I had high hopes but nothing is quite the same as I remember from my childhood. The burrito fritos are still amazing though - I order them with beans and cheese and onion. The barbacoa was really way too salty. As a kid in the 90's my family would come here on Sunday's after church, this place was happening. Today the place seems less popular but I will say the Barbacoa brings me back to those great memories, the only thing there is no red salsa and no more of the yellow tortillas. The Enchiladas seem a bit different but still good. Now here is where the 5 stars come in the POLVORONES they are the same ! its a cookie that is so good I bought 9 and ate them in like 3 days. Overall I love this place and hope some day when I have kids they can taste those little polvorones hearts with their old man as I did when I was a boy. read more

I just wanted to say as awful as my previous experience was I did go back with family in feb. This time I was impressed. They no longer had these young people working in the kitchen. This time they were older. The quality of food was 100 times better. Still not the same as when I was little but soooo much better! Absolutely awful. The kid behind the counter wasn't even listening to us when he took our order and kept talking to people behind the counter. Therefore I reminded him three times not to put onions in my enchilada and he finally said that their enchiladas don't come with onions. When I finally got my food after they took it to multiple wrong tables the enchiladas were loaded with onions. My wife ordered a taco and said that even it was awful. The tortilla was all sticky and she said that it just didn't taste good at all. I dint even know that you could mess up a taco. The only good thing about this place was the nice man behind the bakery who was very kind and tried to make it a pleasant visit for us. Unfortunately though, unless that man is always there and you only want food from the bakery, I would not recommend this place to anyone! We ate here yesterday after a recommendation by a local winemaker. We went for our standard menu choice of cheese enchilada and beef taco combination plate. It was amazing! The enchilada sauce was dark and delicious. The enchilada was sublime as was the taco. The rice and beans were perfect too. Besides being outstanding all the way around, the amount of food was just right -- not big heaps of rice and beans, but normal portion sizes. And there was no puddle of oil from too much cheese. This place is not fancy, but if we lived nearby, I know we'd be here often. They also had a special of a pound of your choice of meat, a dozen tortillas plus condiments for a little over 10 bucks. Heard they had re-opened. Hadn't been there before, but thought based on what we'd heard that it would be a nice short drive to get out of Yakima and have lunch. Walked in, looked at each other and said "so should we turn around and run screaming from the building?" Unfortunately we didn't. Okay, I don't need fancy decorations, plush seating or a waiter placing a napkin on my lap. BUT COME ON!! Thanks so very much for the warm welcome. Guy at the front counter mumbled something as we ordered and the gal behind the counter kept staring at us like we were Immigration about to haul their butts away... (Oh if only Immigration had come we might have been saved!) They had little wooden salad bowls filled with stale tortilla chips, and about 6 different "salsas" and little plastic cups about the size, literally, of a large thimble to put the salsa in. Gal brought our "food" and I use that word loosely, and the chicken enchilada was luke warm, the tamale was obviously microwaved and so tough I could hardly cut it. The rice and bean were pretty much flavorless. My husband got the steak fajita and it was at least hot, but NONE and I do mean NONE of the salsas were edible. I had read some other reviews prior to going and people had stated that they'd driven 75 miles to eat here. Well I don't know what kind of crud they're used to eating but I can make better Mexican food than this and I'm as white a white girl as you're gonna find! Save yourself the bother, if you drive to Zillah for Mexican food, just stop at El Porton just off the freeway and you'll be a LOT happier. read more

Now this is Mexican Food! Simple, not flashy, yet great flavors and not swimming in melted cheddar cheese. So happy it re-opened. Not exactly the same, but close enough to sooth the cravings for the last several years. The cheese enchiladas, chicken tacos, and burrito frito's were great. Same interior makes you feel as though you are at a road side restaurant in Mexico. Although they are still working out the service kinks of re-opening I couldn't be happier. read more

had been once before and it was OK. went back with a certificate and they would not honor it. it says it had no expiration but they said they had come out with a new one so the old ones are now bad? (seize the deal) we ordered anyway and took a bite each of the burritos and 2 bites of the Barbacoa. it tasted very gamy. maybe it was roadkill??? we refilled our pops and left 98% of the food on the table. it was a horrible experience and I will never be going back there again. read more
