New Year's Day and every Mexican restaurant in Toppenish was closed. Ventured over to El Porton in Zillah and it was closed also. Had never been to 5 Star so I figured I'd wander up that way and see if they were open. They were. I got the carne asada and the meal completely met my expectations. Good friendly Food Server made the visit memorable. I've only lived in the area for 6 months, and I can't say yet that this will be my "go to" Mexican restaurant, but I'll be back. read more

I recently reported that El Ranchito was not closed and sent you pictures of the hours. This was formally the old El Ranchito Restaurant ans there is an old el Ranchito sign in the restaurant that used to be the old outside sign. It brings back memories I went there as a kid with my mom and we ordered right at the counter ans your number was called you went up picked up your order. Now it is a regular sit down order your drinks order from a menu type of place. It has a new owner and a new name. Food is the best I've ever had! read more

Travelers Beware!!!! The 24.99$ item in the menu said for 2, and they portioned it for one. And all the meat was dry. I called them out, they said they would discount the dish because it was an error on their part. The salad was the thinnest breasts around and butchered iceburg lettuce. The drinks were like water and the shots were just jiggers (the small part of the pour on a shotglass). When i go to check out, they autogratuity my table of 3... Then claim it was a discount on the meal they falsely advertised for. They got rude when I further explained how they were not correct. To wrap it up, I paid the price written on the ticket (even though it was wrong) and left disgruntled and with an empty stomach. These people are running a scam and rippping people off. read more

I grew up in the yakima valley, and this was one of my favorite places to have enchiladas. It closed down for a few years and I heard that it had reopened so on a visit to sunnyside we decided to drop in. I was deeply disappointed with the food. The recipes are obviously not the same but the food was so horrible that i took a few bites and so did my husband and we had to throw it away. The rice was bland and no flavor. The enchilada sauce was the same. The only thing authentic were the beans. We paid 45 dollars on food that was thrown away. The food tasted like a frozen dinner. It was a shame. The salsa was not bad....but no amount of salsa could have fixed the food. Do not waste your time thinking this is the same el ranchito of old....you will be greatly disappointed read more

Thrilled that this restaurant has reopened. Salsa bar had like 15 + choices for salsa and pico de gallo excellent flavors and choices. Chips were extremely fresh and refilled baskets came to our table frequently by the caring waitstaff. Pollo con crema was awesome - rice and beans were awesome - the homemade corn tortillas were extremely awesome. Los dos amigos seafood dish was packed with seafood - all expertly cooked/very flavorful. Recommend you go! read more

Go somewhere else! This place is anything but an authetic Mexican restaurant. My family and I came in on a Saturday night for dinner. There was only one other party in the whole entire restaurant and at one point we were the only ones there. The food took over an hour to come out. Only half the plates came out and then the other half came 20 minutes later when the first set of people had already got their food. So our meal was not "together." We ate in shifts. Some orders were wrong and the food was less than average. Not to mention the prices were high for food that was not great. When we asked to send a plate back because the shrimp smelled funny, the waitress argued and tried the dish herself! She literally tried it and left the spoon. She said we still had to pay for it even though no one ate it. Horrible horrible service and quality of food. The taste was bland. The music selection was good. read more

Inside is totally different then before and way better. I like the new owners. They have a great staff and the plates are excellent. I had carne Assad and added some fresh oranges. Yumm. Plus I like the salsa bar that they have and it looks like they have a bar and dance floor. I'll have to come here more often on the weekends to check that out. read more

If you are expecting the El Ranchito of 20 plus years ago you'll be disappointed. I went with my sister a month ago and had the barbacoa de res. It was good but not at all like the original. I went back a few days ago and had it again but couldn't get past the manure barnyard sour smell coming from the dish. I'm being serious when I say it smelled like a pasture. The waitress was nice about it but gave a lame excuse from the cook. He said it was cooked yesterday and that's why it had a funny smell. No cars in the parking lot at lunchtime should have been my first clue. I will not be coming back. I wish I had a time machine. read more

If you remembered what The original El Ranchito was, this is not it. The food is decent, menu expansive, however again it's not the traditional el ranchito tortilla factory food. The service was not great, and our food was cold when served, though we were one of two customers. Other than the facility itself, that's all that is original. read more

Well. I think I had one of the most sabroso meals ever! The salsas that Fernando makes are across the board delicious, and there are a number to choose from. And Fernando is quite the amable' fellow. I was present for the grand opening tonight and it was fantastic. This is the premier Mexican restaurant in central Washington. This is the same cook and menu of the old El Ranchito Restaurant of the past. High quality food with good prices and good portioned food. Don't miss the salsa bar with tasty pico de gallo and habanero relish. I had the arroz con pollo and my son the Chili Colorado. They were both unbelievable and the best flavored dishes I have had since I left Phoenix years ago. The Chili Colorado had a beautiful red sauce that I have never seen locally. Deep red like the sauce is supposed to be. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth. I would give this place a six if I could. Wait staff was all new but they were adequate and learning. The place was jammed with people and yet the food came out in a timely manner. Very good value for you dollar and much better food than found in Yakima. Worst experience at a restaurant ever; horrible, inattentive service and food. The waitress didn't tell my friend they were out of what she ordered until everyone else at the table received their food. Took another 15 minutes to get the ketchup I asked for. She also didn't noticed that all of us were out of water. I had to ask for more water, so we can have it when our food comes. The same waitress messed up my other friend's fajita order 2 times! First was the completely wrong meat and the second time she only got one of the meats she ordered. Plus they charged me $14.25 for a VIRGIN niña colada! Ridiculous! My $13.99 shrimp burrito didn't even come as the menu described and everything was super salty. My husband even got sick after dinner on the way home. I read another reviewer had a similar experience with feeling sick after eating here. I had high hopes for this place for Zillah. I recommend going to El Porton instead. They have much better service and better food at a better price. read more
