Back in October of 2019 we flew over to Bend (from FL) to check out some vendors, see our venue, +…read moredo a "tasting" with a very well known local bakery. Much to our disappointment, I arrived at the bakery to find 4 very dried out cupcakes, no one to assist me, + anything but a tasting. (Yes, we had discussed a tasting via email weeks in advance; they knew we were coming.) As we drove around waiting for our next appointment my mom stumbled on these same reviews for Crumb Cakery + emailed Tara. Although we were unable to meet her on that trip, my mom insisted that she "just [had] a good feeling about Tara" so we should come back once more before the wedding to meet her. Mother's intuition... Spot on!! In January, after some shifts to our wedding plans, we made a trip out to Bend + met with Tara for a tasting. THIS WAS A TRUE TASTING!! From trying out multiple combinations to being encouraged to create our own; not to mention how absolutely delicious everything was. WE WERE SOLD! To be honest, we had not even wanted a cake but the family had pushed us to get one. As life would have it after the tasting we were reluctant to pick a flavor so we ended up choosing two for the cake + designing an entire dessert table for all 15 people (including ourselves) that would be attending the wedding. For months Tara + I messaged back and forth on how to bring this table to life + since we are from out of town she even made a run to Homegoods to pick out some display trays for us. Talk about going above + beyond! The sweets became one of our most anticipated parts of our wedding + our family could not wait to taste it all. The table display was gorgeous, everything tasted amazing, + the three boxes of leftover sweets were eaten the day following the wedding leaving us with only one box carrying our top tier to be taken back to FL with us for our anniversary! Tara is a dream to work with, a true pastry chef, + artist. If I lived in Bend, I'd go to her for all my confection needs. Please do not hesitate to contact her for whatever you need. You will not regret it! Thank you so much for everything, Tara. We love you!

I have been following Crumb Cakery for a while on Instagram. I contacted Tara and ordered a cake from the website. There are so many different options and selections to choose from. We ordered the cake two weeks out. Tara has messaged me along the way and kept me updated. I was told when the cake would be ready and when and where to pick it up. Everything went perfectly! The cake was beautiful, Tara was very punctual and it tasted amazing! Most importantly my daughter loved it. I can't recommend Crumb Cakery enough. If you are looking for a wedding cake, birthday cake or just something sweet to brighten your day, this is the place. Thanks so much for making our day and providing Bend with a "Real" bakery!

From the moment you step up to the counter, you are made to feel like a walking inconvenience. Today's adventure began when I politely asked, twice, to have my three donuts placed in a box, you know, because I was giving them as a gift and bags are not exactly the universal symbol of "I care about you." Request denied. Apparently boxes are rationed. We then ordered two jalapeño Aspen bagels, two drinks, and handed over nearly $60 without blinking. When the buzzer went off, my sister picked up our order only to discover one bagel was plain and one was correct. She went back up to flag the mix-up, and the same woman who took our order looked her dead in the eye and informed her that no, we had not ordered them the same way. And that was simply... that. Case closed. Court adjourned. The service is a firm 1/10. The food is so good it almost makes you forget you weren't wanted there. Almost. As a local, I'll be back, the food will make sure of that. But I'll definitely talk myself out of it a few extra times because of interactions like this. Life is too short to feel like a bother just for wanting your donuts in a box and to get what you order. 2 breakfast sandwiches, 3 donuts, 2 drinks = almost $60.

Bad news. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

They were simple and well-made and relatively strong. Very cute little location seating wasn't an issue, even though we didn't make reservation reservations ahead of time Just overall a very solid little spot, we got some sliders and some other little sides and everything was put together well and price right. Definitely acquired a place so probably good. We didn't bring the kids.
