We have lived in our home on a corner lot in Elk Grove for over 25 years and the original lawn had so many bare spots and weeds, we decided we really needed to put in new sod that was right for the sun/shade exposure and good soil beneath it. Amrit at 5 Star Gardening gave us a competitive bid and he and his crew did a great job prepping and laying the sod and making sure the sprinklers covered the full area. I called 5 Star Gardening to have a general cleanup of weeds, add bark to a large area, turn over garden soil, and remove old plants, reseat lifted bender board, and put my yard in order for spring. I received a response and visit for an estimate the same day I called. Bark was delivered on Friday of that week and all work was completed the following morning. The crew went to work immediately upon arrival and all work was completed before noon. I could not be more pleased with the job done. I called and he said he wrote my # down wrong but still had my address and could he come by at 8:00 in the morning? I agreed and at 8:20 no call or show up.I called him and he said he was in route from another city and would be here.I told him no thank you twice no show or even a courtesy call to say he was running late again! The owner called me within 5 min. after I posted the review and confronted me saying he doesn't deserve 2-star rating and gave me the same excuses that he wrote here. I don't remember raining so much here in Sacramento area lately (it's blazing hot summer and this no-show started a long time ago) that he only could do work every other week. The things that my husband asked were not cutting palm tree leaves; they were trimming bushes and leaves. We are paying a gardener so we don't have to do that work, but when you start to see weeds growing up to your knee, you start to question if they are delivering the service. He texted me again the following day saying with $70/mo, it's impossible to do the job. My reply was if that was the issue then, he should've talked to us first instead of just not showing up every week as we both agreed when he started the work. We don't have a big lawn just a small lawn in the front and some plants around the pool area. Update: The owner is denying that the weeds we're never that tall and saying they did provide weekly service. I should have taken the pictures. That is why it surprised me. Every week, I saw those weeds growing and thought he will cut them but didn't happen so we finally pull them out. read more

We used them for two months and they never showed up two weeks in a row. No weed abatement and they killed grass that was thriving before they started servicing our lawn. read more

I called Amrit yesterday about setting up a time when he could trim a large Crepe Myrtle tree in my front yard. He got back to me this morning and we set up a time for this afternoon. He showed up very promptly and pruned the tree exactly the way I had described. There was a lot of debris, but they got it cleaned up quickly and left my place looking very nice. They were fabulous! They came in over $700 under the 15 quotes that I got for taking out old bad dirt, levelling, putting in new sod and fixing all sprinklers. They were on time, prepared and did a wonderful job. I don't usually go with the lowest bid, because I always want the best service and quality... but we did sod a few years back and it was no where near the prices we were quoted. The person I spoke with, Amrit (sp?), said the soonest he could make it out is Saturday and he said to text him my address. I think you have to look at the big picture when it comes to yard work. Looking at my own back yard I knew it was a mess and Amrit and his crew started when they said they would and then the weather took a turn for rain after all the original lawns were torn out. But with the rain brought issues I knew existed and they knew how to fix such as installation of a French drain across the outer edge of the patio where none existed causing the patio to backup with water. The work they do is hard labor requiring picks and shovels and rototillers and chain saws. These gentlemen are definitely working for a living. Never had any problem with rudeness or what others have wrote. All you have to do is explain yourself as your vision might be different than theirs and so far, everything is coming along nicely. Two new lawns, fixes drainage and sprinklers, new bark, new mulch, pavers laid for a storage shed patio. Only four stars today as still have a drip system to repair but they have arrived early and worked until near dark to complete the work. No way could I have accomplished what they have done in a few days. Their heart s in their work so give them the benefit of the doubt. I have already hired them on a monthly basis through the summer. read more
