There's a number of reasons to visit this unique bar in Ketchikan. Its history comes from the family that owns it. You can read about that history on their website. They have a big collection of old ship and shipwreck photos decorating the walls. I also saw what looked like an antique painting of gamblers in the Gold Rush period, as well as some old historical memorabilia. It was like walking into a different time period with all the décor and wood paneling. We had a choice of a beer or a cocktail. We chose the Sourdough Mule. Apparently, tequila and ginger pair well together. It was good, but I liked the Bear Skat shot the best. Who knew that Blueberry Vodka would make such a big difference in the flavor? My husband really liked the Butt Hole shot. I didn't get to try it, but he said it was pretty good. We didn't get to stay long. It was our last pub crawl stop. It's worth finding this place. It has a corner bar vibe and eclectic decor to match without the "you ain't from around here" looks. The barkeep was friendly and helpful. Apparently, the only brewery in Ketchikan has a premium price so it doesn't sell well and is not available. The Red Ale out of Anchorage was a great recommendation. Our server at the Ketchikan distillery pointed us to this place. We wanted to look at their selection of local product in the liquor store area- and we were not disappointed. They have a nice selection of local Alaska distilled alcohol. I had never wanted to stand in the giant line in Juneau for the Amalga distillery in Juneau- but they had the gin at the Sourdough. So I am now the proud owner of a bottle of Amalga gin- thank you Sourdough! I found the gentleman who helped is pick out our bottle extremely helpful and knowledgeable. read more

I didn't fee like a tourist and locals were even buying us drinks! if someone rings the bell, they buy everyone drinks! crazy! lots of locals that seemed like were mostly fishermen coming in for their after a long day out on the water, drink. Went here after walk to Creek Street park and had a few then headed to Stan's Pizzeria..... mistake as we were told bar is open but the kitchen may open at 1130 or never lol anyhow back to Sourdough bar the absolute best we had to come back Linda was amazing nice friendly and didn't care that we were tourist which I feel a true establishment shouldn't. Went back the second time for the day and Connor was there also amazing .... Both totally down to earth and good vibe all around if and when I ever come back to Ketchikan I will only visit this place I rather go hungry and die of thirst then try that pizzeria again read more

If I could give ZERO STARS I would.. Today (August 22nd, 2022) the bitter older bartender was rude and didn't even offer alternatives when I asked for a Lemon Drop then a vodka and lemonade (when she said she didn't make Lemon Drops).. I was told the vodka & lemonade was complicated and she "does not make complicated drinks".. I get it that all bars aren't created equal but I also know that every bar I ever went to if they didn't make what I asked for or didn't have the ingredients for it they offered an alternative.. When I asked her what does she make she didn't say anything so I ended up asking a fellow customer (nonlocal who was white) what did they got and asked for that.. Those customers seemed uncomfortable and noticed the poor service I received.. Also I did not get exactly what that customer got as her cup was bigger.. Poor/horrible service and didn't deserve a tip at all.. I am not a local plus I'm not white so I will say that bartender (older white woman) didn't care for tourists let alone non white customers. I'll never go back. I went to another bar not too far away (Fat Stan's) and had a better experience which I highly recommend. Zero stars if I could.. Didn't deserve a tip.. Worst bar experience I've ever had anywhere.. Drink was terrible.. Vodka with club soda or something yuck..! If you want to be mistreated for being a person of color, and a nonlocal by all means go and be sure to order drinks like a lemon too or even more complicated drinks like a vodka and lemonade (sooooo complicated) and not be offered an alternative.. read more

Great service and great location right next to where the cruise ships doc. My husband and I did our tours and decided it was time for a drink or 2. Cash only so make sure you are prepared. We sat at the bar right down from the owner. We didn't talk to him but listened to him and his stories. Prices were very reasonable and the location was perfect. We felt welcome. We did try going to the bar across the street and looked inside and felt if you were not a local you may not make it out alive. All in all...this place was great. Cruises to Alaska = Fun. Drinks on cruises = Expensive. Port Cities in AK = cheaper drinks and funner atmosphere. Yeah, those are pretty much your answers for Alaskan cruises. Drinks on board can be a little pricey so when we docked in Ketchikan I (sort of) kiddingly said we should go to a bar. 10:00 a.m. may not be the prime time for a drink, but my friend enthusiastically agreed. It was cold, rainy and we needed a distraction. After asking a local they recommended Sourdough. He explained there were pictures covering the walls of damaged ships. Sort of a wall of shame, and he said we should see him and his boat. So of course, we had to. The bar is pretty no-frills but the locals and the bartenders were awesome. Cheap, strong pours of the good stuff and not so good stuff. We ordered two Long Islands and our bartender accidentally made too big of a pour and decided to go ahead and just make us 3. Score. With drinks in hand we migrated to the pool tables and for a whopping 50 cents you can play a game (or 4). They also had an electronic console where you were a Polar Bear but instead of hitting pins you hit Penguins. I thought it was funny. Awesome dive bar with cushion pads around the bar. Old school!!! It's usually full of salty fishermen and crusty locals. Which is why it is so great! I'm pop in every Monday (I work on a cruise ship docked in Ketchikan each Monday) to see my fave bartender Jesse. He makes great bloody Mary's and greyhounds. I love this place!! read more
