Went for my Friday the 13th $31 special and got a quick dog paw. I am excited to have Tegan draw up something to spice up my semicolon tattoo. I will be back soon when I can have more done. The line was out the door from opening to way past close for this special. We could pick from one of the posted art pieces. They really prefer cash but will take a credit card for an extra fee. The place is clean and open. If you're not sure if you want one then go for a special and try it out. It really doesn't "hurt" as your mind would like to tell you. Once you get one...then you will be hooked and want more. So fun to be expressive of who you are. read more

This was honestly the worst experience I've had at a tattoo shop. It took me awhile to write a review, but this has been on my mind since it's been done. This place is unhygienic and has an extremely rude owner. She allowed her dog to jump on my chair while being tattooed. I had to ask multiple times for it to be removed, while she just laughed it off. She had friends in the shop waiting for her to go to dinner during my appt. She complained the entire time she did the tattoo about how she did not want to be there. The work was subpar and done so aggressively. Her fee does NOT equal her work or atmosphere she creates. She made me feel like I was such an imposition to her. It was money wasted and I should have stood up and walked out. I highly recommend going anywhere else than this place. My girlfriend recently got a tattoo here, she was very specific about the line-work, shading and style, explaining to Teagan with PHOTO REFERENCE what she did and didn't want. After seeing her initial stencil she wanted Teagan to redo a couple details. After a couple re-stencils Teagan began to become annoyed with the request. When the tattoo was nearly completed the line work was far thicker and messier than she had hoped. This as well as improper shading based on their earlier conversations about such a detail. Don't go to 5 Monkeys if you want to have a good first (or any) tattoo experience where you feel heard and respected with your opinions valued. read more

I went to 5 Monkeys on 7/25/22 and had the most amazing experience. I went in for a new tattoo (picture shown) and a touch up of a previous tattoo I got from a different shop. The space is clean and comfortable. Tegan did an amazing job on my artwork. She tied it in to something personal to me and made thoughtful recommendations. 5 Monkeys is aptly named-- The staff are very unprofessional. I had an appointment for 3pm. At 2:55pm I got a call from them asking if I wouldn't mind coming in at 4pm instead. Annoying, but ok fine-- shit happens. I go in at 4pm and they tell me the artist is still behind and ask if they can call me when he's ready. I was told it would be about 45 minutes. I reluctantly agree since they've wasted my time already. They finally call me to tell me he's ready 3.5 hours later at 7:30. A quality tattoo artist has a better idea of what pace they work at even factoring in difficult clients, and it's ridiculous that the shop would be 4.5 hours off in their scheduling. The artist told me "that's just how it is in this business"-- I have a sleeve and a chest piece. I've spent hours upon hours getting tattooed and those shops never pushed back my appointments at all let alone almost 5 hours. Then when I finally get to discussing my design, the artist tells me it will have to be simplified because "it's impossible" to get that much detail in a tattoo... which is absurd. I have quite a few tattoos, and I've seen plenty of tattoo work. I know what's possible. It's like he'd never seen better artists work. I don't want to call out the specific artist because he was nice and did a good job, but they need to work on their time management and professionalism if they want clients to return. AND THEN THE REAL KICKER: they don't have hourly rates. They have a shop minimum of $100 and then beyond that they literally just pull a number out of their asses after the fact! Are you kidding me? They ended up asking for $200 (plus tip) for 45 minutes of tattooing. High level artists can charge $200 an hour, but not a pretentious, unprofessional, small town youngster. Again I feel bad cause the artist was a nice guy, but I feel obligated to give people a heads up so they don't waste their time and money. read more

I tried to call them on the phone and ask a couple questions they were extremely rude and hung up on me. Not everybody has a Facebook or Instagram and can access the web. If someone calls with questions a company should be willing to answer them and help the customer, but I felt like I was being an inconvenience. I know they have great artists there but they should work on their customer service. read more

I've been getting inked for a long time, This place takes the cake. While there's some talented artists there, the owner is a train wreck. Unprofessional and rude, watched her bark at the assistant, smoke, eat, put in a online order, do a phone consult all while "working" on someone. 3 hour appt time charge, spent 1.65 actual hours working. I had discussed numerous times along with pictures what I wanted. It never wavered. Even morning of appt, I touched base again. Arrive, and has zero idea what we're doing. Nothing drawn up. Very unprepared. Very jittery, always wiping her nose. Chaotic atmosphere, I had heard other stories but to see this for myself. Wow, she will not last long at this rate. read more

I went in on Friday the 13th for their $31 flash tattoos. There was a long wait but it was definitely worth it. Even though the line was consistently out the door they made sure every ones tattoos were done well and properly. Everyone who worked there was in a good mood and kind. This tattoo parlor & its owner couldn't be any ruder or more unprofessional. It's common knowledge (from multiple sources, many of whom do not know one another) that on any Friday the 13th, $31 tattoos are offered. I knew that only certain tattoos were offered for this promo. I've never had a tattoo before but there are several ideas that both my husband and I wanted to get down the road, so I figured this promo would be a good intro for me personally, since my husband already has multiple tattoos. I wanted to make sure that I'd even be able to handle getting a tattoo, so we stopped in to see the parlor and hopefully see the book of tattoos that were available. We spoke to a woman sitting at the front desk who was actually very nice, but told us she was not the owner and pointed to the owner, Taegan, who was in the back working on another client. She yelled from where she was at and told us in a VERY RUDE tone, very abruptly, that NO, we could not see the album with the offered tattoos, that they were all very small & could only be placed on certain parts of the body. She then told us that we could only pick out the tattoo we wanted on the day of, but also that she wasn't even sure if she would be offering the promo this time around & to just check her Facebook page. The very nice woman sitting up front even looked visibly embarrassed. Not only will I, nor my husband, EVER go back here but I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND no one ever go here either. The place is extremely dirty, compared to MANY other places I've been to with my husband, VERY VERY cramped and this owner doesn't even deserve the customers she has with her VERY SHORT, RUDE & CURT behavior. read more

Was referred to go here and book an appointment with Tegan specifically. Highly recommend. Without a doubt the cleanest shop I have ever stepped inside, which is important these days. I was delighted to find out the artist working on me has been featured in magazines. She kept it true to the design I wanted. Tegan definitely takes pride in her work. Let me start off by saying Kelly is hands down one of the best tattoo artists I have ever been to. I have been going to her for YEARS and she always knocks it out of the park. The entire staff at 5 Monkeys makes you feel like you are at home. By your second visit they know you by name and make you feel like you are apart of their family. The shop always has such positive vibes and energy. Kelly has always been my go to. She knows exactly what I want and nails it down to every last detail. She takes her time and such pride in her work. I have sent many of my friends, even strangers who have commented on my artwork her way and they too are now lifelong customers. I read the review from Melissa M. I just so happened to be there the night she walked in with her friend. I had been sitting off to the side with my friend after being there for hours... we all decided to take a break as we tend to do during long sessions. When Melissa walked in, her and her friend were talking with Cherry, we decided to step outside so they did not feel like we were being rude sitting right next to them chatting away while they were trying to get the feel for the shop and have their questions answered. We truly were trying to be kind and respectful. It is a shame they read into the situation the wrong way and took us walking out so negatively. They are 100% missing out. Kelly is AMAZING!! I'll never go to anyone else for a tattoo. She's super cool, has an incredible "bedside manner," and truly is an artist. Make a plan, let her draw it and then set her free to work her magic. She added perfect subtle nuances as we went along that I never would've thought of and it came out fantastic! Put your faith in this lady - she has the years and the creativity to make me feel completely comfortable. As far as the shop itself- it's very clean and everything they use is opened in front of you (no sketchy turning around or opening out of sight). I've been to a few places that had great reviews, but I questioned the sterility of the tools and such. They do some cool promotions for holidays and anniversary type days. If you've ever driven through downtown Newmarket and wondered why there's a massive line down the street, that's why. I can remember a "Friday the 13th," where one tattoo from a sheet or two were super-cheap.
