell me the password again SLOWLY. She mumbled it out again, so I said "Say it SLOWLY!" She says, teswuntothree . . . I got the 123 part, but still couldn't figure out what she was saying, and she says it again and then says TEST, you know like TEST! - T-E-S-T, like taking a TEST!!! I don't know if she was really being belligerent, or what, but she sure did have plenty of Attitude. So I went back to my table and looked for the wi-fi channels, and realized she hadn't told me which one it was. I tried the first available one, which was "Office", but the code didn't work. So I go back up to the bar and ask her, so which channel is it? She says "Office", and I tell her, well I tried that one, it didn't work, and she says, "I TOLD YOU IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK!! To which I told her I could see why the bar was so empty, and then she was spouting off some grump-trash-or-whatever . . . I later noticed a couple of signs behind the bar with crap like the one that said, "I wasn't born a BITCH, men like you make me that way". You won't find me wasting my few extra dollars here ever again. Taking abuse from a wack-job is not my idea of a good time. The beer was not bad. read more
