Syriana is so clean, organized , and well thought out when it comes to the range and selection of products they have available. The brand of Syrian bread that they carry is so good and made without all of the preservatives that other SoCal Arabic bread is now made with. The canned goods are all decent brands and not past their "best by" dates like you'll find at some other markets. They truly care about the freshness of their products and obviously spend a lot of time arranging the displays and keeping the market so clean and organized. It's always a pleasure shopping there. Violet behind the counter is so kind and happy to answer questions or make suggestions. She also always has Syrian and Lebanese music playing at the perfect volume to set the mood without disturbing your shopping. I always have a great experience shopping at Syriana and I usually leave surprised and happy at how affordable everything is. If I lived closer, I'd probably be there every other day to pick up fresh bread and veggies, and probably a few pieces of Baklava. Business hours are different than usual so be sure to check prior to making the drive to the location. I ordered one of my favorite proteins, oxtails. The oxtails here are cooked fall off the bone tender in a dark, richly flavored gravy. I detected so many delightful tasting spices. The plate was served with festival and a side of rice and red beans. The gravy is good over the rice. Festival is a nicely textured, slightly sweet bread knot. I really enjoyed those. Steamed vegetables were tender and fresh tasting with seasonings added for flavor. I liked how the cabbage was cooked to a soft texture. Portion size was generous and I should be able to get several meals. I ordered several other items on the menu to try. The vegetable patty had a crisp, flaky exterior with a filling of cabbage, corn, carrots, and broccoli. There is a nice spicy kick to it. The plantains were cooked soft with a fair amount of sweet caramelization. Carrot and lemon cakes were fresh tasting, especially the lemon one. They made a nice ending to a delicious meal. Service is friendly. There is a market also with imported Jamaican goods. Next time I will try some of the tropical fruit beverages available here. I went to return it about 10 minutes ago and the guy was extremely rude. I was letting him know this wasn't the first time it's happened that the chorizo is bad. So he tells me then don't buy from us anymore. Then proceeded to weight the chorizo and say's there's some missing so I'm only giving you the balance of what you brought. I tell what do you mean I just opened it before coming here!? He says there's a piece missing the weight doesn't match so I'm only refunding you what's there. So I repeated myself I didn't take a piece I just opened it. That just means you guys stole from me. It only took me to say that for him to give me the full refund. But make sure to check their scale at the register to make sure it matches. They've charged me $23 before for astrand of chorizo before and I didn't think anything of it until today when the one strand was only $13.42 this time and it still didn't match their sticker. I know I'm no one and they don't care they lost me as a customer.
