You definitely don't go here for the atmosphere-you go for the food. It was a cold night and I was in the mood for some ma la flavors to get warm. I had seen this restaurant a couple of times so decided to give them a try. It is a small place, with four tables that seat four people, and a couple that seat two. One of the side walls is covered with printouts of a number of the dishes, which can be helpful for those that don't know what some of the dishes look like. There is only one person working both the register and the tables, so patience is appreciated here. Did I mention earlier that I was cold? We walked over from the parking lot under the highway (free on Saturday nights) and was very chilled by the time we entered. Cold and hungry, we ordered lamb with cumin and ma la pot chicken. My companion ordered snow pea tips and vegetable mei fun. To start, we split an order of pan fried vegetable dumplings. The waitress checked to be sure that we wanted all that food for two people-the ma la pot chicken alone is big enough to split between two people (or one VERY hungry person). Reassuring her that we wanted all that food, we settled down to wait. The dumplings came out first, and we are still trying to decide what the filling was comprised of. Carrots, cabbage and....daikon? Not sure, but it was delicious and increased our expectation for the rest of the meal. Next came the ma la pot chicken and I immediately understood why she wanted to confirm our order. I definitely was not finishing all of that in one sitting. The chicken had some lovely crunchy bits around the edges and while the dish itself is dry, the chicken was not. The ma la flavor filled my mouth and warmed my stomach. Lamb with cumin is a great dish to pair with rice, and half a bowl of rice was gone before I even blinked. My companion noted that their vegetable mei fun was flavorful and not oily although the snow pea tips could have been more tender. Overall, the meal was flavorful and a prefect choice on a cold night. I need to come back here and try out a couple more dishes that I usually order, and try a new one or two (spicy and sour potato, shredded???). Yes please!! read more

First off...why is it so hard to find asian restaurants or even markets around here?! Second, thanks to the staff for letting me know where we can find a market. Brought my dad along for my mini vacation and he wanted something to eat with rice, also picky eater. My parents ordered the spicy squid, fish and beef. 5 Grains is dad approved, even though I didn't eat much of it since it was too spicy. One thing I agreed with was that unlike the dishes back at home, it didn't feel greasy. They also do really well with spice, so if you're a weakling like me, you may want to order something else. I have mixed feelings about this place. Their lunch menu is pretty solid if you are looking for cheap and reasonable Chinese food. Their orange chicken isn't bad (but not superior to other competitors). I used to get their spicy beef stir fry which is again ok. The spicy dry pot, which I had two times, has way too strong flavor. I wish they did little less mala spice and it would've been a decent dish. I don't think I will get that again. GREED Ok, so the food is not bad, but I gave the 2 star review due to greed. I was eating alone yesterday and decided to order. Since their website, menu linked to Yelp went to a non-existent page, I couldn't see their prices or menu. So I called up and ordered for "Black Pepper Chicken". The person informed me that the amount would be $15.88 which appeared steep for 1 chicken dish at a Chinese Restaurant. I agreed and within 30minutes the food arrived. The delivery guy handed me the food and I handed over a $20 bill and waited for the balance. The guy stood there, looking at me as if I shouldn't be expecting the $4+ balance. Now, I am all for tipping food delivery men, but I was not planning for tip $4+ for a $15.88 delivery, what is that like 25%? Now at this point, the person demanded that I pay tip and I decided to check out the receipt. So, on top of the $12.95 food & Tax ($0.92) they already charged me a gratuity (???) of $1 and gas free of $1, he wanted a few dollar tip. Irritated I handed him another $1+ and walked off. This is considered one of those quick grab some Chinese food take out type places and it's actually pretty nice. It's not like those cheesey Chinese take out places you see everywhere, they actually present their restaurant a lot nicer than most and the food itself is actually pretty darn good for Chinese take out. When you actually eat in instead of taking out the plating is a lot nicer than some other Chinese take out and you almost feel like you're eating at an actual "restaurant." This is a nice place to grab some cheap Chinese food, I really recommend the black pepper chicken and the beef and broccoli. Their calamari and beef chow fun are my usual go-tos here. Excellent wok taste. I love the taste of their calamari, with a little of peppercorn to give an extra kick, along with the usual canto sat and pepper taste. I'll have to try their salt pepper pork next time. It's convenient and their lunch specials are very affordable. I won't go crazy and tell you this place is high on my list of Chinese food places, but it's quick and easy and I always get service with a smile. Seriously though-the food is ok. Their lunch combos are standard fare and if you order from the regular menu they are pretty pricey. Their 'spicy' dishes, aren't really spicky-adding a couple of kung pao peppers doesn't automatically make something spicy people. The noodle dishes are usually pretty good-try the Singapore Chow Mei Fun... As a self professed egg-roll snob I wouldn't give their egg-rolls two stars. Very small (half the size of any egg-roll I've ever had) and really not filled with the egg-roll goodness I love. However, the last time we ordered it took them 1.5 hours to reach us. I ended up calling to the restaurant only to be told that they were running behind. Also, I have an infant and placed on the order to please ring the bell and we'll buzz you up as I have done on other occasions. Instead the driver called when he arrived and insisted on us coming downstairs to the street. I informed him that this wasn't possible due to my child and he didn't care. Therefore, I went down in the rain with my infant to the street for food. As a result, I didn't tip. Fast forward, I ordered again and received a call from the restaurant asking me if I planned on tipping. I was appalled and tried to explain to her tipping wasn't obligatory and the reason he didn't get a tip was due to the lack of customer service in the delivery process during the previous order. She explained that the driver only makes money from the tips. I kindly explained tips are based on exemplary service and are not mandatory. The shrimp Shumai tasted like it had imitation crab in it. The wonton soup had a metallic weird taste that I was not a fan of. There was no dimension of flavor to the broth at all. Fried rice was greasy and heavy. The best thing I ate was the shrimp egg roll. Even after calling to confirm, they forgot our chopsticks I requested. But I can live with that. A little less moist that if it were fresh. The fish filet was coated with egg and flower and it paired well with the tofu, which was the fried : dried AGE style. The brown sauce that came with t was good, nothing special however I wish they would give a little more, because my dish ran dry before all the rice was gone.
