I was so thrilled to find a chinese restaurant open during these times of lockdown that I didnt mind getting on the highway and driving some towns away for takeout. Unfortunately, my household and I were deeply disappointed with the $60 dollar worth of food we ordered. Not only was it overpriced but it was gross. The beef and broccoli and eggplant with garlic sauce were full of oil and bland, my pork duplings smelled and tasted weird which I suspected to be rancid so I had toss it out, and my egg roll was overfried not golden but brown. Thus place didn't look open at first, but I only discoved it was opened after checking their hours on Yelp. We just got a eel & avocado sushi & spicy tuna roll. We were the only ones in the restraunt and the guy who looked like the manager was struggling with the POS system and the credit card machine. Food was prepared quickly, and we ate it in the car. It was very dark inside the restraunt. The sushi was okay. It was still warm from the rice, but the sushi wasn't that flavorful. It came with Wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce. It was okay for the price of $12 for the sushi. I probably wouldn't come here again, but it's a good place to visit when no other place is opened. I think they're hot food is probably better, and the sushi is definitely something they just do on the side. But it was quick and less messy than hot food. read more

This place has become my go-to Chinese spot even though it's about a 15 to 20 minutes drive from my house. I stumble upon it one day leaving my son's Barbershop and have been hooked ever since. This is not you're basic Chinese food. And what I mean by that is that the meat that you order is the actual meat that you get. Not that rubbery questionable meat you get at other spots. I love that they have a very pleasant dining area if you wish to dine in even though the waiter can be a little pushy. I love their lo mein, their fried rice, beef and broccoli, mei fun, egg rolls, mango shrimp. Everything so far has been really yummy! read more

I order lunch for our office from here once in a while and generally have fresh sushi. We usually order the peppered tuna wraps, avocado salad, pineapple rice, the philly roll, tuna roll, and the california. All are made fresh and tastes delicious. The only good place in the area for decent sushi and Chinese food. I've ordered and dined at Chinatown multiple times in the years I've lived in Harrison and no other restaurant has done better. Food is average to good - depending on what you order. They actually do well on authentic Chinese dishes and sushi rolls. In terms of dining experience, the restaurant is clean, interior is nice, and there is a sushi bar for those who want to see the sushi chef make the rolls for delivery and dine in. The sushi chef is very nice and accommodating and the service is great! Delivery time is average, order has always been correct, food is warm and there is no spillage every time I've ordered which I consider a big plus. They're also open on most holidays! read more

My family came here for a birthday dinner and had the private room upstairs so I can't comment on other parts of the restaurant. The restaurant is located not far from the exit off 280 and easy to find. There is street parking and also a garage nearby. I somehow lucked out and got a street spot right out front - a good omen for the evening! My mother had pre-ordered our dinner selections so I don't think everything we had was on the menu. However, it was all delicious! We started off with scallion pancakes, which I missed since I was in traffic. The first entree item brought out to us was the crispy fish fillet. Only half of us eat seafood, so it was more than enough for our party of 7. The fish was very fresh and absolutely delicious - flaky on the inside and crispy on the outside. We then received several dishes at once - Peking duck, Mongolian beef, chicken with broccoli, Peking pork chops, sauteed pea shoots, and mixed vegetable bean curd soup. They wrapped the Peking Duck in their pancakes table-side, which is always a fun experience. Peking pork chops are my sister's favorite, and these didn't disappoint. The sauce was sweet and tangy, enveloping the thin, crispy chops without making them soggy. As we were fighting each other off to get to our favorite dishes, the final dish was brought out - lobster. I didn't see it on the menu, so I'm sure it was special ordered. It was honestly the highlight of the meal for me. There was a little scuffle as we all reached for the claws, but there were more than enough pieces to go around. The sauce was very flavorful (garlic, ginger, scallion, and spices), and the lobster was cooked perfectly. The meal was finished off with sweet red bean soup and birthday cake for dessert. I was too stuffed to really eat much of it, but the few sips/bites I had were tasty. Since my mom grabbed the check as soon as it was brought up, I have no idea how much everything cost. All I know is, it was delicious. Not sure what the atmosphere is like downstairs, but the private room was great for us since we tend to get a bit loud and silly when we're all together. The space gave us some privacy so our shenanigans wouldn't disturb other patrons, but took away the chance to look at what other people ordered. We're already planning our next trip back where I will hopefully get to try some of the sushi! read more

I have been this place for many times given this is one the few Chinese restaurants in Harrison. But have been constantly disappointed by their service(both dine in and delivery), food and price. Service: Dine in Except for one young male server who is always very polite and friendly, I have never been treated politely by any others people work their out of many of my visits. I felt that I am judged by my outlook cause sometimes I just dressed casually. Also many times when I did not order enough food my server's face looked very bad. The owner sitter behind the counter, a young man, although had seen me many times when checking, looks very arrogant and unapproachable. Delivery: Be ready to ask for forks/chopsticks as well as paper tissues cause they don't even give that to you for delivery. When I called them to complain about this, they said: "I thought that you live in an apartment so you don't need that." Food: Food is 2-star standard. It's not fresh, portion is small, and too much MSG. But the flavor is authentic. They do know how to cook Shanghainess and Sichuan cuisine. Price: Over-priced in terms of food ingredient/quality and portion. Fair price should be 20-30% lower. In summary, very disappointed and will not visit again. Casual ambiance, but not as divey as most chinese joints. The food is always fresh and tasty. Deliver usually takes long, but do yourself a favor and eat in. You'll be glad you did. The restaurant inside is definitely better than ordering out... take the time to sit down. Dark wood decor and stone tables, with a sushi bar and upstairs is a nice place for weddings/receptions/parties. The food was great, though, Shanghainese food that filled you up... from delicious yellowtail steamed in soy sauce, to Chinese water spinach in garlic (light sauce!), spicy cold beef tendon (appetizer), chicken w/peppers (spicy!), fried soft-shell crab, salt-pepper-shrimp, and more delights that kept coming... filling, certainly, and they're definitely willing to take on larger groups that come in (we had 10). Fried duck was only okay, but the seven spice beef made up for that! The waitstaff speaks well, and they are attentive to needs. Dessert - standard mochi, but better was the tong yuan soup! I have one word to describe the food I had delivered from this place: inedible. The hot&sour soup was tasted like dirty hot water with lots of oil in it. The shrimp fried rice had a single small shrimp. It basically consisted of rice with lots of onions and some bits of eggs. And yes, also very greasy. The Mongolian beef, you can probably guess, salty and super greasy. I have not been that disappointed with a restaurant in a very long time. Mind you that I paid over $50 for this crap. read more

I ordered 2 specialty rolls (dynamite and Latin lover) for delivery at 5:20pm. By 6pm, it still had not been delivered, so I called the restaurant. A man answered and muttered something in a heavy accent. I kept saying hello, but could only hear him and others in the restaurant talking. I guess he said for me to hold?! After a few minutes, he came back on the phone. I informed him that I was wondering where my order was and that it had already been 40 minutes. He asked for my address and then told me the driver had already left. When I asked how long ago, he said I don't know, muttered something else, and then hung up. Thought that was rude! The delivery lady finally arrived at at 6:21pm. She was apologetic and explained that she had issues with the traffic and road blocks from the game at Red Bull stadium down the street. I still gave her a over 15% tip. I just ate the rolls and realized that they gave me a Dragon Roll instead of the Dynamite Roll that I ordered. Instead of spicy white fish I got fried shrimp tempura with avocado and eel. Ugh! The rolls were fine and they were a good size, but obviously annoyed that it took over an hour to get delivered and they got my order wrong! I'm a regular here and I highly recommend it. I usually stick to their Chinese dishes and haven't really tried their sushi. Service has always been friendly and quick. It's clean inside and great for date night or a family dinner. My favs: - General Tso's chicken or tofu - Wonton soup - Soup dumpings!! I forget what they're called, they're on a sign on the window... take about 20 minutes to make and are delicious - Scallion pancakes - Noodles & rice - Spring rolls etc etc etc. Only thing I would not recommend is the sweet & sour chicken because it comes in a batter and you have to dip it into the sauce, it's weird. Any time I've ever had an issue with my food (which is rare), they fix it immediately and truly value their customers. They are also open on holidays like Christmas. read more

I have to say I'm disappointed in Chinatown now because I used to come here often and really, really liked it. I don't come for the Chinese I come for the sushi so I cannot speak on that but after yesterda,y I'll probably only visit as a last resort if I have to. The dirty seaweed salad wasn't bad, although I wasn't a fan of them putting crunch on it because not only did it get mushy, but I believe it was a little old because it was stale, same as for the crunch on my rolls. And also it was just very, blah. Overall not their best day. I felt the sushi wasn't as fresh as it should be and that was evident in the color as well. I also didn't like that they're the only restaurant ever who has given me a hard time when I asked for the spicy tuna in my rolls to NOT have spicy mayo. The alternative being to only put the siracha instead. They tried to say taking out the mayo and replacing it with just tuna would be giving me more fish and therefore would cost me more. Umm, ew? The quanitiy of fish should NOT change because it's mixed with a sauce. Like how much are they putting in it?! No thanks. The scallion pancakes also were pretty good but still, I lack enthusiasm relaying that message. Probably the best thing I had that day though, still 2.5 to 3 stars for it AT BEST. The staff is kind, bathrooms clean, the location very convenient with the highway entrance RIGHT around the corner and a decent amount of street parking (meters only until 5), and the decor/ambiance very, okay. Let me start by saying that Chinese food is traditionally pretty greasy. Moving right along... I ordered the avocado salad. The ginger carrot dressing is very good. Avocado was ripe and delicious. My brother ordered the salmon and tuna sushis. He thought they were great. Unfortunately our entrees weren't as outstanding. The eggplant with garlic sauce that my mom ordered came piping hot but super greasy. Eggplant is a very absorbent fruit. From the slippery lubed flesh to the squishy greasy center, this dish exercised all characteristics. Flavor was nice though. My brother ordered the diced chicken with hot peppers. Again, way too greasy. Though my brother expressed a heart condition magnified by intensely oily food, the "manager" explained that it was not fair to her to replace the meal with another. um..okay. I ordered the Singapore Mei Fun. It was okay. Flavor was also pretty good but it wasn't hot. Overall, I like this place. I've been here several times and will continue to patronize. A chic little spot in Harrison, just near RT. 280, RT 21, and the NJ Turnpike. Decked out in red and dark wood, bits of gold, fish tank, and black clad service staff, this place has a touch of an identity crisis as far as the food offerings go. You would think that, due to the name alone, you were about to see a classic, NYC Chinatown menu complete with classic and traditional dishes. At least, that's what I was expecting. What I got was that, plus a lot of Japanese cuisine, including loads of sushi. Hmm...it bugs me when they just pool the two together, kinda generalizing two extremely different and dynamic cuisines. But, still, that's a subject for another forum, eh? We tried the satin fish with hot peppers. Looking like miniature dried sardines, these babies were salty as hell, and would have been a better condiment, side dish, or similar instead of an appetizer. We went through a full pot of the almost room temperature jasmine tea in under five minutes! The streaky pork with chestnuts was fantastic, as classic example of a Chinese braised dish. Simmered with soy and slightly sweet, hints of anise and ginger filled our nostrils. The meat itself was so tender and soaked with all of these wonderfully fragrant odors and flavors. The Chinese okra with soybeans and tofu was pretty decent. Very mild in flavor, the tofu were actually tofu puffs...hollow in the center. Strange in taste, almost as if the oil they were fried in was a bit off...flavored with other things that were fried long before the puffs jumped into the oil pool. Service was attentive,and the decor was modern, chic, and hip. Parking on the street is your only option, so scope out the beat for the best spot. A decent experience, with the pork dish being a big thumbs up. The other dishes, though...not so much. read more

I didn't really like the seared peppered tuna but that's probably just my preference. The other roll was pretty good. I don't like rolls with too much rice and I know this doesn't matter, but I hate squared rolls! My coworker had the sweet and spicy chicken with white rice. He said it was probably the best he ever had. We both had a miso soup, which came with the lunch specials- we both liked it a lot. There's something uniquely good about it. I'm not too crazy about their sashimi but their sushi is really great. Especially their specialty rolls which are good for throwing on the company credit card but not so much on yours. You can't go wrong with any of them and they will set you back between $11-$14 a roll but, damn are they good. If you are looking for really good Chinese food I'd suggest Golden Eagle down the street, but for a Shanghainese owned restaurant they do Japanese fare exceptionally well. However, I would still like to try their hot pepper and dried satin fish sometime. Table service is quick and easy and takeout is always spot on for me. They are meticulous about packing and placement of items as I've yet to have sushi and hot soup co-mingling, which is nice.
