It keeps your mind off the poking with sharp metal objects part of the visit. Other than being a cool dude.. I have a helluva reason to love this dentist. A few months ago, I went to my old dentist with a crazy toothache that went up the whole side of my head. I mentioned it was a day after biting on some very hard bread so I thought I might of cracked it and not felt the effects until today- I had no idea? She said she did not see cracks but likley it was factures you can't see and I would need a root canal.. just like that. I was like really.. oh no! After banging on my tooth in which I howled in pain to prove it to me again she said,"Yep Root canal." She wanted me to get this done ASAP. I told her I have to call back. I wanted a second opinion. I went in to see Dr. Miyata who was excellent about fitting me in the next day for an emergency visit. He looked at and hit my tooth too, but he also took a x-ray and saw a fuzziness on his picture that looked like I had a sinus infection. I did not think I did as it was just a toothache that went up to my ear. That looks like a sinus infection, the bread thing might have just made it sensitive too. He gave me antibiotics for my toothache and said if this does not help to come back in and we will see what's happening once this infection goes down. With in days I was better. Yay! No Root Canal! He took the time to evaluate all possibilities before mangling my tooth for no reason. I am grateful. Later that month, Dr. Miyata's office sent me a card welcoming me as a new patient, shoot, I should have sent him a card for saving my tooth! I just went in again for annual cleaning/check up and I have to say I really love coming to a small practice, the staff is so nice and I like the lil bag of cleaning goodies ya get with your cleaning. Really nice service and conveniently located next to the Light Rail.

I've complained to him about various tooth issues and he says, "Well, we could do such-and-such procedure, but you're probably better off just waiting a while to see if the symptom subsides." And he's always correct -- the random ache goes away and I didn't have to pay a cent nor endure a drill. I've had dentists who were like car salesman -- they'd use their medical knowledge to intimidate me into accepting an unnecessary procedure. Many dentists seem really greedy. Dr. Miyata is not like that. He often talks with the assistant about super random stuff while he's working on my teeth, which I find both odd and entertaining.

I have been charged the free teeth cleaning a total of 0 times. Somehow I go into this place for my teeth cleaning evaluation, and they always charge me for some other service. It is one thing if they told me ahead of time... but it is often after the work has been done. This has happened tp me here more than once. They do a great job cleaning your teeth. I am just disappointed in how they handle their billings and sales tactics. I will sadly not return even though the actual work done on patience is good, and the staff is friendly until the end of your session.

I couldn't settle on a dentist in Seattle for a few years because of outdated offices and discrepancies in dental consultations. But I can finally settle here! They have the nicest smelling office, the friendliest staff, the comfiest dental chair with faux leather, and the newest technology that examines everything about your teeth and gums. I now have a full scan of my mouth and I feel confident that my dentist knows every detail about my mouth through this scanning technology. They also have TVs facing front and on the ceiling! The "gift" they gave me at the end of the visit was the most variety I've gotten from a dentist in my 30+ years of dentist experience. 1000% recommend this dentist to anyone!

Subsequently I went to the UW Dental Clinic as a follow-up on a root canal procedure I had completed at that clinic. The two UW dentists examined the tooth for which the crown was recommended by the dentist at Capitol Hill Seattle Dentist. Both were very clear in their view that this tooth was fine. If you receive a recommendation at this clinic for restorative work, I recommend getting a second opinion.

When I started treatment at Icon Dental one of the items on my treatment plan was an implant for a…read moretooth that broken due to a botched root canal. I was told by Dr. Aboulhosn that if I wanted braces I needed to do them before having the implant placed. I was also told that if I didn't get braces and continued chewing with only my back teeth (I had, and still have, after braces at Icon, an open bite) I would eventually grind down all my back teeth and need implants for them all. I was given a referral to have a consultation with their in-house orthodontist, Dr. Keyvan Sohrabi. During our consultation I wasn't impressed with Dr. S- he was abrupt, didn't listen to me and couldn't answer questions. Later I was asked about the ortho treatment and told them I had decided against it. I was then strongly urged to reconsider. I had such misplaced trust in Icon that I acquiesced to getting my orthodontic treatment there. From the beginning my treatment experience was terrible. I had to have a crown replaced that my treatment plan said to have that done BEFORE the braces were placed, but they placed the braces first and the bite pads for the braces caused the crown to be misshapen. When I brought that up Dr. A said that she took "full accountability for her work" and would replace the crown- but never did. My orthodontic treatment did not get better from there- for example they didn't tell me about things like dental wax, or give me any- when my lips were getting cut up friends told me about the product. Later my treatment plan was again not read or followed and Dr. S put a power chain on my teeth to close the gap where the implant was needed. I had no idea what he was doing, because he rarely explained himself. When my front teeth were shifted to the left, looking ridiculous with large gaps I asked what was going on and the mistake was caught. There was no accountability for this whatsoever. Finally Dr. S told me he would have to cut my treatment short as the roots of my teeth were getting too shallow to continue treatment- with the teeth on one side of my mouth visibly higher than on the other, my teeth off midline and me still UNABLE TO FUNCTIONALLY CHEW ANY BETTER THAN I HAD BEEN ABLE TO. My mother unfortunately had just died so I didn't have the bandwidth to question this, I was just dismayed that I had spent $7000 to have a horrible experience, end up with crooked teeth, and most importantly, teeth that were no more functional than when I had begun treatment. When I finally talked to Icon about how disappointed I was in my treatment I was told that Dr. S would address my concerns. I was praised again and again for how "not dramatic" I was, I was told over and over by Dr. A that my results were "very good, any orthodontist would agree." I followed up several times with Dr. A and was put off. Then a crown that Dr. A had placed broke. I came in to have it replaced and the crown they put on was much larger than the prior crown. Dr. A said this crown needed to be "strong" and as she didn't want to continue to take material off the crown she, without asking, shaved off part of my lower tooth. This was incredibly painful when she did it. Afterwards I spent months in incredible pain- I couldn't eat, every time I closed my mouth was painful. I wasn't offered even simple solutions that now have been introduced to by my current dentist like prescription desensitizing toothpaste. I was even told to get a root canal on a healthy tooth, at my own expense, rather than have Icon take accountability for their poor work and re-do it. This was the last straw and I changed dentists. Once I changed dentists I learned, and then had confirmed by another orthodontist, that the roots of my teeth were actually not substantially blunted and my ortho treatment could have been completed. When I asked that this be addressed by Icon Dental I was told that they would not do so. I have been left with thousands of dollars of dental and orthodontic re-work that I will have to pay for, along with the pain, suffering and stress this has caused me.

Therefore, when calling fora regular preventive cleaning, I didn't expect to have to pay a lot for a regular cleaning. What ended up happened was that they charged the insurance a big amount for a more complicated restorative service that I never signed up for. They never communicated this with me that they were doing a restorative service instead of a preventive service until I later found out myself. I never expected a big amount of copay for having a regular cleaning. Later I went to another clinic and they didn't have any copay for a regular cleaning. I don't recommend this clinic. If you go, please be very aware of what service they are providing/charging you.
