Had one of the meat and three meals, which was just average. Mashed potatoes were good but talapia was obviously frozen and everything else was bland. My other table mates ordered burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Their meals looked better than mine. Sweet tea was good, sodas are in plastic bottles. Enviroment was quaint and nicely decorated. There are very nice looking deserts out front, but I did not partake in those. Think the place is open for breakfast and lunch. Prices very reasonable, easy to eat for $10 a person. read more

The food is so-so. The building is a cute old house and makes it fun to bring family or visiting friends. There are so very few options in Portland. They have a small gift area in the front along with some great looking desserts. While at my visit two of the waitstaff were arguing in front of the dinning room. Very unprofessional. I'm sure this was just an isolated event, but no managers stepped in to correct the problem. read more

I am very disappointed at this place. I have probably eaten here a dozen times. It is a novelty when going through Portland. It is the most "upscale" place in town to eat, and that is sad. They do a few things well. Breakfast - Great with a good selection and fresh to order. The Gift Shop is also good with many items to choose from if you are a lady. Not many items men would want in this gift shop. I am a little less enthusiastic about lunch, but they do have some good fresh salads, soups and sandwiches. The baked goods are good, but no need to drive all the way to Portland to get them. You can find better. Now for dinner what you get is canned and frozen items. It seems like after lunch the cut off some kind of switch and stop serving the fresh food and shift to fried frozen stuff with canned veggies. Hello, the fresh food is what tastes best. They have a good crowd for Breakfast and Lunch; dinner is not always as big of a hit. The hours are silly too. I think they are now only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday, but they change so much it is hard to tell. read more

Used to be my favorite place to eat. Not sure what is going on. The last three times we have been there things have been less than par. Not sure if they have changed cooks/suppliers but it is lacking. The atmosphere is outstanding and I love the gift shop. read more

I love to lunch at 5 Chefs, and did so weekly from 2004-8. Went back in July 2019 and again in Aug, and nothing has changed. Good food, prices, atmosphere and oh yes, the cakes. Thanks Phyllis for taking good care of our Porsche Club. read more

Cute place, wonderful staff, enjoyed my salad. The little shop attached to it was very cute as well

Employees were friendly and attentive. Tea was good. House salad was good - made up of mixed greens, not just iceberg lettuce. Ranch dressing was just okay. Fried pickles were good - they are spicy so take that into consideration. The food wasn't exotic but decent food at a reasonable price. The decor was pleasant. I'd go back and take my parents. Breakfast and Lunch only restaurant. EXCELLENT food. Fresh, tasty, and reasonable price. Ambience is unmatched. Service is top knotch. Desserts...home made and too numerous to count. No wonder 5 Chefs is the #1 tourist destination in Portland. Not unusual for folks to drive 1-2 hours just to enjoy the experience. Bus groups frequent the restaurant, as well as an occasional Nashville BIG NAME entertainer! Great place! Visit soon. read more

I have eaten here several times. I would eat there often but they are not open often. From what I could see on my several visits, it is mostly a tea room kinda venue. A tad pricy. I like tea rooms!!! Don't know how five chefs can make a living opening mostly for lunch and breakfast and never on Sunday. Hy 109 Family Restaurant is jam packed and they do need some competition. read more

Used to be the best place in Portland for breakfast, but now you might as well go to mcdonalds down the street. The customer service is horrid. When calling in an order you usually get a young girl who clearly wants to be somewhere else. Not so much as a thank you. Upon arriving, plan to wait before anyone even acknowledges you, and then wait again for them to find someone who can work the register. The food isn't nearly as good as it once was either. With so few nice places to eat in Portland, its a shame this place is now one to avoid. read more

Stopped in for lunch because I really wanted a salad. I was very pleased with the choices. My pecan cranberry chicken salad was delicious. Ok so the manager or whoever runs the FB page deleted my comments and blocked me. First of all, this place use to be awesome!!!! They have gone wayyyyy down hill. They use to have salad bar (took that away) - they use to do meat and 3 (took that away) - and prices have skyrocketed. This is suppose to be "gourmet" type of food, very cheap and ehhh kinda food. You can get the some quality at 109 for a fraction of the cost. Very over priced here but let me say the deserts rock!!! But they have a lady that makes those!!! So if you want some cake or chocolates I would recommend 5 chefs only for that! They refuse to improve so I won't be back! read more

I travel to Portland for business from time to time. This is my favorite spot for lunch. Food is good and serves is friendly, just wish they were open for dinner as well. Save room for their cakes if you can, they are delicious but made daily and once they are out of a certain kind that's it for the day. My friend had recommended this restaurant for months and a group of four of us went today. They do not take reservations for groups of less than five people. My friend suggested we leave early to get a table. We picked the wrong day - there were several large groups and they were packed. We waited for over an hour for a table only to be seated out in the porch area. The wait staff was very nice, although harried. We ordered our food and waited about fifteen minutes. Two of our orders were wrong. My one friend wanted a hamburger and specified NO Cheese - she got a cheeseburger. I ordered a chicken wrap and got beef. So two of us sent our orders back. After fifteen minutes the correct orders came. My friend was very pleased with her delicious hamburger - however, my chicken wrap, at best, could be compared to the left over coffee grinds at the bottom of the pot. It came on a plate loaded with French fries. It was the worst chicken wrap I ever had. It was supposed to have ranch dressing on it - hardly any. I honestly feel that they should not have served me this awful dish. I should have sent it back, but didn't for three reasons. The first is that after waiting so long for a table I didn't want to wait again. Secondly, our waitress was very busy and stressed - and not easy to find - although she did try, and third, I didn't want to embarrass the girl who recommended this place. To be fair, my friends all enjoyed their food - besides the hamburger the other ordered salads and they looked great - the chicken on them looked wonderful and I was sorry I didn't order that. The place itself is very cute and charming - if you don't get stuck out on the porch area. All the other food that came out looked great!!! I feel, however, that for bringing out the wrong food and all the inconvenience we should have at least been offered a free dessert, which we weren't. I do plan to go back again sometime - and realize that maybe around 12:30 or a little later would be a better time to go if you can't get there when they open. The place was very crowded and I am sure they were overwhelmed. I am only trying to be fair. I am not in the habit of complaining and I wish they had an e-mail like other places do to voice my discontent. read more
