A true Nashville classic. I make it a point to frequent the 51st Deli West End location, but found myself in the Nations on a Sunday afternoon with a serious sandwich craving. This O.G. location definitely delivered. Parking is sparse, but you can snag a free street spot in the nearby neighborhood and walk over. We placed our order at the counter, and only had to wait about 10 minutes for our sandwiches. The tables were completely full when we arrived, but they turned over quickly and we were able to grab a seat. My husband and I typically order one hot sandwich and one cold sandwich and trade halves. This time, we went with the Chopped Cheese (my fave) and the Turkey Avocado (my second fave). Everything was fresh, flavorful, and filling. If you're not regularly eating at 51st Deli, it's time to change that! read more

I was having a beer at Southern Grist and the bartender mentioned the Deli for a bodega lunch. The cashier said they specialized in a Rueben, burgers and more. They have 1000 pieces of cake lined up for easy grab and go add ons. Nice lunch spot. I opted for the Rueben and let her choose the bread option. It was ready fast and was outstanding. They won me over with the pickle. Several sub shops and restaurants have withdrawn their pickles with sandwich options and that is my least favorite part of shrink-flation. Once upon a time, I gave 51st Deli a very rare 5-star review. Sadly, I can no longer say that this is a go-to place. I get that there can be a bad day, but today was the fourth time in a row that I have had a sad sandwich. Lately, the bread has been a little stale and the sandwiches have been lacking flavor. Today I got home, unwrapped my sandwich and found that my Turkey AVOCADO sandwich was missing the avocado and the pickled onions. So basically I received an overpriced turkey sandwich that I had to add mustard, salt & pepper, red onions and avocado from my own fridge. I guess that's a sign that I should have just saved the $30 for two sandwiches and made my own at home. The quality just is not there. So sad. read more

We've been numerous times and every time they deliver consistently great sandwiches and salads. My favorite is their chopped cheese sandwich, but their pastrami is also great. Hello, I'm a delivery driver and I was told to check out 51st deli. I tried it out and the tenders are very good the food was fresh each time I came in every other day to eat I always get the tenders and at first it was the cantaloupe juice. But here lately the service was good but the food went down. So today I came in I had one of the plate of tenders with me. I went to the counter asked to speak to a manager the guy ask me what can he do for me I told him that I wanted my money back he asked me why I told him they were not good. He took the bag and looked and instead of asked me what can he do to make it right he asked when was the other two tenders I told him that I ate it but there was a whole plate that I didn't touched. He was very rude and I stated to him that I liked this place but right now I will stay away awhile maybe the food will come together he didn't even apolize. This deli is absolutely amazing--hands down one of my favorites. I'm a big fan of almost everything on their menu, and if I'm not, it's probably because I haven't tried it yet. The breakfast burritos (pictured) and tacos are fantastic, and the West Nasty sandwich is a standout. They also nail the classics, like their Turkey Club on sourdough--simple but absolutely brilliant. Both locations are excellent, but I definitely prefer the OG spot on 51st Ave. That said, the Vandy/West End location is just as good. Pro tip: Try ordering ahead through DoorDash for pickup.
